Why Mormons can't be Christians

  • I was recently visited by some Mormons who claimed to be Christians and said that the book of Mormon teaches the same things as the Bible, but is that really true? The two Mormon missionaries who visited my house claimed that the book of Mormon teaches the same things as the Bible. So, I decided to ask them a few questions to see if what they believe really does line up with the Bible.

      The white shirt, tie & name tag is the Mormon version of Islamic Taqiyya. Joseph Smith Junior had 33 wives, while Muhammad had 11. Both were visited by Satan disguised as the "Angel of Light" (2 Cor. 11:14) "Moroni" and "Gabriel".

      This guy is good. He doesn’t just read the bible but he studies it and digs deep for accurate meaning.
      Something which cannot said about Mormons, who convert both themselves and others with their own subjective “testimonies” of which there is no evidence as to what the true source of those testimonies really are.
      Too many religions rely too much on what they feel rather than careful and attentive analysis.
      Mormons seem like sincere people but they have been swallowed up by a false gospel that has the hallmarks of Jesus yet only on the surface.

      @@jarkohs Well, he kind of has a point. You see, modern teachings of Christianity in the "church" _is_ actually based on pagan ideologies which stem from the twisted teaching of the RCC, and our Latinized/Europeanized Bible, which was actually put together by the Council of 13 of the Council of Nicea of the RCC. It's heavily edited, with legitimate scriptures (the Apocrypha, dead sea scrolls and many other writings of antiquity) left out and falsities added, and taught that the compilation of books we got in our Bible should be the only correct ones, as it's said to be "inspired".
      Be careful not to fall into the Gnostic and "Esoteric" stuff, though. Heavy discernment is needed to investigate those matters. The concept of "god the father", "Mary the queen of heaven", and the ""Jesus", son of god" is a pagan structure of belief. So are the practices of observing pagan holidays (holly days) such as "christmas" and "easter". So, that's what I mean when I say modern "Christianity" is based on pagan attributes, since even aspects of protestant "church" culture comes from the Catholicism. What I am _not_ saying is not to read your Bible, just that there are more pieces of literature that was a part of the original text that never made it into our Latinzed version. I'm also not arguing for the cult of Mormonism, either, as it's blatantly wrong. Lastly, I'm not arguing that The Most High, and our Messiah, Yahshua, The Living Word of The Most High is false, either. Be careful in believing what you "think" I meant in all this and read it carefully.

    I was an active, Temple going Mormon for 35 years until I found the truth in Jesus Christ.
    Please listen to this video, everything he's saying is true....except his pronunciation of Moroni.
    I never knew any of this until I thourghly studied the history, desperately trying to prove the LDS church true....although I was always very uncomfortable in the Temple. I didn't understand it. But was told I needed to be more righteous in order to understand.
    Brothers and Sisters, we are NOT saved by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel.
    We ARE saved by GRACE AND FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST.

      Yes, I read it. I mean, it was only two sentences, and I noticed that you included "modern revelation." I was told that your church teaches a "modern revelation" that says, "As man now is, God once was; as God now is, man may be." After I heard this, I checked with a Mormon friend at work to see if it's true. He said, "I thought everyone knew we believed that." So if you believe that, you don't accept "ALL the word of God," because Isaiah 46:9 says that no one is like God.

      Christism is a Christian hardliner sect which has two groupings & both are counted as one:
      Mormon Christism - Mormons that follow the teachings of Andrew Rusher, the Book of Mormon & the Bible
      Pure Christism - Non Mormons that follow the teachings of Andrew Rusher & the Bible

    • @eversosleight

      Rusher Does Games I appreciate your willingness to expound your stance. My interest lies solely in Biblical Christianity and I am concerned with any teaching that presents itself in direct opposition as well as it's adherents. Paul writes in Galatians about the severity of false teachings creeping in saying, "Anyone teaching a gospel different than the gospel presented is cursed (1:8-9)" It is a matter of eternal consequences.
      God desires all people to repent and come to a knowledge of Him. Salvation comes by no other means than belief in God and Christ's payment of sin through atonement on the cross. This is the gospel of grace, that no person can earn, merit, or attain reconciliation with God in their own effort. It is a gift that is received. Salvation is afforded to us. It is not a wage that can be earned.

