They're chrome metal is very easy to scratch (with microfiller enamel primer BASE) , how do you protect that without using a clear coat that removes the whole metal effect
I watch the Green Stuff World video and they went from no coverage to complete coverage in a blast from the airbrush. That makes sense because when you brush paint it you put on a very heavy coat and the paint flows into a uniform surface. Airbrushing on light even coats allows the paint to dry before it can start the flow effect. My 2 cents.
Someone was getting good mirror results by airbrushing the brush version of their chrome, only used a few drops of their thinner from GSW, or as an experiment try Mr. Leveling Thinner 400.
Maybe you're supposed to go at it super thick right from the 1st coat? To the point where it almost drips since when using a brush a thick coat is applied.
Well that’s disappointing I have a set of these coming. GSW told me on their IG that these were both airbrush and brush on. When I asked what the difference was between this Chrome Metal and the other two versions (Mirror) they told me it was basically the same. Also I’ve had the best luck airbrushing their Mirror Chrome at 12-15 psi on heavy and wet. Any higher than 15 psi atomizes the paint on the surface and gives it a duller finish.
Must be something in the cure that gives the chrome shine. With the airbrush causing the alcohol to evaporate so quickly, the paint isn't curing normally. Great vid as always.
Just tried them out and had the same results with airbrushing them not as chrome as I would like, still a lovely paint. Watching the green stuff world video again they seem to have a really nice chrome effect when they airbrush it. So not really sure what's up with that.
I'm thinking the shine could come from a leveling agent of some kind. flat = shiny, bumpy = dull. Perhaps you didn't apply a thick enough layer with the airbrush to let it self level, or maybe the paint dries a tiny bit when applied by airbrush. did you try applying a really heavy coat with the airbrush? Maybe several thin layers won't give the same effect either.
Another good video but again pls overlay the settings you use for psi, needle. I know you said them but that means rewatching over again to hear those settings…. But glad you finally have that plated gold look
Mad glad i found your channel tbh best guy out there when it comes to this hobby im just starting so i dont even have a compressor and anything but some built gunpla and some tools looking forward to learning more here man
yes.. a big difference between the use of the airbrush vs the brush version... at the end of your demonstration, you show several other chrome paints..Did you try the Molotov version ? available in pencils and spray ? i used it and it is efficient
Did you try thinner with Mr color lvling thinner that's what I think all my tamiya and Mr color aqueous paint with both are alcohol based and it works about a million times better that 90% iso let us know if it works
Cool colors. Great test. Can you put clear over them? It probably doesn't make any difference, but I always use 99% isopropyl alcohol. I get it on amazon.
Great brushed on finish so just have to wait for the AB range. Really good to see that you are going to review the Zurc chrome. The guys from Canberra Hobby Centre are really good to deal with and I hope you can try the other Zurc paints as there are many in the range.
Sunnyside sells 99% Isopropyl and there is also denatured alcohol and you could even try a mix of denatured alcohol and acetone. Xylol/xylene may help slow the evaporation of the alcohol too
While you were brushing on the gold, I was thinking the same with the gold kit from a couple of weeks ago. This looks to be good for touch up on a PG strike freedom as well, quite a few golds in that kit.
I think it`s dulling the paint because non technical IPA have a little water content, time ago I tried mr Hobby leveling thinner with a little retarder to thin the non airbrush version of GSW chrome paint, and shine very nicely.
Awesome, I'm so happy you're gonna make more tests of these paints as they are quite widely avaliabale in Poland and I'm in a need of good metallics that are not too expensive - I make costumes and props so I go through a lot of paint 😬
Those are very nice paints. One of the usual issues I find with gold paints is that they don't usually look gold, rather a gold colour but these look very much like your wedding ring when it was visible at the same time as a painted piece, so it's nice to know a brand has proper gold colours. Cheers old chap.
Have you tried using Mr color leveling thinner? It works with tamiya which is also an alcohol based paint. Maybe it will help with the finish? Or use a lower air pressure? I ordered the golds and they just arrived yesterday so Im sad now lol
As much as I was looking forward to this video after reading you community page, now that you showed some of their metal colors, am really looking forward to that ... even though they're lacquer. Great to hear Olly is doing fine. :)
Green Stuff on their channel airbrushed them and they did looked phenomenal. I have feeling that they either looks bad on big areas of the spoons but look better on detailed pieces like the hand or you black plastic is not good replacement for proper shiny black primer :)
Very nice, looks to be the same exact shades as their metal pigment powders which I've been impressed by, and I'm always looking for a nice champagne sorta silver.
