Just came to say thanks for such a great nugget of wisdom. I did my first descaler about 3 weeks ago and yesterday noticed that my water flow had almost altogether stopped. Just spent the last 15mins doing what you've suggested and flow is back to normal 😁 absolute champion!

Awesome video I used 2 tablespoons of lemme shine descaler and filled the tank with water the clog was cleared in less then a minute but i emptied the rest through the machine to make sure it was properly cleared out of any residue calcium buildup.
Of course now we need to flush out that stuff but it was working like new now, Thanks to your video i saved $449.99 not including taxes on a new one. anyone thinking of sending your machine for repair try this method first, as long as the pump is working.

This really works! I kept having to backflush my gaggia classic pro due to low water flow and eventually that stopped working as well. Tried this trick with some descaler and it did the trick, after a few tanks of water! The classic pro doesn't have the switch to alternate between the group head and steam wand, but I used the steam knob to switch between and it seems to have worked! Thanks!!!!!!

I'm so grateful i found this video! Nearly sank money into getting a new machine because i thought my machine got too old. It's a 9year old gaggia classic pro, over the last 2 weeks i noticed there wasn't crema in my espresso shot and the coffee tasted really bitter. I did not attribute it to an issue with the machine, basically tried to find the source of issue on everything else instead like grind size, stale beans etc. When i finally turned on the group head this morning and the issue was really the slow flow, i was really upset i didnt find this out earlier. Thank you once again for helping me to save on hefty repair fees or the cost of a new machine with this hack!

Hi David When a machine hasn't been used for awhile the pump drives out. It may have to be primed I do this with a syringe. Fill the syringe with water then where the water inlet goes into the machine force the water with the syringe into the machine.. tip take the tank out . You may have to do this a number of times. Then replace the tank and see if water is going into the machine. If so descale it immediately a number of times. Worst case the pump is stuffed.. doubt it though. Solenoid valve in my machine was so clogged so I had to put it to the pieces and clean manually. I placed it first in Gaggia descaler (all parts apart of the pin and spring as there is a rubber gasket).
I also had to replace a boiler. It was unusable.
Challenge now: When I turn the machine on and it is heating up, it dips the water through the brewing head, as well as steam wand. And I only turned it on.
Additionally, when making a coffee, I noticed that the steam valve is leaking from the knob side.
Do you have an solution ? I know the steam valve must be replaced, but will it stop releasing water from the brew head and steam wand just after turning power on ? Or solenoid valve might need to be replaced ?

    • @stephendalton1541

Not sure about this one I have never had to replace the boiler. You could try replacing the valve but usually the valve doesn't allow water to come out the brew head at start up ..only when you are making an espresso then the solenoid is activated, unless of course the valve is jammed open. Have you tried what I explain on the vid.. this my help the solenoid to reseat? Good luck.

I have disassembled my 2014 gaggia classic and removed al the scale from the inside of the boiler. The 3 way solenoid valve has been removed as well and cleaned thoroughly. However after assembly the water flow is very slow, while the presure from the steam pipe is good. Can you please advise what issue may be? I am out of ideas. Thanks in advance!

Too bad this doesn't work for the Gaggia baby series! Bummer! Thanks for the informative video.

Hi It maybe that the lead has come off the boiler element. Or the boiler element is stuffed. I'd first see if any leads have come off or loose. Good luck. Perhaps get a technician to check it out. They are not that complicated.

My old Classic shows a certain delay on every other backflush. It does work but sometimes gets stuck, and either takes some time or only comes out when I open the steam valve. Is this a sign for a clogged Solenoid?

My gaggia makes a clicking sound when I turn on the brew but no pump sounds at all. I tried this video and did what he said but no pump sounds at all. Any idea what could be the issue

Maybe the pump needs replacing? If the steam wand allows water to come through it's probably not the pump.

Hi Stephen.. I hear an Aussie accent, you’re not located in Sydney by any chance?
