  • Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross S-AWC | Diagonal test | It's inconsistent!
    Test note: The Eclipse Cross failed on the 1st attempt, then it got better for a few runs, then gave up again... And finally, it works flawlessly for a few runs until we decided to stop the test. It's INCONSISTENT! For better success, use the SNOW mode and leave TCS ON!
    S-AWC is combining electronically controlled 4WD with Mitsubishi Motors' proprietary Active Yaw Control [AYC], which uses braking to optimally distribute torque to the left and right wheels. Even if you unintentionally brake or accelerate too hard around a snow-covered turn, you can maintain control without extra steering effort because S-AWC detects road conditions on a real-time basis and adjusts braking, as well as a coupling in the rear differential, to improve vehicle performance. An indicator in the instrument panel keeps you informed of S-AWC status. You can choose the AUTO, SNOW or GRAVEL drive mode depending on road conditions to enhance turning accuracy, straight-line stability and manoeuvrability on slippery roads.
    AUTO mode
    Provides solid 4WD performance in various conditions.
    SNOW mode
    Enhances stability on slippery road surfaces and is optimized for snow-covered roads.
    GRAVEL mode
    Delivers excellent driving performance on rough roads and helps prevent you from getting stuck.
    Eclipse Cross comes standard with a 1.5-liter direct-injection turbo power plant that offers a compelling combination of drivability, performance and efficiency. This new turbo technology provides both strong torque and better fuel efficiency with 152 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 184 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 rpm.
    So check out our diagonal test of the new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross S-AWC!

    I can notice a huge difference with my Eclipse Cross SEL S-AWC between the Auto Setting and the Gravel Setting. On the Gravel Setting when accelerating hard all the bars on the graph light up but in Auto only 1 or 2 lights up. In Snow mode I can get about 3 to 4 to light up when accelerating hard. If you pull out fast you can actually feel all 4 wheels gripping especially the rear when in Gravel mode and accelerating and it does really good in the snow and mud in the Gravel Setting it has done amazing. I like using the Snow mode if its Raining or Snowing and it grips the road great while driving at city or highway speed and really sticks in turns without under or over steering. This is a really good on road AWD system for inclement weather like rain, ice, and snow, slick turns, muddy roads and the occasional light off road. But this vehicles AWD (S-AWC) really makes for a safe and stable cruiser in all weather.

      @Fredsreviews58 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can I ask you if you use gravel mode during normal driving, such as in turns and driving fast? I have a 2018 that I love but have never used Gravel besides for in deep snow going SLOW. Thanks!

    • @kmckenzie2461
      @kmckenzie2461 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Fredsreviews58 yes you absolutely can. It just sends more power to the rear to make it a more all when drive or rear biased set up. It will change stability and pulling out traction to feel more secure. Pull out fast from a stop in auto then pull out fast from a stop in gravel and watch the difference on the S-AWC Gauge in the cluster and feel the grip difference. There are no speed restrictions in the manual or anything. Gravel runs at a standard split of 70% front 30% rear but will adjust all the way to 40% front 60% rear if needed. I use it occasionally and anytime it snows I use gravel in town, interstate and side roads because it is its strongest setting.

  • @kmckenzie2461
    @kmckenzie2461 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    This is how each S-AWC mode (Auto-Snow-Gravel) distributes power from Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Press Sheet
    Auto - 80% Front 20% Rear Standard but can change all the way to 55% Front 45% Rear. This mode returns the best fuel economy and will switch around accordingly for multiple road surfaces.
    Snow - 80% Front 20% Rear Standard but can change all the way to 45% Front 55% Rear. This mode is for slippery surfaces such as rain and snow and will adjust accordingly.
    Gravel - 70% Front 30% Rear Standard but can change all the way to 40% Front 60% Rear making this more rear drive biased than front drive if the system detects the need. This mode is for poor road conditions such as snow, mud, gravel, and to help get the vehicle un-stuck. You can see on the S-AWC graphic when driving in this mode how much more power is distributed compared to the Auto and Snow mode and can feel the rear wheels really grabbing when pulling out from a stop with heavy throttle.

