I am glad you were astute enough to call him out, and don't take this the wrong way because it isn't meant to belittle you. But that fact that you still bought from them after catching them trying to steal from you is why they remain in business. In life you should never do business with a company that tries to take advantage of you. No exceptions.
And thank you for your service to this great country! You deserved better from them. Shame on Camping World.

I promise, just about any RV or car dealership will add stuff to your deal, if you don't look carefully. At that point you can decline the deal, or get it back down to the advertised price.
We were also buying in mid-2022. Just about every dealership was out of RVs, especially the less expensive models.

Yes. I got ripped off about two years ago. The lady in the finance department tried to tell me that the only way I could get financing would be to get the "protection plans" and Good Sam. I had never bought a camper before, and yes they attached an additional $6000 to $7000. I wanted to purchase the trailer a few years before retirement. Yes, I made a mistake, but if my mistake can be a cautionary story for somebody else, then so be it.

Just picked up my Jayco 183RB from Campers world, Kingston NY. I made it clear from the start that this was not my first TT and that all I wanted was the rig itself with none of the accoutrements. When I went to pick it up, it took all of an hour to do a quick walkthrough and sign the paperwork, easy peezy, great experience with absolutely no hassle or high pressure add on nonsense.

A lot of good information on your video. I work as a finance manager at a car dealer and we offer vehicle service contracts, paint, protection, etc. I’ve never once told the customer they are mandatory that they have to get it and the lender requires it. That’s actually illegal. only Only thing I’ll correct you on is gap insurance. I 100% recommend gap insurance if you’re financing more than 80% that means if you’re not putting at least 20% down after taxes.

Thanks so much for your video. I was watching CW video ads because I am 71 and seriously contemplating buying an RV to live in because I own my rural NC acre of land and already have septic tank, electric, and county water. I don't need a big home nor A big monthly mortgage payment. TMI, I know but I am old now.😉 CW is advertising an RV that would suit my needs. I would have been going to Greenville, NC, to "shop" and my camping/boating experienced male relative will be taking me so he can inspect whatever we decide upon. He will make sure I am not taken advantage of. Even so, after watching your video, I will not be doing business with CW because of their shady business practices and the complaints I am reading about their poor after-sale service practices. Thank you for your military service.

There is a difference between Camping world dealerships around the US. Add on's after the sale are standard practice in the automotive industry as well. The best way I found is before the sale is concluded is you meet with the finance manager and discuss what they offer along with getting the literature of coverage. From there you can either say yes or no to any adds. This is an important step with any purchase. I did purchase an RV from Campers world and using this method I was able to cherry pick the additional items I wanted. You are correct these add are a bonus for the finance manager which is their incentive to sale. Do not be duped into taking all but there are some protections which are nice for the peace of mind if you are so inclined to need. It is up to you the consumer to complete due diligence throughout your purchase. If you feel like it is a scam or a hard sell is best to walk to another dealership there are many out there.

Spot on. We did the same with a 2024 model, some items I wanted some I didn't. This case in California and I said no thanks and they took it off. Even after the fact they found a way to lower my initial monthly payment and not require a larger down payment. Their insurance actually beat my double liberty mutual insurance for all my cars so saved me money with that.

Watch Lehto's Law on RVs before purchasing an RV. Just so you know what you are getting and what your rights are (none). Your dealer is your only hope. Make sure the purchase agreement is what you want and are being told. Expect the you " 4:14 bought it, you own it treatment. " go to a dealer you can trust, if there us one

Not only do they try and do scam you out of thousands, but try to get warranty on the junk RV you bought is about impossible. Go to other good RV deals and absolutely stay away from Camping Word. I have never bought from them and never will. Many people are just not smart enough and that’s what they like. They are after raking the first time buyer and do not care about repeat business.

