Simon Chang Looks like Liquid Snake from Metal Gear Solid when he was disguised as another character. They even call him boss in the game. Also Cobra = Snake. They have almost the same voice.
DaBaDaMaMaN I know, but the idea of MGS is being sneaky, but Hotline Miami is all about fucking shit up and looking badass with an animal head at the same time.
My mom thought this was a video game. Took me a while to convince her it's live-action with special effects. I think her sense of reality has diminished.
I am researching top down shooters, specifically looking at the gameplay, and at first I was kind of annoyed like "this is just a cutscene, wtf" until I realized, this was 9 years ago. I thought this was a game at first. Graphics are getting amazing these days. Great work
***** Joshua Casper They have done the same effect before in other videos and tracked the sword much more accuractly, for example the video 'Art of the Instakill' at 1:05 there is a scene where Master Chief gets stabed and the tracking in that looks very realistic. Here is the link to the video: th-cam.com/video/QwNVQvygCNQ/w-d-xo.htmlm3s
This is inspired in Metal Gear Solid for the original Playstation. The voice of the main guy (who is named "Cobra", a *snake*) is a clear parody of Solid Snake some close combat techniques were similar, and that thing that pops out whenever a new weapon shows up, is the same as Metal Gear's. That "controller unplugging" boss fight is based off Psycho Mantis, a boss that required you to use the player 2 controller to win. Also, the bad guy is named "Boss". The main bad guy in Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake for the MGX is "Big Boss". Movement is interrupted with radio calls, just like with Metal Gear's codec calls. I noticed for a second the dialogue is interrupted in a sentence, as if someone skipped that line, which you can do by pressing "circle" in the controller.
Not to mention the knocking on walls to attract the gaurds attention. In the description it says "coooobraaaaaaaaaaa" (simiar to when snake dies and a character yells "Snake respond! Snake! Snak3 Snaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaakeee!) Him breaking the camera is 4th wall breaking (which the series does frequently) At the end of MGS 2 Raiden gets a Katana that functions the same way as in this video. During MGS 3 you get a knife that functions the same way as in this video. Also when you have a human shield gaurds hesitate you shoot you from the front. Finally Boss is dressed as Liquid when he disguises himself as Kaz Miller (I know he's not Big Boss but the similarity is still there)
The planning involved in this simple looking video must have been insane! it's so nice seeing vids like this, reminds me of the good old days of gaming, mixed in with realistic war games, love it as usual! keep it up :D Also Stop-Motion Parkour is one of my all time faves of your channel! as well as third person shooter, which I hope you do more of in the future, as since seeing your 3rd person shooter i've been striving to use a similar technique in paintball, getting there slowly, but would love to see you guys do more, so I can see where i'm going wrong lol ;) Keep it up team!
often the case with youtube, my average time spent on a single video is over 40 hours, and I rarely get more than 1000 views, yet the biggest paintballer has 1000's on day one with much less effort, the joys of video making lol
thats because the last boss fight have a very hard mechanic of losing the 3dperson view and his confusing know that if you dont move during the custcene then you get instantkill
I think the katana thing everyone is complaining about might have been more of a stylistic choice, making it look more like a videogame and less realistic. I'm sure they could have made it look realer if they wanted, but as it is it looks like it came straight out of a top down shooter arcade game which is exactly what they were going for with this video.
***** "Real". Look at any of it, do you think bullets look like they do in this video? Long yellow streaks evenly spread out as they are, even with a shotgun? Or grenades? Regardless of any other examples, I have no reason to doubt Corridor Digital because clearly they're quite capable of making it look real if they want to. Unless they were rushing and just had no time to work on the katana more, I'm just going to assume it was a choice.
***** I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree :P I just have faith that Corridor Digital can do better than that if they try haha. Like João said, maybe they just forgot. Whatever the case, it was still a great video!
***** There are so many things that go into making a video, and occasionally we can't afford to devote the time required to make things look as real as they can be. We made it look as good as it could be given all the restraints we had. We try our best though, but we don't exactly have a lot of people or budget most of the time.

You know, I kinda hate good guys who kill bad guys who've given up. Especially if the bad guys are only guards or other low level guys. Makes the good guys bad themselfes.
u have no idea how happy i was when i clicked on a recommended video that looks cool as all hell and was playing my favourite song!!! coincidence? i think not!
I'm not complaining or anything but the youtube player shows 1080p60 for me but this clearly isn't 60FPS. Is this a bug? I thought it would only say 1080p if it's not 60FPS? Great video guys :D

Best way to motivate someone 'he killed your father'
He killed your lizard cloning launch codes!
Wait so he killed his father and started to clone lizards to put them in a nuke? Is this right.
I really wasn't expecting the camera thing. That was beautifully done!
Its called breaking the 4th wall, like how metal gear solid( I don't remeber which, used the psycho mantis thingy)
It was really creative!

