    Been following you channel for a long while now. Been using Maya since Maya 4, so about 20ish years now.... Now, trying to learn to use Blender! And your videos have been great!

      Congrats. Btw, is it true that Maya users don't have as much problems with changing to blender compared to users of 3DS?

    Great video! Love all your content and the cheat sheet. One thing I've discovered about the simple deform mod is that whatever you bend should be aligned how you want along the X axis. Once I started doing that it's worked well. Thanks for all you do!

    that's a convenient and quick way to add support loops. i was using the add edge loop all along but now that i figured out it can be done quickly and more accurately by the bevel tool i'm feeling stupid about myself hahaha. the never ending process of learning. nice share!

    Thank you for the video! If you want to merge verts through nodifiers you can use weld modifier. I used this to quickly merge all of the verts that I missed. You can kinda go non-destructive with this modifiers if you want, though I quickly applies it... just in case I forgotten about it. 🙃

    A little tip for the last method, when you say things like you prefer it to be a little thinner but that's no problem since this is all procedural... it would be really procedural if you keep the Array modifiers and change height and diameter by changing the count in the modifiers instead of deleting geometry in Edit Mode. Oh, and you do not have to enable the Snap tool, you can just hold Ctrl for temporary snapping while moving the pieces. But don't get me wrong, great tutorial nevertheless!

    Blender noob here - is there a reason why you delete the top/bottom cylinder faces to grid fill? Is it not advisable to have an Ngon there?

    • @jlmussi
      @jlmussi  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sometimes on those cylindrical poles, you can have shading issues if using a SubD modifier. However if you don't have any shading issues, and your pipeline doesnt require all quads, you should be fine. Flat surfaces are much more forgiving for poles and ngons vs curved surfaces. Hope that helps.

    I just picked up Maya again after about 10 years and am doing a combination of Udemy classes and working through text books that I find online. So far i am working through Autodesk Maya 2025 Basics Guide. I been trying to find books specifically on hard surface modeling and 3D environment design. Anyone have any advice on any? I found a bunch of them with Blender but none with Maya. Any advice would be highly welcomed and appreciated.

    I'm literally going on 27 hours and I still can not find a single video on how to add a hole to an imported 3d model? Is it possible? Everyone making a video makes a very basic geometric shape in blender and then adds a hole to this, which I have to say coming from Fusion 360, is the most frustrating thing known to man. Its a simple hole...but can Blender possibly make it anymore complex. By the time I figure out to make a simple hole in a 3D model in blender, I will just have to whisper "place 10 mm hole top of model " into a Nvidia Ai model and it will do it for me, which is sad but its coming.

    Dev who made the code for the SimpleDefform modifier probably never used it in practice in his life. You have to rotate the Origin point every time to make it work as expected. I had to put a small script to do it for me. Terrible design. No one has fixed it for years. Not to mention the Array modifier that can't make a circle array without using an empty object. Such simple actions should be built into modifiers. You can go on like this all day long. But at least Blender has the best price in the world :)
