A friend and myself once discussed berserk, hey asked "do you remember when guts killed that kid" my imediate response was "uhh, which one?" took me 3 seconds befor I realized how ducked up that response was and what a really depressing, dark story berserk is
The catalyst for the anime hit when Griffis defined the meaning of friendship. When Gutts heard Griffis' definition, he understood he was not his friend. That's the reason he left, he wanted to find the meaning of his existance but also, how he could become Griffis' friend one day. We learned Griffis uses people to achieve his goals and dreams; Gutts on the other hand, realized that having real friends and a family WAS his dream all along and that gave meaning to his life. K.Miura most have been a lonely guy.

I still remember the day i asked the owner of the comic book store: -Is there a good dark fantasy series to read, WITHOUT crossovers, no matter which country it comes from? I should have known to be wary of his smile. I bought the first volume of Berserk that morning, just in case it wasn't any good. I went back later that same day and bought every volume released. That was ten years ago.
Oof I can see the smile on his face. Imagine walking into a comic book store and asking for a perfect description of what is considered one of the greatest comics of all time, having no idea that it is.
@@eewweeppkk we had been friends for years. His reply was (while having a cheshire cat smile on his face) "don't pay for it, read it and if you don't like it you can bring it back."
Berserk was the first manga I ever read, I was so damn hesitant of reading something that was black/white, but boy am I glad I went for it because it frankly ended up the best work of art I ever experienced. And the funny thing is that I notice people interested but hesitant here and there, just like I was back in the day, and once they actually give it a chance they fall in love with it as well just like me. So yeah, totally worth making an exception!
Berserk is probably the one thing I shouldn't have read at an age where I read it. That casual demon worship sex cave in volume 16 still haunts me to this day.
Tim Contreras I'm 15 and I really shouldn't read it, but in a way it makes me feel more empathy to people who have lived real sexual violence and needed my help when I couldn't understand that horror. After THAT scene with Caska I can't talk about rape lightly anymore
no, he was ten when he started drawing manga but berserk was serialized when he was in college edit: it seems i have misunderstood, but some people genuinely believe that miura did berserk at age 10 and not his first work so I'll leave it be
if it makes you feel any better that's the wrong image, it's from something he made as an adult. There are no pictures of the manga he made when he was ten, it was just a school thing
It's people like that who make you realize just how little you've accomplished. It is a sobering thought, for example, that when Mozart was my age, he had been dead for two years.
Watch this anime if you like realistic settings like The Wire and GoT, personally I don't, because I watch fictional media to relax and get away from the shitpile of humanity, which is why I prefer power fantasy and mary sues, and justice arriving swiftly. If I want gritty realism I'd go to the library and read the history of the Hundred Year War or the rise of the Catholic Church.
@@w415800 but why read about history in a studial way when you read about it in an entertaining way which still makes you question why we want to live in this world with the steaming pile of dog-shit that is humanity?
I don't like aleczandxr , he stretches everyhting , I cant take anything he says even remotely serious cuz he is going to stretch it and never says any proven fact in the series but only his own theories
It especially soul crushing when you are an artist like me who has been working trying to improve for a few years and still can't do normal body types to see a 10 year olds work at its worse totally out class you at your very best ;-; Welp at least I have good old bleach to drink and end my depression of never having even a fraction of the talent as some of my favorite artists.
Yeah, I was extremely mislead into what Berserk anime was all about. Upon reading the synopsis, and of course, the title, I thought it would be a gorefest about a guy wielding a giant sword, and well, it...kinda was, but much more.
READ IT NOW, none of the animated series are complete or at the level of the manga. People who only watched Berserk don't have the full picture and why it is such a great piece of art (even if the 3 golden age OAV are quite good).
Berserk is the only story I can read when I'm at my lowest points in life. When family are ill, when it feels like your whole world is falling apart. I read this for some reason. Maybe because it's because Guts is vulnerable, but keeps going against the absolute injustice and horror of the world.
@@Ryzen1 nah, it keeps you going, the suffering feels real, and guts keeps going, nothing is stopping him, and it makes you feel like no matter how bad, you can keep going.
