@PossumLover1111, great observation about not having all the distractions, especially background music. Most of the time when there's music it's too loud so you can barely hear the person speaking.
I also appreciated the way Tim slowly panned the camera in the 2 storage spaces so you could actually see what was there and it didn't make me nauseous.
@@lindasisk9002 Yes, I totally get the nauseous feeling when things get panned to fast/wobbly. Since when music videos came on the scene with their jumbled, fast, loud moving pans......films and TH-cam videos now are often doing the same thing. I think it has to do with short attention spans on the younger generation. They don't seem to appreciate the slower pace and subtlety of nuance, quiet, and meaningfulness. It's why you'll rarely see someone young without their electronic gadgets plugged into their heads.......it's as if they're bored without or afraid to just sit and think about whatever comes into their mind.

Please don’t feel pressure to make your channel something that it’s not. I actually subscribed from the decluttering video but it was the way you spoke to us and just this feeling of wisdom that rolled off of you that made me stay. I’m interested in hearing your thoughts on the different aspects of your life as a retired person.

I feel like the cool kid youtubers all do 20 minutes. I'm not sure what the thought process is behind that. Maybe something to do with the algorithm or maybe something to do with commercials? 🤷♀️
But I'll take 10 minutes of quality over 20 minutes of garbage, so no complaints here.
@@suedefringe the thing about Tim is he is trying to document his life. I would think a 60 minute video with his mother for his family would be wonderful if that's what he wants to do. This channel is to document his life for his family. Sure wish I had something like this from my family who have passed.

I'm retired, just became a widow after 49 years, had to move and have heard so much you need to downsize, get rid of, you don't need and you need to move on. I shut down you explained in a way that made me realize I don't need or have to do any of the above unless it's no longer needed to ME. Thank you

Decluttering, especially at our age, is HUGELY popular right now as more and more of us realize the hard truth that our descendants just don't want our crap when we are gone. The declutter video is what got me too. I’m 64, semi-retired and downsizing, moving in with my kids. It’s hard to know what to declutter…. all the memories, photos, etc. What did you do with photos? I’m getting a handle on it but tips and hints are always helpful. I bet you wake up in the middle of the night and wonder “Who ARE all these people?” 😂 Congratulations and good luck going forward! 🎉

I heard some years ago from Peter Walsh, I think, that clutter is about "postponed decisions". I believe that sometimes those decisions involve painful memories and that's why we don't declutter. I did pause the video. Even though I came to the party a little late. I know some of my regular TH-camrs have been doing it tough because of changes in the algorithm lately, but it's wonderful seeing that it's helped folks like you get noticed by more people (you were at the top of my page tonight which is how I found you). I've been planning to start a channel for people our age and am making good progress towards it. My angle is having a Mature Nerd Zone where I can help with some of the tech kind of info and gadgets that make life easier and there will be plenty of just plain chats to the camera as well. So I went to my kitchen and pulled out the Honey Bourbon I've been eyeing for the last few weeks and celebrated your success. Big congratulations and I hope not to miss a single video you put out! And for the record, I'm 62, retired and was also the last chosen for sports of any kind but I'm OK with that now - I'm a nerd and proud of it. Cheers!

My husband and I (both 76 years old), just moved from a 3,000 sq ft house with a full basement to an 1800 sq ft house on a concrete slab. We could have used your discussion of decluttering. Getting rid of 50 years of “stuff” in a short period of time was painful. The 30 albums and boxes of photos were the worst. The people at the local Reuzit (we live in Lancaster County PA) know us by name. Congratulations on your success here on YT. I can’t imagine doing something like this in retirement, but I applaud your efforts. Cheers, and good luck!

I’m 64 this year and am preparing for retirement. I subscribed because I’m in that planning stage and thought I’d find pointers on “essentials” and you haven’t disappointed. Wow! Look at those numbers. I too binge watched. I found your channel before the decluttering video, but, did subscribe after the decluttering video. I am all about living a simple life. After retiring from a career as a hospice aide and seeing what patients and their families go through, THINGS are not important. PEOPLE and EXPERIENCES ARE!! Clutter also tells us we SHOULD be CLEANING, DUSTING, REORGANIZING, etc. causing most of us anxiety. Simplify and go live a life of freedom that simplicity affords us!

It was your decluttering episode that caught my attention. I have been retired for about 13 years and have been slowly but surely getting rid of unnecessary stuff. I also have one scary closet under the stairs that I call Fibber McGee's Closet. You have to be of a certain age to understand that moniker. Onwards and upwards!

I was scared to go into our attic lol but became our dumping ground and had me overwhelmed. I started eating better, exercising, and losing weight in February and wanted to declutter that attic. I did it in March-April. It's now fully decluttered, and only essential items remain. We have a rather large house, with stuff, and just me and my husband. However, we rent and our landlord is a good friend and our rent is amazing. No plans to move. But getting rid of crap we don't need has been such a weight lifter. I'm 54, and my husband is 62. Thank you for your content