Several years ago I did buy a portable power station from them in Florida.
When I had issues with it, they did help meand get replacement parts, but as far as buying a camper, no I would NOT do that.
Another Camping World competitor is Princess Craft in Texas.
They have 2 locations in Texas, Round Rock & Katy.
    I was scammed for $500 .
I caught them trying to add the Texas Vit tax to my contract.
VIT is a dealer tax, not a consumer tax.
Apparently, any deposit you give them, is nonrefundable, even when you don't buy from them.😢

We looked at an RV, only because we knew exactly what we wanted, and that was the closest place (90 min) that had it. Some plan was propane, battery, and washing it, was over $1000. Ridiculous! So we went on down the road! It is kinda fun to see the finance people starting to add on with my husband. He puts them in their place. I don't know if I would call them "The Worse" much of what they do is accepted industry practices. (It is awful, but sadly common.)
I try to warn everyone to always look at the "Purchase Contract" very carefully, before you sign anything. They will automatically include all kinds of extras and "add-ons," to the deal. Many of these extras you might not want or need. Some of the charges can be negotiated away, if you try. Car dealers do this all the time. Their financing can be beat too. Car dealers will often try to get you to use their financing rather than you use your own Credit Union. (Who will always be the better rate.) RV dealers will do the same.

Not to mention Camping World repair is terrible as well. I just paid Camping World in Silverdale, WA to evaluate issue with our coach(03 Win. U35). The 16' power awning would not retract and they said that I needed to purchase a new power awning($3200). I took coach to another CW in Tacoma because they offered reduction in price about $800, total was $2400 instead of $3200. I got a call from them stating that they replaced old awning with new one but awning still will not retract. I asked them why did they tell me it needed replacement but they were unsure since it was another dealer that misdiagnosed it. They got it working again and were supposed to look at wipers as well. They had it for a month but would not return phone calls and I spoke to service manager(James) who told me that he would call me within the hour with update, that was Thursday. We called on Monday informing them we were picking it up and having someone else look at it. When we picked up coach service manager(James) told us it was an electrical box that was problem with awning not awning as we were originally told. They also did not reinstall awing protector, I do not know what happened to it. Coach is now worse than it was when they looked at it. Avoid these guys like the plague

25,000 is not expensive at all for a camper but lets also take some other things into consideration. I am still working and I get 5 weeks of vacation per year, more than most people. I probably spend 20 days, gives or take a few, out of town on leisure where I need to get a hotel. If a hotel costs 100 to 150 per night, that 25,000 dollars would go 8 to 10 years worth of hotel stays. Now consider that you also need to clean, store maintain, repair, insure and pay yearly registration on the camper, plus, you need a rig powerful enough to pull it and spend a boat load on gas, a camper simply doesn't make sense. I get that the camper represents a personal piece of home that is with you where you go, and you might consider it home, but in practical terms, it makes no sense.

Our first purchase from Camping World. It was a 2023 Eddie Bauer 5th wheel. By the time it made it to our campsite, we have a spot on the lake, there were many issues found. It was said to us that the trailer was used as a demo and we bought it new. Many items were taken care of via the warranty. Thing was we had to pay for the Tech to come out and make repairs. We were told it was their policy. Never again.

Get an email days later asking me what was going on and if I was going to buy the trailer or not. I emailed him back reminding him of our last conversation and not to call me again. Found what I was looking for at 10,000 less and I hadn't even talked with the finance person. That included the extras ( solar panel, slide topper installed) and weight distribution hitch. I doubt the trailer I was looking for even came.

Camping world is made up of several departments that do not communicate with each other. Sales department will tell you that the warranty department will handle any problems. The warranty department will say that the sales department had no right to tell you what they will handle or to speak for them. I found one place that charged (min) $299 for a "pre-purchase inspection" with $3.50 per mile. So I guess you could count on $400+. I can see that as reasonable for what it could save you.

@@funinourrv that would be a reasonable cost. AC units, furnace, HW heaters are big ticket items along with water damage. We've already spent 5k just making everything work as it should.
Think of it like doing a home inspection, you want to know before pulling the trigger.

It is easy to imagine the replacement of the water heater, on the smallest RV, costing well over $1000 to have replaced.

We bought a new 2022 toyota highlander from lassin Toyota in Albany oregon. They did this. We got a extra 7k charge but the wife didn't realize it and now when we went to trade it in to get a towing rig. We were told we are over 7k what they would offer for the truck. So we are screwed and can't trade it in till we pay the extra off.