@@sebastiantafoya3609 Exactly. Guts has it worse than most, but he keeps going. Guts ALWAYS keeps going, first for revenge, then for the people he loves.
RIP Kentaro Miura The mangaka who worked on this masterpiece for 30 years. It's a tragedy, but to take a brief moment to step back, Berserk was always about understanding life is unfair and growing through the pains to thrive in spite of the injustice.
1. the lowkey shot at fairy tail was fantastic 2. 'the upper body mass of several large rhinos' has to be the best description of a jacked guy i've ever heard 3. you nailed it my dude, you concisely explained why i love berserk in one video.
Jojo Lightningfingers let me try.... guts is the patron saint of flying killer whales... guts is what happens when you put all the meat in the world in one place and gained sentience.... guts punched a tree so hard it became a book and the pages a filled with guts screaming
Pooop Shenron He said something like "I admire mangakas, even when they take the effort to make mediocre manga" and then a picture of fairy tail characters appeared for a short moment.
While Fairy Tail is definitely not as strong as something like Berserk I still like it for the fact that it juggles a lot of main characters without having "the protagonist" hog everything like an Ichigo or a Naruto. I'd argue Fairy Tail does this even better than One Piece where Luffy is still too dominant despite the fact the manga tells us every 6 pages that it is all a team effort. Also Ultear was a great villain in that her ulterior (heh) motives were plausible and actually explained fairly well why she did the horrible things she did. Though, Zeref is a flat and boring antagonist and I am not really following the series for 3 years now... just reading a few chapters here and there when I have absolutely nothing better to do.

IMO, title should've been Why You Should Read Berserk. The anime is pretty cool, but damn the manga is godly. If you are a fan of Berserk, you should atleast read it once because it is that good
Pradipa Yogyartha I agree! 100% it's a better read than watching the anime- which speaks volumes, because the anime is fantastic! But! The Manga is 10 X amazing.. I'm currently on the Iron Chained Knights Arc.. man so much detail they missed, and it's even more gorier than the anime could ever be.. but even more emotional. Especially the Lost Children Arc.. that was intense to get through, I swore I was sweating through each page.. my heart was thumping..
Just want to say thank you. Iv'e been meaning to read Berserk for a while now, but this video did it. I'm around chapter 130 right now and I have to say; Iv'e been reading manga for 10 years now, and this is THE best manga I've ever read. The 'castles and knights' setting isn't even my thing. Thanks for making this video man. Keep it up. You've done me a service.
Jaden Van Hess this summer I literally read from the dropped prototype to chapter 300 and when I was told that the manga hadn't finished and I had 51 chapters more I got very sad, and then I learned about the 8 years on the boat and the hiatus until winter and my despair and pain woke up a behelit
Alejandro Silva Luckily I wasn't following Berserk during the boat era, I just started reading January of this year and am now all caught up. But I heard those were Dark Times...
I think I started reading not too long after the boat era was completed, I can only imagine what it would have been like, only very occasionally getting a new chapter just to decipher more pirate talk.
Rest in peace to the creator of a manga that I've related to, in different ways, since I was a child. It sounds dramatic, but this manga taught me how to heal. After some traumatic things happened in my life, I shut myself away and talked to no one. Following Guts' journey, I realized the eminent hope that pours out of the later chapters. Healing, moving forward, and refusing to simply accept fate were all themes that hit home. Reading, and examining my own feelings about the pages, I realized I had never moved on. I had accepted that I was broken, and it wasnt worth fighting that. Reading your work gave me the inspiration to get help, and I owe you everything. Rest in Peace, Kentaro Miura
24:55-25:52 was so well worded, it legit was enough to motivate me to finally get my brand of sacrifice tattoo on my neck. I actually kind of teared up. Thank you for this beautifully insightful video on such a legendary series, cheers!
It's honestly incredible how much influence Berserk's aesthetic has had on the world. It's one of those things that proliferate through a generation of media, and that media influences the next generation. Sort of like how Lord of the Rings' high fantasy worldbuilding spread like folklore or Star Wars' visuals through movies or The Soprano's conflict through series. Berserk's aesthetic is like the Wild West of the late 20th century.
