Love your QB breakdowns. I already sense, given what you've said about Daniels & Maye, that you've definitely got Daniels ranked way above. Now, would be really interesting to look at tape where Maye has a good game (at least statistically) and Daniels has a bad one (again, at least statistically) and see whether your findings do extrapolate over multiple games. Would like to see whether Maye continues to miss on reads & throws, and if Daniels continues to play well. Obviously based off of one game for each only, but from what you've said, the only thing I see that can be used against Daniels is his age.

Also, he will be 24 years old meaning he's not going to grow much as a player compared to Williams and Maye. He'd be lucky to be a first round pick
Drake Maye's career trajectory to me needs to be almost exactly like Josh Allen's. I don't entirely agree with that full on player comparison, but he needs to go to a team that can be a fringe playoff team in his first couple of seasons when he was almost certainly struggle. Will not be surprised whatsoever to see him look pretty bad in his first two seasons, but if the team he's on goes 9-8 one of those years and sneaks into the 7th seed, he starts to look pretty damn good in year 3 and 4 and his team starts getting 11/12 wins. The issue is if he goes to a team that is not good enough to win some games despite his struggles (cough New England,) and he looks bad while getting only 4 or 5 wins, then he's almost guaranteed to be a bust.

That’s where my mind is. He could be good. It would crush him if he went to a bad team and had to play right away. Mahomes went to a playoff team and sat behind a vet to learn.
While I agree Mahomes tape showed he could hit his guy anywhere on the field no matter what. That was superb vision awareness and arm strength. Maye drifts to where he’s throwing and also has to put a lot more into it to throw. Mahomes in college was a surreal talent.
Player analysis isnt for you. I feel like your brain is forced to be stuck on how good the player is at this specific moment and not on what they will become. His accuracy issues stem from bad footwork. That is an insanely fixable issue with proper NFL coaching. His team was down 20+ points so of course he is playing off schedule hero ball because he is the only person on unc with enough talent to bring them back. Saying he is a day 2-3 pick is just wrong flat out wrong.

As a UNC fan watching him all season, this was one of his worst games. Some of the risky throws toward the end were him trying to make a play because our defense couldn't stop a thing. I agree that things like the footwork piece aren't dependent on the circumstances, though, and he could definitely use some time to develop. I'm just hoping he goes somewhere with a good O-line because he never had that at UNC.

I thoroughly agree with all of your analysis, the footwork, and accuracy def needs work. The best possible spot for him to go would be the Vikings with the ability to sit behind Sam Darnold for a year or so to fully get the right reps with Kevin O'Connell. KOC has been good with teaching up QBs to establish their base/feet with timing and rhythm. It will take the right NFL spot with a good core/QB style coach that can coach him up.

