For convenience, here's the five things to always be doing (36:07) 1) make WORKERS 2) make SUPPLIES 3) MACRO i.e. make an army 4) the NEXT STEP for your build order 5) UPGRADES Thanks, Day9!
Ok, i saw all this videos earlier today, practiced like 10 times in a row, late at night played som bgh, and really i feel like i improved some things. thanks man keep making this videos.
It's just funny to hear him say "I don't know what the etymology is of SimCity" haha. But I guess there's two parts to etymology, "where did it come from" (the really, really obvious part in this case) and "how did it come to be used this way". Thanks for your answer :)
I'm living in China so I play on Asian servers...and get my butt handed to me by Koreans all the time. NOW i know why in my latest TvP game when I lost to a zealot rush, the player said "sorry", and told me to watch videos. Thanks Day9!
A much easier way to test stuff like wall-ins is to open the map in the map editor ScmDraft. It can show you anything from Terrain walkability and collision boxes to unit ranges and in-game vision and you have access to all units instantly.
Somewhat unrelated: Could you do a Day 9 Daily of one of Shine's series in the ASL S3 in the Ro8 (against Mong) or Ro4 (against Bisu)? His games/strategies were insane and Shine's story is so awesome. It would be great to get the Day 9 insight/context of why the builds were so clever/unexpected. And it really show cases how deep and amazing Brood War is that Shine is making these completely unexpected builds in such an advanced meta against the top players in the world.
Hi, Day9! When I got to the hotkeys section of your video, I tried gently touching my number keys to get the hang of doing so before I actually play StarCraft.....I ended up touching the '1' key and went to the beginning.....Mr. Day9, I wish you could have put a timestamp or table of contents in these tutorial videos! Other than that, great job
I'm sure he'll talk about in next videos, but why didn't he mention the space bar usage (center camera on the last event)? For me and many others it's one of the most important key binds, it's just so convenient in BW. SCV good to go sir? Instant space bar click on minerals. Our forces are under attack? Quickest reaction possible with the space bar tap. It makes you so much faster once you'll have this habit
Awesome series - learning a lot. Got into your videos by watching you play hearthstone so it's great to watch you play the game on which you cut your teeth.
With multiple bases, should I put each CC on a hotkey, or set up cameras over the bases, and mouseclick to produce workers? The second seems to make more sense to me.
In the Zerg example I don't understand what exactly he was explaining having to let Drones build up and then send them to minerals. How is that different from Terran and Toss? Couldn't you just use closer rally points?
Dino Spumoni The hatcheries also build atacking units, so the drones get rallied away from the mineral lines. So he needs to manage the workers differently from the other races.
At 19:36 the bottom of the barracks is shifted one unit upwards from the bottom of the depot, so it's not really analogous to 19:55 where they have bottom edges that line up. If you had a barracks to the right of a depot with lined-up bottom edges, could the zealot still get through?
I finally played all the way through SC1 and Brood War without using cheats with the release of remastered. I always used to use cheats on the 'hard' missions when I was younger.
"I don't know what the etymology of this is" - I'm pretty sure it's straightforward "city planning and management" like the game SimCity, buuuuut... edit: nvm, you explained it. I've always called the whole of base layout and the planning of building placement to be SimCity, but I guess every game and community has its own lexicon.
Anthony Coglianese Maximized production is something like 1.5x the minerals and 3x the geysers. If a geyser is far, sometimes a fourth gets production a little higher, but often not enough to be worth it. Similarly, more distant mineral fields are slightly less efficient because there's more time spent traveling.
first. i love you vids, all of them, thank you! seconds on these vids, you overlaid background is more in spec than your beautiful face... please get better camera or take the background out of focus :)

It's really nice that you played Zerg and are most familiar with them, since larva-management is pretty complex.

Calls a 3x2 rectangle a square
laughs it off
I love Day9

i'm also new, and am going to do this today wish me luck! also PM if you wanna practise with someone!
@@miniclip1162 yo still alive? i'm starting
@@LogoSystemCG ho damn that was a long time ago. I didnt really get far! But sure why the heck not haha.
Day9 is THE best StarCraft Broodwar teacher there is. I hope you see this @Day9TV - your the best
I'm here thinking "Oh Base management this should be a short video" Day9 "I'm going to show you so much shit that will blow your mind!!!"
NappaTheProducer Nappa what does the scouter say about his APM?
For those wondering about simcitying "The term originates from a Guide Frozenarbiter wrote for the Map Rush Hour. "
Alexandru Minzatu or from the popular game series SimCity
pelikojootti in case you are not trolling, i meant the first case in which the term was used for starcraft was the case i mentioned.
i wasn't, okey

And FrozenArbiter is Jinro, FYI.
i dont even care about learning starcraft im just watching this for entertainment. day 9 is a god amongst men

I'm in Japan and having an awful time.. 😂 can't even get in on hunters games because I don't have perfect latency
This video teaching me that overcooked is the true successor to brood war.

