Had mine for just 2 weeks now as a replacement for a 2012 990 Adventure with 260mm travel and full Rottweiler kit. The 890 AdvR is just a wicked bike and will walk all over the 990 without killing you to do it. 2nd gear it'll pop the front end way up with no clutch and in 3rd with the clutch. It is way more stable at speed and easier to manage all around.
@KTMARV 1 1090 is pretty awesome. If you want offroad agility...890. If want a better balance for longer tours and still have a wicked offroad machine, then still hard to beat the 1090?
Two weeks ago I bought 890 Adventure (not R). The bike is awesome, stable on road, punchy engine with so much power in every rpm, Avon Trailrider tires stick like a glue on tarmac. No problem going on dirtroads or some light (dry, not muddy) terrain. Bought it after selling R 1150 GS, totally worth.
@KTMARV 1 The 890 feels lighter than it is. It is easier to manage a pillion getting on/off than the 990 and to balance and push around. It's also noticeably easier to pick up, which my back appreciates. The 990 was top heavy. Once it started to go over there was no stopping it. The 890 is not like that....feels kind of like one of those kids cups that wants to stay upright.
Nice quick vid, I own a 790 adventure and am currently riding an on loan 890. Its got everything I Love about the 790, but with more. Fantastic all around machine
Spent an afternoon recently with the 790 Adventure R. What a blast!! The one I tried had a quick shifter, heated seat and grips. Bliss. Can't wait to test an 890. May even trade in the old Dominator.....
I've had the S version for over a year. 10 years ago it would have been the best all around ADV bike, hands down. The R version is just that much better, but it hasn't stopped me from doing far more than "Green Laning" the 890 Adventure S.
Why the "R" ?? a "Ready to Race" bike is for "Ready to Race" guys... at 71 years I want to enjoy "adventures" not race, so being both bikes the same except for travel suspension, I go with the base 890 Adventure, for my type of riding (every thing except for extreme) the Adventure is more than enough....
I have been going back and forth with the 890 or the 890R. Im a newer rider and think the 890 with be plenty for what I need. 70% road and 30 % off road but not extreme of road. Thoughts. Im 66 years old..
@@colinm2056 Fantastic place. I did a 3 day off road course there last August. Was lucky enough to be able to go between the lockdowns. It's huge. training staff there are brilliant as well.
Thank you very much. A bit disappointed this time by the video. Although the quality of the footage is great I expected to get more in depth review and understanding of the key differences between both models.
I'm looking for my first KTM Adventure bike, I'm in Canada. I've found a 2018 1090 for sale that's got 8'500km (has a few extras on it) on it for $13'500 or should I get the 2021 890 Adventure R for $15'100 brand new? The 1090 is 3'000km away and would have to be shipped :(
In used bikes you need to see the bike, not the model. If the bike (or car) is in good state is up to you. You will loose money buying a new bike but it is a warranty. Buying used is a risk, specially these bikes which have a though life. Positive part is that you can get a nice bargain if the bike is good.
Why assume the 890 is going to be significantly heavier than the 690? Granted it’s bigger, but the 690 has basically been around for donkey’s yonks. The 890 also makes up for a lot of the 690’s shortcomings.
@@visordown I'm not assuming these so called light adventure bikes weights like 200kgs that is without cargo. While ktm enduro 690 and husqvarna 701 enduro just weights under 150kgs i mean they are in dual sport form but adding a adv fairings won't add that much weight.
Definitely would go for the R, well worth the extra cash. Nice versatile weekend blaster.

@KTMARV 1 Yes you can. If you get the 'Tech' pack you can choose rally mode also. You can turn TC on/off and ABS to off road. Cruise is also nice.

Good choice!
Loving my 890r, best bike I've owned!
Hey, i would love to know if you recommend a 890 adventure. Want to pick one today
Just rode one today, so mutch torque! It pulls so hard from any gear, great job KTM.
Was that a full motorbike review? didn't really actually say much about it!..

Have they sorted out the inlet cam problem yet? Cams lose 4mm of steel in 15k miles. Is that acceptable in 2024?

Excellent bikes, i would seriously love to get the R! Nice video. I'm still trying to come to grips with the name of the place!
What, Wales?
@@visordown No 😁, the sweetlamb bit!

What Mitas tires?? I’m guessing E10s.
Quick change hubs?
The good thing about off ride riding you don't have to worry about being on the right side of the road

Dream bike; however I don’t have a service department within easy distance to fix all the crap that will go wrong with it.
Crap ? Whats your take then

Another epic bajaj epic fail to follow the 790 fiasco... ready to fail ...
I think you should mention all the reliability issues the 790 has not just be KTM muppets...😝😁🤣