Deepest manga ever. One piece has glimpses of epic greatness here and there. Aot is super well put together and so mesmerizing. But nothing touches berserk. Fuckin watch it re-watch it. And then fucking meditate on it
When the author had to choose a name for the protagonist of Berserk, he had to think hard. The character must have a name fitting with the story and its development. So he made it simple: "Guts". Why Guts? Because the metaphorical "guts" means that a person has perseverance and dedication to get shit done. Guts, is Literally, the embodiment and epitome of metaphorical meaning of "guts". And when you see what kind of life Guts has been through. Damn. THIS, is how you make good character development of a protagonist in an anime. He is by far the best developed character in the History of Manga/Anime. Because yes, he has been through hell, we get that. Any author can make a character go through hell. We've seen it THOUSANDS of times in NUMEROUS books, tv shows, manga, anime, movies, etc. But the way he made Guts PERSEVERE through that. By what, you ask? Only one thing: Guts
Just finished my binge through the released chapters of the manga. Best drawn and best written manga I've ever read. Never cared for a manga/anime character more than Guts. Never hated a manga/anime character more than Griffith.
The thing about griffith is that you hate him but love him at the same time. The fact that I discussed the morality of his actions for hours and hours with my friends prove that he is somewhat good, or at least very complicated. He is my favorite caracter ever.
Beautiful man beautiful. Honestly no swordsman in fictional compares to Guts's, not strength wise. Just simple emotion and vulnerability, something that isn't apparent to sword dudes like Zoro or Ichigo.
Comparing apples to Oranges. Some mangas or anime aren't meant to be that deep. Gotta remember Berserk's author wants a deep/rich story like Ghost in the Shell and such. These aren't meant to be.
Joe Striker Calling One Piece "trash shounen" just proves you being incapable of differentiate thinking. One Piece is another genre than Berserk and directed to another audience. It is a pretty good work in its own right and by no means comparable to Berserk. It also does not have the demand to be deep or with heavy focus on character development. Hunter x Hunter is the only Shounen I can think of which goes in that direction to be honest. So for the future, please do not try to sound smuggy anymore. Because your statement was pretty stupid.
Berserk: "Watch me kill all character development with Guts, make a meme out of rape-time with Casca, erase everything disturbing about my world for cute and generic high-fantasy JRPG elements, double the annoying characters, sprinkle in an out-of-place loli wizard, erase dark grittiness for bland magic/SAO-levels of generic, and overall devolve into a typical piece of fantasy shonen because not even my creator knows what to do with me anymore."
Donald William Jack When is the writing god awful at times?. My comment on this video wasn't really all that serious btw, I was just fucking around. I do think Berserk is one of the best Manga ever written however
Donald William Jack There are things I don't like in Berserk too. I don't like the fact that Puck just sorta fucks around now and makes references to other Manga and Anime. I think the pacing for the most part is good but the Boat at the beginning of Fantasia Drags way too long. Other than that I don't have any problems with it, I'm fine with Caska being kind of a Potato because it makes sense, I'd probably be pretty fucked up too if what happened to her happened to me.
Donald, if Casca's mute personality serves as a crucial part later on to the story then it's not lazy writing, care to provide a better scenario after the eclipse that suits Casca?
I think Guts is a deconstruction of an archetype found in shonen and to a lesser extent in seinen, and really invites us to think about what it could take to create a absolute badass like him. The guy is inhumanly strong, determined and battle-hungry. But he only got that way because he was raised by a band of mercenaries, and an abusive father figure who basically beat into him never to trust anyone, even his own parent. And while it's because of him that Guts has the skillset he has, he also sold him out at the drop of a hat, and tried to kill him. We also see the physical and emotional toll his lifestyle is taking - Yes, he can slice open demons, and now has a cool magical armor that unleashes his dark side - but his "berserker rages" if you will is a threat to everyone around him, he receives so many scars (one going down to the *spiritual* level) that he's mostly scar tissue at this point, he's deaf in one ear, has limited depth perception has a result of having only one eye left, and even his Herculean muscles are breaking down from the stress of the battles he gets in. Basically, Guts is a representation that the shonen lifestyle is not good for any man's health in a seinen setting, and just how perilous "the's hero's journey" can be. I wouldn't be surprised that by the end of the series, Guts' body would have wasted away altogether with the only thing keeping him going is his incredible willpower.