Yes they tried to add on $300 per month for the protection plans, I turned that down and put $5000 in a bank account and if anything goes wrong, I will fix or pay for it myself. It is not all doom and gloom, you just need to be careful.

Going in in two days to “finalize” the paperwork, but if they don’t take off the $2k “happy camper package” BS I didn’t notice was in the initial form with the estimated payments (my partner is doing the financing. I didn’t see this form until we got home) my dude and I will be leaving. We will be getting NO add ons. We’re getting the cheapest TT they sell. I don’t care about extended warranties when we’re going to be heavily modding the unit and voiding all those anyways. I don’t care about “paint protection” when we’re repainting it to our liking anyways. No “cleaning”, not “walk through”, NOTHING. The initial sales guy was super chill and nice overall (aside from sneaking on that BS camping package), so hopefully the finance guy won’t be too much of a hassle. We have no problem leaving if he is.
I’ll try to remember to come back here and let y’all know how it went. 😂

Get cash in your hand or in your bank before you enter the RV yard. Haggle the price. Find your own insurance. Extended warranties, paint protection, service plans...it's all a con.
If you ever buy from a RV yard...Your paying the premium price(Highest price around).

Remember all those warranties are almost worthless. There are hundreds of ways they can get out of paying or just keep pushing off a good repair until the warranty expires. Once sold they are going to work just as hard as not spending a penny on warranty claims. Start to finish it is all a scam.

They tried to scam me by adding 3,000 on top of the original price with things like charging me extra for a walk through and delivery to their lot. I also ask them what the price would be if I paid cash for a used camper and the lady told me over the phone it would be 3,000 dollars more then the internet price because they get a kick back on the price if i finance it through their bank.

  • @DanWipper

Yes, do NOT use their financing, pay cash or have your own bank. Get the best price with any wanted extras, do not accept the first price and don't tell them you will pay cash or have you own bank. Write a check for what you agreed upon and if they do not like it do not buy it. The advertised special,,, don't drive miles to find out it NEVER existed and if you can find a ma and pa shop that are normally more honest.

Draper, UT has an RV that I'm interested in. The sales price says 27,999. There's a green link below that says unlock a lower price. I checked that out, and it's a discount for inhouse financing.
So I left that link, cause I have my own financing agreement ready with a lender. I looked over the RV and it was perfect. The model was exclusive to camping world.
So I when to discuss purchasing this trailer, and they tried to get me to use their financing. I told them no thanks. They said well this price only is available if you finance with us. It's 2,000 + more if you have your own financing. They also showed me a paper that has all these extra add ons. 3,000 to clean it, detail a brand new RV, and to do the wall around. Luckily, I've owned 3 RVs already and I'm very familiar with the ins and outs of how to maintain and use an RV. I told them I don't want this add on. Also tried to add on good sam, and protection, they were asking for 6,000 down on a 27,999 trailer and with all the ads ons the price (with my own financing) - the 6,000 down came to 32,000. I'm not kidding you guys. Total scam.
    False advertising.
I did not sign anything and left, shortly after they called me. Wanted me to sign their paper to accept that price.
I told Mike that it really feels shady to advertise it one way then mark it up if you have your own financing.
He told me I was being shady.
That's when I told him I was not doing business with him and left the conversation.
I guess I looked dumb, but I'm not. Don't get scammed.

Camping world screwed us over, in 2014 we bought a very slightly used 2014 Rockwood Mini Lite it had premium wheels and tires on it, then they switched the wheels to crappy steel rims I have pictures to prove it. Unfortunately it was way to late to do anything but I did post pictures and review on google about that, plus they really don’t know anything about camping and campers, I would venture a guess that most campers actually know more about camping and campers than anyone who works at camping world

I have been royally screwed by CW. They tried to "make it right" after not accepting a sight unseen unit (sent pictures beside the SIDE SWIPED side in pics). One this this video doesn't mention is "holding rate". LOOK AT THEIR SCREEN ON THE TOP RIGHT. It was 3% higher and called them out. On a 130K rig, that's TON of compounded interest. It's legal, but unethical. I asked "is that the buy rate?" "Yes". "Then why I am seeing a rate that's 3% higher? "You're the second person to catch that.
