- Dr. Doug Willen, The Animal Cracker, shares a 9 day journey that brings Neo, a 16 year old cat, from unable to walk to walking and more!!
Neo, a 16 year old cat, injured himself, and was hunched up with crippling pain. He couldn't walk more than a couple of steps without falling down. Always "young" and agile even at 16 years old. He easily could jump on the kitchen counter every day. Melissa, the owner wasn't sure what happened, although she guesses that he may have hurt himself jumping off of the counter.
Melissa (owner) , a patient of Dr. Willen, called him up and asked him to help. In this video, Dr. Doug Willen, NYC Chiropractor, documents 9 days of Neo's recovery. He performs two chiropractic adjustments in its entirety.

My cat would have put up with exactly 2 seconds
Mine is that chill to. Even at the vet with injections🤪
No1 puss would have a little struggle, then generally give in. No2 has been taught not to bite or claw and would probably follow the 'sack of potatoes' 'I'm not helping' deal. Then scarper at the first opportunity. Mums cat would have required an short eye to eye, a low voice and reading of the riot act first. Any hesitation or show of weakness from the doc would result in claws / disney Taz!

I remember taking a couple kittens from a feral cat and I wanted to keep them mostly contained in one room. Which inexperienced me thought wouldn't be too difficult. So I'm in the room playing with them, then I leave and close the door.
Next thing I know, there's a kitten rubbing against my foot. Turns out, that little gap underneath doors is nothing for even an adult cat, let alone a kitten!
Then I tried stuffing towels under the door. Those were easily pushed through and on an exploration trip the kittens went! Then I put a small tool box to barricade the exit. I'm watching a movie in the living room and I hear a cat start screaming! I went over and found the girl wedged in between the frame and the toolbox. Obviously, the toolbox went back into the garage because I realized it's too dangerous.
Finally, I took the door completely off, cut a thin strip of wood, nailed it to the bottom of the door, put the door back, and that kept them in the room.
Also, just to clarify, 90+% of my time was spent with the kittens. The only time I would really leave them alone was for short breaks from their constant meowing and climbing on me. Both things I loved but moderation is the secret to life.... 😜 I don't want anyone thinking I would lock them in a room and never be in there.
The REAL fun part was when the food bowl was empty at night and they would get RIGHT next to my face and SCREAM until I woke up and refilled it. Because how dare I let the food bowl be empty!!!!
Anyway, yes, absolute experts at escape!!!

Some reason makes me think it’s because he’s a rescued cat which means he probably has come to grips with the fact that they are not trying to hurt you, only trying to fix you and most animals do realise that after being rescued and rehabilitated of course

I have no idea why I clicked on this, but I’m fascinated. I’ve never heard of a veterinary chiropractor.
Because luckily these hacks are rare. Most people who want to help animals bother to do it responsibly, with evidence based medicine, instead of by voodoo like this guy.
I started seeing a chiropractor after a car accident and she was great. She cured my fear of quacks by not being one! The whole office was great. I'm so grateful. I ended up working for the next one because my vision cleared immediately after the first adjustment. And lastly, I have had that happen with adjustments more often than not!

Stringing together anatomical terms into a sentence has nothing to do with the truth of the sentence. This guy isn't as violent as real scumbags like Joe Cipriano; instead, looking at his videos, he's doing the usual massage/pop a joint or two, and make people feel like they have been taken care of.

In human years, Neo would be about 81. Wish I could jump like that in my 70s. Instead I suffer from Hereafter Disease: a condition where I walk into a room and say “what the hell did I come in here after?”😙

cats are majestic. the way the cat holds position and his own alignment during this treatment was impressive and shows how much pain the cat was in to allow it. cats are so smart they know when you wanna help them

That was amazing! Over 49 years we have had many cats live to their late teens. Our Vet told us to hold them under their armpits and swing them forward after they stretched out. They seem to always enjoy this. Presently the oldest is eighteen and he is running and jumping going strong! Thank you for this wonderful information! 👍🐱💜
You can see the look of shock and relief in Neo's eyes when the Dr made the first few adjustments. You can tell he feels so much better!

Neo was a GREAT patient. As a cat lover I derived a lot of good feelings and understanding of Dr. Doug’s technique better than any other video I’ve seen of his chiropractic work on animals. Neo was so cooperative. I don’t know if my cat (RIP) would have allowed so much touching and manipulating. Good work a Doc.

