About 30 years ago i did a bit of security work at weekends, some of the big outside concerts & stadiums. Without fail if there was any upset or aggro, misunderstandings, traffic problems, people being given wrong instructions, anything negative to make security work harder & plod would be at the bottom of it. I knew some of the older guys in security who actually despised plod because they made the job much harder, you would hear them groan when the meat head uniformed plod turned up!
I did a few tours of Northern Ireland and the RUC at the time where supposed to be well trained with firearms. I sat in the back of a land rover with 2 of them one night both of them resting their chins on the barrels of their rifles whilst going over speed bumps at speed! Not my place as a young fresh faced marine to question their training!

As a German all these auditing videos are funny on one hand and strange on the other to me. We carry ID cards in Germany, police can stop you and you have to identify. Our privacy laws are different. You can't take pictures of individuals in public if you single them out. In the background of a famous sight it is different of course. British PCSOs and PCs behave like they are under German law. They sometimes even don't know the laws at all e.g. drone flying. I'm puzzled. All this nonsense about "unusual behaviour, suspicious behaviour, anti terrorism, concerns for the public bla, bla. They always follow the same script. I find auditing videos quite entertaining. We can't film the police in Germany either.
In hindsight, next and future audits and interactions begin any engagement with “am I being detained l” if their first response is no , speak no further and keep walking , even if they are still trying to talk to you . They can’t say no you are not then detain you for walking away , if they do that , that is a breach. (unlawful confinement and impeding another persons right to travel ) I would like to see some silent auditing just to see how they react in the UK when you don’t say anything at all .. disclaimer: be prepared to possibly get cuffed and searched … lol Silence is golden 😉

Police should be forbidden to even ask ID unless they have a good reason to do so. That uniform gives some authority, so "asking" is more than that.