    Slow motion is interesting - seems like the rotational speed of wheel impacts the way the computer will dispatch power. For sure, this car has 3 modes (normal, snow, gravel) and those modes make a differences in snow condition - but not always obvious to feel. Other point, traction control on/off also impact the overall traction comportment of the vehicle while keeping active stability control. Sounds like we could do a couple of comparative tests like this with different setups. Do we have a feedback regarding the setup used for this test? For sure in snow, this car is very impressive - but its high gravity center affect its steering ability and traction in snow curves. We won't do that, but with wheels spacers and stock 225 tires, I pretend the handling may be improved.

    We love our 2 brand new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SELs with Touring Package and S-AWC that we purchased in Octane Blue and Red Diamond. These are great vehicles and now we have owned 5 Mitsubishis and they are all we will own after owning several other new car brands over the years. This AWD system is not really made for strong off-roading in my opinion it is made more so for on road handling, light off road, safety & security & for bad weather such as snow, ice and heavy rain while driving. My Eclipse Cross handled the snow and ice with ease this year and you can feel the grip while driving it through turns and pulling out with the S-AWC switching power around with its abs, traction control, active yaw control and torque vectoring. When you put it in gravel mode while driving in the snow it was an amazingly strong performer and you could really feel it sending power to the rear wheels. In the dry in gravel mode it really sticks to the road. The snow mode also done great in the snow/rain. The S-AWC in the Eclipse Cross done amazing getting me to work in the snow and ice and going up the hill to my driveway it handled all situations this winter so far with no sliding or spinning. I feel very secure driving the Eclipse Cross in bad weather which is what most of the Eclipse Cross drivers will use its S-AWC system for. Great vehicle and we got our top trim fully equipped brand new models for around $7,000.00 off MSRP. We could not find a better deal or price for all the high end tech and safety features, reliability, warranty, crash safety scores, and all this for around $26,000.00 after rebates and discounts for the top trim fully optioned out model. Thanks Mitsubishi!!!

    Doubt the eclipse cross torque distribution vector was for situation like this ... more of a speed moving stabilization and not this situation.. most difinatly it wld not stuck in this situation...
    In the real world I wldnt have approach at such a slow creep (basically stop) ...a lower steady rev would hve activate 4wd traction than high rev ...... understand this that the electronics set up in Mitsubishi varies from most manufactory.... safety ...step on gas pedal frm a dead stop n vehicle will delay (safety) not lag ... vehicle lean at such angle n high rev computer more overriding 4wd traction not to engage........ similar test was carried out n vehicle pass easily...

    Mitsubishi DNA - Eclipse Cross is the best in its class for on road and off road driving.
    1)The German OFF ROAD magazine has voted Eclipse cross as the best crossover for 2018.
    2) The ELK test is the optimal test to see the suspension, traction control and steering of a car, in this test Eclipse Cross is the best in its category, 10km/h faster than Subaru, BMW, and Mazda , VW etc!!!. Therefore, Mitsubishi is best C -SUV for 'on road ' driving. The test is from the famous spanish kom.77 . Take a look
    th-cam.com/video/OhX0pJs_ffs/w-d-xo.html
    th-cam.com/video/olp8TdPvvkc/w-d-xo.html
    th-cam.com/video/W0Zs3D4B1WM/w-d-xo.html
    3) As for your diagonal test: In real life you don't stop the car at the apex of the cone. This is why you overheat CVT. Your diagonal test result is different than other experts. Mitsubishi has won 5 WRC and 12 Paris- Dakar and the AWD acts better when you drive >15 km/hour to provide stability in snow, sand and other off -road condition.
    4) Conclusion I respect your test but when I choose a car I do care for both on and of road capabilities. One diagonal test, is not enough to reveal the car's capabilities!

      sometimes awd useless, Subaru used break to fix them in real life, pick up used rear lock to maintain the failure.

      @@TMS5100 hahaha i am only asking you if gold mine looks like a gravel parking lot. but it was only a few cuv that reached that stage. Did you watch the video? that jeep has a rear locker against that little cuv with only an awd and not a real 4x4. But atleast it finished that stage in gold mine hill. now put a pajero against that jeep then let see and how that jeep will last a long of a beating in offroad :D

    As bad as it is , it’s still better than 2010 RAV4 !!! the RAV didn’t make it at all . Auto and 4WD with TCS on/off DID NOT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE . RAV COULD NOT CLIMB A 1% incline. Toyota is garbage.
