Wow! I have no regrets with my Eclipse Cross!!

I've spent a few weeks with the Eclipse Cross and its CVT is definitely the best example of the breed I can name - its stepped ratios make it feel much more like a regular automatic than most other CVTs that I've tried. Tied to that torquey 1.5-litre turbo and it moves surprisingly well.

Haha that’s hysterical my jeeps have been way more reliable then the pos Mitsubishi’s we have owned! Our lancer has been threw 2 cvt transmissions in 63k miles!

Ram Runner really? I had an 05 lancer bought it brand new maintained it. Had 220k miles and sold it working like brand new. Idk about new ones but I can vouch for the older Mitsubishi. Also have a 15 Wrangler 2 door

I owned 3 misubishi car/suv back in the 90s. and found them very reliable when others said wasn't.

My wife's 2015 mirage has racked up quite a few miles, runs like new. I have a couple of friends with newer Lancers with high miles, they run like new as well. Mitsubishis can be almost as reliable as Toyotas in my experience, but they won't take neglect very well like a Toyota can. So maintenance is key.

Our Eclipse Crosses are great little SUVs with a peppy engine (I measure 8.8 seconds 0-60 Cumberland MD), decent fuel economy (now averaging 24 mpg city/highway, it was lower but now that it has 3,000 miles its doing about 2-3 mpg better), a ton of cool features, Mitsubishi Brand Reliability, and a nice long warranty. The deals we got were unbeatable and we have had great luck with Mitsubishi. We used to always purchase new Hyundai and Kias and loved them all and had great luck with them all until the 2013 Hyundai Elantra GLS we had for 2 years and 13,000 miles had 1 issue after another from electrical issues, steering and suspension issues, rattles, getting stuck in park, random not starting, engine whine and more. So we decided to give Mitsubishi a try and have now owned 5 of them and will only but Mitsubishi. There is just sumin about their cars that we really enjoy even down to the basic little Mirage and the deals they offer cannot be be for what you get.
Ok back on topic. We have two 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SELs with Touring Package and S-AWC that we got new in October 2019 two days apart. We have one in Octane Blue and our other one is Red Diamond.
I love all the niceties the SEL Touring comes with like black leather with orange stitching, 2 sunroofs and the front one opens and the rear has its own shade control, all the advanced safety features and driving aids like forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane change assist, blinding spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, radar cruise, auto high beams, rain sensing wipers, 7 air bags, and more, power driver seat, power folding mirrors when you lock car or by button on door, 360 multi view camera with steering wheel button to change views, heated steering wheel, heated front and rear seats, 710 watt 9 speaker rockford fosgate audio system, push button start and keyless access and entry, adjustable led headlights, led tail lights, reclining and sliding rear seats, 3 mode push button s-awc system, electric parking brake, lighted and sliding visor mirrors, auto dimming rear view mirror with home link buttons, dual zone auto climate control, paddle shifter for cvt (I will never use accept maybe on a steep grade to slow down or going down hill in snow), 18 inch alloy wheels and more! Also the Mitsubishi Connect App is great and can remote start and stop my car, put the rear defrost on and change interior temp, activate lights, activate horn, set speed alerts, find car, get text on everything your car does or if alarm goes off, see miles driven each day, and so many personal preference settings to the car can be changed even down to how long the rear wiper runs, the strength of air conditioning (comfort or eco), headlight settings and so so much more and it has a call center and sos button and that notifies Mitsubishi if air bags deploy or you can call if you have questions or just need info. Plus the Eclipse Cross has superior safety ratings! Very safe!
The build quality and interior is very good and sturdy feeling. The adjustable led headlights are awesome at night and wow do they light the road. I think one area they cheaped out on was on the top trim SEL they put halogen fog lights in. Seriously? They looked ugly at night matched to the white colored headlights. So I upgraded the fog bulbs to the Sylvania led bulbs and now they match perfect and was just a simple swap, and I did the same with the rear back up light bulbs and license plate bulbs. Its a sturdy heavy feeling vehicle that feels and rides like a true suv which some people will not like but I do. It is very solidly made. The S-AWC is awesome in the rain, and snow and makes you feel very secure and safe in messy road conditions and especially
While turning at speed you feel stuck to the road. I do love the rear design (one of my main purchase reasons) and the rear led signature light up at night its sharp. Our MSRPs was around $33,000.00(Blue) - $34,000.00 (Red) for our two top trim new ones with added accessories and options but with dealer discounts and rebates from Mitsubishi we got about $7,000.00 off both ours and paid $26,000.00 (Blue) -$27,000.00 (Red). The Red one has the red and black carbon fiber sport front, side and rear lower moldings and the Red Diamond Paint cost extra so it cost $1,000.00 more than my Blue one. The deal could not be beat for what we got. We love our Eclipse Crosses.
We owned a 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport GT AWC for 3 years before this and a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage ES for 2 years and a 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE for 2.5 years and had no issues with any of them. All were CVT equipped also. Mitsubishi is a nice budget brand that comes feature packed, has a long warranty, reliable track record, time tested and proven powertrains in most models (this 1.5L Turbo 4 cylinder is new but I am sure it will be just as reliable as their other engines), plus its very very safe. My co worker has had her 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage ES CVT for 5.5 years and not one issue but regular maintenance and still has 5 years of warranty for engine and transmission! She has taken care of it getting oil changes done every 6 months and had a cvt fluid flush at 30,000 miles. Another girl at our work has a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer CVT with the same time tested and proven 2.4L 4 cylinder that our Mitsubishi Outlander Sport had and she has over 160,000 miles on it and its her 3rd Mitsubishi. She has had the cvt fluid changed 2 times possibly 3. The biggest thing with cvt transmissions is maintenance and fluid flushes as recommended. Everyone who owns a Mitsubishi that I personally know and have talked with love their them and they are a great reliable budget brand that is often overlooked do to the horrible car reviews where the owner reviews show a much different story! I will give it to TFL as they are always fair with Mitsubishis and treat them like any other car brand and name the positives and weaknesses so thank you TFL! My Co-Workers and friends have a range of Mitsubishis from 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer CVT, 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage ES CVT, 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer SE AWC CVT, 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander ES AWC CVT, 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport LE CVT, and our two 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SEL with Touring Package & S-AWC. Also the dealer in Altoona PA who services our vehicles is amazing. They are trustworthy, and affordable. We get a full synthetic oil and filter change, car wash, fluid fill, tire rotation, and multipoint inspection for $42.00 I believe with tax. We get a vip discount but even regular price is $49.99 for a synthetic oil change and $39.99 for regular and you get all thats listed above! Plus everytime we go they give us a new vehicles to go shopping in and eat out and come back when we feel like it. They have gave us Outlanders, Outlander Sports and Eclipse Crosses to use. Now we purchase all our Mitsubishis from Renn Kirby Mitsubishi in Frederick MD from Tommy Moberly due to the great customer service, HUGE discounts on top of the Mitsubishi Rebates and ease of sale. Each Mitsubishi we have bought there I do everything online for my loan, tell them what I want for my trade after finding what its worth, text him my info and then when we go in its a 30 minute procedure to sign and go. Love it.
So anyway just a long write up lol saying why I personally like Mitsubishi and why it fits us as a brand. If you have never had a Mitsubishi and are considering one you should definitely go for it! Thanks!