    • @RusherDoesGames
      @RusherDoesGames 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Christism core idea is to bring the Christian church back to being biblical.
      The gospel Paul is talking about is the torah. Most churches teach that the torah is done so this new gospel must be another book or teaching that the trinity isn't biblical or something besides the torah.
      God has no reason to reward us because we won't even keep his torah, we keep some of it or we discard it altogether. How is keeping some or discarding the whole torah pleasing to God? It's not, if we are being honest you are giving God the finger then saying *I'm SAVED*.
      Christians need to start enforcing God's laws *NOT* as softliners but full on *hardliners*. If God says something is a sin & death is to be given, the Christist will enforce it even if the world doesn't like it.
      Paul & many Christians died for God but today most Christians won't even fight for him, they step aside & submit to the world. Church after church are baptizing sinners & giving them high ranking spots in the church which opens the door for the sinners to change church teachings which forces out all the biblical Christians out for LGBT "Christians" aka *Atheists*.

    • @eversosleight
      @eversosleight 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Rusher Does Games
      Paul never says the gospel is bound up in keepingTorah. Paul explains the gospel plainly in 1Cor. 15:1-4, saying, "Now I make known to you brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which you stand by which also you are saved, if you hold fast to the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. For I delivered unto you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the scriptures" (NASB).
      The Bible explicitly explains the nature of the law is good (Ro. 2:20, 7:12, Gal. 3:23, Heb. 10:1).
      The purpose of the law is to reveal and condemn sin (Ro. 3:19-20, 4:15, 5:13, 7:7, Gal. 3:10, 19, 2 Cor. 3:7,9, 1 Tim. 1:8-9).
      The effect of the law is incitement of sin (Rom. 4:15, 5:20, 7:5, 8:9, 1Cor. 15:56).
      I agree the law is vital because it reveals the absolute moral character of God, something we can not even come close to. Sin has affected humankind to the point we cannot even lift a finger to do something that pleases God. We stand condemned and estranged from Yahweh. That's why He provided the only solution, Christ, the perfect representation of the Diety in bodily form to become the ultimate sin offering on our behalf because His love for us.
      Works only serve as a qualifier of our faith (cf. James 2). Once saved and endowed with the Holy Spirit, we become empowered to live lives pleasing to God. It is called the process of sanctification.
      Paul writes, "Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law or by hearing it by faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?" (Gal.3:2,3). He continues, "Cursed is everyone who does not abide by ALL things written in the book of the law, to perform them. Now that no one is justified by the law before God is evident; the righteous man shall live by faith" (vv. 10,11). Finally, "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us" (v.13)
      The gospel is that Christ performed the entirety of Torah and fulfilled God's purpose in reconciling humankind back to Him by becoming the acceptable sacrifice for sin and that by believing in Him, we are saved. The glory is His not ours. Our faith is simply validated by works, they in no way hold any salvific weight.

    Here is my ultimate question though, how do we know, that the Bible that we have nowadays is the actual word of God. Or the will of God. How do we know it hasn't been taken away from or added to? And I'm not saying this to take favor with the Mormons please do not misinterpreted as that. But there are other Gospels I hesitate and use that word that have quote-unquote came out such as the one of Thomas, andof Juduth, etc. How do we know that we got the full story that we should be getting? And that somebody did not take something away or add to? Which by the way I would appreciate if you tell me what version as you read from for example when you quote a Bible verse such as we stated in the video.

      Brian West Just look for the oldest source some bibles, revised ones stick to the oldest source. The KJV does not because of the 16th century Textus Receptus and Johannine Comma. The KJV has added and changed some scriptures that is not of the oldest source, 4th century.
      Only most Christian minorities and even Muslims to some extent knows this, mainstream Christianity does not.

