One cool detail about the episode is that the timelapse of Frieren training her mana suppression is representing the entire 1000 years between Flamme's death and meeting Himmel. From ~16:47 of the anime to about ~17:27 (50 seconds), it shows us 1,000 years passing for Frieren. Then we get a scene showing how much she was able to suppress her mana, then meeting Himmel, followed by a quick 0.5 second montage of the Heroes' Journey. The montage was 1/100th the length of the timelapse, so it gives an idea of just how short her time with Himmel felt to her. And yet that short time still changed her this much. (You can also get 50 seconds if you start at 16:55 when the village begins to grow and end at 17:35 when the Himmel scene begins)

5:50 nah frieren just sleeps a lot lol. Nothing to do with the mana suppression. She’s been doing it for a thousand years now, it’s her natural state of being. It wouldn’t make her anymore tired as she’s used to it. Plus remember, Fern does it too, and for much less time than frieren has. But even so, fern can get up like a normal person and doesn’t oversleep a ton.
Flamme told Frieren not to make a name for herself so that she would be able to use her deception against the demon king. If she made a name for herself, then the demon king would already be wary of her power and she wouldn’t be able to fool them into underestimating her. It had nothing to do with earning anything.
@@DarwinAwardWinner it's not a spoiler, they just reminded again in the next episode, because Frieren talked about it with Fern about her being practically invisible in ep 1, then Frieren was wondering how much she had been studying implying probably Heiter had been telling her to study up, and taught her to that to only to be surprised she was getting very good at it.
Catching on to the earings was impressive. Most people didn't even notice. She didn't wear them till her journey with Himmel. There's a lot of small details like this sprinkled in that further flesh out the characters and it's great.
When I saw that scene for the first time I end up under the table with goosebumps XDD. The build up, music, animation, everything... JUST PERFECTION!!!
This episode was incredible. It basically spent 90% of the episode explaining why Aura lost the fight before it began and it still manages to floor you when she loses.
I love how the previous episodes make you think that maybe this is the first time we will see Frieren properly fight since she's supposedly up against a foe that could match her but no, Frieren is on a whole different scale of power than all of them.
Also, that split second of a montage of their 10-yr adventure to fight the demon king shows how short it was compared to her montage of solitude after Flamme died. And it made me understand why she said she wanted to retrace the journey before her memory of that adventure fades.
Himmel complimenting her master's favourite spell. 50 years being a short time for humans but a long enough time to fall out of life with msgic. It's perfect.
I love the contrast between how Frieren has learned to carefully treat the human bodies of Aura's executioners vs. how brutally she dealt with Aura the Demon herself. The pettiness of forcing the Guillotine to off herself using her own favorite method of killing reveals how Frieren's hatred for demons has stilled remained despite 1000 years. She's often portrayed as relatively emotionless, but that aspect still hasn't left her. Even when they first encountered Lugner in town, she immediately drew her staff and prepared to kill him. It also highlights how important the "mere 10 year journey" with Himmel was; it restored her love for magic and the simple joy of finding new spells.
First of all, I don't understand English, so I'm sorry if my English is a little weird. I love both of your reactions. Looks like the Aura battle is over. Frieren is so cool ^^. I've heard that people who know the original work quite like this battle. But the good thing about this anime is that it's not all about fighting like Kimetsu no Yaiba or Jujutsu Kaisen. You'll see a lot of Himmel's cool things and famous quotes in the flashbacks ahead. The characters in this anime are originally in German, and the English subtitles also use German, so I thought I'd write a pronunciation that is closer to English. The "A" in Aura is pronounced as "∧", and the "ura" after it is pronounced as is. Frieren is freelen. Himmel is Hinmel. Eisen is Aizen. Heiter is Haiter. Fern is Ferun. Stark is Shutaruku. I guess this is about it. I think these are the closest pronunciations.
She definitely earned her name, "Aura the Guillotine" I agree. We knew the outcome way early, but the reveal was epic. Evan Call's music in the background added to it.
I want you guys to think about Heiter estimated mana from his dialogue with the party. If Frieren has mana worth 1000 years and she surpress it to 100 years that means Heiter has roughly 500 years worth of mana, i guess all of them are goated
i assume fern is fast with her magic because she was in a rush to learn it since a very early age. her being able to hide her mana might also be connected to her childhood, maybe she had to hide when her parents got killed, but also the fact that frieren was teaching her from the start.
13:00 Yes! I loved that it wasn't so much about her having to fight Aura but the fact she already had won when Aura stepped forward to challenge Frieren. Then the build up for Frieren's mana reveal was the peak and just with no emotion what so ever being ordered to kill herself like that. Aura got done dirty but in a way that was perfectly told as part of the story. The fact Demons treat mana like status and take everything at face value thinking that clearly humans and elves can't be better then them. What really makes it is the fact Friren knew the outcome of all this from the start, she had no worries that Fern and Stark would lose and she almost predicted Aura to challenge her, as she said she would of been in trouble if she had to fight the entire army alone but Demons aren't like that.
