  • My 1990 Citroen C25 (Talbot Express) Elddis Autoquest 270 motorhome had an MOT advisory for a worn lower ball joint. I got a new one from Coastal Motorhomes and replaced it ready for our next trip.

    Hi Alex remove the caliper from the holder then remove the holder then remove the disc .
    Red grease on the sliders after cleaning them.
    Nice work with the bal joint 👌
    Beauty 👍

    I did this job today and I found it a lot easier to remove the control arm and remove the bottom ball joint bolts and remove all in one

    Hi aleex. I found that having the van raised up enough to so both wheels clear the ground. Allows you to turn the wheel. That lets you get at all the nuts on the ball joint.. with a socket

      Sounds logical, I need some taller axle stands!

      Im cutting outt and replacing rusty parts on my 1999 fiat .with help from my friend. Its a big job so i had to remove the engine and one drive shaft. .so i took two wheels and put them under the camp er on both sides after chocking the wheels up at the back. it gives great hight to do loads of jobs on the van and with a defo safe feeling and the wheels and stering are free. To move..or you can just drive the van up on to some building blokes..the long rectaganale ones.placeing them two blocks high. with one at the front..thats a very cheap stand...great vidoes .i love watching what your up to.
      .did a key ignition the other day after watching one of yours..cheers..!!!!

    Hi Alex, to get access to those rear bolts you can turn the steering wheel.

    Great stuff Alex,Very interesting watch.U could try unbolting the caliper and put your pry bar in between the disc centre piece and the caliper, that's how I get them off.
    Thanks for sharing

    You could have turned the steering so that you could obtain excess to the nuts maybe.

    Hi Alex. We had the same experience, ordering from a .co.uk website only to learn the items were coming from Germany. We've received a message this morning informing us that the items have just arrived at the local distribution centre, this has taken around 4 weeks so far. I hope you get your bits sooner rather than later.
    A comment about your recent 'Stroll in the snow' vlog..........Looks like more snow on the way for you! Hopefully you'll get chance to film some of it for us. Stay warm, and well.

    • @ttxela
      @ttxela  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Crikey, I hope it doesn't take 4 weeks! Still, there seems to be no mad hurry for the moment to get the van usable. Yes, possibility of more snow tomorrow 🙂

    I would double check Torque setting of Ball Joint nut?? It don't seem tight enough to me?? Using the Clamps as you did is making the Caliper grip the disc MORE!! Try levering the inner pad, (piston side) inwards towards centre of vehicle, to give a little gap to allow caliper and Bracket to come off. If the Caliper sliders are not seized, where you had clamps, it should move out board giving you a bit of a gap both sides and whole thing should come off!! :-)

    • @ttxela
      @ttxela  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll see if I can find more information on that torque setting. It is a nylock nut pulling into a taper so may not need too much 🤔

    Hi alex good job .i see your discs are shot by the lip around the outside, it's always good to change discs and pads at the same time ,you can normally get good prices on pads and discs as a package anyway love watching your adventure hope your all fine ,,,,cheers dell

    • @barryellison1272
      @barryellison1272 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alex, you could have pushed the pads back against the piston(s) in the calipers. This would have made it far easier for you to remove the old discs. Incidentally, while you have the calipers off, give the pistons a clean with brake and clutch cleaner and a brass wire brush (never use a steel one as you can scratch the pistons with it. Thus letting brake fluid to get past.) You can physically force the pistons back into to calipers using the recommended tool, and you can also get them to move out by using the brake pedal. Be careful though because if you manage to pop the out it is not easy to replace them.

    • @barryellison1272
      @barryellison1272 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Push/force them back carefully using an old screwdriver. Try to lever the back plate on the pads rather than the pads themselves as this could damage them.

    • @ttxela
      @ttxela  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Derek, yes, pads are on order with the discs but coming from Germany apparently and not arrived yet!
