Hey there! Mama of 4, bottle fed all 4, with two who needed oral therapy. I will leave a tl;dr on bottom. Speech pathologists love standard neck dr browns, and wide neck bottles like lansinoh, the evenflo bottle, for the reasons she mentions in this video. The WORST is is cotomo and any bottle that has a severe sudden slope. Now if you are mostly nursing its probably not as much of a concern as your baby gets great training while nursing and it probably wont matter as much if your baby refuses dr browns or a gradual slope bottle (I would still recommend staying away from como tomo.) Also, sippy cups- straw cups are excellent for development! It is a learning curve but speech therapists love them because of all the strength and training the lip formation and suction provides. The best ones are the ones with valves as they will give resistance. As far as pacifiers, all my kids have used tommee tippie and mam.My youngest was using cherry shaped like itzy ritzy aswell but i didnt like his latch. My oldest needed therapy because we think he had a weak suction from birth and being a new mom, i didnt know his symptoms were abnormal. He also spoke very well and very early so it took till 2.5 for me to reach out. My 3rd child had an underbite and bad latch. I made the mistake of giving him bottles with sudden slopes since I assumed less leaking meant better latch. He also had a tongue tie reattach and that made a major complication as well. He too learned to speak well and speak early, thankfully with my experience with my oldest I knew something was wrong when he was 9 months old and drowning on a sippy cup. I like to share about him speaking well because I had an ENT insist he didnt need a second tongue tie revision as he was speaking and eating. She claimed he was "not symptomatic.' Well theres far more to it than speaking and being able to swallow food. haha but anyway! TLDR: DR Browns, Lansinoh, Evenflo balance plus (wide and standard.) Basically anything standard neck or with gradual slope are the best options along with the slowest nipple flow. Ive had kids need oral and feeding therapy and tried to learn as best I could.
It’s funny because the first one LOOKS more like a breast. However, the second one acts more like a breast in that it is malleable and fits into the baby’s mouth. We use the lasinoh bottles when we do use them.
I love the lansinoh bottles. Actually started using them by accident because I have their manual pump and just used the bottle it came with to feed baby. Ended up being her favorite bottle so we ordered a ton more 🤣
Have I been intentionally spayed to PREVENT baby? Yes Will I still have this in the back of my mind if a baby gets dropped off on my door step? Also yes.
I used to work in a toyrus/babiesrus and it was very much ‘well, that brand is always returned, this one is expensive with a lot of engineering by men, this one looks like it’s meant for you, but this is the last bottle everyone buys and you want it’
@@laura897001 the bottles I also used for my son is now what they now called Playtex VentAire. It just seems like yesterday he was a baby but he'll be 23 in September.
Im pregnant with my first and just learned that the nipple should go all the way to the baby's soft pallet. I was shook! I didn't know it went in the far, but it makes a lot of sense that you would want a bottle that can easily go deep into the mouth

Thank you so much for this video. I remember when I was a first time momma, my mom has just passed and I had no one to ask for help. I went to my pediatrician (a D.O.) and asked her for bottle recommendations and she dismissed me and spoke to me like I was an idiot for asking. I know there is a new momma out there that is so grateful for this video.
I pray you immediately found a new pediatrician. And I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother before you were a mother... We do badly need our momma's. I was lucky enough to attend a lecture by the woman who created the latter bottle. So much good info and I have passed it on to as many mamas as I can.
I wish I had known this before I had my daughter last year 😢 She was in the NICU for a month after a traumatic birth experience & had a hard time eating. We tried breastfeeding hour after hour until we were both exhausted. We had to use a bottle & she was also on a feeding tube until she could learn to eat on her own. Pumping in those early days in the hospital was rough. We both kept trying to learn how to breastfeed from the source. We used nipple shields of every size, shape & texture, & kept at it until I had to finally come to terms with the idea that breastfeeding wasn't going to happen for us. I'm grateful we both still bonded & sooo thankful I could at least give her my breast milk in whatever way we got it into her! And I will say, once we were all home & my milk was plentiful & I was in bed exhausted, it was sort of nice to have the hubby & grandma's do feedings while I got the much much needed uninterrupted sleep 😴 💤 My daughter just turned 1. She is a very happy, healthy, loving, sweet baby girl & I thank God every day he gave me my 1 & only miracle baby. ❤ I wish I could have more children & apply what I learned with the first, but it isn't in the cards for us.