Kat McCollough - Vlogs DID YOU EVEN READ THE TITLE?
Outlawfox10 tv she means the part where he hit the camera :p
The amazing thing isn't the action scenes, but the fact that it's all one shot

look at the shadows I think it may be done in a couple shots.
still impressive though
1:14 particularly. The shadows also betray the fake sword at 2:04.
*AnonymouslessGamer* What do you mean one shot, there were so many more bullets at once
He means one shot with the camera, that there were no cuts between scenes.
TheScienceIsReal 1
1.14 probably is a cut
"Damn. What a boss…" Killer job guys!
Thought boss looked like Hudson

It already exists - it's called *Hotline Miami*
Nah I'd say it's more like the Metal Gear's (the NES and SNES originals)
DaBaDaMaMaN But this wasn't exactly sneaky, it was just more of a house invasion badass level. Which is more like Hotline Miami.
You didn't have to be sneaky all the time though, it isn't like Splinter Cell where getting spotted=mission failure.

Really good, one thing i noticed was the sword at 2:05 looked quite fake, apart from that all was great.
Because it is fake? I'm guessing it's really difficult to track the sword's blade at that camera angle.
agreed
It doesn't take a master editor to look at that and see it doesn't look all that real.
Corey Grimard Even in The Walking Dead, a TV show with a massive special effects budget, VFX swords don't look very real.

Btw i didn't mean that kind of explosion fire like in the ones of action essentials etc. I mean that orange redish fire that's there for just 1 sec. I see one of them in one of the explosions. Could've been a bit more intense. That's what i mean :)
Chribit lol next corridordigital vid michael bay mode confirmed. everything shall explode
Xenibalt:
Yeah the music fits perfectly actually :D i'm just not used to hearing familiar music from sam and niko and their team.
Came back here after the new John Wick to see the inspiration
even today it is still one of the e best corridor digital vids
I'm almost certain John Wick 4's top down scene was inspired by this
The boss said " I had eyes everywhere" is that referring to the camera?
This is honestly one of the best vids youve made, perfect song too. cant stop watching
WOOOOOW this video was so Amazing!!! I need to step my game up lol!
was this video done in one take?
***** It was actually done in two
Wow that's still amazing...It takes me a dozen takes filming my videos
You know, I kinda hate good guys who kill bad guys who've given up. Especially if the bad guys are only guards or other low level guys. Makes the good guys bad themselfes.
Yes but most times in anything you turn your back on the guys who give up they try to kill you again.
Propoganda Pat This was supposed to be a video game...
Propoganda Pat Most doesn't equal all...
If someone had just tried to kill you would you not make sure they would never try anything like that again? I'd have no hesitation
I cant speak for the first two games, but in Infamous Second Son, you can simply subdue surrendering enemies keeping your "good".
u have no idea how happy i was when i clicked on a recommended video that looks cool as all hell and was playing my favourite song!!! coincidence? i think not!
What game would I need to play to get this kind of experience?
Hotline Miami.
MultiMagniGladii Hmmm... I can't see this video being like Hotline Miami
Corey Grimard As someone who's played Hotline Miami extensively, both the pacing and actions within this video closely resemble Hotline Miami.
MultiMagniGladii I might check it out.. Should I play the first or second one?
Corey Grimard There's only one of them.
I would call that playing on 'Easy'
Great job on the editing though.
lmao when a vid starts with pegboard nerds you know its good
Hotline Miami 3: Revenge ;)
Hotline Miami 3: Re-dial
+Nguyễn Đỗ Khôi Nguyên HM 3: The Right Number
they were nuked
But *The Biker* escaped into the desert.
One of meh fav vids good job corridor
Corridor chose the right time of day to make use of the wall and it's shadow to create an illusion of a smiley 00:23. I love that stuff! 👏
Had to rewatch this after John Wick 4.
Absolute genius.
Especially the way the conceit of the video becomes incorporated into the story. That blew my mind.
8 year later we finally get a scene like that in a big screen movie
At first I thought:
"Wow, I've never seen anything like this before!"
But then I remembered:
HOTLINE MIAMI
that was awesome!
4th wall break at the end. XD
Giovanni Perna
That was the best part
shieldgenerator7 I wish top down shooters were this cool. :P
I come back to this video on a regular basis because how dope it is
Hate to say it but pretty sure John wick franchise took notes from this video, for John wick 4 shoot out scene towards the ending ?!
Jeeee i wonder who cobra is inspiree from?? Who coooooooould it be?
Solid cat?
hmmm i think its from metal gear soild but oh well i might be wrong
Spider Man?
Me?
I don't know, but he's pretty solid.
Pegboard Nerds AND Corridor Digital? Oh man, those four are unstoppable.
I'm not complaining or anything but the youtube player shows 1080p60 for me but this clearly isn't 60FPS. Is this a bug? I thought it would only say 1080p if it's not 60FPS?
Great video guys :D
It was a bug with the export. We didn't intend for it to be 60fps. Definitely was not shot that way.
Thanks for clearing that up. Awesome work, I hope there will be true 48/60FPS videos some time in the future :)
Yeah! Sam and I both are really interested in experimenting with 60fps stuff. Actually, if you click on my channel (this is my personal second channel) you can find a longboarding video I did at 60fps
Disregard this, I didn't notice the HD settings changed the videos to 60fps now
TH-cam allows 60FPS for 1080p as well as 720p since October 29 2014 (last Week).
2014 reaction to 2:46... "Cool"
2020 reaction to 2:46... *waits for the part where a cyborg Keanu Reeves walks up to the camera and tells me we've got a city to burn*
This is the content which keeps TH-cam great! Well done
So, I just saw John Wick 4 and remembered this.
Katana is the way to go bro.
Nice ! :)))