The CVT though it is is gear-less, the paddles do help in certain situations. If you are descending from a hill you want to "gear" down to not go over the speed limit; same as if it were an automatic. All you are accomplishing is engine braking; but better yet, if you want to merge on a highway, you can "gear" down before you need to hit the gas so the CVT doesn't spend the extra time changing ratios.

It probably helps that the CVT keeps the engine in the perfect power band of the engine. Still not a fan of CVTs...

    • @sic22l
      @sic22l 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Turbo and torque made the difference. Jeep may have 9 gears but it always starts in second which is pretty long which didn't help either.
Turbo engines are pretty elastic, they can provide pretty much max acceleration at quite wide rev range while CVT keeps the engine at the same rpm the whole time (while accelerating). And no, it didn't help the acceleration. With the CVT it's not the engine that does the acceleration, it's the gearbox itself and CVTs are crap at torque transfer. With a modern automatic Mitsuboshi would be even quicker.

Hi Guys, The compass in the Netherlands comes with a 1.4 liter turbo charged engine, producing 170 Hp and 250 Nm of torque. This gives it 0-100 (0-62) in 9.5 seconds and a top of 200 KM (125 miles) per hour. I believe the compass here performs better, but am not sure... Nice video by the way !!
The engine comes from Fiat and Alfa Romeo. The small Alfa's are all equipped with them for years, so it is a pretty reliable engine. (Mito & Giulietta)

The 2.4L "tigershark" is the same 2.4L "world engine" that has been humping around in the compass since 2006! I don't know what Multiair is, but it don't help that much. My son's Dart has the 2 liter Multiair and 6 speed, and compaired to my wife's hundred thousand mile 2.4L and CVT, It's a TURTLE! Whatever Multiair is, it doesn't add even a smidge of power.

Matter of opinion I guess, I priced both fully loaded and the cherokee was 41,000 and at that price I will get a well equipped grand cherokee. I just could never get a cherokee because of the awful look of it. The compass looks just like a little grand cherokee and has a larger cargo area than the cherokee.

@The Fast Lane Car >>> Still dont know why you guys complain about a CVT and then drag race in ECO mode. Put that sucker into sport mode so you can control the ratios!! AND...... Paddle shifters are not pointless on a CVT... You change ratios just like gears do. The only difference is that theres no gears. From a rolling start, try flooring it in ECO mode, then put it into sport mode and use the paddles and floor it, you will see a big change in throttle response and acceleration, especially because you can keep the engine at its optimal rpm, whereas in ECO mode always drops to the lowest rpm when you take it easy on the throttle. Want to make a great video, get 2 identical cars and use paddles on one, and eco mode on the other. Do rolling starts, and also launch from a complete stop.

9 speed trans is stupid when cvt is always in the best ratio all the time. 9 speed adds weight which kills the efficiency

To be far thats the problem with all of FCA's small vehicle lineup. There small vehicle engines suck. the 2.4 tigershark should be the base engine and they need a better fun engine. I assume they will use the 2.0T mild hybrid thats now in the brand new wrangler. (assuming it fits)
