It is still one of the performances that has given me most emotionally by any artist at any given time in history. She is purely a genius! You should also listen to the way she ads color to the lyric. She paints with brighter and darker coloring when she sings "from major to minor." Or that she uses intentionally a lot of breath when she sings "air of spring about it" Reminiscent of a warm spring breeze. It is also worth mentioning that this was her last performance in Norway before she moved to the U.S. So it is a bittersweet farewell to her home country that she loves a lot. Her love for her home country has been expressed in many interviews. So the song is a perfect fit for her in this situation!

Valerie, what can we say? I actually start to tear up when I begin typing a comment about her. I am in complete awe when I hear her, see her, and even think about her. Obsession? Of course. Is it healthy? Well, the warmth that she generates in my heart cannot be described. And, the smile I show off whenever I think of her is magical. In this crazy world right now isn't it wonderful to enjoy someone who makes you feel fantastic. Valerie, thanks again for a fabulous reaction.
She’s 10 here. My understanding is that she sang this on the open air rooftop of this building as her way to say “Goodbye” to her home, Oslo, before leaving for the USA. It was also a live TV program over there.
This performance was sent live at TV2 in Norway, no retake, no second chances, she just go up there and performs it to perfection. Like she always does. She goes up on stage, and deliver a performance even stars may need a studio or some takes to do this well. It is just mind blowing. And she was only 10 years old here. Thank you, Valerie 👍
@@brucecumming8803 And just to mention that, two small hours later, she was boarding their plane from Norway to USA. She just popped up to sing a song first.. No biggie..
I can hear a little Ella Fitzgerald in her voice on this song. Please keep reacting to her. Would love you to react to How Great Thou Art. Angelina was 12 and singing in her lower register.

Norway’s good morning show she singing every time I say goodbye it’s kind of sad for her because she’s leaving for America first thing to stay and she’s not happy about leaving Oslo but it’s for her best interest she knows that so she sings this little bit more passion in my opinion Valerie I really love you I think you’re a great person and I love your reactions I think the Lord for giving Angelina God gave her this a gift from heaven he made her the sang to bring love and peace to this world she said her time to I come to saying for the 🌎 word
This performance really highlights one of the many things I love about her singing. She NEVER rushes. Every line, every note is its own beautiful masterpiece she gives to us.
I'm totally obsessed by this performance from Angelina for all the reasons you perfectly explained. Technique, integrity, musicality, facial expressions, commitment with the genre and the lyrics. Everything! And, even when she was this young and even younger, she was a great storyteller that takes one in an adventure with every song ♥
Thank you for your insightful reactions. I don't know if you like Adele but Angelina's performance of When We were Young, live in concert, is wonderful with her soulful style.
Oso Wallman She should, went to school on Ella and you can hear the Ella influences. Ella was special even during a time when that way of singing was the norm. But Angelina’s ability to understand the nuances of Ella and reproduce them at the age of 7 and 8 just shows how deep Angelina’s talent goes. There are many singers today that never learn what Angelina learned at 7.
I have been waiting since your first angelina video for you to react to this one! This is one of my all time favorites. If I had to define perfection in singing, I think it would have to be this video. It is just so smoothly delivered. I always like all the technical info you give us about what angelina is doing. I think in the end there is just some bit of magic that she has that can't be explained, but it is always fun to learn about some of the techniques she uses to make us feel the song she has playing in her head.
Thats wy we called her the new Queen of Jazz 🤗🥰🌞thanks for your new reaction Maybe you can next react to her Live-Performance cry me a river from 2017 where she sings a wonderful jazzy duett with a trombone
Two things: The most impressive thing to me is Angelina's ear------------she hears the lyrics but she also hears the notes. She hears the styles of every singer. Listen to the way she did Summertime and the different way she sang Gloomy Sunday. I don't know who she heard doing Summertime but Sunday was definitely influenced by Billie and this song by Ella... Also, she has perfected the art of singing behind the beat--at times waaaay behind the beat as the old Jazz greats did.
Angelina is 10 here. Steps up to the mike, delivers perfection in one take. No editing, No auto tune, just her remarkable voice singing this wonderful Cole Porter (1935) song. This is in my Top 5 of Angelina's performances. I never tire of hearing her sing this song. So simple, yet not---the nuances are everywhere. You mentioned how she is influenced by Ella. Here's a great mash up by pa1189j of AJ and Ella performing this song. th-cam.com/video/U_uSOa7uM8k/w-d-xo.html She doesn't have the polish of Ella, but in some ways, I prefer Angelina's version. The audio on this mash up is excellent. Hope you enjoy it. Maybe it's something you can use to allow your students to see how it can be done. As always, thanks for a great reaction to vakker barfot prinsessen. 😊💕
So glad you mentioned Ella whom, of course, Angelina is deeply channeling here. So glad, too, that Angelina has listened so closely and lovingly to Billie, Sarah, Ella, Dinah, and such among the divinely timeless. And no wonder she's still ripening into the so very,, very fine singer she is yet to be. So wise of her, and so sensitively nuanced her ear, to have chosen their heritage for her own. My god, can you imagine her at twenty? And what treats in store?
Angelina had been listening to those mentioned from infancy thanks to her Grandmother’s love of Jazz. Angelina age two through three scrolled through TH-cam hunting for Jazz artists. At four going on five you can see her in vintage record shop looking for Jazz records. Carrying Frank Sinatra and setting down and playing piano. She has constantly immersed herself in jazz and stated at three she wanted to sing for Simon Cowell.
Love your professional insight, and I'd suggest that what Angelina does is beyond interpreting from her own perspective. Her empathetic character allows her to 'become' the person that wrote the lyrics and feel what they felt and sing from their perspective.
Frank Sinatra once said that before he recorded a song he wanted to read the lyrics to understand what the writer was saying and then interpret that story
So nice to see you again, Valerie. Angelina and her fans need from time to time the analyzing "approval" from vocal coaches, singers/songwriters and other musicians. Its a step forward in her career, because it widens her fan base. Thank you for a wonderful reaction, I really enjoyed this. Hope you will do more reactions of Angelina. Stay safe 👍

