Love Isaan food. My neighbors when I was living in Surat Thani were from Isaan and they’d invite me to eat with them almost every night. Usually a meal that looked like this! Just missing the fish paste for dipping the veggies in. Great video.
This particular Issan restaurant brings back some great memories. As you know Darren I love Issan food especially all the Laab and pork dishes. You hit the spot in this video. I’ve gotta come back over again soon. Thank you for sharing mate. Cheers 🍻 from Perth. 👍
IMHO, Issan food is almost a separate cuisine. Amazing, $20 for all that food. Som Tam and chicken will run $20 here in the US. If you ever get a chance, please try to visit a :jungle restaurant.
Looks delicious Darren. I visited Udon Thani a few years ago, but there are a lot of ex-pats there serving mediocre ex-pat food, and because I hadn't seen any of your vids at the time, I regret not exploring the Isaan food more.

Allo!! really liked the look on the chicken the red sauce reminds me of a garlic chili sauce i use here(on everything) all i should do is add some sugar and lime for a sweet/sour. Another was that salad looking dish ie. you said it was "refreshing" good look and sound. You looked like "in your glory"!! mate! on this trip. Very nice to see it and your wife and son enjoying. What a spread, for twenty !! Thank you again, peace!

That used to be true, but nowadays there are many places making the Isaan fermented fish sauce ("pla ra") commercially in Isaan and you can get it at supermarkets all around Thailand.
@@darrenb3 This is correct. It’s just weird that Lao and Cambodia tend to use ethnicity to name their countries. If talking ethnically, most Thai people ain’t even Tai from China. Only Thai people in Bangkok are mixed. Outside Bangkok and most Thai people are pretty much Mon-Khmer or native people.

Food is generally the same price inland as it is in coastal regions in my experience.

That is true for many people, but not all. My wife is from Isaan (Surin) and her village is about 70% people of Khmer ancestry.
None of them call themselves Laos lol. They all call themsleves Thai 😂