Louis Blue Guts isn't really on a heros journey. I'd say he's more of a deconstruction of the seinen protagonists. Most Shounen protagnists have a reason to fight. Luffy has the One Piece Naruto has the wish to become Hokage Gon wants to find his father Goku simply enjoys it and wants to push himself further Deku wants to help everyone and Ichigo is...... well I guess it's for his friends. Guts has found no meaning to his battle and does it just cause like a lot of Seinen protagnists do but unlike them his psychology is explored.
I disagree. He has a reason to fight. First, it seemed to validate his own existence. Until, he got beaten by Griffith and conscripted into the Band of the Hawk. Even then, unlike his comrades who were fighting for Griffith, Guts either didn't feel the same, or reassessed that aim for himself as unsatisfactory, especially since he had no dream for himself. His departure from the Band of the Hawk for a year was to resolve the existential crisis he was facing until he realised that his place *was* with the Band of the Hawk. It was only unfortunate circumstances (judging by his series intentional) that the band was on its last legs, before Griffith sold them down the bloody river to get devoured by demons. Now Guts' motivation is avenging the Band of the Hawk, and restoring Casca back to the woman she was (it was originally avenging her as well...while abandoning her). It's an understable one too. He just realised where he truly belongs, and the person he belongs with. Yet, because of the Eclipse, they had to die horrible deaths, or rendered insane in Casca's case, because their commander - that they were so loyal to, considered their lives worth less than his dream. Guts didn't just lose his friends and allies in the Eclipse, he lost his reason for being - everything that mattered to him vanished in that event. He survived in a mix of willpower and luck. That's why he was on a mission to kill every Apostle he encounters - They robbed him of the meaning he found in his life, so he tried to create a new one by existing solely for revenge. So back to square one. Guts is then made to realise that this aim will only make him lose himself, and he has to reevaluate what he still has - so his priority shifts back to Casca. In summary, Guts' motivation is (at this time), keeping Casca safe, and making sure that she gets better (if she can). Since Apostles will inevitably get in the way of that, then cleaving them becomes only a byproduct of that motivation. Guts *still* wants revenge against Griffith, since much of his reason for being has vanished, and also more so because he spent years fighting for a man who would drop him and his friends like a hot potato.
Guys this deconstruction of guts' character is great but I just gotta say, that it felt like my soul was being ripped apart when I saw Casca getting raped. It was probanly the worst thing I've ever watched in my whole life. Right in that moment I could feel the actual sadness, anger, hopelessness, pain that Guts felt. Fuck that shit was too real.
I don't watch anime, and I had never even heard of manga. I watched Egg of The King on Netflix a couple of years ago and am now a massive Berserk fan. Watched the rest of the films, the original anime, and even the awful new series. I'm currently reading the manga. Still don't watch much anime or read manga, but I fucking love Berserk.
I have yet to see the anime or manga coz i heard its still on hiatus, i dont wanna invest on something that its not gonna be finish like what i feel about hxh, as a person who likes aot and hxh why i should watch berserk? I haven't finish the video but he talks about love triangle? And i also watched some berserk clips, really brutal but looks out of this world creatures, some demon etc. Which i don't really believe, i like grey stories, is this something like that? Or the story is just black and white good vs evil? Seems like that white hair chick dude has been describe as the devil antagonist?
@@OhTaco77 your implying you feel badly about hxh hiatus yet still like the series as a whole. Essiencaly Its the same way concerning berserk. It's just a extremely good read which i would highly recommend, it's concided the best by some for a reason. Hope this helps!