Angelina eats tricky for breakfast. My favorite singer possibly close to lunch time ready to take over another song. And so humble a young lady to boot. Thanks for your time and reaction. Thumbs up
Another Masterclass reaction and analysis from the teacher. I most enjoy your explanation of the jazz influence on Angelina's musicality. Thank you very much and I look forward to hearing more from you.
Glad you came back to Angelina. Thanks for that lovely reaction. Yes her phrasing is a big thing for sure. And you can hear all those artists she covered in her songs. I see you didn't react to "Song for A" yet. I think you'll love it: th-cam.com/video/Bo3mhxPM-uA/w-d-xo.html It's a lovely warm love ballad, beautiful orchestra backing. Really gorgeous. Nico Cartozio wrote it for her to include it as last track wrapping up his instrumental album.
Yves Harms I 5th that! It really is a beautiful composition. Angelina knocks it out of the park with this one. It sounds like it came from a movie decades ago.
So great every time one of your reactions to Angelina pops up. Thanks to Angelina this has become one of my favorits as well. In my mind this is a masterpiece. It is stunning that this 10 year old even get the deeper contents of that "major to minor" sequense, and execute it so mindblowing well. In this her voice always remind me of the greate Vera Lynn singing "We`ll meet again" on the radio in my yngest years. It must be something in her voice and the way she deliver this song I guess. Anyway thanks for yet another very nice reaction to our vocalist phenomenon, who spent her childhood jaming around with Ella, Etta, Billie, Frank, Louis . . . . And by the way, she was about to go catch her fligt to the US right after she visited TV 2 for this performance. Not bad to be abel to have the calm and consentration to deliver such a performance, 10 year old.
Her genius is her ability to reveal the beauty inherent in a masterpiece of songwriting like this song by Cole Porter. I think those smiles she gives when singing come from the way she knows that she's singing a masterpiece and if she just let's that come through in her performance it will be perfect. It's a shame that most of the artists she covers are no longer with us because I think people like Cole Porter would be happy with the way Angelina let's their songs shine. They say great minds think alike and I can't help but think that Ella and Porter would see the genius in her singing if they were here.
I'm so glad to see you safe and reacting to our Angel once more..I thought you'd forgotten her..take care and stay safe ))..of course she's saying goodbye to her home..hugely moving for her..see her own song Oslo..have you reacted to her version of "Wicked Game"? To me it's both haunting and hugely emotional..it often brings me to tears.. th-cam.com/video/5IAMF4FDfw4/w-d-xo.html
Hi Valerie! Lately I've been listening a lot to Song for A and La Boheme - this critique is like Beauty reacting to Beauty - you and Angie both have the inner and outer beauty and the brainy kind heart vibration - I always get excited when I see you have reacted to another Angie song - thank you very much!
Valerie welcome back and thanks for another fantastic reaction and the instructive analysis of the talent of this little prodigy, for this emotional interpretation. I particularly loved this song, but this Angelina cover really made me move, with the panorama seen from above, with the skyline behind her, a good guitarist next to her and the floating voice carried by the wind over the city, to cheer up anyone who can listen, with a tone and softness that competes with the version of Ella. Beautiful beyond all possibilities, together with her smile just hinted, I love this little girl ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Thank you so much for picking up Angelina again. It's been a while since your last reaction. We've missed you. Nice reaction, as all of yours. I couldn't find your reactions to her performances on Norway got talent: Gloomy Sunday, Bang bang, Summertime. Another amazing interpretations are I am still holding out for you (11 years old) , The difference a day makes, Fly me to the moon, I'll be there, and At last (8 y.o.)
Thank you Valerie,I always learn from and appreciate your insightful reactions."Big ears" indeed,we can see this in many of Angelina's videos, she turns slightly to hear an instumentalist, sometimes slightly frustrated if the sound is off.I am always struck by how aware and focussed she is at all times.Perhaps that is a strong contributor to her presence onstage.
Love your analysis and perception . This is a beautiful song sung by the consummate performer, Angelina Jordan. Her confidence and total control of the stage are out of this world. A wonder for us to enjoy! You have some links below. Any of them works for me. I've enjoyed every Angelina song I have listened to. There probably are 40 or 50 that I listen to more often...this is one of them.
One of the most impressive things about this performance is how she completely abandoned her usual style of singing, and yet it sounds completely natural, as if this is how she always sings. In most of her earlier performances (and later ones, as well), she used a lot of vocal fry, a la Billie Holiday, and back-of-the-throat singing (a.k.a., "Kermit voice"), a la Dinah Washington. (Her rendition of "What a Difference a Day Makes" at 8 th-cam.com/video/ZSfgCIGd7k4/w-d-xo.html is mind-blowing.) Even when she covered Ella Fitzgerald's version of "Summrtime" (using her and Louis Armstrong's 1959 musical arrangement) in the finals of _Norske Talenter_ [Norway's Got Talent] th-cam.com/video/nsBfBuc9d9I/w-d-xo.html she sang it more like Dinah, with a crazy amount of resonance in the "ah" vowels and diphthongs ("summerTIME", "cotton is HIGH", "your MA is good lookin'", etc.). Here she's covering another Ella song, and this time she adheres very closely to Ella's singing style (no vocal fry, and no "Kermit" at all on "TIME", "goodBYE", etc.). And, as you pointed out, her phrasing on "I cry a little", "spring about it", and especially the final elongated "everytiiiiime we saaaaay goodbyyyyye" is pretty much directly "quoting" Ella. As for all the smiling she's doing, I have to admit, that's so "out of character" for her, I find it a little creepy. [LOL!]
I think this is a masterclass she does not rush really let's the words breathe out that's amazing for a 10 yr old girl.
Angelina made a statement that when she close her eyes and she goes to the magic place that’s where she gets her music!
One of her best. She is from another time.
This is what we called Professional's reaction.. We learn something.. Not just usual face reaction.. Just like u said, She have integrity in her singing style, u too have integrity in your reaction.
It would be SO great to have a stereo tap into what she is playing in her head when she sings.
First class review of this performance.
It's like she absorbs the song into her soul and heart and then releases it in song.
This is her best performance, even though it is not without flaws. And it is one of my favorite performances by any artists ever. And she was 10 years old at the time. 10 YEARS OLD! I am always honest with my reactions, and I receive a lot of hate because of that, but she blows all other child artists out of the water. And even most adult artists as well. What she is doing her is beyond incredible. Even though she has some small mispronunciations of God, or that her vibrato becomes a bit unstable because of lack of breath (Freddie Mercury had that problem all the time).

