One of the grooviest grooves ever from the groove master. Pretty poetic too. That refrain of "Freddie's Dead" is like running right into a mossy wall...brings a hard message home with a soft edge. And holy shit, this guy breathes new life into everything he sings, even Happy Birthday.
Curtis could sing the phone book with a Strat and a wah-wah pedal hooked up, and I would enjoy it. Curtis Mayfield was at the center of the music scene in the early 70's. RIP
Just beautiful... this appearance is from the same period of "Live at Ronnie Scott's", classic concert of Curtis from 1988 and one of my favorites. Sadly two years after he would suffer his tragic accident on stage.
"I'm So Proud" by Curtis when he was with the Impressions is one of the greatest love songs. And don't forget "People Get Ready." Then there's the "Superfly" soundtrack. I don't think he gets the attention he deserves.
I've thought of this song and sing it every day since I first heard it 50 years ago.I catch myself singing it everywhere. I swear to God that's the truth..
It is. The first is in stereo but cuts out near the end. So I edited in a source in mono. The audio worked ok, but the change in the video is pretty obvious.
They back Dave up every night which is why they are called "The Most Dangerous Band in the World' -even more dangerous than Judas Priest who is only 'Breaking the Law'.
@@dongiller WOW. Really? that's fn bad ass man!! Congrats. Must have took SOME TIME to get all that! I've tried to do with with siskel and ebetr and I got every show on the internet. I'd give anything to see the old late 60's early 70's eps that were lost...anywhoo IF,and when ever you could... I would LOVE to see that show. Pls pls pls! lol I've never seen Tim Reid on a talk show (other than the later appearances with Tom Dressan). Thanks. Just one day if you ever have the time. Thank you SO MUCH...BEST youtube channel there is PERIOD.

What a great man. That tragic accident... Makes me cry.
Wonderful song with a great band. Lovely arrangement.

I love everything about this video ❤️
I love that guy. He was always a legend and I respect him even more today. Great video.
I could listen to that for a while.
Ohhhh, so glad to see this again. Thank you, Don!
A poet to a generation !

He was well respected amongst his peers, the horrible accident that crippled him was at a benefit concert while being generous with his time & talent.
It’s aright!

So good!
Damn, I didn't know I needed this today, but I did.
Love Curtis!
I was born on this day.
Legend!
This was the musical genius that truly conceptualized thru his music life in the ghetto !!!###
One of the greats.
Most important message.
Soul groove
Curtis Mayfields Super Fly Soundtrack is so good but his Claudine soundtrack is even better!! A true artist!! RIP
One cool dude....
Thanks as always, Don.
Methinks Dave had a crush on Connie.
I think at that time she may have been married to Dave and the networks, boss.
I love Dave's sly visual joke at the very beginning, of the Flat Earth on a globe mounting
Great video. I love your posts with the WMDB. Is this upload from two different sources?
It is. The first is in stereo but cuts out near the end. So I edited in a source in mono. The audio worked ok, but the change in the video is pretty obvious.
Where did we go wrong along the way…
That's the same band that backed The Proclaimers when they were on Letterman
Same year too I think.
It’s the show’s house band.
