After 10th grade in France, in subjects where you have to write essays and make an argument, many teachers will just never give a 19 or 20 no matter how amazing your work is, because 'you can always do better'. Those types of grades are only rly consistently achievable in Maths and Science. This is my personal view, as a 12th grader having lived 5yrs in the US, the UK, and 7 yrs in France :-)

French gets a lot of shade for not pronouncing the end of words that end in consonants, but if you learn about regional dialects of other languages, like Spanish, you'll find that French is not alone in this.

For example learning a list of words and translating them like they are translated in the book. If a word has another translation but that one is not on the list it's marked as a wrong answer.

@@jamescreative9569 Are you serious? You can be fired for taking time off if you’re sick? That’s shocking. The system needs to change. Life isn’t just about work. People need family and leisure time too. It makes more a more productive society.
In some cases in the US you might be able to take FMLA leave (Family and Medical Leave Act), but that is only up to 12 weeks in a 12-month period (except if caring for a relative who was injured during military service, in which case you get 26 weeks) and this time is normally unpaid. Of course, your paperwork has to be approved by Human Resources. If you haven't recovered from your surgery or whatever after that time, you can lose your job. And since you're not getting paid during that time you're probably in serious debt now. Edit: I showed this post to my boyfriend, and he reminded me of a loophole in FMLA law that basically says that your company is only required to hold *A* job open for you if you qualify for this type of leave, but they don't necessarily have to hold *YOUR* job for you. This was designed to accommodate businesses' changing staffing needs that may result in an employee's position being eliminated (for example, in the case of staffing agencies that supply specialized labor to clients, if a client decides to terminate their contract with that agency, the employee's job would no longer exist), but the loophole can sometimes be abused by companies to essentially demote or force out people who take leave.

Tip: you can never have enough points at a test in France. Either your parents won't care or they'll want you to do better.
Another tip, once you're looking for a job, actually absolutely nobody will give a *** about your scores.
The french school really uses grades as the last token of authority available to teachers. They pretend to grade everybody equally, but watch them lose the mind as soon as parents ask for anonymous tests. How are they to bump up minorities and pay-to-win private lesson students, otherwise?
I'm in America with Indian parents, this is the exact same
I'm pretty sure it's the same with rest of the world
@@TheZapan99 School really must have changed since I was there, I don't remember anything about minority bumping (isn't that an american/british thing?).
And I have no recollection about public teachers promoting paid privates classes, all the contrary actually.
Back in 2009, my city was put ablaze by students riots when the state tried to pull something like this.
@@lnomsim2 It's simple, really. Most teachers are socialists that abuse the neutrality of their function by sitting at their own children's school council. As socialists, they favor he entryism of minorities in prestigious school programs, both by bumping their grades and by blaming other students for their indiscipline. The only way to make sure they do not target you as a white student is TO PAY THEM by joining after-class private tutoring lessons. The last education minister that tried to impose a ban on teachers private tutoring while their class is full of drop-outs (S. Royale) was immediately forced to resign.

To be perfectly honest, American customer service (specially telecoms) may be as bad as the French one. Not so overly aggressive, sure, but their passive aggressiveness is almost an art form.
that´s because most of them off-shore the customer service to latino countries and most american karens who call customer service are very fucking racist when they hear a latino name, source: i´m latino, i have a very latino name, worked in CS for 3 years and calls with americans were fucking hell once i said my name, "I WANT TO SPEAK WITH AN AMERICAN", Sir i´m south american "I WANT TO SPEAK WITH SOMEONE WHO SPEAKS ENGLISH" "sir That´s what we´re speaking rn" "I WANT TO SPEAK WITH SOMEONE WHO SPEAKS IT VER>Y WELL", "sir that´s literally ...oh i jsut realized that the person i´m replying to is named miguel domingez....mano yo creo que también has pasado por esto, y es lo peor cuando se ponen asi apenas les dices tu nombre.

As a lifelong student of the insane French language with its freak show of silent letters, impossible tonal differences and too many vowels, all I can say is that you’ve written the screenplay for every nightmare I ever had in my multilingual brain! 😂 ❤
I frequently visit France and Belgium when I'm at my truck driving job, so for a SHORT while I thought I should learn some basic French....
NOPE, I'm not strong enough to do this to myself 😵💫🤯 I'll sooner learn some Flemish before I can comprehend basic French 👴🏻
@@movement2contact 😂 As an educator I was asked to supervise a Spanish class and I thought, “What a wonderful chance to learn Spanish, I’ll learn along with the students!” For some reason my brain would translate English to French and then into Spanish! I took up modern Gaelige instead!
Maybe being bilingual is good for our brains healthy, but it’s enough to make a person insane!
French gets a lot of shade for not pronouncing the end of words that end in consonants, but if you learn about regional dialects of other languages, like Spanish, you'll find that French is not alone in this.
Ayant grandi en France et habitant aux US depuis une trentaine d’années, c'est tout à fait ça!

(The rest is also very much in point of course)
I once got a 9.5/10 because you can always improve. Not because anything was wrong, that would be silly. A 10/10 is only possible if there is a right answer. For example learning a list of words and translating them like they are translated in the book. If a word has another translation but that one is not on the list it's marked as a wrong answer.
yes, for maths, physics etc, you can get 10/10, for the rest, you can try but depends on teachers too ^^

I can confirm when it comes to the grades! I was born and raised in Quebec but my mom is from France, and whenever I got 98%, she would say "That's good, but this means that there's still 2% you don't understand. You'll have to study harder."

I was shocked when I learned how little time Americans get off work. Also you actually have “sick leave” 😂 How can you possibly fit your illness into your sick leave? If you have a major illness or surgery and you need more than your allotted time off, do you have your pay docked? How does it work?
Worse, you could get fired
Same in India
@@jamescreative9569 Are you serious? You can be fired for taking time off if you’re sick? That’s shocking. The system needs to change. Life isn’t just about work. People need family and leisure time too. It makes more a more productive society.
@@pianopianist5709 The same in that you don’t get a lot of leave? Or a lot of sick leave?
