This has to be one of the best blogs Mark has made. I maybe a little biased because I live in an area in Thailand that is so similar to that. It's like going back in time. I try and explain to my friends back home the life style, but now I can share this video with them so they can see for themselves. Simple things in life hey.....sometimes mean the most.

I tried exposing my kids in California as best I can Even though it is not as rustic or basic the kids love fishing and cooking it with the local fern and solomons seal we pick in the California mountains
Finally, I got to see Mark Weins experiencing so similar culture of mine. What an amazing tour! I love when you take us on exotic and special experiences like this. I love Karen people(I used to work at an elephant sanctuary and most of our colleagues are Karen). They’re so kind, hardworking and sweet and I got a chance to try many Karen food every time they cooked and YES! Full of fragrance from herbs, so comforting. Mae Hong Son is a very very beautiful province. Did a bike trip on Golden Triangle then Mae Hong Son Loop a few years ago. Amazing experience and beautiful people. A typical American would look around and say I’m going to starve not seeing all of the nature’s bounty around them! They are blessed with so many herbs and natural seasonings. I make a Louisiana catfish (stew) Courtbouillion. I don’t use the heads and I thought those ladies would think that would be wasteful😂😂😂 I wish more people knew how to forage and eat locally, it’s a dying art in many places. Again thank you for these videos and look forward to more of this series and location.

I've recently moved to rural Vermont. Very rural. Lots of snow, an hour from any town, all you can see are goats and grass for miles. I love to watch your shows while I eat my gas station Doritos and it feels a little exotic. Thansk for saving my soul, Mark!
@@mykiamoto7145 I got a job out here so we could escape the violence of Philadelphia. We're in the process of buying a house closer to the major city here which will be a lot less isolating. It's a very beautiful state tho, seriously breath taking. I still miss traveling though, pandemic life is pretty limiting these days.

I remember the days in Nagaland, India. The process of cooking small fresh water fish in bamboo is almost the same except here they use galangal and lemon grass. My mouth was watering while watching the video.

finally, we get to see the oranges grown in the mountains of northern thailand for the first time! i really like to eat the thai oranges which are fragant, juicy and sweet. most of the time, i buy the ones imported from Chiang Mai.
This is such a delicious natural meal. I'm from Barbados and we have hog plums. We use banana leaves for a few dishes. Culture is so beautiful! Finding the similarities in each other is amazing! I wish that I could partake in this meal. Looks wholesome!

While I was watching this I couldn’t help but notice the similarities in cooking style and some of the ingredients (fermented soybean, fiddlehead ferns, cooking in bamboo) with North-eastern India (Nagaland, Assam, Manipur etc)…you should visit us sometime…

I haven't travel many, but is awesome that people like you shows us diferents parts of the world. I didn't know about karen people but in this video I could see a little part of his culture and I really like it. It was very interesting about how they can go fishing and cooking their dish using the nature of his environment, which shows that using only nature we can create a great food with an awesome experience culinary.
Mark, this part look so amazing. Karen people who are now in other countries definitely missing this life style, especially I myself. Eating fish from a fresh river and wild veggies picked. That cold soup is one of my to go favorite soup. I can taste the sour, sweet, bitter, spicy, and the smell of bean paste coming together. My mouth is watering 🤤 By the way the red Karen shirt looks good on you. As expected, when you said more video of Karen food is coming up I can totally see you with a Karen shirt.😊. Someone just asked me if I even know what ‘Karen’ is and laughed. Well, my dude or my gal, my ancestors came from the mountains of Burma in Karen state. Yes, there is a state named after my people. And I’m 75% Karen.

🥰Thai food is similar to the cuisines eaten in Northeast India, Indian food is extremely diverse as you already know I guess, Just clarifying as alot of people just consider the Northern Cuisines to be the only Indian cuisines.

finally, we get to see the oranges grown in the mountains of northern thailand for the first time! i really like to eat the thai oranges which are fragant, juicy and sweet. most of the time, i buy the ones imported from Chiang Mai.
This is such a delicious natural meal. I'm from Barbados and we have hog plums. We use banana leaves for a few dishes. Culture is so beautiful! Finding the similarities in each other is amazing! I wish that I could partake in this meal. Looks wholesome!

Thanks Mark for introducing us to a special part of the world. While I was watching this I couldn’t help but notice the similarities in cooking style and some of the ingredients (fermented soybean, fiddlehead ferns, cooking in bamboo) with North-eastern India (Nagaland, Assam, Manipur etc)…you should visit us sometime…
This is tribal/mountain comfort food for the souls. Hmong, Karen, Thai, and Lao, all share similar food/cuisine.

Thank you so much for doing this video, it was amazing. I think learn about other cultures is very important because it help us to know how special and unique is each region. I haven't travel many, but is awesome that people like you shows us diferents parts of the world. I didn't know about karen people but in this video I could see a little part of his culture and I really like it. It was very interesting about how they can go fishing and cooking their dish using the nature of his environment, which shows that using only nature we can create a great food with an awesome experience culinary.
Mark, this part look so amazing. Karen people who are now in other countries definitely missing this life style, especially I myself. Eating fish from a fresh river and wild veggies picked. That cold soup is one of my to go favorite soup. I can taste the sour, sweet, bitter, spicy, and the smell of bean paste coming together. My mouth is watering 🤤 By the way the red Karen shirt looks good on you. As expected, when you said more video of Karen food is coming up I can totally see you with a Karen shirt.😊. We might not able to go to Thailand and eat these traditional foods right now. Somehow, it feels like you are taking us with you. Again, Thank you for sharing this awesome content with us

I’m a Karen and I’ve never been to a village that deep in the jungle.
Someone just asked me if I even know what ‘Karen’ is and laughed. Well, my dude or my gal, my ancestors came from the mountains of Burma in Karen state. Yes, there is a state named after my people. And I’m 75% Karen.

Thai cuisine ranks number 2 for me, Indian number 1! It’s great to see something different though aside from your regular Thai restaurant dishes. Thankfully I live been living in Asia for 5 or 6 years now so I’m always able to try loads of new cool things. Can’t wait to go back to Thailand just to eat! Greta video as always
🥰Thai food is similar to the cuisines eaten in Northeast India, Indian food is extremely diverse as you already know I guess, Just clarifying as alot of people just consider the Northern Cuisines to be the only Indian cuisines.
