@@KingWolfred Yeah I’m not the best at height drops either! And I probably should have clarified, I do have my phone with me, but I am never ON IT when I’m out training. I disconnect as much as possible and just focus on the training.
Personally I like training with one other person. One semi-consistent partner for you to motivate each other and hold each other accountable. I train alone most the time and it's solid, but I just think 1 other person for you to push each other a little and look out for each other is definitely valuable sometimes.
@@lukasbuchelpk Yeah I think there is a fine line of group and solo training a lot of people need to figure out. I am still in that boat, so we will see how things progress as time goes on.
I prefer training alone and its probably because I started alone and been going since 2016. Its hard and lonely but I've learnt a lot about myself than I would in a group. PK isn't very known in Nigeria and its few of us that do it. I finally got the chance to meet fellow freeunners and I realised the benefit of being pushed and encouraged by others. Bottom line is both options are good but it should be more solo than group training. The hardest part for me has been shooting videos alone with just my phone, but I manage and been able to grow my channel! (To create more awareness abt the sport over here😕)
Yeah I have learned to adapt the lines and challenges o do, to suit a single camera static angle. There are a couple other options I’m looking into that would be huge for solo trainers.
I agree with your advice at the end there! I definitely say find people to train with to start, and if you enjoy it, then great! However, when I am in a group setting I rarely feel like I am actually "training", unless I am doing some specific group challenges or conditioning. Generally in a group I jump around between challenges too fast and feel like I'm not putting in enough repetitions. I feel like some of my most productive sessions have been when I am by myself, just drilling movements. That being said, all of the hardest challenges I've done have been with the motivation of other people around! Double edged sword I guess, haha.
100 % Agree it is a double edged sword. I think I just need to find the right group that really challenges me in the way I want. Most of the locals here are more into tricking, and I just dont relate to much to that.
@@Balczak Oh tricking, interesting! Since there isn't really a Parkour community in my city, most of the people I've trained with are from other arts/disciplines/sports. There was a good couple years where I exclusively trained with trickers/bboyers, and I really enjoyed it! I'm usually still up for a solid gym floor or grass session, though at the moment one legged landings are rough on my knee (injury), so some kicks are out of the question, heh. In generally I think it's a great asset to eventually branch out to take inspiration from people specializing in different movement backgrounds instead of just sticking exclusively to traceurs/freerunners! It's fine if you don't relate to it though, definitely not required to enjoy your training! :)
I definitely prefer training in a group. I see what you mean about getting distracted by talking with other athletes but honestly that’s part of the fun to me. It could be just that I’m so extroverted though haha. Also I feel much safer training in a group because getting injured alone could turn really bad really fast.
Yes, and for me depending on the people, I enjoy that aspect too. And I get the training alone and worrying about getting injured. That’s why I am just trying to be smart when I train alone. Not do anything crazy.
I trained alone for a very long time before I moved to UCSD and got involved in the community here (and joined Team Djinn!). It has many benefits, and puts me in a way more focused, zen state than training with other people, but it’s harder to progress without people to give tips or new ideas. I still train alone often, and use it as a time to really solidify my staples, and explore small things that I wouldn’t focus on with a group. I am lucky because I don’t really feel intimidated training alone in public, as some people do. But I definitely have a hard time commuting to scarier challenges on my own.
Yeah I think I just need to find that right group to progress and grow with. Majority of the community Ive connected with are more trickers. So its tough for me to hang out in those sessions because I dont relate to much of it. But for scary challenges, it is definitely easier in groups. The descent in this video, I prolly would have accomplished with a group there. But I just got in my head with that first pre.
95% of my training is alone. And I agree with everything you said. I also tend to do way more jumps when I'm alone. It is scarier to commit to some jumps that way, but when you do, the result can be much more satisfying 😁 In general, I find solo training the best tool for developing technique. Training with friends is better for learning new skills from them, or doing scary things.
I 99% agree with you! I prefer training alone but the first time I trained with a group I realised how complacent I've gotten. So I think I'll mix the two.....
@@stanleyezepk I agree with you both. And I think that is the compromise, you need to be able to work both into your training. Because there is no denying the group mentality when you are with the right group. Pushing yourself past those limits are huge, and having the right people there, helps alot. Its just finding those people you trust in those situations.
Real talk at the end of the vid 👍. I personally like to train alone in basically evrything i do.😂im an introvert. But anyyyywwwaaays, those sticks at 4:40 were clean af🙃

Yeah I think it depends on how you are introduced to the sport. Obviously if you START with a group, training alone will be much tougher, and vice versa.
@@ChasePhillipp Yeah no matter what environment you’re in, there will be challenges. I guess it’s just finding which one you think you prefer and focusing on that training environment. I do think it’s healthy to have both options available in your mind.

Hey! I am glad you found the channel, and I hope you are enjoying the videos. I know that training alone can be scare, but just start small. So I chatted with an officer at the very first spot, but I was way off camera so you couldn’t hear anything. He said “you can’t be doing that. Liability and all.” I said “so are there ways around that? I make videos for TH-cam, if there’s footage of me saying I’m not liable in the video, can I train?” He said “I’m not getting into that with you. You just can’t do it” So it was odd, I literally just wanted to educate myself on what is allowed, and he wouldn’t even discuss it with me.
Sup man? I saw your climb ups and i want to say that if u use more of your lower knee it will need less power to climb up, and helps to clean the move. If you'd like to it would be a pleasure having u watching our videos 😉 we holp we did help u 😄