    As a Mormon I want to say this video was well put together. I also thoroughly enjoy your channel. My biggest issue with this video is that much of the information is based on modern Mormon teachings, not our scriptural ones. I think you will find that Modern Mormonism contradicts its own scriptures on many of these same points. For example the original text of the Book of Mormon teaches that Jesus is God. Much of Modern Mormon teachings come from traditions that stemmed from decades of speculation after the death of Joseph Smith. Also this video operates under the premise that the Book of Mormon must be claimed to be a literal historic text. However there are many Mormons that view it as an inspired narrative more akin to biblical stories that didn't necessarily happen historically.

      How many Mormons are you talking about when it comes to the "many Mormons that view it as an inspired narrative more akin to biblical stories that didn't necessarily happen historically"? I wonder if those who view it as such would be willing to speak publicly. If so, how publicly? Would you reference this non-historical take of the BoM from the pulpit? From a blog or podcast? It seems that there are many who have been excommunicated in full or part for being public about this alternative view. More importantly, I wonder if the LDS church would not excommunicate those members if they did share publicly their view that it is not a literal historic text. It would sure be nice to hear from the many you speak of, but unfortunately they do not speak up. I wonder why.

    Another great subject. You handled it with much compassion. This has been a subject on my heart since once of my best friends is Mormon. I am hoping her faith in Jesus will lead her to read the Bible for herself. Please consider doing a balanced view on women in the Bible and how women were treated through out scripture before coming to 2 Timothy. I know a lot of gentleman don't think it's a big deal, but if a woman presents any scripture other than 2 Timothy, we are seen as trying to usurp men's authority. Two points I believe the Holy Spirit pointed out to me was that 1) In Genesis 3, where men are going to "lord" over women, He is stating a result sin and not His stamp of approval on bad behavior 2) He Himself put women like Deborah in places of authority, 3) Hewbrew women were educated and expected to teach it in their families (Proverbs is just one of many places). I understand if you aren't called to look into this. I may make a video myself, but I don't have a following or the resources to build a channel.

    There are quite a few misconception about what is actually being taught in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. And this video makes a few other assumptions that the Bible says, which it does not. For example, what does the Bible say about the spiritual creation?
    * Jesus taught that Heavenly Father (to Whom Jesus prayed) is greater than Him (John 14:28);
    * Paul taught that Heavenly Father is the father of spirits (not Christ) (Hebrews 12:9)
    * Mankind and Jesus share the same Father in Heaven (John 20:17)
    * We can be glorified with Jesus in the resurrection (Romans 8:17)
    * etc.
    As for Galatians 1:8, Paul never wrote anything concerning the end of times, but only addressed the local problems of his time. The Galatians were apostatizing and Paul simply addressed it. And if you insist on saying that this passage applies to the Book of Mormon, please provide in what way said book teaches of another Gospel and another God? Many tried, and all failed because every argument comes down to Biblical interpreation; the Book of Mormon does not teach of a different Gospel, and it is harmonious with the Bible. As harmonious as all four Gospels are harmonious with each others. (By the way, many Christians reject the teachings of Paul because they say that he taught something different than what we read in Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John; should we consider Paul as teaching a different Gospel and invalidating Galatians 1:8 at the same time, or should we say that these Christians are not really Christians since they reject the teachings of Paul?)

    I agree with almost everything this guy teaches and he seems very learned in bible knowledge. However I’m unsure about the point where he said that God didn’t create Jesus since there is a scripture in the bible that calls Jesus Gods firstborn.
    Now it’s obviously had to be translated from the Greek Or the Hebrew language and I cannot say what words were used in those languages.
    But as far as the English language goes
    I would expect the word firstborn to suggest that someone was born of someone else or created of someone else.
    Maybe there is more to it than appears on the surface of things.
    I’ve heard the argument that in the context firstborn simply meant preeminent but I’m not completely convinced about that.
    It would be interesting to look into it more