Im going to try this gold. Molotow doesnt make gold. You ever try molotow chrome? Try molotow chrome refill and spray it straight out of the bottle. No reduction. Dont dust it on. Spray one thick coat. Its amazing. I wish i could send you a picture of what i did. Dont touch it for 2 weeks though . It takes s while to dry. Youll dull it by touching it
Looks to me like it's drying too fast when airbrushed, thus the metallic pigments are not rising to the top like they do when brushed on. I may be way off base. I want to do some experimenting of my own with them. Exceptional prices on the paint products. Postage isn't terribly bad either. Thanks much for the introduction to the chrome line. I've used their metallic paints brushed on in the past and like them. Very similar to Vallejo IMO.
Hi, in the demonstration made by gsw in their channel says in the comments that the paint is airbrush ready so it appears that there is no need for thinning them.
OK. I bought the entire set, including two AIRBRUSH Chromes. Did little heavy test patches. They look awesome! Now, my problem. As usual, the paints company gives us little to go on. I don't even know what they are? Acrylic, alcohol acrylic, enamel, laquer? What do I need to thin these puppies to airbrush them. And NOT kill the shine? And what to use to seal them, or is that even needed? Again, without killing the shine. Aquagloss is near impossible to purchase .Have E7, and Gauzy, as well as micro gloss. I am gonna need some AWESOME copper and brass. These have all the signs of being great. Thanks for the review! Cheers
I am near a hobbyist shop in the UK that stock Green Stuff paints, I'd be happy to give you their details if you need some mailed out to you. Great video boss!
Well, admittedly, GSW do say that they don't recommend using it on large surfaces, so those results kinda make sense. Also, did you try reducing it with ethanol/denatured alcohol? Their site says to *clean it* with alcohol, but makes no mention of reduction methods.
I just got this. I try to hand paint 2 small pieces, one with thicker and the other with thinner paint. Looks like only thin paint can achieve shinny chrome look. The thicker one looks kinda dull.
I'm concerned if the paint will react with certain plastics used throughout a Gundam. Is there a type of plastic we should avoid when applying this paint?
Would denatured alcohol work to thin these? You said the 91% running alcohol worked better than the lower percentage ones. Maybe pure alcohol would work?
Cool video Rex. I'm really interested in the paint review videos because you do a excellent job on them. Really helpful to me with what colors I may want. Can you please try the green stuff world liquid frost.

I'm not sure what percentage it is but if 91% is good maybe alcohol fuel for a camp stove might be better. I don't know what the percentage is or what else is in it but it's a suggestion. I'd try it but I don't have this paint.
Maybe you could of painted a spoon? May be something to do with large flat areas? Could of experimented and either confirmed or ommited that from the equasion by painting a brush, maybe? Saying that im just adding my 2cents,your a mile or 10 ahead of me in all this.
I have been using the Chrome Metal brush on from GSW and am well impressed with its appearnace, LOOKS great! However I find it gets easily blemished when handled. Is that the case with these new colors? thanks!
Gsw them self sprayed them in the video they made, so i actully dont think they will do a airbrush version of them. Check out the video on the gsw channel
Hey thanks for the video Barbatos ! I got these paints to go on a resin print prop and they look amazing! I ran into an issue while using them though, maybe someone out there knows the answer? The issue is the paints don't seem to dry/harden very well. I used a brush to paint them on a prop that was handled quite a bit. The top layer is tacky and soft, and you can easily leave a fingerprint in it, even 24 hrs after drying. The paint doesn't come off on you, or off of the prop, but the paint loses its luster. It's really noticeable on larger, flatter surfaces as well. Is there some kind of curing agent you're supposed to use with them? If anyone knows...
For large areas through the airbrush, I wonder if it's worth buffing with a polishing mop on a dremal? The green stuff world website does suggest a light rub with a cloth, once dry to improve the shine...
I can achieve the chrome effect with tinplate and bronze using airbrush, but not the others. The two gold are disappointing. The inconsistency across colors is weird
Since they are alcohol-based maybe they dry too fast when atomised? Did you try adding retarder when airbrushing or using something like mr leveling thinner?