1:42 can't believe I never noticed the earring detail before despite my multiple rewatches and read 😭 Frieren has such phenomenal world building, from the consistency in how mana/magic works, to how the demon kind's characteristics are well thought out.
LOL! Great job with the shades as Frieren walks away. We all knew it was going to end with the scales the second it was introduced as the way Aura controls people. Loved the time we see of Flamme and Frieren. Good pick up on the earrings. The way that Flamme and Frieren were trained was kind of like a crappy thing for mages and really only serves to kill demons. The magic that wants to be created and let loose into the world is restrained. I think that's why Frieren only somewhat likes magic now, but I think traveling with Himmel and the others she's taken up to collecting and seeing what magic is out there and has thus restored her love in magic.
This is the most Dragon Ball episode, kinda. Not just the ki/mana control, but the fact that the Big Bad is condensed into a tiny little creature (Vegeta, Frieza, true Buu, etc) that can unleash the horrors of hell on the world. If only Aura had some super beefcake muscleman standing next to her at all times to highlight the contrast lol (Before I forget again, I obviously wrote this comment with a DBZ lens because of the t-shirt and framed poster in the background)
One thing I liked about the episode was that after Fern's and Stark's fight, we were expecting something flashier or like a brutal fight. Instead, we got an entire episode explaining how Frieren is so OP, she doesn't even need to put much of an effort to get rid of one of the Demon King's Generals! They didn't give us what we thought we wanted, they gave us what we didn't know we needed!
A demon who lived for 500 years and spend the majority of that time training to become powerful Our beloved grandma Frieren : kys I love re-watching these while waiting for the new episode to come out ♥
My guess is that the deamon king had a intuitive flash that a elf will become a tthreat to him & his forces . So he decided to strike while he had the advantage of numbers & power.
Not really Spoiler . . . . . . . It actually wasn't Frieren but Heiter that taught Fern. She was already suppressing her mana when she meets Frieren. In a later episode, Heiter asks Frieren about magic in case he has someone to teach. He also knew that it was a good habit to suppress ones mana since Frieren used it to decieve demons and mages alike.
5:27 So I'm 6 months late, but you can actually see Frieren teaching Fern to supress her mana during her training in episode 1 or 2, can't remember. You see Fern standing in a small circle drawn on the ground, Frieren probably told Fern to suppress her mana enough to keep it in that circle, so this is one of the first things she was taught by Frieren, and she's most likely been using it constantly since then
Fun Fact: Almost all of the Names in this Anime are German Words: Frieren = Freeze Himmel = Sky Heiter = Cheerful Eisen = Iron Fern = Distant, Far Stark = Strong Flamme = Flame Lügner = Liar ... its funny for me as a german ♥
Heiter probably told Fern to focus on hiding her mana, because he learned about it from Freiren. He couldn't teach her specifics about MagiCraft as he wasn't a Mage as he said when he asked her to take Fern as an apprentice. Also, Flamme told her to live a quite life below the radar so she wouldn't get targeted by the demons until she grew strong enough to kill the demon king. Aura even said it, Freiren is a mysterious Mage of unknown age who just showed up one day around a hundred years ago. If they knew how old Freiren was, they would have an idea just how powerful she should be as the older you get the stronger your mana gets. This is why the demon king ordered the destruction of the elves. The elves are the only race that could live long enough to become a threat.

Australian Aura be like "arr naur my mannaur"
LOVED the glasses!
5:26 "How could Fern do this?"
A good question indeed...
SPOILER
Heiter taught Fern about it. Heiter learnt Frieren does suppress her mana. It will be covered in the next episodes
@@gangsarisworo3759Maybe don't post unmarked spoilers for future episodes?
@@DarwinAwardWinner it's not a spoiler, they just reminded again in the next episode, because Frieren talked about it with Fern about her being practically invisible in ep 1, then Frieren was wondering how much she had been studying implying probably Heiter had been telling her to study up, and taught her to that to only to be surprised she was getting very good at it.
@@fluffytigers This is only hinted at in previous episodes. It hasn't been explained yet.
Now THAT was a power move if I ever saw one! 🤩 Your reactions were appropriate!👍😂😂
That's why the Ending song "Milet-Anytime Anywhere" is very related to Frieren's life.
husband and wife lose their head in the same week(aura's voice actress and eren‘s voice actor is a couple)
The teacher is really our 2nd mom like how Flamme to Frieren and Frieren to Fern. ❤
frieren didn't even have to lift a finger to defeat aura. she's so cool
10 points to the editor for the sunglasses hahah
I love how the previous episodes make you think that maybe this is the first time we will see Frieren properly fight since she's supposedly up against a foe that could match her but no, Frieren is on a whole different scale of power than all of them.