A word to the wise, if you're planning on picking up this series for the first time then I implore you: do NOT take this series at face value, I've seen so many people bitch about how this series mellows out after a while, when that simply is not the case. There is more here than brutal rape, murder and sacrifice. This is very much a "growth" manga, in the context of the characters. Most of the people we meet, namely guts, we are with from the very start of the journey. In the case of Guts being, his birth. We witness them under all sorts of conditions and emotions, from joy to absolute terror and animosity. They're very layered, and have a lot of depth to them. This manga is also rooted in philosophy and psychology, taking from the likes of Sigmund Freud, Nietzsche, Plato and more that I can't rightly think of; even quoting these men verbatim at times. It's such a wonderful blend of so many things, even despite the horrible things that occur; there is plenty of beauty, very much an arthouse series. Apologies if this comment seems inarticulate. I wanted to keep this comment brief, and I may have repeated some of the points this video made, but I just really wanted to hammer home the point that this manga has a lot more going for it than meets the eye. You'll be pleased if you enjoy character progression, and may be disappointed if you're expecting awful things and themes, all the time. Expect suffering, pain, struggle and hope for the future. No matter how bleak it seems to be.

alexandra galici By the current part of the Black Clover manga, it has actually created its own identity and has actually gotten... pretty good. Even though it’s still generic, it’s world actually has a hint of its own system. Fairy tail on the other hand, just doesn’t make sense on a fundamental level, you can check out Craftsdwarfs video to see what I mean about FT.
Watch the anime '97 anime. Its amazing. Ive started like 9pm and was done with the 9 hours in pretty much 24h on a weekend. Every single episode just felt so important and right in pacing, story and character telling. Its just never dull. The soundtrack is huge factor in that, especially Forces the outro and Guts theme. Fighting is a huge part, but the Casca/Guts/Griffith scenes are just amazing. Binged the anime, then straight ordered the first mangas and sat down to watch the movies. Berserk is fucking great
richhomiedslime I can't agree with that. The pacing is just horrible. From the first 10 episodes you could cut at least the half of it because of unnecessary fights which didn't add anything to the story. The movies are way better in this case and doesn't stretch the playtime with unnecessary plots. I mean one whole episode where we just watch guts cutting trees? Boooring. And don't let me start about the worst and most open ending of an anine ever. Also here the movies were much better and closed the gap. The director saw the major problems of the anime and made it perfect. Thats why the 6 hours of the movies feel much better paced than the 9 hours series imo. I would recommend to watch the movies. They are better in almost every way. Even in looks.
Sad to discover that the creator of such an incredible manga has recently passed and we’ll never get a conclusion to Guts story, but I’m happy to see how many people loved his work and know that he’ll be missed and never forgotten.
There are two moments of Berserk that will always stick with me: The romance scene between Guts and Casca at the end of Volume 9, and Godo's lecture to Guts when he returns to the forge after two years in the Conviction arc. Such good writing.
Trust me on this one.. Just read the manga, if you own a iphone or what ever go use the app mangabird and get this. Or just read it online. Best thing I've ever read and I just read it a second time. TRUST ME... Its that good, but very gruesome.
Because of Kentaro Miuaru genius work of Berserk, he inspires so many creators to make their own such as Dark Souls, Bleach, Dark Souls, Devil May Cry, and many more. The mangaka won't be the same without him, R.I.P Kentaro Miuaru-san.
Berserk truly has left a void in my heart that'll forever live with me till the day I die now that Miura has passed. Oddly fitting I guess since everyone in the series is constantly left with physical and mental scars the further they progress that they're forced to make peace with. I'm happy I got to experience this amazing journey even if it was only this year. It's definitely my favorite piece of writing that I've ever engaged in. Even though it likely won't get finished and there's plenty of loose ends remaining what Miura worked on for 30 years of his life was truly something special and we truly don't see people with his artistic ability very often. His death seems like another large step on my journey to be completely honest. I've thankfully never had the misfortune of having to cope with death until this point but it's definitely the first time I've cried over death. He's touched mine and so many others lives in ways I can't explain nor truly give it the credit it deserves in words. Rest in peace Kentaro Miura.