    • @evanu6579

      Cult Fiction
      Firstborn does mean preeminence. David was the last child of eight boys. He was called Gods firstborn in the 87th Psalm. Israel is also called God’s firstborn. Ephraim as well. It’s used as a title of stature quite often.
      Jesus is called the Son of God in that He was supernaturally conceived....
      Luk 1: 35 ¶ And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
      Jesus is called the first begotten in that He was raised from the dead.....
      Acts 13: 33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.
      Jesus is also called the Word Of God in that He has been God’s very voice that spoke all things into existence from the beginning....
      Psa 33: 6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
      Jhn 1: 1 ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
      2 The same was in the beginning with God.
      3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
      14 ¶ And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
      Heb 1/2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
      Eph 3: 9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
      Jesus has different titles to communicate different attributes and truths about Himself. He is the beginning and the end the first and the last. He’s eternally the Word Of God. He was physically created, that is His flesh, 2000 years ago. He became Jesus (God with us) at that point. He’s always been the Word though.
      God bless

    As an exmormon myself, I take issue with the phrase "Mormons believe" you keep using. For instance, "[Mormons] believe that Jesus was born when God had sex with Mary" is untrue. Brigham taught it, and it's never been recanted. That's true. However, the VAST majority of practicing members of LD$ Inc. have no idea what real Mormon history and doctrine are. You would, instead, be correct in saying "Mormonism cannot escape the fact that so-called prophets taught that Jesus was conceived by physical sex between God and Mary, and since this has never been recanted in an official way, and Mormonism also teaches that the 'prophet' cannot lead the church astray, Mormonism still tacitly accepts this view."
    I only bring this up, because saying "you believe such and such" is a bad tactic. You can't know if a person, regardless of whatever belief system they ascribe to, actually believes certain doctrines in their heart of hearts. You say to a practicing Mormon "you believe X," and they can truthfully respond "no, I do not believe x." If you frame it as "your Church teaches X, " instead, the only way one can truthfully respond "no" is from a position of ignorance; and that's when the education can begin. Mormons, by and large, are victims of misinformation. I can guarantee you know more actual Mormonism than most normal Mormons.

In matter such as this, I've never much worried too much about technical definitions and the like. I'll take a person's personal conviction at their word.
      Now, trying to put myself in the headspace of a believing orthodox (little "o" orthodox , not like Greek/Russian Orthodox) Christian, I'm inclined to say "no." At some point, viewpoints diverge so much that just because two groups use the same word, they in no wise mean the same thing. Jehovah son of Elohim born later as "Jesus" is simply not the same concept as Jesus Christ Son of God co-equal member of the Trinity.
      Everyone is entitled to basic dignity, so I guess you could say you are "brothers in humanity." Much of the time Christianity and Mormonism share socio political goals, you I guess you could say you are "brothers in politics" or "brothers in morality". I find it very interesting that both Joseph Smith and Mohamed claim to have been originally visited by an angel. This I actually believe to be true. Both tell the first encounter exactly the same; both were dreadfully fearful, surrounded by complete darkness and a feeling of oppression or evil. Both were only put at ease by a touch and reassurance from the angel. Although Biblical accounts of people who are approached by angels (aside from Abraham) usually describes them as being fearful, it never describes their encounters as being surrounded by darkness and oppression. We have an innate ability to recognize the angels who fell from their holy place, and only by their deception do we see them any other way. Joseph Smith was indeed instructed by an angel, but it was a messenger from Satin, not from God. Satin has been trying to add to or completely alter what God has told us since he first spoke to Eve.

There are many religions that preach the gospel differently, and people in the same faith who see things differently. Second, most Christians have so much in common, and in this world, we need that. Is it productive to in fight or argue. There are so many other things that we can all agree on that are under attack (Most of the 10 commandments). There are those who believe that all those who believe in Christ are off the wall. And argue that he never lived at all. If anything let us teach that he did live.
      Yes, live the faith you have. If it makes you happy great. If you feel you need to find a different faith that is fine also. We all have a path. Our image of a round earth from the moon is less than 50 years old. The book of Job for example is 3500 ish years old (we don't know for sure but it is dang old). Ancient Hebrew farmers thought of the world as land supported on pillars above waters, and mountains holding the heavens up. When you go to France, don't expect English. When you read the Bible, you must step into the mindset of your inner ancient Israelite.

