      Kyrgios was right. Maybe his bluntness and Attitude weren’t nice. But umpire for sure was against him and on Nadal side. The average time between serves for Nadal was like 26 seconds so he should’ve been penalised at least 2-3 times.

      100% true. I hate Kyrgios' attitude, but his point about Nadal taking all his time is on point. It feels like the umpires are very indulgent over Nadal's serve in Grand Slams simply because there's something in it for them. This is my issue with Nick Kyrgios: he was making a valid point about Nadal failing to play to the speed of the server (and I’m saying that as a massive Nadal fan). But the way he goes about it is all wrong. He’s grown so used to arguing with umpires (a lot of the time for less valid reasons than during this year’s Wimbledon match) that when he has a valid challenge, he doesn’t articulate the issue well. It’s second nature for him to veer off topic and just start bashing the umpire which isn’t going to achieve anything. In fact, it usually has the adverse affect that he desires. Also, the spitting at 8:55 makes me agree with commentators, former players and current players (like Nadal) that he lacks basic respect for the game.

    Huge Nadal fan here but Kygrios was every bit right to react that way. He may have come off as disrespectful but that umpire was not doing his job to make sure players all follow the rules. I've seen Nadal have a go at umpires sometimes and normally they just brush him off. But to receive a code violation for asking (if true as claimed) to play with new balls just before the server serves is a bit much. I mean if that's the case, then Nadal should have received time violation for every time he put off Kyrgios off his service motion/routine. Plus, that call on the hawk eye to not replay points was hugely unfair. The umpire should have given Kyrgios the benefit of the doubt knowing that the only reason the call was challenged was because the line judge called it out.

Challenge, have the call overruled in her favour, and then refuse to take the point and agree with Caroline instead? An issue with the technology doesn’t make her a hypocrite. And she didn’t contest having to replay the point. Would love to know how you would have handled that scenario better.

    Kyrgios is out of line with his constant abuse of the umpire, but most of his gripes are spot on. Nadal should play to the server pace and the umpire should deal with it immediately. Nadal's camp should be quiet when Kyrgios is in that corner. Kyrgios shouldn't have to apologize for hitting Nadal with a groundstroke from BEHIND the baseline - should he only be pleased when the ball comes back at him slowly?

    • @skychaos87
      @skychaos87 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      nick should have served the ball regardless, only then the umpire will have to make the call and judgement whether to replay the point. that's how you properly force the umpire to get involved. complaining and verbally abusing the umpire serve no real purpose at all.
      nick have every right to hit that shot straight at nadal, which is why he won the point. the apologizing is about etiquette, not rules. so while nick can aim the ball at the opponent and score points, people are not going to like him for that way of play. in tennis history, there has been players like ivan lendl who famously hit balls at his opponents, people did not dislike him because he does it in a way that he was going for point, not the player. the same cannot be said for nick. in the interviews he insinuated that he was going for him and said stuffs like "nadal made alot of money, he should be able to take a hit."

    • @kpwand
      @kpwand 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agree on the first point. I think it's also a tactic that Kyrgios uses against Nadal to verbally embarrass him on the court in front of the umpire and crowd. Nadal doesn't like to be considered unprofessional and it probably rankles him when he hears a complaint like that. I don't think Kyrgios gets enough credit for his mental game in big matches. He's just poor at being professional against guys he knows he can probably beat easily.
      With regards to hitting Nadal, I'm on the fence. I think Kyrgios is really saying that he aimed to hit Nadal and that if that was his intention, he doesn't see the point in an apology as it would be disingenuous. I have some respect for that. He's a street smart guy, but he shouldn't have added the part about Nadal's wealth and that he should be able to take a hit. Generally, Kyrgios was very gracious towards Nadal in the full interview. He loves controversy, but he needs to turn it on and off in order to win the crowds. Djokovic had similar issues early on in his career and then became a machine (for better or worse).
      Nadal is a diplomatic person and only he will intentionally hit a ball straight at a player - at point blank range - and apologize (as he did against Djokovic at the US Open?). Some top level players accept this as a legit tactic and move on. I can't see Kyrgios staring someone down for that, so it's probably consistent with his mode of behavior too.

    • @hanslaught2351
      @hanslaught2351 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@skychaos87 That could easily be Kyrgios just saying, "I'm gonna hit the ball to where I can get a point. If it hits Nadal, it should be no problem. It's part of the game." I don't see a thing wrong with it, except I guess that Kyrgios knows that tennis players are sensitive about this issue. Kyrgios could just apologize despite what he feels but that's not in him.