"He was ten years old when he drew this" I was like, wait WTF?!?! That godly detailed drawing that look freaking amazing is drawn when he was 10?! Rest in Piece Kentaro Miura We shall forever treasure this series for the rest of our lives🙏
Just a year late, but that was actually a mistake in the video. Miura was 19 when he made that panel. (he did make manga from age of 7, but only a few pages of it are still intact)
It takes 1000 hours to start gaining mastery in a skill. A child who starts drawing around 3 or 4 years old, maybe 5, can easily reach that number of hours by the age of 10.
Guts' character is an inspiration of mine. I don't really feel the same kind of connection to any other fictive, or even real life, character. I've been through a lot in my life, right from the start, and though Guts' hardships are horrendous I can fit my own over them and watching/reading this masterpiece is like an therapy session for me in a way. I've learned very much about myself watching Guts' journey and his learning about himself. Now days if life gets tough and my mind is in a dark place I say to myself that I'm a warrior, I can do this and carry on no matter what. And I think that that's what Guts is all about too. I will always keep Berserk close to my heart till the end of my days.
I cant get over how amazing each one of your videos are.... They literally bring tears to my eyes. I couldnt explain some of these topics better myself honestly and just the way the videos are put together i swear its like art. Its beautiful dude.
Does trap refer to crossdressers or transgender women? Because if its the latter then thats kinda a crummy thing for people to keep making jokes about, mate :/
@@umjammerlammy9993 "Trap" is a commonly used term to describe certain anime characters. It does partially overlap with crossdresser, but from what I've seen it refers to a character who's physically and mentally male, but looks immensely female.
R.I.P Kentaro Miura. You and your masterpiece berserk will never be forgotten and it’s had such a positive impact on millions of lives that all we can say is thank you, thank you for letting us experience this work of art known as berserk.
My boyfriend is a HUUUUUUUGE fan of this series, he likes it so much he got Guts' demonic brand tattooed on his neck. He's so passionated, his way of telling why he likes this series so much is kind of what made me fell in love with him. Just before we started going out, I went to his place with a mutual friend and he made me watch the 3 movies since I haven't seen them. I was totally hypnotized. Oh geez, I didn't even know what to say other than "I want more!!". What makes it such a great series is that even tho it does contains a lot of action, it's also VERY VERY psychological and everything is so deep. As you said in the video, the concept of good and bad doesn't even apply because of everything that's happening. Griffith's greatest skill is his extreme charisma, which gets him to control everyone so easily, whereas Guts is way more like a mad dog you wouldn't want to come across. Guts doesn't haven a bad will, but his past made him the person he is now, and that's life, that's exactly what life is. Seriously, my boyfriend is so addicted by this series and by the character of Guts, one of his dreams is to make Guts' Berserker armor (all made of metal, with his own forge). I dared him to do it and I told him that I would be his Casca to encourage him to do so xD This series made him see the world in another way and I like the way it also had me see the world differently. Even tho I'm nowhere near the actual story (I'm only a few chapters passed the Golden Age), I really love that series and I just want to see so much more. I'm impressed its this old, I never though it was nearly 30 years old! It hasn't aged that much (you clearly see the 90's typical art style, but nothing more than that) and is still a pleasure to read!
Ravener golden age has the most breath taking series arc i've seen. when you watch it changes your life. It one the only shows were I'd want to watch 5 time in a row.
I sincerely watched it over than 5 times already and I often ask my boyfriend if he wants to watch it again with me. Everytime I'm thinking "he's gonna refuse, he must be going crazy watching it so many times over and over again" but no, he still wants to watch it. And everytime he's begging me to continue the manga, so we can talk about what's happening hahaha. This series is so great.
I had no interest in Berserk until watching this video the first time. Now having watched the The Golden Age Trilogy, and just completing Vol 5 of the manga as I write this, something occurred to me that I haven't seen anyone bring up. Griffith is a template for how Anakin Skywalker should have been done correctly. You have to like someone to care if they make a bad decision and Griffith is a very likeable character. All through the Golden Arc you wanted him to succeed. It's my contention that this is the quality that Anakin Skywalker lacked throughout all the films. Making Anakin more of a Griffith type character would have probably put the prequel trilogy on par with the originals if not above them in the mind of fans.
