This was such a cool watch and you have really good insight on the entire process. I learned a ton and might actually change my workflow a little for future vids. Always interesting to see how other people approach this kind of stuff 🤘🏻
Awesome idea about duplicating the timeline for the vertical video. Definitely going to give that a try. In terms of capture, I have settled on using an external recorder that records a send out of my DAW that's always recording regardless if I'm recording in my DAW or not. I do this because I'm often demoing stuff or showing the process of building a song in my DAW so I can't be recording the process while also recording takes in the project, if that makes sense. I'm also running screen capture software. I'm thinking about using OBS as a central production suite to record everything, but that's a big time learning curve.
It´s a whole lot to figure out when starting out making videos. I´m that "everything live recorded" guy because of the fact that I play something different every time, like you mention with soloing. For me it´s just more time efficent to record the video while writing and recording the song. Due to a two -camera setup, the best thing is getting a full looping session done which I am happy with, only to realize one camera wasn´t recording or totally misfocused. Nothing left to do than just smile at myself and congratulate myself for being an idiot. 😅
Putting your music on the internet is the widest reach you can have when it comes to sharing your music and, increasingly, we treat media consumption as a visual experience so the tools for showing up well on video platforms are super valuable. Also I get a LOT of messages asking for this workflow. Like more than I would have guessed.
@@markjohnstonofficial super valuable and an eye opener as to how much work goes into it. They absolutely go hand in hand in this day and age if you want to reach people. Appreciate the videos this is really helpful content and you do it well.
Which camera and lens do you use? And do you smoothen/soften the videos in post production, if yes then what are those parameters please share here. Cheers mate.

Thanks man, SUPER helpful!
Very helpful, thank you!
Great video and very valuable recommendations. 👍👍👏👏
Another Fantastic video! One thought comes to the forefeont. Quick command or macro your "remove all markers" ❤
I just never need to. I was only doing that to undo work I had previously done for the purposes of this video.
Aaah! Makes sense. Love all your stuff!
This is awesome Mark. Really great to see into your workflow. Loved the instagram/vertical cut tips.
your legend! thx for the auto align! still just 28500 subs? why? cmon lazybums give him a like at least. he seldomly asks for it so he deserves it.

Thanks for these tips! :)
Made a video about making videos about making music. That’s deep.

This is the way
where was this video 2 years ago
It would have been for premiere and sucked
A legitimate pain in the arse
Not nearly as much as it was when I first started.