Hey Doc, I had a cat that went out of a 9th floor apartment window chasing a pigeon. The only thing that saved his life was that he wouldn't retract his claws from the screen and that he then kind of glided onto a juniper bush. I went flying down the stairs with a blanket, and yelling at my husband to get the car. When I got to the ground floor and outside, I was able to wrap him up very tightly in the towel I had brought down. By then my husband had the car around and off to the vet we went. All he had wrong with him was a broken radius that required a cast, and I told the vet, hey, while you have him under.. NEUTER!! LOL No internal injuries at all. And I think it was because of the screen and where he landed. 3 days later a common brown bat got into our apartment. He cornered it in the bathroom and beat it with his cast. Needless to say, the bat didn't make it. I had to return to the vet and get a cast change because of this. The 2 cats I have now would be exactly like Neo. To a point, because 1 is the one who decided he wanted to try flying. I *socialized* them both when they were kittens and well into adulthood. LOL Have a great week and Stay Safe!! From a new friend? @@AnimalCrackerDrDougWillen There's no reliable formula like there is for dogs. The scientists estimate that the first 2 yrs of a cat's life are roughly equal to the first 25 of a humans. After this, each additional year is another 4 yrs. So Neo is a very old man. Can you say, YODA? I knew you could!!! 💖 💖 💖

I handled my three Abyssinians from kittenhood in every way. At the vet, they would stand by themselves on the examination table, and let the vet give them a shot without anyone holding them. They were incredibly trusting because I never gave them reasons to distrust. Also very sociable. So cats can be just like Neo if they are treated right and trust the humans around them. So glad you were able to help Neo. You’re what I call a real humanitarian. And Melissa, what a great job you did with him.
I am chuckling about Neos evasive tactics at the end. I do all the movements with my cat just so they are used to me handling every part of their body. That way it is easier for the vet and my cats for their appts. One of the main places cat carry tension is between their shoulder blades. The closer they are the more tension they have. When you massage the tension out it relaxes your cat a lot. I also do all these things with my dogs. My vet loves me for it. Love your videos!

That is awesome. I didn't know that cats carry tension between their shoulder blades. I have been massaging my cat's neck and shoulders and he LOVES it. Now when he jumps into my lap, he will tilt his chin up and to one side, to expose his neck for massaging the first side. When he has had enough on one side, he tilt his chin to the other side. 😻

I do range of motion exercises and massage for my dogs too! And like yours, my vet LOVES that I do it. Rarely have I ever had to bring my kids in for any type of injury because of these daily rituals.

Once Neo realized what the Doctor was doing he actually looked like he understood the concept. He gets touched by his new friend and he feels better , he can jump and he can hear! Neo seems to understand!

This little man is just precious! Does he know he’s a cat? We have had many cats over the years and I have been made bloody so many times, just by taking them to the vet. I’ve had cat scratch fever twice. And they were very sweet little ones too. Neo is unique and gorgeous. Thanks for getting his kinks out.

Some cats are just real mellow at the vet's. My avatar, Louie, is a 15 year old male and everyone who's worked with him (vets, groomers, sitters) has remarked about how cooperative he is.
It's probably part of how lovable he is around people.
But around other cats? Well, that's a different story altogether.
That cat trusts his owner so much, every time he starts getting uncomfortable he looks to her and as long as she is still calm he stays still.

Having been owned by many cats over the years, I’m amazed that Neo would hold so still for this treatment! Cats have evolved to not show pain or weakness, so poor Neo must’ve been in terrible pain to show such disability. So many people think cats don't recognize their names. I have 16 and they all know their names .
That's the most well behaved cat I've ever seen. No hissing or scratching. Our Nejma already hisses when you point at her feet. Scratches behind the ears are ok, all else is off limits. (she was even growling in her sleep when the vet sedated her to treat her)
I have never heard of chiropractic adjustments aiding in recovery of the senses but it makes sense, especially after hearing the way you explained it. It's all connected! Now I'm starting to wonder if my loss of taste and smell went away when I started doing hard labor a couple years back because now that I think about it the loss of the senses and my back pain started around the same time.

Pardon the pun, but animals are a good judge of horse flesh and know who's there to help them. Neo was so afraid the first time (look at those pupils, poor baby!), but desperate for help and willing to trust. He was much more relaxed the second time. Good on you, Doc, you are a saint!