Nelson Smith yeah, that’s how they wrote him in the ‘09 clone wars cg cartoon, that’s definitely worth a watch if you want to see a setting like Republic done well and right. Though the first season isn’t too good.
yea it seemed like George wanted to make sure Anakin had weaknesses (like his creep factor and penchant for whining) as foreshadowing for his eventual demise, but there are so many better avenues to craft a hero turned villain story. Lucas really dropped the ball there. At least the prequels have one thing going for them though, they're not the shitty disney sequels
Even with a better, darker backstory like Guts had...Anakin became an actual villain, Guts never did. The Golden Age arc cemented him as a man with compassion and kindness behind his gruff exterior. Vader had none of that until the very end, so what can make a man become so cold-hearted, since even Guts didn't become so? The answer is: we don't really know, since truly malevolent people are extraordinarily rare, and they won't be having any redeeming moments like Vader did at the end. There was almost no way to do a backstory that makes any sense for someone like Vader, unless you make it a bit like Voldemort who had the makings of a cruel personality from the beginning. And Rowling luckily didn't delve too deeply into Voldemort's backstory. I also don't necessarily want Palpatine's backstory either btw. Enough origin stories, people!
Thank you Eyepatch Wolf for making this video. This was the step that got me into reading Berserk as well as your content. It's been a journey since then and I'm honored to have met you through this. Thank you
This is one of the first videos I watched from your channel and it is also how I was introduced to this manga. I recently started to watch/read berserk and was looking forward to get into it. I just saw the news of the author's passing. Rip to a goat 🐐
Okay, I'm probably going to get bombarded, but... What EXACTLY makes Fairy Tail so... "mediocre?" Seeing that image SEW showed off made me question something. I only watched up to...maybe the end of the first time Erza is seen in the field with Team Natsu. So, I'm not far in at all. Why is the show considered "mediocre?" Characters? Plot structure? Writing? What?
@@Mechassault_Man there's a lot if ft haters who just bash the series for no reason. Fairy tail is a great series with good writing but a lot of people just love to jump on the hate train to attack it. The most popular insult is power of friendship despite the fact fairy tail characters usually use strategy to win battles, any power ups are explained in detail and are often hinted beforehand, the villains win half the time and there is over 80 deaths.
@@Mechassault_Man I watched up to about ep 25, and in my eyes nothing feels important at all. Reuse of the same attacks from natsu, the 20 second gate of __ animations, and unimportant plot points made it feel flat and a chore to watch compared to shows like one piece, FMAB, Made in abyss, BNHA, Berserk etc. Theres no goals for Natsu and the one girl, and the only thing that I was interested in at all was the story behind Natsu and his dragon backstory. Maybe in the future arcs theres more character development and important plot, I wouldn't know. Maybe ill get further into it when I run out of better anime, but RN it was just too stale to keep my interest.
Well, here we are. The news broke yesterday. I came back to watch this video, it wasn't why I started reading. I had started reading it long before but just hearing someone else care about something you care about is always something that helps you feel like there are people out there that understand you. This manga shaped me as it shaped many other but it also kept many of us out there alive and struggling onwards. Miura gave everything to us and left nothing behind, in the end, there is only one thing to say: Thank you.
2:32 That´s not Miuranger, his work when he was 10, that is NOA, a work from a 19 year old Miura. There is no existing copy of Miuranger on the internet, as far as I am aware. The earliest work I could find is Futanabi, a manga which he used to enter an art school, which is by no means groundbreaking in terms of artistic detail, but it´s not bad by any means, considering the materials that he used, being Indian Ink.
RIP Kentaro Miura, i remember seeing this video for the first time ever, it was the reason why i watched all your videos, its so unreal for a legend like Miura to be gone, but he gave us a great Gift with his art and incredible story, his work and name will forever be alive, You Have Eard Your Rest dear Miura, RIP...