Curious to hear what you recommend. My twins are 10.5 months and won’t take any paci that we’ve tried. The problem is we haven’t found anything to help them self soothe, so it’s a real struggle, especially since they don’t sleep well either.
Yeah for someone that doesn’t know much about this you did actually say why one is better. You just said where the babies mouth will go, you never said “and you want one like this because you want baby’s mouth to reach this far”
Came to the comments looking for this answer 😂 I even re watched for context clues and the way she referred to it as severe slope a d dead space, I would have thought the first one was the better choice, but she never explicitly said which one was better... Thank you for clarifying
You're just nitpicking. She went through both bottles' shapes and explained why one shape is not good, and one shape is idea. In this day and age, she really doesn't need to EXPLICITLY verbally say "____ is better". It's the context of the video, so if you watch it from beginning to end, it is very very clear which bottle nipple shape is the ideal for a baby's mouth. Your last statement shows that you grasp the primary message, too. So you did get the same answer I got from the video.
I breast fed my first born for 14 months. She never used a bottle and she never left my side for those months😂 Because we couldn’t find a bottle for her to properly eat from. We tried going out and my mom said she screamed and wouldn’t use the bottle. When I picked her up I was engorged and she got milk drunk.
Yes, but the gradual slope is the most similar to how a breast functions inside the mouth. You want that wide base and then for the nipple to reach back far into the palate so it’s similar to breast feeding
I used the 2nd one and it was an incredible bottle. He was born with a lip tie and we had extreme problems with breastfeeding. So I had to use both, and this bottle allowed me to keep breastfeeding him while bottle feeding.
Wish I had this tip with my youngest. Purely breast fed because she refused a bottle. So glad those days are behind me though lol. I miss her being small, but I don’t miss the pains of breast feeding 😅
The green comotomos are actually the only ones that worked for my son because he had a hard time latching to breast shape so it really depends on the baby
Oh for sure. Everything in baby land is baby dependant. But this is generally a rule that will work to find the bottle that in theory is best for a baby going between breast and bottle and developing those feeding muscles
Same… my 4 breastfed kiddos needed to take a bottle occasionally and como tomo bottles where the ones they would take and still be able to nurse without any issues switching between the 2.
im a daycare worker and i hate those booby bottles 😭 they are so hard to open and they leak everywhere if the baby drops it because the nipple gets smushed and starts shooting out formula
I'm not gonna lie, I've always stuck with Avent bottles just because they're easier to use and clean. I never have much thought to how the baby had to transition between boob and bottle. But it never seemed to be an issue with any of them. (I have 3.) 🤷🏻♀️
I wish i new this tip i spent hundreds of pounds (well felt like it) on different bottles till my than bf aunt brought up some MAM bottles her grandson had finished with, game changer! Best part they was like new!
MAM bottles worked best for my kids too! All were combo breastfed and bottlefed. They seemed to match my small nips/small boobs combo the most closely 😅
I’m hoping to have a baby in the next couple of years. Your videos always make me feel more confident and prepared instead of scaring me off from having a kid. Thanks!
Plus if you're using a bottle warmer for milk, the silicone ones take FOREVER to heat up. My favorite bottles (for ease/latch) while I fed 10 babies each 6 bottles a day were the Lansinoh. For my babies with reflux, MAM was nice. Tommee Tippee and Philips Advents work great for some kids and not so great for others.
This make so much sense! I never liked those first kind of bottles when babies would have them in the daycare I worked at but couldn’t explain why. At least now I feel justified in not liking them😂
Among my cousins and peers, I was the first to have kids... Prior to my own pregnancy, the only pregnancies i had ever seen were those of our dogs and cats...😂 Now when, we had to buy bottles for feeding, (i used to pump too), I had thought about this factor of suction. Mind you, I have studied physics and i love it. So i kind of was thinking about something that would help in suction and not cause tiredness to the muscles of the lips for the baby. So i used the regular long tapered nipple ones... My babies would switch easily between bottle and breast and i could feed them for about 3.5 years. Why i mentioned the peers/cousins fact at the beginning was that once the others started having kids, if i ever gave any advice regarding feeding patterns I was shot down saying "oh those are the old ways/the round ones are better/etc" Needless to say, their children were fed for a basic of 6 months and another 6 months struggling and that too irregularly. P.S.: I am Indian and not giving advice or helping your female family members during and after pregnancy is frowned upon. So it wasn't the case of unsolicited advice.