    I apologize for the additional comment. I just finished the video a second time and was thinking about the "saved" issue. Obviously we all saved by grace, for without Jesus none would be saved - regardless of "all we have done". I do believe there may not be contradiction between the mormon scripture and Bible. The Bible verse reads as - you are not saved by works, lest you boast your works are sufficient on their own to save you. I read that as works alone will not save you. As you state, we should still do good works, understanding it is not through them we are saved. The mormon scripture agrees it is through grace we are saved; merely adding we should still be good/obey God. If one reads in that light, then perhaps those who truly believe Jesus is their Saviour, their works would reflect that true devotion. So love God, follow his commandments to the best of your ability because of your love - and at the end of the day, it is only through His grace you are saved.
    Oh - last thing. It puzzles me as well there is no geographical/historical proof of the mormon lands in their scripture. However, there are Indian/native myths of a great white God visiting various tribes and in some cases, stating he would return. I don't believe this makes mormons right. I do find it interesting to think perhaps this white God may have been Jesus.

    Messiah is not HaShem. He is Torah in the flesh. A Torah scroll is counted as a "member" of the congregation, but you would not worship a scroll as your god. Torah is HaShem's Word but not HaShem's personage. Still you can not separate HaShem from His Word BECAUSE they are Echad (one). This is why we treat Scripture with reverence. YeShua is not G-d.
    1) Creator HaShem
    2) Torah - Messiah - mediator between the creator and the creation.
    3) Holy Spirit - the will to obey Torah thusly connecting you to the Creator through the keeping of His Commandments.
    Simple.

      Sir, Jesus is a Jew. The disciples were Jews, the old AND New Testament are about Jews. Who can forgive sins? Only God, yet Jesus forgave sins. Who can raise the dead? Only God but Jesus also did. Only God should be worshipped, yet Jesus accepts worship.
      Isaih 53:
      1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
      2
      For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
      3
      He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
      4
      Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
      5
      But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
      6
      All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
      7
      He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
      8
      He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
      9
      And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
      10
      Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

    "The Bible does not tell us......."
    Let's see what else the Bible does not tell us.
    After the resurrection,
    Acts 1 [3] To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, **being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God**
    Perhaps you can tell us specifically what was taught during the forty days Now what EXACTLY did He teach them? Did he simply repeat the Sermon on the Mount 5,000 times? Forty days is a very long time to be teaching.
    Give us some quotes from that sermon, please. Only silence?
    Well, we get clues from the apostles. Peter tells us that the gospel will be preached to the dead so that they will be judged equally with those who heard the gospel preached in this life. Just think how many billions of people have never even heard of Christ -- Peter tells us that they will also have that opportunity. And Paul, he tells us about the three kingdoms of glory. He tells us that the Christians did baptisms for the dead -- Christ told us that this was necessary for salvation.
    Yes, the Bile is silent on many things such as the details of the Melchizedek priesthood. Christ bestowed upon Peter ==
    "I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
    Where is that authority today? HOw is this related to the priesthood. The Bible is silent but that knowledge an authority of the priesthood has been restore in our day. It is missing in the Bible but restored to a prophet in our day.

