I really love this scene because you don't see it often in anime where the team seems genuinely sad that they lost (except for Tuskki I guess lol). It shows how much they wanted to win and coach ukai's voice... oof... he knows that they'll have the ambition to grow and try again. UGH I LOVE THE KARASUNO TEAM MEMBERS SO MUCH!
Usually other anime just keep making the protag keep winning and winning and it makes the shows somewhat boring. Like opm or that god with one finger snap, sure they're funny, but the comedy just couldn't withstand the boredom of winning streak. I only watch opm like 4 episodes and didn't continue

See what I find so beautiful about this scene is how Ukai and Takeda are just softly smiling. As adults they know what it's like to want and train hard for something, only to lose it. Ukai and Takeda kept them together in a safe environment and let them deal with their loss. As a team.
Big props to Coach Ukai here. He genuinely cares for his team. He wants them to be stronger and does not forget the basics for any athlete: having a strong, healthy body.

My biggest takeaway from this is the 'Eat and, little by little, become stronger.' Something i overlooked a lot is to get rest and eat well after a hard match or a workout.
This is why I love Haikyuu so much. Everything these characters do is earned. It is earned and these characters work so hard to get to where they are as a team, not just as individuals.
The first time I've watched this, I cried with them. I am a Taekwondo player and I could feel what they felt. I know the feeling that even if your parents cheer you up, you still end up crying.
So I’m seeing a lot of people saying how Tsuki didn’t care though you can see he was still upset to a degree. At this point he wasn’t as emotional about Volleyball so it probably didn’t sting as much to him as the others but you can see he was still upset.
For the Inter High, me and my cousin watched Haikyuu together and she rooted for Seijoh while I as usual rooted for Karasuno. So when Seijoh won Inter High, she was happy, then she started crying after seeing this eating scene. That's how impactful this anime is, it really connects the viewers with the characters and you can actually feel what they are feeling despite not really being in their position.
I love that they're all sad and don't feel like eating but then they take that first bite and realize just how hungry they truly were. Then eating as much as they can and getting stronger becomes this act of defiance for them. This is the start of their next tournament run.

This is so literal I was in a basketball team and in the final year went to the finals and we were up against a team that were on par with some of our best players and we were so close to win but at the final count opposite side scored a three and won by just one point The looks on my friends face was absolutely hopeless and some even cried cause that's was our last match and we gave everything we could but to lose by a mere one point was devastating I started to blame myself that i shouldve played better and tried to support my teammates much more than what I did but we lost so that wasn't changing the fact When we had to line up and shake their hands I just couldn't but the opposite teams told something that really helped me if only slightly to get out of the spiralling self hate thots I was having then They said something like we would love to play again against your team sometime else And I started to remind myself of the games that we won and celebrated like maniacs After we went out just like their coach our coach gave us a treat in a hotel where we were supposed to go after we get the trophy and everyone started crying so much while eating That's when I realised It's not about the trophy rather the games that we went through as a team and won and made memories And the best part was our coach made a trophy like cake which resembled the trophy we lost and made us cut it in the evening of our graduation Team Sports is not about winning,it's about how we grow as a team and within ourselves Haikyuu reminds me more of the days I played basketball with my friends back then It was truly the best time of my youth
Tsukki dosn't cry because he felt all these pain when he was younger and afterward he just accepted the reality of defeat and by saying "it's just a club" he decided to not take it seriously so he won't feel that pain again. I think Tsukki loves volleyball more than anyone in the team but he got hurt because of it. Just imagine how life could go hard for you if the thing you love the most hurt you in the worst way. That's why he doesn't want to get involve with volleyball at first like others because he already experienced the brutal pain. He felt the pain before and cried before everyone else so in this scene it's nothing new to him so he is not crying.
This hit hard bc when I saw it and the camera was only showing the food while the coach was talking I said to myself “gosh, I would be crying my eyes out right now” and then the camera cut to them and they’re bawling too. Sports are amazing
This scene and when Aoba Josai seniors are playing a friendly against each other after losing to Karsuno and Oikawa thanks them for all their efforts and time for past year and so make me cry like a baby