So glad you guys picked up this series ❤❤❤
I say one of the coldest kill in all of anime by an mc. Haha Frieren the 🐐. 👑🥶💙
Frieren is elegant even finishing off demons. Clean and effortless. Pure flexing.
Frieren also uses the flower spell on Himmel's grave a few episodes ago
Frieren is so gooooooood! I can attest this show gets better and better everytime!
I've watched this scene for at least 30 times now and it never gets old. Sometimes you have to show people who's boss 😁
Ange, that earring detail isn't something I've noticed! That's such a neat detail!
Heiter taught Fern to control her mana because he knew how important it was to Frieren.
"fun little trivia". aura's VA is the wife of eren' VA and funny that both their characters got killed by decapitation
Damn I didn't realized about the earrings before. You guys are sharp as ever!
kinda, they did think Fern was an elf
I want you guys to think about Heiter estimated mana from his dialogue with the party. If Frieren has mana worth 1000 years and she surpress it to 100 years that means Heiter has roughly 500 years worth of mana, i guess all of them are goated
i assume fern is fast with her magic because she was in a rush to learn it since a very early age. her being able to hide her mana might also be connected to her childhood, maybe she had to hide when her parents got killed, but also the fact that frieren was teaching her from the start.
aura got guillotined no pun intended:))),frieren has like twice her mana.
This was a masterfully written episode. We know Frieren is OP, but we don't even need a fight to show much she out classed Aura
😲👀... O P ...done right !! 👍🏻
Its a masterpiece !!
The reactions, keep em' comming 😭😁😍
1:42 can't believe I never noticed the earring detail before despite my multiple rewatches and read 😭
Frieren has such phenomenal world building, from the consistency in how mana/magic works, to how the demon kind's characteristics are well thought out.
suppressing mana is a natural state for Frieren. She doesn't get tired from it. she was just tired from it when starting out on that approach.
I didn't even notice she had her earrings, damn
This is the most Dragon Ball episode, kinda. Not just the ki/mana control, but the fact that the Big Bad is condensed into a tiny little creature (Vegeta, Frieza, true Buu, etc) that can unleash the horrors of hell on the world. If only Aura had some super beefcake muscleman standing next to her at all times to highlight the contrast lol
(Before I forget again, I obviously wrote this comment with a DBZ lens because of the t-shirt and framed poster in the background)
all i could think about was ki control and how the z-fighters used hiding their ki to their advantage in the saiyan and namek arcs
"It was so cut throat"...lol
evan call designed an epic ost that reminds lotr and it fits perfectly with this anime
A demon who lived for 500 years and spend the majority of that time training to become powerful
Our beloved grandma Frieren : kys
I love re-watching these while waiting for the new episode to come out ♥
My guess is that the deamon king had a intuitive flash that a elf will become a tthreat to him & his forces .
So he decided to strike while he had the advantage of numbers & power.
I was waiting for your reaction to this episode!
The kill yourself moment is savage, but it needs the whole context of the past few episodes to be as impactful as it was. Epic setup.
Frieren taught Fern on supressing the mana. It's in the early episodes of the series
Not really

It actually wasn't Frieren but Heiter that taught Fern. She was already suppressing her mana when she meets Frieren. In a later episode, Heiter asks Frieren about magic in case he has someone to teach. He also knew that it was a good habit to suppress ones mana since Frieren used it to decieve demons and mages alike.
5:27 So I'm 6 months late, but you can actually see Frieren teaching Fern to supress her mana during her training in episode 1 or 2, can't remember. You see Fern standing in a small circle drawn on the ground, Frieren probably told Fern to suppress her mana enough to keep it in that circle, so this is one of the first things she was taught by Frieren, and she's most likely been using it constantly since then
Evil Frieren be like: Aura, live a happy life. You matter. Your life has meaning.
Frieren : "Hey Aura wanna see something cool?"
the gamer word "kys" is strong
Frieren is the best written female character of all time
Frieren es un Anime top 3 de la historia sin duda
Fun Fact: Almost all of the Names in this Anime are German Words:
Frieren = Freeze
Himmel = Sky
Heiter = Cheerful
Eisen = Iron
Fern = Distant, Far
Stark = Strong
Flamme = Flame
Lügner = Liar
... its funny for me as a german ♥
The show is awesome thanks for reacting ❤❤❤❤
Aura: It's over 9000!!!
I was waiting for this episode, just for that scene
Next is Apothecary diaries !!!!