    • @leoadley2380

      The LDS Church is largely fueled by creating needs that are actually unnecessary, as demonstrated by this man. For some reason he is obsessed with things like, what Jesus taught in those forty days (He doesn't actually know but, for whatever reason, can't accept that fact). Then he reads in conclusions from "clues" he claimed were left by the apostles. How he knows they are clues or how he knows these teachings were given by Jesus during those forty days, no one knows, but he's happy to insert something, anything, to fill the silence (You could just say, I don't know, by the way. It's an acceptable answer).
      At the end of all this, I don't understand why Jesus is not good enough for members of the LDS Church. Why do you feel like you need all this extra stuff (priesthood authority only given to men when women were identified as prophetesses in the Bible too, prophets, seers and revelators that never prophesy, see, or reveal anything, masonic lodge rituals masquerading as temple worship, McTemples all over the place, vicarious works based on one obscure verse, more and more scriptures, etc.). Why do you need all this? Why do you feel it so important to fill the silence when the good news is in and only through Jesus? I know you talk about the atonement, but do you really believe, practice and live out that Jesus' act of at-one-ment with God is enough? I genuinely don't understand why the Atonement through Jesus only gets you into the doors of heaven but not living with God the Father. What? That's not true. It is the At-one-ment with God the Father through Jesus Christ. One, not almost there.
      All the extra stuff the LDS Church throws on top of faith is based on diminishing the atonement, thus creating a need, thus creating all this other stuff. Why Jesus isn't enough for members of the LDS Church, I'll never know. Why they even feel like they need this that or the other, is beyond me. Faith in Jesus doesn't require more than what he did on the cross for you. If special handshakes in a McTemple help you get through life, well, okay, but stop trying to fill the silence with your nonsense. The rest of us like the peace and quiet found in Jesus Christ.

    When Mormons speak about salvation they are referring to the "Celestial" kingdom, and works play a very big roll in that concept of salvation. This goes all further in showing just how wide the divide is between say, Mormons and Baptist.

    I think it's interesting you try to understand beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by looking at one verse of scripture such as 2 Nephi 25:23. This is a favorite verse critics always love to cite and yet they still don't understand the concept of grace from an LDS perspective. The Book of Mormon mentions grace 28 times, D&C, 27 times, Pearl of Great Price, 7 times, add to that the Bible of 159 times. Comparing all these references in the proper context then gives you a better understanding of what grace is. After that, if you still think you understand what grace is from an LDS perspective, you don't, you still need to read 596 talks given by the members and leaders of the Church to fully understand it.

      Reference to 2 Nephi 25:23 is not inappropriate as a summary of LDS thought on grace. Just because he does not go through every verse in LDS scripture that references grace doesn't mean he did not summarize the LDS stance on the issue well. He doesn't need to touch on every one of the LDS scripture passages you number when whole Sunday School lessons in your own church end on this verse as an appropriate summary of the LDS view on grace. Instead of telling us how many times grace is referenced in LDS scripture, how about telling us where he actually got it wrong in his summary. Please engage in the argument and share where he went wrong rather than just criticize. Why? Because it seems you don't even know the LDS perspective on grace other than going to the LDS scriptures online, searching for the word grace, and counting the number of times it pops up. That seems illusive and disingenuous on your part. I mean, at least this guy is trying. And, since members of the LDS Church reference this verse incessantly on their own, he's not far off at all.

      @@leoadley2380 The video presenter went wrong in saying members of the church believe they must do everything they can before the grace of God will kick in. This is not true. We believe we must turn to Christ to allow his saving grace into our lives. His grace is with us every step of the way to help us through life when we turn to Him. We do not believe any of our actions save ourselves at all. But we do believe our actions show we want Christ to save us. 2 Nephi 25:23 “we know it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do”. To better understand this statement, replacing the word “after” in the verse with ”despite”, “regardless of”, “notwithstanding”, “apart from” all we can do. The word “after” is saying it is grace from Christ that still saves us, NOT OUR WORKS.
      3 verses before the often quoted 2 Nephi 25:23 is verse 20 which says, “and as the Lord God liveth, THERE IS NONE OTHER NAME given under heaven SAVE IT BE THIS Jesus Christ, of which I have spoken, whereby man CAN be SAVED”.
      The Book Mormon continues this theme with 2 Nephi 10:24 “after ye are reconciled unto God, that IT IS ONLY IN AND THROUGH the grace of God that ye are saved”, 2 Nephi 2:6 “Wherefore, redemption cometh in and through the Holy Messiah; for he is full of grace and truth”, 2 Nephi 2:9 “inasmuch as he shall make intercession for all the children of men; and they that believe in him shall be saved”.
      One quote the video presenter gets partially right is that we believe something must be done for Christ’s grace to save us. We believe we must do something to show Christ we want his grace and that is by forming a relationship with Christ. This can be as simple as turning to him with an attitude or desire. From that very moment we receive Christ’s grace to help us every step of the way. This is further illustrated in 2 Nephi 25:20 where it gives the account of Moses and the brazen serpent which is symbolic of Christ on the cross. If the Israelites simply look to the brazen serpent they will be saved, it’s that simple with how the church and its members believe we are saved through his grace.

