You are right, Mick, CC made the moment, and the league is experiencing explosive growth and change because of her. My problem with AR, besides her negligible basketball skills (outside of rebounding and some defense), is her narcissism and her toxic behavior towards CC. It was deplorable how enthusiastically she cheered on Carter doing her nasty hit job on Clark. I also dislike how she goes on record saying she has no problem with Clark, when she clearly doesn't like her or resents her success and attention. I'd respect her more if she stopped gaslighting and just admit she doesn't like Clark. Otherwise, she just seems like one of these navel-gazing, self-obsessed influencer types who only cares about herself and her image. The selfish double-double chasing got embarrassing. Is she really a great model for young girls who look up to her? Once again, SI chooses to sell way, way fewer magazines as they did with the swimsuit edition. If CC22 was on the front of this magazine they’d sell some multiple of this. OR, if they had actual leadership, they’d have some editions with CC22 on front, and others with AR. Then let the market do its thing! Put them side-by-side on the shelves. But nope. Sold out to not selling magazines. Don’t care what anyone thinks about the fake polarization of this issue. They simply chose to sell fewer magazines. Not profitable. Not making money. But they are lining up with WNBA subculture, which has precious few fans who don’t go to games. So they have that going for them, which is nice…

Sports Illustrated has been quite politicized for a decade or more. No way they weren’t gonna put Reese on the cover. I think Clark had a much bigger influence. No question. Reese is, how should I say it, more picturesque.
Like it or not, Reese is influential. She has multiple platforms and models, health and beauty products a part owner of a soccer team and now has a podcast. More sponsors will come and eventually the collectible Chi-town Barbie dolls. Expect to find her in Movies eventually.

Reese quit on her team before the end of the season because Caitlin Clark smoked her for ROTY, Reese scandalously padded her stats all season long, Reese played on the worst team in the league, and Reese had the worst shooting percentage in the league for shots 5 feet and closer. Most importantly, Reese's basketball game has more holes than swiss cheese. So Reeses needs less social media, less influencing, less cultural events and more practice in the gym.
To those who don't get it by now, there are more angel reeses in this world than Caitlin so of course we are gonna promote and encourage the young reeses of the world to follow in her footsteps.

Paige is a highly talented and I like her, but she played a full season last year and was really good, but outside UCONN and hardcore fans nobody was paying attention to her, while CC mania was in full flower. This year will be a good test of how much she moves the needle at the college level, as CC will be in her off-season and Paige, if she's going to be more than just a really good player, can show that she can stir up public interest like CC did in her college career.

I've believed from the get go that the W is a launching pad for Angel's media ambitions. She has a Kardashian-like gift for self-marketing and the narcissist's uncanny ability to persuade folks that she's for real whether it was ginning up a phony conflict with Caitlin or her Chicago Barbie gig coupled with her pretty in pink podcast. Angel is a hustler and not just on the basketball court. As any publicity is better than no publicity when public adulation is the goal, Angel and her publicists might look to the off season to get her a spot on a TV sitcom or crime show or an appearance on The View. Or a weekly, fifteen minute squib on one of the sports channels, reviewing the current fashions in ladies' outfits as players arrive at their locker rooms before suiting up for the game. In any event, snagging rebounds is a means to an end, and if Angel snags a lot of them, more power to her.
Sports Illustrated is owned by ABG which also owns Reebock. Reese has a deal with Reebock. OF COURSE SI is going to put Reese on the cover...

If Angel doesn’t continue to get better on the floor she will be gone in 5 years. Caitlin improved during the break and Angel Reese stayed the same or got worse. I really don’t enjoy watching Angel play. She is a great rebounder, but despite her ‘rep’ I do not see the great defensive skills that get attributed to her. Not a shot blocker, or steals leader, and I rarely see her playing perimeter defense. She defends in the paint pretty well, and her effort fighting for rebounds is elite. Her other skills are not. Diana Taurasi’s message really applied to her. She is big and strong, but so are all the other seasoned experienced front court players and aside from her great rebounding and some isolated plays down low she is overmatch skill wise.
This is equivalent to putting Dillon Brooks on the cover
