  • So, it has officially been a year of me being an ICU nurse! It has been one heck of a journey. I have had my ups and downs, my highs and lows, but it is safe to say that I survived a whole year in the hardest ICU at my hospital. I have definitely seen a lot of growth and maturity in me but ill save the details for the video haha. In this video, I share my thoughts so far and give some pieces of advice for whoever is interested in being an ICU nurse! Hope you enjoy!

    Sorry if this is personal but how dod u get kicked put of the nursing program? Hows ICU for u now?

    • @michofalltrades
      @michofalltrades  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      in nursing school, we were only allowed to get a C grade or below 2 times in the 4 year program. on the third time, we get kicked out the program. So, there was one semester that i had gotten a low grade in 2 classes, and then the next time was my last straw.

      asking questions! dont be afraid to ask questions!!! Also, you have to do your fair share of studying and reviewing the new drugs, treatments and diagnoses that you might find in the ICU that you may have not seen before!

      @@michofalltrades This is true! Jennifer, you have to spend a lot of time watching TH-cam videos and studying outside of working, this will build confidence. Also subscribe to RN podcasts that's related to your field.

    What is a safe patient ratio for a new nurse in ICU?

    • @michofalltrades
      @michofalltrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Hey! a safe ratio is 1:1 or 1:2. anything more than that is unsafe.

      @@michofalltrades thank you! These hospitals be trying to get new grads. Where I'm at they are wanting to do 1:4

    • @michofalltrades
      @michofalltrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@stywoke5241this is most likely because of the staffing issues nationwide . But regardless , 1:4 ratio is not a safe ratio for ICU care
