Being realistic i think if a 3rd person video game character went up against a first person video game character i would put my bets on the third person character only because he would be able to see around corners without actually peaking them.

Rainbow Echo i dunno man it depends on the type of third person character like i brought up warframe because its a third person game where you are capable of some really insane ways of moving around a map running on walls deflecting bullets with a sword and stuff like that. its why i think a strafe jumping rocket sniping quake character would be a great matchup for a third person character like a warframe tenno. Or even doomguys running speed which has been calculated to be aproximately 60 miles an hour if he were to exist in the real world.
imo i prefer 1st person camera for hardcore shooters like CoD, Battlefield,Counter Strike and so on, its not tactical shooter... but games where u have to be sneaky all the time, i would go with 3rd person (plus "one extra benefit" is that u can see how your character look while playing XD)... ofc, Ghost Recon Phantoms combined both - 1st person and 3rd person in it, and thats why i LOVE it XD

0:47 notice how the spy is attempting to hack the terminal, but his teammates are running for their lives instead of "defending" them. I wish I could say this isnt the case when playing online.

They did correctly, spies aren't built for a stand up, out in the open fight against mercs.
Moreover, mission objectives take priority over soldiers. If you're not willing to sacrifice or lose men you can never expect to win against an opponent who is willing to sacrifice some of his men to achieve victory.
By running into the shadows the spies played to their strength.
Lol. They are respawning. The scene in 0:47 was the same as it is in the end of the game. Meaning his teammates are dead when the spy is attempting to hack it
They had only one gun anyway, what did you want them to do?
You'd think Alpha would be the final standing merc, because the skull mask and light machine gun, not to mention Alpha as being "elite" but nope, first to get killed.

Normally you'd think people would notice the guy at 1:18 standing in plain sight on the wall. However, that would require players to actually look up.
I know from experience very few people ever think of that. I myself have missed several GIANT GAPING HOLES IN THE CEILING with obvious loot caches because it took me forever to think to look there.

Ryetz Nah, it was out of my line of sight most of the time unless I actually moved my camera up- something I never actually considered as a possibility.
I think you missed my point, Peripheral vision is something that its in your line of sight but doesn't actually notice it due to it being out of focus.
Regardless if the dude can obviously be spotted, the Mercs couldn't even spot him due to out of focus, His sight is also affected due to the dim lighting and adrenaline rush he also needs to focus on his gun.

I play ARMA, so I kinda get the best of both worlds. From my experience, whenever I am moving around (whether it be in a vehicle or on foot) I tend to use third person mode 90% of the time. This is due to the enhanced FOV. You pretty much have a 360 degree view in your surroundings. This allows for area awareness. However when I go to fight I almost always switch to first person mode. It is much easier to aim and track targets in FP mode, which is always a bonus. In a game where staying on target and being accurate is key, FP mode really helps with that. The only time I would switch to third person mode during combat would be when I am behind cover and am searching for my enemy, trying to pin point his or her location. Once I pin point them and am ready to fire I switch back to FP mode.

I still feel like this is one of your best videos ever. The realistic incorporation of in-game mechanics, the round restarting, and the way it's filmed all make it so entertaining to watch. Great job guys.
Oculus Rift connected to a direct live feed to a camera strapped to your back and positioned on a mount 3 feet behind you and one foot above you. Real life third person mode. Just be careful not to knock into things w/ the camera.
The mounted camera from 3ft behind you would not work for the spies especially given all the acrobatics and tight spaces they employ. In the future perhaps a few nano-drones could take the place of the mounted camera?

Amazing! I particularly love the last few shots, with the Mercs making their comeback. Good movement. They even thought about putting two through the recently shot Spy, for good measure. Music fits, too. That tactical advisor know what he's doing.

It's insane that even coming back and watching this video SIX YEARS after it was made and with so many advances in the film making industry this short still stands as a very well made video with a strong and clear storyline that keeps the viewer constantly entertained while keeping good camera work and continuity.

i love still love this video after all these years, mostly because of how much i love Splinter cell, especially Spies vs Mercs.
Sadly the multiplayer in Blacklist is dead, Ubisoft needs to do a new game with better support for the Multiplayer. SC:Blacklist barely had any support, there was like one to three patches and that's it.

3rd perough cover and walls its just move the camera trough it but 1st person you need to place yourself in danger and this makes it follow the rules of a firefight where you may take risk getting out of your cover to see the enemy not just move your camera and know exactly where the enemy is so 1st person get my vote

I feel like Third Person Shooters are more movement and stealth based, while FPS' are Action and Aim based.

That was so awesome. I loved this video. I'm a huge fan of third person. Games like assassins creed, the batman Arkham series, and other games like that are amazing because of the pov you play in. But I absolutely love first person games like Battlefield and kill zone because seeing through the eyes of the player just makes it that more realistic. I love realism in games. I always look for graphics and good mechanics is a game. Games now a days are just awesome because of how realistic they look (especially Battlefield 4 on xbox one. That game is epic, but you can't argue with the classics like Mario and Link). If I had to vote I would side with first person only because I love realistic games. Epic video. Keep up the great work :)

No, in third person the camera is behind and above you, not on the side. Well, you can make it go on the sides (like in Skyrim), but for practical use you put it in standard position