However, your rethinking of the word "after" is quite a stretch and most LDS Church members I've conversed with do not read it with that very unique interpretation. I hope more of the LDS Church members will learn to present their understanding of this verse in a larger context, but most take the text on face value, just like you take the surrounding verses on face value. DID OUR FATHER AND LORD AND SAVIOR NOT SAY ,Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” ’? 35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), 36 do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? 37 If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; 38 but if I do, though you do not believe Me,believe the works, that you may know and [f]believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.” 39 Therefore they sought again to seize Him, but He escaped out of their hand.

    What does it mean that we are saved after all that we can do? I'm trying to learn, and I want to learn. Iron sharpens Iron. Please help me understand. I was a JW at one point, and I realized I wasn't where God wanted me so I purposely left. I'm seeking. Can anyone answer my question? Please!

      @ryanhoward2199 the LDS believes that in order for you to receive God's Grace you must be perfect and denied all ungodliness (I think it's in the Article of Faith no. 3 in the D&C) it directly contradicts Eph 2:8-9.

    And just where in that Bible you profess to believe in does it give you the right to judge me. I have been a Baptist, Presbyterian, always went with Catholic girls, had 1 friend in HS who's Dad was a :Lutheran minister and 1 who's Dad was a Methodist minister.
    Guess what! I, after fighting against it for about 3 years, finally came to realization that what they had was true. I would not allow the missionaries that taught us to use the Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price or The Doctrine & Covenants... they had to use only the King James version of the Bible and they had to prove what they were telling me using a minimum of 4 references in it. They did, I reflected on it, prayed about and was given the feeling in my heart that it was true.
    The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints IS the true gospel of God and Jesus Christ restored in these last days. Just as Christ said there would be a Restoration of all things.

    When I hear that scripture about by him all things are held together and make me think about how nuclear power releases so much energy and kills us, perhaps because we were violating the principle that I him all things are held together. Also on that says we come to God through Christ think of Christ as being the two veils in the temple, representing Christ first coming and his second coming. I base the idea of Christ being the two veils in the Tabernacle and Temple on Hebrews 10:19-22. The Tabernacle is so important because it represented the Presence of God on Earth in the heart of the Congregation of Israel (Exodus 25:8), that He may dwell with his people.

      Yeshua is a created being, John 1:1 speaks of the beginning of all creation, and the word is there, which is the messiah, the messiah is part of that creation, it does not claim that the son was from everlasting to everlasting. and in the beginning was the word... the father has no beginning so this speaks of things that had a beginning such as our world, the angels and the son of God.

      Danny Kundzinsh He said he is the "I Am." He also said "I and the father are one." Many other verses toó.
      In the Old Testament God appears to Jacob and wrestles with him. He also visits Abraham's house and he washes God's feet. Showing Christ was at the beginning too.

    Several verses in book of mormon trying to make excuses about their weakness in writing. and scholar might mock their records. example in Ether 12: 23.
    But yet, there were some of the apostles who were uneducated. And they didn't write much excuses about their lack of words. Again. Its pretty obvious to notice the purpose of the excuses. Non in the old who majorly criticize you phrase structure, grammar, etc...
    And i think scholars were more excited than mocking a authentic ancient writings.

