    The anime added a contrast in that: when Fern was upset with Frieren earlier on, when Richter asked her whether she was Frieren's student she was silent and Stark had to answer for her. After Frieren fixed her staff she realized that Frieren really cared for her and that led to her saying loud and proud to Serie that she's Frieren's student.

    I think Frieren is the type of anime that the more life experience you have, the more you can relate and reflect, which is why its so great. Younger audience in their teens will likely to find this anime boring (saw quite a few of those comments elsewhere), but those of us who are older, its 1000% hits the feels.

      I am 18 but its my favorite anime lol
      But i understand your opinion
      Some teens just have too short of a attention span to find frieren interesting
      It seems boring to them

      Its aslo overhyped tbh... I mean its my favourite show but no way in hell all these people that usually like fast paced shounen action suddenly like frieren..
      They probably just like the fight scenes in frieren and are compelled by the hype to say its their favourite.

      @@ripunjay40 Although I don't watch exclusively shouen, I usually perfer fast paced shows and have never found a slice of life that I liked (it's just not for me, even bochi was just meh). Which is why, though Frieren technically isn't a slice of life and I therefore liked it, I didn't like it *that much* to begin with. But it's because of this perspective that I'm positive that this will change with season 2 (if the quality of the animation doesn't drop too hard), for people similar to my tastes.

    Serie's fluctuations of mana means she is also restraining her mana like Frieren.
    What we can learn in this episode is Frieren's full mana is equal to Serie's suppressed mana..

      translation in the manga actually says that frieren's total mana is ALMOST equal to Serie's suppressed mana, which is even more crazy to think about how much of a beast Serie actually is.

      Curious as to why Lernen knows how big Frieren's mana output truly is. Detecting fluctuation in mana is one thing, but managed to determine one's real mana pool while Frieren herself was still restraining hers?

    Purple flower that Serie gazed at during the exam was Lupine, and the language of flowers is "Imagination". It is a metaphor for the fact that imagination is the most important thing for magic.

    Love the writing in this show. Himmel was lost and alone in the forest, so Frieren saves him. In the future, Frieren is alone in the forest and Himmel recruits her to the team and "rescues" her from her life of drifting around for a thousand years.

    Serie said that she didn't want magic to be popular and felt sad that she couldn't see eye to eye with Flamme YET she became the head of this organization anyways.
    Serie said that suppressing one's mana is an incredibly inefficient feat YET she started to suppress her mana even to this day.
    Serie also said that the spell to create a field of flowers is truly useless YET she hosted the test in a blossoming flower garden. (=ω=)
    Serie said that she is disappointed. I think it's because
    A. Lernen could spot the fluctuation of mana in Frieren but not hers.
    B. Frieren has been suppressing her mana for roughly a thousand years but was still detected by Lernen. (which I think that's the true reason Serie failed her. Serie was ready to argue with Frieren if Frieren doesn't accept the L but we all knew what happened)
    Serie's last line: "Next" was delivered with an attitude lol. Props to VA (also the VA of Killua)

    • @adamwu4565
      @adamwu4565 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think Serie would have passed Frieren if Frieren showed even the slightest bit of "fight". If she had been willing to argue back that she should pass. Remember that Serie already told Frieren in the past that she thought Flamme's flower spell was a silly, childish, and useless spell. So Frieren naming that as her favorite spell even after Serie told her she was giving her "one last chance" is basically Frieren saying, "Yeah, you want to fail me. I don't care. Go ahead."

    The part when Hieter mentions to Fern to remember that Frieren could better be translated better as
    "Frieren has poor emotion and empathy. I am sure it will cause you difficulties and disagreements. But there is one good thing about her. She will worry about you and care for you to MAKE up for it. It will be hard to find a better master than her".
    The other thing is...everything will connect , one way or another in our lives. How flower spell connected Flamme to Frieren, and to Himmel, and to Eisen/Hieter...and how Hieter to Fern, and how a restrictive mana from Frieren to Fern, allowed Fern to see the unstable mana in Serie.....