Very good observation, but babies are all human with very minimal differences in the mouth. While pets could be a different species (cat, dog, goat, pig, deer, etc) 😅
Yes because there’s a shit ton of different animals out there with different mouths, size, and shape requirements. Human babies really only need one shape. We aren’t a bunch of different species, thought that would pretty obvious or common sense
What’s the name of the bottle you are showing I’ve never seen it. We tried MANY for extra feeds between latching give me a break and never found one like you’re showing. He refused ALL bottles. Only the real deal for this little man. Thanks for all you do.
Can confirm the evenflo balance bottles are the best. Used them with my breastfed babies after trying at least a dozen other so called "breastfeeding friendly" bottles.
Oh less space! When there’s more space it usually is less likely baby will get a deep latch but the gradual slope with less space will allow baby to take the n!pple in their mouth to the base which is more similar to a breast
❤ mom of 11 who's breastfed and pumped with all of them!! Best bottle we have ever EVER USED is the boon nursh bottles not only are they made like your breast but they're convertible they turn into a sippy cup then a straw cup or snack cup and have pods you can get so 1 shell without having to wash can make up to 3 sterile bottles❤❤ BOON NURSH FOR THE WIN!!!!❤❤
This is so true, or it was for me and my two babies. They were exclusively breastfed and I started using breast milk in bottles while they were small to get used to it. Lansinoh bottles man. ICONIC!!
Yes! I had registered for nano bebe bottles. When I introduced them, his latch at the breast got out of sorts. Changed to Dr. Browns narrow and they actually support a natural latch! I always thought I had to have something wide-mouth but it’s not so!
I loved Lasinoh with my first born for that exact reason after trying many other bottle brands and didn’t bother trying any other brands for my second.
We loved those bottles for my half and half babies. I had to supplement in the beginning and then again when i went back to work and pumping didnt sustain my flow. Love them!
I have just a 3 weeks old baby and in his first week everything failed him. First was the system. I asked for breastfeeding help, as my mum had problems and I felt it might happen to me. Nobody listened that I have no milk supply. They were giving me a syringe with milk to give him and they were claiming that I have enough milk. It was wrong. The second fail was my milk supply. When home he was not able to feed from my breast as I expected and syringe was too little for him. He was constantly hungry. On the second day at home I started to give him a bottle because I was sure he was hungry. This was another, third fail. He sucked this bottle but no milk was disappearing. I had no idea what was happening. The tip was just like the one you showed on the first bottle. On the third day he stopped peeing, pooping and I saw urine crystals so I searched your video about them. Everyone was telling me that I am overreacting that the baby is in trouble. In the evening I called the hospital, and the ambulance came. The baby was not waking up at all even when they were taking blood from his feet. He was starving. He had a sonda through nose to feed him. He is fine and happy now. We feed him by a different bottle now and no problems. My milk supply dried totally but I don't care anymore. We both hated it, he still gets crazy angry near boobs, and I wanted to smash the pump on the wall before I gave up.
So which is better? You showed the difference and gave good explanations for both but I still dont know whick is better. Are they both good but in different way? I'm not trying to be mean, just confused.
I wish I had this 10 years ago when I was desperately trying to get my breastfed baby to take a bottle before her open heart surgery. It was horrible. In the end, she only had to take a bottle for 1 day in the PICU because I bothered them non-stop to let me try to hold her and nurse her. She was back to the breast in 1 day and was so much happier.
Very true... NUK used to make a huge binki like that and I LOVED THEM and bought 10 so i would be able to give my bfed babies (i nursed all 4 of my children) binkie or theyd want to pacify on my breast. I absolutely LOVED the huge NUK nipples but, cant find them any more. NUK BRING THEM BACK!!!
As a man with no kids and no interest in them at this point in time, which is better and why? I wasnt sure, but it seemed like the dead space nipple was bad but bot clearly stated. What are the long term effects of the baby on a nipple with a lot of dead space. And what of the mothers with real nipple resembling the dead space bottle?
I love how they never give bottle recommendations

Exsactly 😭
The one with the gradual slope. Triangle shape
That’s why it says on the gradual slope one that it will encourage those feeding muscles to develop similar to how they do at the breast
@@mamanursetina thank you
Loving these life skills classes 👍❤
Honestly the green one did fine for my son and it worked as intended, choose what works for you, not what people tell you online.
