    In case you didn’t notice, a lot of what Jimi Hendrix did was rooted in the style created by Curtis Mayfield.
    Jimi didn’t invent this stuff, Mayfield did.
    John Frusciante and John Mayer copy this stuff all the time.
    What is extremely upsetting to me is Mayfield never gets the credit he deserves.

      Actually, Curtis got a lot of what he did out of the church. What he was playing was typical of church musicians.

      so true man, apparently curtis let jimi be his support act in his early days and showed him all the little tricks like trills and stuff, jimi wrote a couple of songs as an ode to Curtis, one of the songs is called drifting.

    I saw Curtis Mayfield in 1990, he was performing in central park NYC. He was phenomenal. You definitely got the Curtis Mayfield licks down packed. I think I'll listen to some curtis mayfiled right now. I love R&B, Rap, Rock music. I also love Soul Music, the kinda guy like Curtis Mayfield would play.

    Love me some Curtis Mayfield!!...his music literally saved my life & guided me into the joys of being a Musician! So,.. I sing & play just like him! He was influential on my song writing style of that kind of R & B...Very cool of you to have illustrated just how he “Played” his ‘Strats & Telecasters!..not too many have recognized his contributions to Guitar Playing & Singing! ..in the Performing Arts...a style unmistakably him❗️👍🏾✨🎶🎸🥂🍾🤘🏾👨🏾A+!

    That live album you speak of is Curtis Mayfield live at the Bitter End in 1972!! Which is a fantastic live album!! I have it on vinyl! That interlude is from the performance of "We've only just Begun!! Cheers mate!!

    This was a beautiful lesson to listen to, probably because of the thumb. Those little stabs can make you sound like a hero when you are deep into this genre.

      This is an AM200 not sure what the difference is from the 205, but yeah, its an amazing guitar!

    Great Video! One thing that confused me was the thumb position, are you keeping your thumb perpendicular to the strings so you are only using the side edge? it looks that way but I cant get my tele to sound as bright and snappy

      @@TastyGuitarcom it is just whenever I move my finger from a string (left hand, fretboard) it makes quiet sound. I can’t hear this sound in your video. I guess I am just too much of a perfectionist.

      yes, and I mention this is in standard tuning except the last example which is in his open F# tuning

    Great lesson but Curtis isn’t playing the chucks on it’s alright. He’s playing something else under it but it’s barely audible. A lot of his great playing is unmiced or very low in the mix. I’d love another Curtis lesson though.

    Robbie Robertson credits Curtis Mayfield as a great influence, playing fewer notes, but just enough of the right ones.