    • @adamwu4565
      @adamwu4565 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is subtle character growth shown here. The last time Frieren upset Fern by being emotionally oblivious, Frieren spent a fair bit of time just confused and not knowing why Fern got upset. This time she immediately gets the reason and sets about to remedy the situation. And when Richter says that the broken staff is "trash", she immediately responds with "It's not trash. I think." The Frieren from 10 episodes ago likely wouldn't have said that, and may have said something like "Yes, but Fern loves it" instead. There is also the possibility that Fern overreacted and misinterpreted what Frieren said. Frieren may well have always intended to get her staff fixed, and actually meant "you should get a new staff because the third stage exam is tomorrow and I don't know how long it will take to get your old one fixed" and Fern just jumped to the wrong conclusion.

    This anime has a good sense of language 😌
    The manga often goes on hiatus because the author carefully depicts the words and actions of the characters.
    Season 2 will probably be in 3 to 4 years at the earliest🥲

    I read an interesting comment on Serie and Frieren on another reaction video:
    Frieren says that she loves collecting grimoires and is always looking for more "legendary" spells without combat applications, yet she's the one known as Frieren the Slayer.
    Serie says that those spells are useless and a waste of time and that combat magic is what is important, yet she's the one known as the living grimoire who knows all spells.
    To me Serie is just as much of an interesting and conflicted character as Frieren. They're really not as different, as they appear to be at first glance.

    don't know why fern was the basis of "the era of humans have arrived" when there are already strong humans before like himmel, heiter, lernen, and flamme. Not to mention the character hero of the south which frieren mentioned before to be mankind's strongest. So the era of humans should've started a long time ago. Or the era of humans means when humans start to see the fluctuation of serie's mana?

    • @landmerry_6742
      @landmerry_6742 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      She said “has arrived”, not “is arriving”. It's not like the 80 yrs before is going to be excluded, she meant probably the elimination of the demon king means that humans will have free reign to develop however they like, whether that has anything to do with their war magic abilities.

    • @adamwu4565
      @adamwu4565 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Don't forget that Frieren wasn't saying that just to say it. She was saying it to Serie as part of an argument that Serie should not fail Fern. She is deliberately reminding Serie of what Serie herself had said 1000 years ago, that in about 1000 years, the era of humans will arrive.

  • @adamwu4565
    @adamwu4565 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This might be a coincidence, but both Serie and Frieren are suppressing their mana in a way consistent with their known reputations. Frieren as we had seen normally keeps her mana at the level one would expect to see from a mage with about 100 years of training. She is most famous for being a part of the hero party 80 years ago. So assuming that she trained for a while before reaching a level competent for adventuring, and then immediately went on her quest (as a human might expect someone to do) anyone who knows her from those legends but is unaware of how long she had lived prior to that, would not be surprised to sense 100 years worth of mana coming from her.
    Whereas for Serie, it is possible that some people in the world still know of her as the Master of Flamme, given how famous Flamme is among humans, as well as the fact that Flamme asked her to take over the Imperial Mages after her death 1000 years ago, and she very likely needed to get approval from the Imperial Government before being allowed to make that request, and there could be a record of that in the Imperial archives somewhere. Serie also has a reputation for being the strongest living mage in the world. So someone sensing Serie to have mana equivalent to someone somewhat older than 1000 years (ie, slightly higher than Frieren's unsuppressed level) would also not be surprised. It fits with Serie's legend.
    Because you might not want to go into battle suppressing your mana TOO much. Maybe Demons with their arrogance about mana might fall for it regardless, but human or elven opponents who know something about you could get suspicious if they sense a lot less mana from you than what they expect you should have based on your reputation. And if they get suspicious enough to pay close attention, they may notice fluctuations that they might not notice at a brief glance (since it is impossible for a living being to completely hide ALL fluctuations completely). And if they notice the fluctuations, by observing you even more carefully, they might be able to estimate how much mana you really have, just as Lernen did with Frieren. Which would defeat the whole purpose of hiding your mana in the first place.
    Whereas by presenting yourself exactly as the opponent expects you to be like would allay any suspicions they might have and make it easier for you to hide the fact that you are actually a lot stronger than even your reputation says you are.
