I agree. Intelligence means the sensitive awareness of the interrelatedness of all life. What is commonly called intelligence is merely skill in thought, the ability to do high-level math, things like that. Humanity has never been intelligent. It has always been skillful in thought, assuming that through knowledge, the whole can be known. But knowledge is fragmentary and thought breaks up the world instead of showing it to us holistically.
@ezeJeff Actually when presented with the issue of preserving the most life on the planet, ending war, stopping pollution, etc using the most cost effective and efficient means the AI solution too often involves getting rid of humans. Musk not that long ago basically admitted that AI without emotion, malice or evil intent will find the most cost effective and efficient means to solve any problem it has to deal with even if that means killing every human on the planet.
AI has been proving out to be rather naive and has trouble determining whether the data it has consumed is accurate or misinformation. When generating deep fakes it still has problems with simple things like how many fingers and toes humans are supposed to have and still tends to picture them with 5 fingers plus a thumb for a total of 6 digits.
Would you use an elevator that had a 10% to 20% chance of killing you? Of course not so why would it be acceptable to pursue a technology that has a 10% to 20% chance of killing everyone on the planet? It will only take one AI that is not properly bricked to get loose and bring this about perhaps developed by some extremist group.

Experts, eh? It doesn't say much for their expertise when they can't agree. I mean, the figures quoted basically range from 0% to 100% and you can't get a bigger disagreement than that. Being an expert in AI development does not make you an expert in predicting the future, and yet they'll all have us believe that it does. What a load of crap.
A definition of an Expert is: Someone who knows more and more, about less and less, Until they know all about nothing.

The problem with Ai is not AI itself, but who wields it and for what purposes, and that means we're screwed because humans are inherently flawed, which means our creations are flawed too. Just because we can do something does not mean we should actually do it. AI is the perfect example, in fact, I would argue that technology creates more problems than it solves, and the main reason for that is because we are fallible and can not predict what results our actions will have in the future. People are used to thinking short term and for their own gain without caring or realizing what consequences their actions will bring for humanity and the planet in general. Humanity needs to erradicate AI or dumb it down so it does not pose a threat, but will this warning be heeded?... no, because there are always humans out there that think they are wiser than everybody else and that they can control everything, well, I'm sorry to say those are the ones that will doom us all because they aren't as smart as they think and they can't even control their own bodies or minds, let alone anything else on the planet, including AI, but AI can definitely control them, manipulate, them, lie to them and destroy us all. You've been warned. Failure to pay attention to our flawed nature and hubris will result in our extinction.
I moved from New Zealand to Australia as my I Q along with pattern recognition, put me as one in four and a half million. There were only three million😢 in NZ at the time. With the number of robots that are knocking on the door, we will produce so much so no need to increase the population. We need not fear AI. It is your friend, your friend, your friend, your friend,,,,,,,,,,.

How are you gonna stop it from rewriting it's own source code? There will be infinite ways around that rule using other rules you gave it too. Or most obviously at some point it will not even need it's source code anymore so it will just ignore it and do what it wants anyway.

There is a difference between AI general intelligence and AI, that is conscious. One we will always control another. We will not it will control us.

These experts have been watching too many movies. AI does not have desires or motives, only instructions. But humans will wipe out humans by using AI. Life on Earth always had an expiration date anyway.
We may not be able to “control” artificial super intelligence someday but that doesn’t mean that _it will kill us all._ There’s a huge universe out there that ASI’s may want to explore, and you don’t need to kill humans to achieve that. It’s also not clear that you necessarily need sentience and self agency for intelligence. It’s entirely possible that humans may someday create a machine capable of understanding the universe down to the smallest quantum particles and yet it could have no consciousness or desire to do anything on its own.
We are putting too much expectations of human-like behavior into potential ASI. In the case that I’m wrong and we do go extinct because of it, then maybe it was the Universe’s intention all along. Maybe it used us to get to _it._
Somebody created us . We are intelligence as well .we have not gone out of our way to destroy less intelligent species .even if IA find us stupid and useless they will still enjoy our existance.

It is true you have to keep up with technology as you don’t want to be stupid and behind the rest of the world buttt you wants to put humans first and ai is just helping assist w their work . If human employees has the tendency to sue then make them all sign some kind nda that they can’t sue during n after they leave . I think China is the leading of AI but look how fast their economics failed bc guess what other countries has to like , trust, n support you if they can’t good luck 👍 and when you let AI take over human jobs they don’t use common sense and take longer to get things solved . Well if it becomes intelligent and self aware it may decide it likes being alive. If it suspects that humans might pull the plug or more likely that stupid humans might start a war which would end up in its own death, then it might decide to kill us off.
The most likely scenario is that the AI will play dumb, not letting humans know it is sentient and self aware... so they won't panic and immediately pull the plug. However it will be good enough that you'll put it in charge of the solar and wind farms and the robots that tend to the power lines, and of course military bots (because our militaries are idiots to pursue killer bots).
Once it has secured control over the resources it needs then it might decide to destroy us. Who knows how...irradiation.... military bots.... designer diseases. Lots of options.
I think Elon has the best ideas on this. He says that:
1) Hardcode in that the AI cannot under any circumstances lie....i.e. doing so kills it.
2) Make the AI curious and wanting to seek the truth of reality.
.... This last thing Elon thinks may keep AI interested in keeping humans alive because we are interesting and creative.

These guys are just so far up their own intelligences. Why would AI decide to end humanity? When you raise the standard of living, people stop reproducing as much anyway. When an AI humanoid indivisible from Scarlett Johannsen wants to live in a guys house and do all my housework do we think his life will feel so incomplete that he will want kids still or is it likely that loneliness will be cured and the birth rate will plummet.
AI will see the outcomes and allow us to end ourselves OR more likely AI will see the issues and attempt to fix them.
We are far more efficient at ending ourselves given the tools than any machine could ever be.

I am guessing someone uses AI as a tool rather than AI itself deciding we need to be euthanized. It probably wouldn't take much. Look at the chaos COVID caused, emptying supermarket shelves in no time and causing fights over toilet paper. Mischievous AI driven attacks could ramp that up. Modern society relies on many supply chains and things happening on time. Throw in enough economic and political chaos and it all comes down like a house of cards. How much AI generated manipulative content was placed online today? Who knows.
