These guys still send a chill up my spine after nearly 20 years. Because they are so confident in what they are doing they don't feel the need to fill every space with a sound. These gaps leaves time for the audience to engage and feel the emotion of the music. Simply wonderful.
My nephew picked me up on thanksgiving and he had this song playin on his radio…first timer and just fell in love instantly, specially this song. I’m 52 and still missing a whole lot of good stuff out there.
Jesus. This is my first time hearing her live. I’ve listened to their music for most of my 24 years on this earth, but this is my first listen to them live. Her voice is amazing and sounds better than it does on track. Fucking bravo. Insatiable talent. One of the very best songs of all time.
I saw them in ‘98 and she is insane live. Super tiny, kinda hunched over slightly, and was chain smoking and drinking vodka the whole concert. Her voice never faltered.
@@Waltzhybrid92 unknown in the context of internet-age recency that’s given a lot of people fame. They’re not “trending” I guess would be a better word.
Gabriel Rose-Gonzalez His precision is crazy. I've always thought one of the hallmarks of truly great musicians is that they take their studio work to a whole new level when performing live. Portishead have always done so.
Check out some of the stuff he did with Roni Size / Reprazent. Live drum and bass high speed breakbeats - saw them live and he was absolutely astonishing!

The solo guitar at the end of this song changes a bit the way it sounds between the vhs version and the cd version, I love this one instead of the cd version. Check it out and let me know if you can sense the difference. Keep it Up ¡¡¡¡
Epic moment for humanity.
Love she's having a smoke while playing a tune. Old School.
Think she was inspired by Janis Joplin
Oh yes
Think she waste too much
Good old-fashioned cancer.
But what is she smoking?
Years later, this is still one of my favorite albums.
It's a true masterpiece. I've never heard a band sound so good on a live album; Beth's singing is fucking incredible.
Yup
God yes
Amazing album
Me to bro😂

The drummer is tighter than a gnat's chuff... Bad ass groove
Totally agree; this snare roll is so badass
Clive Deamer. He's awesome. Played with so many group artists.
@@joet7644 I think I came upon him (and Portishead) when he played with Radiohead... but yeah the drums to this are genius
One of the greatest live performances of modern music. The drums on All Mine are surgical.
@@jordicabezut2107 Did they perform All Mine at this live gig?
Beth Gibbons... she just pierces right into your soul doesn't she
She does!
Ya but......does she really want?
27 years later and this still gives me chills
her voice is so freaking amazing! when she goes "did you really want" , oh man, beautiful
The whole Bristol UK scene in the early 90's was awesome! Folks don't forget to check out Massive Attack and Tricky...
Still a true comment 10 years later.
Coming across Massive Attack +20 years ago was a life changing experience.
This album is incredible! A rare and unique gem. PNYC!
Quarantine 2020. Who cares when I can listen to this.
true

Geoff Barrows on turntables....under appreciated. Give him some cred.
Holy shit friends, this must be one of the best songs ever! Portishead, they must be earth best unknown band!
They're not unknown.
@@Waltzhybrid92 unknown in the context of internet-age recency that’s given a lot of people fame. They’re not “trending” I guess would be a better word.
Obviously all Portishead songs are sung from the point of view of some anthropomorphized force of nature, but 3:18 onward is just pure cosmic power.
I totally agree, this part just sends you to another dimension it's perfection
@@czerwynska yeah it's like what i would imagine playing if you were approaching the core of a quasar or something
Agree for sure, that part is like ost for outer space
100%. It's like listening to an alien invasion. But like, a sexy one.
This song (in this version) is the highest point that Portishead has reach until now ... , i think along with Radiohead the best of the 90¨s ...Bravo.
Wow it takes guts to smoke while having to deliver those amazing vocals
Clive Deamer is such a badass on drums...

sick name too

that's Clive Deamer? the one with Radiohead?
@@gnt163 - Yes, the same :-)

My all time fav' Portishead song in it's best version... amazing... miss this band very much...
Brilliant. I don't know how this ended up the loneliest fandom in the world.
+ConstanceLangdon Release amazing albums every 5-10 years or so and have a niche sound, et voila!
How her voice flows through the music.................
Devin😇
What a Glorious Day! Thank you Portishead ❤ feb, 2024
Honestly, portishead showed up that day in roseland, that art can meet metric and be as one... brilliant
Music to enjoy late at night with a glass of fine whisky.
And a lady 😉
Best song of the album.
Thumbs up Beth.
I first discovered this track when it was used for segments of "Weird Night" on BBC2 back in the 90s. Loved it ever since.
i come for the double bass, strings and drums in this version, and ofc Portishead, so much better live.
Best for ever ❤
Wow, a full orchestra backing them up! Love it.
Del mejor concierto de la historia
I wish i had a time machine... And a ticket to NY :(
Me too...!!! Isto foi um dos melhores concertos LIVE de todos os tempos...!!! JUST BEAUTIFULL!!!
This recording is a gift ❤
One of my all time favorite songs.
incredible performance, wish I had seen it live!
This sound is totally perefect.
That drumm let me in heaven
Best Portishead of all time.

I bought this album one week after its release and it’s still in my Top 5🖤

i maybe 40 years late, but i have to say this is spectacular. and i miss the roseland
this is my portishead favourite :D
yep still watching this great video in 2019
This song takes me there.
As a total non-smoker, I've never thought smoking was cool. But she definitely is cool!
Portishead-величайшая группа 90-х. Это знают все!!!
Best live performance I ever seen in my life!
[Verse 1]
Inside, you're pretending
Crimes have been swept aside
Somewhere
Where they can forget
[Verse 2]
Divine upper reaches
Still holding on
This ocean
Will not be grasped
[Chorus]
All for nothing
Did you really want
Did you really want
Did you really want
Did you really want
[Verse 3]
Refuse to surrender
Strung out until ripped apart
Who dares
Who dares to condemn?
[Chorus]
All for nothing
Did you really want
Did you really want
Did you really want
Did you really want
This my baby girl soft spoken n smooth trip hop clssiX!
Outstanding
close your eyes and travel in time and space...we are all there now as well as here.
I love the analog theremin like sound by the keyboardist.

Her dinlediğimde ölüyorum gibi oluyorum. Ama yıllardır öldürmedi. Her dinlediğimde böyle zevk aldığım başka bir şarkı daha var mı bilmiyorum?
@Kerem B. Topçu bilmukabele 😀
+1
Aga be 😢
Slippy, trippy slide, marching to the drum and pulled along by the vocals.
Beth gibbons mi love
because drums are live their are even more hypnotic
great...love it..
We always have the discussion who is the best female singer.
I would say Beth, others say Elisabeth Fraser.
Both are amazing.
Or Bjork?
Beth all the way man👍
dolores? from the cranberries
Portishheads best
Great tune
Uma música tão boa só 355 mil visualizações, isso é bom
This is my go to album while driving my lorry through the night... never fails to send shivers.... ps. big Fuck You Covid

It is a pretty good crescendo for pop music.
Pop music?
@@GPH_MP exactly my question
„Pretty good“? Are you a classic snob? 😄
At 3:18 when Beth finishes her verse and takes a drag of the cig in her hand---fucking epic...
Top!