The Idea that shierkes mentor and the skeleton knight used to be romantically involved is really cool to me, like its a mirror to shierke or casca with griffith. The knight almost seemed tragic and seemed sad and torn when the mentor died, like all he could do was make sure her passing was peaceful

It's one of those things that proliferate through a generation of media, and that media influences the next generation. One of Miura's friends knows the story, and is leading the continuation of Berserk.
It's not quite the same... but it's still Berserk.
Only one thing:
Guts
Miura might also have subconsciously chosen "guts" based on Götz von Berlichingen who was a German mercenary with an iron hand prosthetic.

Beautiful man beautiful. Honestly no swordsman in fictional compares to Guts's, not strength wise. Just simple emotion and vulnerability, something that isn't apparent to sword dudes like Zoro or Ichigo.
>Comparing Guts to characters from two trash shounens
Griffith? Read Vagabond, the MC is godly and happens to be a swordsman.
Li-Li Mandragon Sadly Zoro's character development after his 1st encounter with Mihawk also took so kuch emotion away from him
Comparing apples to Oranges. Some mangas or anime aren't meant to be that deep. Gotta remember Berserk's author wants a deep/rich story like Ghost in the Shell and such. These aren't meant to be.
Joe Striker One Piece, the most popular manga ever, is trash?
Joe Striker Calling One Piece "trash shounen" just proves you being incapable of differentiate thinking. One Piece is another genre than Berserk and directed to another audience. It is a pretty good work in its own right and by no means comparable to Berserk. It also does not have the demand to be deep or with heavy focus on character development. Hunter x Hunter is the only Shounen I can think of which goes in that direction to be honest. So for the future, please do not try to sound smuggy anymore. Because your statement was pretty stupid.
Game of Thrones: "I am the most disturbing fantasy story filled with rape, murder and betrayal."

@@6ixlxrd Its still dark pal. just give Guts a rest ffs
@@genieswagman7654 It's about as "dark" as Ser Pounce.
Berserk is not only one of the Greatest manga Series of all time, but also one of the best works of literature.
Donald William Jack he can have his own opinion. maybe he hasn't read the same books as you but that doesn't invalidate his views
Donald William Jack I do read lol
I wouldn't be surprised that by the end of the series, Guts' body would have wasted away altogether with the only thing keeping him going is his incredible willpower.
i think guts is kenshiro being decontructed.
You're right about that, I think.

Berserk changed my view on what a good antagonist is. You have to read it. You will never forget it, it's that good.
It's sad that he didn't get to finish his manga, but I think he had already written his place in manga history. May he rest in peace
No matter how bleak it seems to be.
you can always tell who the edgelords are when they flip over character development and complain about a lack of action and rape.

I found out about Berserk from the first Dark Souls and watched the first episode from the 1997 anime. I thought it was cool because of how edgy Guts was fighting the snake baron and then started reading the manga when I finished it.
One of the best mangas of all time.

I think the waterfall scene is done better in the 97 anime. It went a little too far in the manga for my taste.
The movies don't have the Bonfire scene though.

Sad to discover that the creator of such an incredible manga has recently passed and we’ll never get a conclusion to Guts story, but I’m happy to see how many people loved his work and know that he’ll be missed and never forgotten.
There are two moments of Berserk that will always stick with me:
The romance scene between Guts and Casca at the end of Volume 9, and Godo's lecture to Guts when he returns to the forge after two years in the Conviction arc. Such good writing.

RIP Kentaro. So sad I had a feeling he wouldn't be able to finish his masterpiece, at least we were able to get 30 years of greatness!

He was a child prodigy that only comes about once in a generation. The master of all manga. RIP

R.I.P Kentaro Miura. You and your masterpiece berserk will never be forgotten and it’s had such a positive impact on millions of lives that all we can say is thank you, thank you for letting us experience this work of art known as berserk.
Berserks demons remind me a lot of cosmic horror. I look at them and I don't get them. It's nice.
I loved Anakin. I thought he was awesome
What about the anime tho

That´s not Miuranger, his work when he was 10, that is NOA, a work from a 19 year old Miura.
