I would say that the "Safety vault" is the most useful move of them all for the general public since people do it naturally a lot of the time. Outside of that some other moves that would take a bit longer to learn but would be really useful to get past an obstacle fast or for safety are the speed vault and the parkour roll, the speed vault is self explanitory on how it would be useful in everyday life, imo it could be replaced with the chest vault in the video but it does require you to be more fit and train it a bit longer but worth it if you're already relatively fit and healthy. And as for the parkour roll, say you're running and trip on something, what's the best way to save yourself? Land with your face or break your wrist or arms trying to land on them, or to go into a roll and keep running afterwards. Or if you ever fall from or need to jump down from a more than comfortable height which would be rare but better safe than sorry. And for the last move being able to do a wall climb up could also be really useful, not even the one with perfect form and smooth and pretty, but just being able to pull yourself up onto a wall.
Totally with you on the safety vault, I do use it in everyday from time to time. The roll is also a move I wish everybody could do to keep one safe, but thankfully it’s so rare I use it (outside of Parkour) I can’t even think of the last time.
@@TheJasonPaul 100% the roll isn't a daily thing like the safety vault, but i'm so glad i know it for that 1% chance that i might need it to save myself. But if we're talking outside of daily life it's also a great move for any athlete from any sport to know for safety reason, weather they play football or are a gymnast or any other sport where falls are common.
I agree with the Parkour roll usefulness, landing correctly and falling/rolling is definitely useful and a skill everyone should learn in childhood, like swimming. War story: A couple months back while training for a 5km run my feet got lazy on the last 1km and I tripped on a raised sidewalk slab. However, I instantly went into a Pk roll and back into running as one fluid motion without any time wasted. When I'm a certified running coach I will teach it to runners for that exact reason. That said, the main practical techniques/skills for everyday life someone should be able to learn relatively easily on their own. Ukemi, ie landing/breakfalls/rolls, should be taught by a certified/experienced coach/instructor. As learning it wrong can cause an acute injury or longterm damage; especially if being done incorrectly or forming bad habits and that is never corrected with cues and proper instruction, IMO.
@@HeartlessKnave yeap, happy you didn't get injured during your run and could save yourself, it would be great if coaches from different disciplines would learn and teach the roll to their students for injury prevention like you're planning to do.
The main one I use (here in the UK where the weather is shocking a fair chunk of the time) is a running stride over the mammoth sized puddles that build up outside our train stations... Jealous commuters and fascinated children clap in unison!
Love this. It's cool to picture a future where simple parkour like this is just as common as riding a bike - just something standard people learn to safely and efficiently get from A to B. Good on you guys for make it so accessible.
That was the origin of parkour as an focused discipline, and to a certain degree it's precedessor Méthod Naturelle. Moving efficiently from point A to B. Tricking is heavily associated with parkour, especially with the parkour/freerunning divide dissolving - doesn't mean that's all there is to parkour, or even significant portion.
@@tappajaav Right right! Yeah, I've always loved that notion of efficiently moving between points, but figured it required advanced fitness and technique. It's super cool to see that there are even entry level moves like this that are genuinely useful.
I personally prefer the lazy vault over the chest vault. For me it is way more effortless and i think its more stylish too. But thats just a personal preference
The gate vault is goat. You can do it with a backpack! And also it works even with a huge drop in front, you can easily chain it into a cat hang. Great stuff

I'd put roll in there. It has kept me safe in many falls. I was riding my skateboard on day and it got stuck on something flying me forward. Reflexively I did a shoulder roll and immedietly got up in less than a second and ran after my board. It's also useful in sports like football where you might lose your balance from a hit. I would also recommend after learning shoulder roll, you learn dive roll as well since you might not always have the luxury to land on your legs (I didn't when I fell off my skateboard and it was a dive roll that saved me)
I remember when i tried dive roll. Did it few times but one time insted of rolling on my back I supported too much of my hands and landed straight on my lower back, it was preatty painful for 10 days
Excellent! If you can think of a few more or even slightly more advanced I'd love to see them. I've always wondered what cool practical lessons can come from such an extraordinary art. Thank you!
There is another way to climb the tree and get on top of a single branch. Its kinda hard to explain but i usually just put one foot on the trunk and use it to push off. You might get a bit dirty but it gets the job done.
I use three of these on a regular basis, although I didn't know their names! Thanks for your videos, they're lighting a spark of inspiration for incorporating more versatile and functional movement skills to my everyday life! 🔥
I think the video was good, but what i really came to the comments to say was that your thumbnail is epic. It is very beautiful, high quality, and just aesthetically pleasing lol. Great work
I've always referred to the chest vault as the 360 vault, anyways that was the first vault I ever learned and all of these have been very practical for me aswell! The MOST practical vault of all time for me has been the lazy vault! It carries momentum so well and if it's chest height, you can basically come at it straight on. If it's shoulder height I just chuck a safety. Ill have to learn that last one! Very handy
For the first one, I just do the second one. I can fall, I've got legs, I can do a Project Hel and use my legs as springs for falling "Say you wanna climb a tree" is much easier, just get your legs on the top and use the tree itself to push your body to above
I just wanna say that the thumbnail and title makes it look like one of the 4 most practical moves in parkour (that everyone should know) is how to stop a train with a flying kick
I just learned chest vault and sit vault after watching this video these moves were actually pretty easy but gate vault and pullover will take some time love you Jason Paul ❤
I agree this is fun to do i use them when i need , and you can use strong rope with curved knife , throwthat end on roof and run on walls you have support from it , and pull it back to you , plus you can jump on fance and jump off to push youreself to jump longer . I tried it works tho , deppends when . Try not to injure youre self fellas !
I don‘t know anything about parkour but I usually have different equally as fast ways to go about these situations (although some may be slightly more risky)
Gate vault seems more about looking cool than efficiently going over an object, but perhaps I'm just biased since I mostly speedvault over objects up to my waist height
Sit vault is the best if you can do it cause you can use it in social situations or like at a restaurant or something and nobody bats an eye whereas other stuff might seem too attention-seeking or dangerous
I know all of these moves, and they were not too difficult to learn, just needed to have them explained and practise them a bit... with where I'm at in my journey, and parkour not being my main thing, the gate vault and pullover are like my "impressive power moves" along with the one handed cartwheel. :p It's all just where we're at... hadn't thought to use the sit vault like that... I'd typically thow the bag over the wall and then vault over, or worse yet, walk around :D :D This video is probably more something I'd want, but I wear my backpack so often and it's a huge hinderance when I'm going from A to B and wanna just causally try some parkour, cuz I feel i have to stop and take it off... are there any moves well suited for wearing a backpack? Not super heavy nor super light? Or any adjustments you need to be mindful off... like a common scenario is I walk in the woods with my son, I've got his lunchpack, changing clothes, water bottle, keys etc in my backpack... we pass by a fallen tree or something and I wanna vault over or something for the fun and to inspire him, without him having to wait for me to take off my backpack and stop :D