    Hahahaha! As a mormon, this is ridiculous. These aren't our beliefs at all. This guy has twisted things to the absolute maximum. It's so ironic that this channel is named unlearn the lies when they do nothing but spread lies about what others believe. There is so much wrong with this video. This is truly sad that someone who professes to be religious, is an outright liar.

      cody bunker, these are the beliefs that the Mormon missionaries expressed to me when I asked them questions. Do not accuse me of lies. If I am incorrect about Mormonism, it is because they did not explain it correctly to me. Or perhaps you don’t really know what Mormons believe, and you are deceived by them.
      Please tell me which belief i mentioned is not true so I can correct my error

    • @CodyBunker
      @CodyBunker 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      UNLEARN the lies I feel like you are continuing to lie. Because every belief you stated is so far away from what we actually believe that no one in our church would state them, let alone missionaries who study for 2 hours every morning. You asked what you got wrong. I'm being h I'll best when I say everything. Everything you stated was a lie. I mean, even antimormon people would laugh at this. The book of mormon didn't come through revelation from an angel, it was translated from golden plates. That's a basic belief. If you would have read for 2 minutes you would know that. Man. This video is so full of lies that I can only imagine how many lies you tell of others. You should just delete your channel.

    • @CodyBunker
      @CodyBunker 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      UNLEARN the lies we believe in the same scriptures you use. You do realize the old and new testament ar part of our canon. You dont even compare anything taught in the book of mormon to the bible. You seem to just copy apologia studio. We don't believe that God had sex with Marry yo conceive Jesus. How would that question even come up in a conversation with missionaries? We believe in immaculate conception.

    I paused it at 4.23. I love your videos and subscribe to you but this whole Jesus created everything the including the world and Satan is nonsense. Jesus is not the creator in heaven and there is no trinity in the bible. Lex you know way more about about Greek and Hebrew than I can even imagine to know and you have knowledge of the ancient manuscripts but you still can't let go of this unbiblical teaching as I have seen in your other videos. I say it's time to unlearn the lies.

    • @Mike_W78
      @Mike_W78 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Garland it seems it's you who needs to read the Bible a bit more. The Bible clearly days that Jesus created the universe and everything in it. It also teaches that Jesus is God.

    • @gsjgarland25ify
      @gsjgarland25ify 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike wallace it's easy to say this but hard to prove it with the bible as I have found when people try and prove it to me.

    • @Mike_W78
      @Mike_W78 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      John 1 says that ALL t hings came into being through Jesus. Apart from Jesus nothing came into being. Thus Jesus created the universe.
      1 Corinthians 8 6 says we exist through Jesus. Meaning he made us.
      Ephesians 3 9 says Speaking of Christ as God who created all things.
      Colossians 1 16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible this is speaking on Jesus as the Creator again.
      Hebrews 1 2 says Jesus made the world.
      So we know that Jesus is God and that God created the universe. We see in the New Testament several times that Jesus was the one who did the actual creating. It seems that the father used Jesus as the one to physically create the universe.

    I appreciate your time and effort you put into your videos.
    That being said, if you're going to do a video about a Corporate Church,you should vet your information more or just stick to what you know. The belief in the pre existence doesn't violate anything the Bible says. What do you think that Breath was that God Almighty blew into Adam? The Book of Mormon was supposed to be translated from gold or brass plates, using a stone he used to put in a hat and look for buried treasure,later using it for the translation of the plates.
    You made good points. I was raised in the Church. I have discovered much that I have to say that the Church has taught wrongly. I don't trust the leaders, I have been lied to most of my life. No one can address some issues that are facts and really portraits things much different than what really happened. Anyway my point is that while you make some good points,this will not convince a Mormon to even look into this deeper because of mistakes and assumptions about Church history.
    Not trying to be mean or anything,just think that you don't understand the way Mormons think and should have done better research into the Church, before making a video same. Thanks for all your videos though,pretty grounded,not to open minded???

    There are portions in the Mormon Book of Nephi that are adapted from the Book of Nehemiah. The Book Of Mormon's discriminated racism was generally attributed to racist Indians calling them 'rednecks for beligerante redskins' that really isn't the color red except when painted with ecru paint; however, the character 'Lehi' is found in the story of Samson and Deliah and the name of place from a person found in the lineage of Esau; therefore, the book was possibly generally written out of the polygamist Joseph Smith's own head; to understand his own ancestry was probably of those dashed idolized gods in the Battles with the Catholics around Ameins Cathedral from former French Revolutionary Wars - if that's where he was from...not Egypt, altho, those kings and lairds trace their lineage to that of Barabbas | Barnabus - Joseph the Levant.