I'm not at all interested in play Starcraft. But I really highly enjoy watching it. Which is the reason I'm watching this.
Very informative! Thanks, Sean!
Man these are so good to watch

Best video series on youtube Kreygasm
Ah, the good ol' probes and pylons lesson. :')
I played BW with friends in the day but never was any good. Looking forward to more great tutorials/lessons/reminders
20:50 oh come on!
despite my eyes
19:27 is the inconsistent one in terms of the green hitboxes
You should put your face under the menu button in-game.
Qwerty Quazo that would just make it look worse
I don't think so. I believe it would be cool.
Just stream his twitch tv channel and overlay his face ontop of the unit portrait rectangle in game.
Loving these! Keep them up Sean!
I'm not planning on getting good at brood war at all but these lessons are too gratifying
Amazing channel!

Wow this game is awesome and this series even better. Tks!
I had to laugh at around 46:04. "Protoss is basically going to work the same way as terran" - enables cheat codes - xD
Odors, captain?
'''A big obnoxious pile of garbage.'' I feel some resentment towards Siege Tanks.
I don't even play SC, but love SC content

Nostalgia hype!

same can anyone explain this?
Dino Spumoni The hatcheries also build atacking units, so the drones get rallied away from the mineral lines. So he needs to manage the workers differently from the other races.

29:13 You want to try to have as little as that as terranly possible :D
I've noticed that both Day9 and Tasteless say the word "rather" with a more British pronounciation ^_^ like raw-ther
I like Starcraft
Old fashioned cheat codes make me moist.
Black sheep wall
This was so interesting
How do you get to experiment with other race units as Terran? Do you have to start as Protoss and build a dark archon and go from there?
It's still the fifth episode, even if you're zero-indexing.
i hope you talk about every unit in the next epizodes
Can you group barracks and factory under 5 hotkey like in SC2 and then go through them with TAB?
for terran it helps to make 9 and 10 hotkeys your comsats so you dont hav eto waste time clicking on them when you need them also
When the zealots attacked I died laughing
I guess you really do have to be ready for early zealot rushes.
11:46 for SimCitying demonstration!
Havent been playing BW for yearssssss Jesus its so much more difficult to keep everything in order
What map is he using in these base management videos?
why do my props not start mining right away after they spawn ?
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is a good first map to begin practicing on?
It seems like the answer is Fighting Spirit. Very few people playing 1v1 on any maps that aren't Fighting Spirit, which seems sad in a way.
How do you set rally points across map quickly? I have to slowly do it.
Pretty sure you can do it by clicking on the mini map.
Just in case any of you have the memory of a goldfish lol I'm dying
No need to teach me the cheat codes Sean, I used them plenty to clear the campaign! ;)
I finally played all the way through SC1 and Brood War without using cheats with the release of remastered. I always used to use cheats on the 'hard' missions when I was younger.
Didn't we all?
It was frustrating when you did not know how to beat a difficult mission. Nowadays you just go and google for a walkthrough :)
eh, no ...@@TheFranchiseCA
He mentioned "FD opening". what does it mean? thanks!
google
What map is he on?
Campaign?
Where can I watch day9 just play starcraft? Is it on his streams only, or does he not record starcraft gameplay anymore?
Stephen Lee I think it might be offline AFAIK.
sorry, what?
Stephen Lee He plays but he doesn't want to stream it because it would be a lot more work. I think his skill level right now is also pretty bad.
Fucking amazing, best game ever along with Street Fighter 2 :)
You say you can now defend your base with marine micro, the supply depot, and the barracks without a wall.
Okay, but why not just wall?
Day9 teaching SIMCity 101 o.O
Infinite building time?... Uufff.. Sounds like a real super cheat code... >.>
Put the god damn cheats in BEFORE you save so you don't have to do it everytime. Sheesh.
EDIT: Ah, he mentioned that as well later on.
How many workers per base?

ya know, a lot of this applies to both Starcrafts. Woo.
9:38 humans are good at leaving large footprint in the ozone layer and the land that were destroying.
Like the other guy said : put that shit fullscreen and place your face in the portrait under 'menu'
Or just nowhere, we won't go "who's this guy talking and where is Sean, I can't see his face anywhere, so it must be someone else"...
Sean never looks at TH-cam comments if you have a suggestion gotta do it elsewhere
:) im the first one
I'm still upset that such an intelligent human being calls "squares" "hexes"...
Mind uploading a version without 'show me the money'?