Great reaction !
Next step, it's a man's world ( Live Version ) 👍.
Btw. she also has some own songs here 😉.

Thank you so much to react Angelina again!!! LOVE IT!!!! She is so amazing 👏🏻👏🏻💕
Hi Valerie! Lately I've been listening a lot to Song for A and La Boheme - this critique is like Beauty reacting to Beauty - you and Angie both have the inner and outer beauty and the brainy kind heart vibration - I always get excited when I see you have reacted to another Angie song - thank you very much!
Great analysis! Amazing AJ❤!
Beautiful rendition . mem0rial voice like a Sarah Vaughn , and Ella .
An amazing performance by an even more amazing young lady.
I Love this preformance.
Its so beutiful.

Nice reaction. Try AJ singing "I Will always love you".
Wow. I super love this song from her and I love your channel too.
What a great reaction. We all love the way she interprets the songs she chooses to sing.
👩🏻🎤🎵🌎⭐️🇳🇴❤️ A heavenly performance by a real angel.
Love 💕 your reactions, not usually a fan of “voice coaches” but love your personal insights and technical analysis. 👌🏻
Thank you so much!
Thank you for this often overlooked classic. The scene, the song, the songstress, totally enchanting.
Such a beautiful song but a beautiful singer singing it !!! Very classic
I love this song. I'm so happy you reacted to Angelina's cover! I learn a lot from your comments. Thanks!
[LOL!]