Yep, I agree 100%. But if there’s knowledge out there that might help that’s great too ❤
Loved the evenflo bottles for my girls! They where great at reducing gas as well without the 50 billion pieces!😊
I love this explanation
Thank you for sharing, this is gonna be a lifesaver!
new mommy to be here , thanks gworl 😊
Getting my baby to take a bottle was such a challenge! No one ever told me to expect it- we certainly were not ready lol!
Among my cousins and peers, I was the first to have kids...
Prior to my own pregnancy, the only pregnancies i had ever seen were those of our dogs and cats...😂
Now when, we had to buy bottles for feeding, (i used to pump too), I had thought about this factor of suction.
Why i mentioned the peers/cousins fact at the beginning was that once the others started having kids, if i ever gave any advice regarding feeding patterns I was shot down saying "oh those are the old ways/the round ones are better/etc"
Needless to say, their children were fed for a basic of 6 months and another 6 months struggling and that too irregularly.
P.S.: I am Indian and not giving advice or helping your female family members during and after pregnancy is frowned upon. So it wasn't the case of unsolicited advice.
Thank you imma know the best bottles to gift 🎁
I’m halfway through my pregnancy of my second child this time I’m breast feeding so this was helpful thank you
It's odd that the pet industry has so many different nipple options and sizes and the baby industry has like 4.
Could this also help the other way around, like with a mom and baby having latching issues?
What’s the name of the bottle you are showing I’ve never seen it. We tried MANY for extra feeds between latching give me a break and never found one like you’re showing. He refused ALL bottles. Only the real deal for this little man. Thanks for all you do.
I learn something every single time I see your videos!
Perfect!
Wow!!!! I’m the oldest of 11 kids and have THREE of my own, and has NO IDEA about this!!!!
Amazing! Thank you!
This is so helpful!
Had thay green bottle when my baby was little. It was the only one he would drink from, so i won't crap on it. Whatever works for your baby.
Can confirm the evenflo balance bottles are the best. Used them with my breastfed babies after trying at least a dozen other so called "breastfeeding friendly" bottles.
The mam bottles are the best for my child
The evenflow glass bottles look different! Can i have a glass recommendation?
Thanks. Appreciated❤
So which one? With more space or less space?
Oh less space! When there’s more space it usually is less likely baby will get a deep latch but the gradual slope with less space will allow baby to take the n!pple in their mouth to the base which is more similar to a breast
Face palm
What’s the brand of the better bottle?
That’s the Evenflo balance + wide. Lansinoh makes a great bottle too😊
Your genius ❤❤❤❤
ICONIC!!
I wish the evenflo balance had a silicone and/ glass option!
Please tell me the name of this bottle and brand that is recommended? I can’t find it online “. Thanks 🤗
That’s the Evenflo balance + wide
Yes! I had registered for nano bebe bottles. When I introduced them, his latch at the breast got out of sorts. Changed to Dr. Browns narrow and they actually support a natural latch! I always thought I had to have something wide-mouth but it’s not so!
I picked the rightbine! And i dont even have a baby. I havent even contacted a baby im years. I feel so smart.
I loved Lasinoh with my first born for that exact reason after trying many other bottle brands and didn’t bother trying any other brands for my second.
We loved those bottles for my half and half babies. I had to supplement in the beginning and then again when i went back to work and pumping didnt sustain my flow. Love them!
That make sense, thanks!
This seems so obvious, but I never thought of this! Such a good tip!
That's actually cool! I breastfed and my babies refused bottles. Not many options in 1996/2001/2007...
So what is the good one?
Great tip 😊
Wow i wish i would have known this or someone would have told me this when i had my daughter in 2019. TY for sharing this 🥰
So which is better? You showed the difference and gave good explanations for both but I still dont know whick is better. Are they both good but in different way? I'm not trying to be mean, just confused.
I wish I had this 10 years ago when I was desperately trying to get my breastfed baby to take a bottle before her open heart surgery. It was horrible. In the end, she only had to take a bottle for 1 day in the PICU because I bothered them non-stop to let me try to hold her and nurse her. She was back to the breast in 1 day and was so much happier.
Thanks for the tips . Applying that on next baby . Thankfully the first one was find with Dr brown
I've had 6 kids, pregnant with #7, and I can confirm this is very true.
Genius!
Wondering how much this bottle costs
As a man with no kids and no interest in them at this point in time, which is better and why? I wasnt sure, but it seemed like the dead space nipple was bad but bot clearly stated. What are the long term effects of the baby on a nipple with a lot of dead space. And what of the mothers with real nipple resembling the dead space bottle?
Now that's helpful
