  • A bit of theology. A tad of philosophy. And a fork. Put them all together, and you get one of the ways I have learned to live more honestly with myself and others.
Find me everywhere I am on the Internet here: timchilders.bio.link.
I started this channel in order to document life as it gets lived. It's about where I live, how I live, where I travel, why I travel, and so much more. Eclectic is a good word for the content to be found here. I hope you will come along for the ride!

So many people need to hear this type of wisdom, keep bringing it out. With all the social media garbage out now, we have lost apart of this type of wisdom from our parents and grand parents.

I often say to myself and others in my family (who tend to think everything is catastrophic), take time to gather more information. There is no benefit to making a decision now based on incomplete facts.

Thank you! Years ago an older man told my son to tell me that I was Beautiful and to tell me that every day. Then he turned to my son and said. Why would I ask you to do that? He said so my mom would think she was beautiful. He said no so that you would think she was beautiful. Then he said the most profound words i've ever heard. That which we speak goes into our hearts and becomes truth. I think I just heard that from you in a different way. Now you have to understand I have a birthmark on my face. I know it was a gift from god so I don't worry about it. But I thought about this often and realize our words are powerful. I wondered how people could believe their own lies. I soon came to realize that the more they repeated their lives, the more they thought they were true. Very interesting thoughts to think about.

That was a very great way to explain how the brain works - our reality is the stories we tell ourselves about our lives. This IS ALSO TRUE for our memories, which are way more subjective than we would like to believe. When I talk about the past with my five kids, sometimes it is as if they grew up in completely different households LOL. Great little video today - Thanks!

You just answered a question I have had for years. That is, why are we instructed to give thanks in all situations! I never thought of the answer from this perspective -- that of filling the void with love for God rather than empty explanations for "why did such and such happen?". I am a retired lay leader and lay preacher in the United Methodist Church and really enjoy your videos.

NRM thank you for explaining this phenomenon so well. My Mother brought me up to always look for the good in others, and to believe the best. With that being said, I never jump to conclusions and I could never understand how people did. Again ty because your explanation makes complete sense. People have called me gullible and an innocent...I wonder if it's because I never accepted the normal way of society. Look for the good in life, just as a child does, and trust God❤

So funny..years (40+ years ago) I was divorcing my husband and went to therapy. My therapist would always tell me “say the words” because our thoughts are running wild and words put my reality out there. My reality. It changed my life.
Now if I’m in a moment of disagreements, I say “The story I am telling myself about this is…..”. Not “I think” or “I feel”. It really helps to neutralize the subject. Plus I find myself pulling back on my knee jerk reaction when I hear silliness.. I repeat the story. Usually I need more information before I judge.
So I totally agree with your subject. Slow down❤️

Schools no matter how good or bad, and Society as a whole cannot teach us everything we needed to learn as we were growing up and as we get older that we need teachers like you to continue to teach us life lessons. Thank you Tim. Please add this segment to your videos. Very much appreciated.

I am guilty of this though I hate to admit it. You have made me think, again! My mom used to say, “hope for the best, plan for the worst”.

Wow!!! That was the most profound lesson I've learned. You are a very good teacher. Too bad the kids who did not care less did not appreciate you, but I'm sure as they get older and hopefully wiser, they would know they missed their chance. Thank you for that profound lesson. The Lord taught me that a long time ago but was not able to understand fully and put it in a way you so beautifully explained it.

Spot on Tim. I've just been noticing more since retirement that my thoughts were often initially skewed when forming opinions. I believe that there's so much noise out there that it can overwhelm even the calmest of people. Thankfully I most often took the time to listen to all sides before rendering my own opinion. There are times however where I've had to remind myself not to be easily swayed into negativism that surrounds us. It does eleviate the burdensome weight. We must realize for ourselves not to judge the book by its cover. Thanks for your video. Enjoy your day.

This is so good. I once attended a functional neurology seminar (yes I’m a nerd). It talked about how our brains are wired to always complete the picture. This is true physiologically as well as mentally.
A woman thought she was going crazy after a head injury. She told her doctor, when someone walks in the room I see the body but the head is Mickey Mouse. He explained, you have suffered an injury to your visual cortex. Now you have a central blind spot. Your brain is reaching into your visual memory to complete a picture. It just happened to retrieve Mickey.
I think this part of us is being made in the image of God, to always achieve completion. Hebrews describes Jesus as the author and finisher of our faith. We are also told that “He then began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.
It is good to mindful of our inherent sinful nature will go toward the negative in what was meant to be a perfect trait in us.
Thank you for this wonderful insight.
    More please……..

I was in a support group years ago where a dear friend said, “that’s just a story that your mind made up.” I also worked with a man who said, “In the absence of anything (meaning someone is not responding, etc), my mind goes to a very negative place.” There is so much truth in this!

Great thoughts, thank you. As it is true some tend to assume the worst in an observed situation, I have also noticed that half the times I assume the positive, giving benefit of a doubt, when observing others and situations, and then it turns out i was fooling myself, facts later showed things to be negative. So now my thinking is to try and stay neutral, neither condemning nor supporting, until I have enough facts.

Right on! Thx for the reminder! I have a sign in my off that says ‘It’s all in your head’ we do tend to fill in the void!

Awesome ! This is one of my favorites. I relate to it in my own way as a fan of great illusionist such as Houdini . I'm always saying it's not.. "what you see" , but.. "what we are not seeing" that has the keys and answers we wish to know or learn. The tricky part is stopping yourself from quickly jumping to a conclusion. Which just like you said is nearly always negative and usually wrong. But rather pause, wait, look deeper, and learn. Set you feeling down like a cup of coffee onto the table. Give them to the one who created you and ask for wisdom. If you seek you will find. This helped me tremendously with my emotions and thoughts once I figured out the other way was not working and I needed to try a new way of thinking. Life is to short to be angry and mad. Keep moving forward and toward the light of the one who made you.

Such a great perspective on life. We really do jump to the negative in our minds first. Awesome video and thank you.

Really, really good perspective. I think I need my teens to listen to your explanation. Might help with all the drama that the experience on a daily basis with peers.

Well said. I needed to hear this today and probably need to have it on repeat for days to come as I work to change the narrative I’ve led myself to believe the last year or so. Pulling weeds out of my perspective isn’t easy for me but must be done. I’d like to get back to more roses and no bitter weed and your words here will help me get there.