To be fair tez walker and jj jones is no BTJ or Nabers, not even close. Unc also ran quite a bit with omarion hampton racking up 1500 yards rushing and 15 TDs. Commanders fan in DC Metro here… Haven’t even watched the full episode yet. Looking forward to it! And will send forward it to other fans. Based on the comments, THIS is likely what every front office will sound like when watching Maye on film. He is not a first round prospect. I’m not sure why anyone says he is. Terrible footwork, elongated throwing motion, and, no consistency. HARD PASS!
College QB like this guy who were just naturally bigger/better their whole lives end up being busts more often then not. I think that entitlement to god given talent shows up in the work ethic and stuff above the neck.
I remember 7 games into the season last year Packers fans were saying “time to tank for Maye”. Now I’m wondering what exactly they saw in this kid that Love doesn’t do better?
People keep insisting he's the #2 QB, but every time I watch tape of him, I don't see a guy who should be the second pick in the draft. I see the footwork issues and the accuracy issues. I think he can be a good QB, but you'd like to see either more polish or more upside.
The hit job on Drake is hilarious. Everyone is breaking down the NC State and UVA game and getting this guy totally wrong based on a small sample size of data.
I put myself in Kliff Kingsbury's position to pick a QB who's better than Sam Howell. My analysis was only Caleb Williams. Drake Maye needs another year in college, and forcing him to sit might help, but the mechanics in practice are easier than live fire. Jaden Daniels is simply an RPO one read QB. His arm is average.
Daniels is not an RPO one read QB from the film. He's just not getting to the last progression fast enough before taking off. They'll change that in the NFL over time. HIs issue is stature and durability as he'll get smashed in the open field too often to avoid injury. He's also playing against kids that are 3-4 yrs younger.
If Peter’s drafts Maye over Daniel’s it will undo all the good moves he’s made. Also Tim Hasselback’s hot take on Maye being the top prospect in the draft is ridiculous. Hasselback’s whole premise is that he is big and strong and has athletic older brothers that he competed with his whole life.
He's going to need a year of development and might look sketchy for awhile but Drake Maye will be avaiable to learn where Daniels could be assassinated on any given play. Daniels won't last as long as RGIII (Bob). By year 2 or 3 you'll know what Maye is...no way to know right now.
1. He WAS a sophomore quarterback 2. He has every tool in the belt plus character and charisma. Hard to see that mixture failing. 3. I hope NFL GM’s see it the way you do so that he slips to my team at 3.
I really appreciate this breakdown as a Commanders fan. A ton of our fans are convinced that Drake Maye is the unquestioned pick at number 2 but his tape doesn't match the hype whatsoever. People compare Maye to Herbert and Josh Allen but if anyone watches this breakdown you realize that has more to do with his physical traits then his actual Quarterbacking abilities. Allen, Herbert, Mahomes etc, all had flaws in their game when in college, the difference between them and Maye however is that they put up insane stats while having those flaws. On tape, Maye shows those flaws consistently and doesn't even have the stats to support that there might be something special underneath all the shortcomings. Whatever QB school he went to growing up was worth it, nowadays those dictate the level of hype you have all the way through college opposed to your actual skills as a QB.
Brother have you even looked at Josh Allen stats? What crazy numbers did he put up in college lmaooo? Maye had 78 TDs in 2 seasons. If you dont like Maye thats cool, but saying his stats weren't as good as Allens and Herberts in college is hilariously wrong haha.
@@user-lp4tx8vo5j I wouldn’t say I dislike Maye but out of the the top 3 QB’s he’s gonna need the most work to be an NFL starter. He would definitely benefit from sitting on the bench for a year but we don’t have anyone to throw out there for another season. I like Howell a lot but I don’t see them putting him out there for another season while Maye sits on the sidelines. Unless the bring back Brisett for another season, it’s gonna be Maye on day 1 if he’s the pick. Just don’t see that ending well for him or the team.
@@umariqbal7977 how is their tape better? Josh Allen is my favorite player in the league, but he literally had the exact experience as Maye. Crazy highlight plays but missed the easy throws due to poor but easy to fix mechanics. Maye has more arm talent by a considerable margin than anyone not named Caleb Williams in this draft
I would be curious to see Kurt break his own college film down, would he think he is more or less NFL ready than drake? Not that I think his breakdown is wrong or bad I love seeing this just curious how his film would be broken down since he obviously was never a starter
The more film review I see of Maye, the more concerned I become that the Vikings will sell the farm to get him with pick 2 or 3. Don't get me wrong, I see the potential but he needs a lot of work. I don't like the idea of dropping multiple 1st rd picks+ to get to the top 3 on a project. People keep wanting to label him the next Justin Herbert/Josh Allen, but I just don't see that now other than his body type. I honestly get more and more sold on the idea of JJ McCarthy for MUCH cheaper. All of the pros that people point out for Maye are the same positive traits for JJ. Big arm, athletic, can make all the throws, young with room to grow, etc. I think JJ is more consistent and comes up more clutch more of the time. He's just slightly shorter than Maye. That's really the big difference, 1.5" of height and 10 lbs of weight. Maybe I'm wrong, but JJ for me.
@tmenke88 Same, but if you think back a bit, Allen wasn't great his first couple of years either. Most of the current great quarterbacks have needed time.
Hes gonna go 3 overall to my Patriots, sit a half or the whole year behind brisett and learn. He definitely has some flaws but overall I like his game and think he could help us in NE.
Any chance we can get a comparison this is one game end of season - give us some gumption - by the way digging how you lay this out let’s use drakes best game versus gophers - I’m an eye test guy he looked average any chance? I do t need every play but at the time early mid season never bought the hype
Is it me or does he seem to lock in on a receiver from the start? On a lot of the throws the side he was facing in the beginning was where he threw it.
you picked the worst game of his career and some of the worst plays from the game. Of course he looks bad with a terrible OC and a terrible oc against a very good team. Drake is going to be the best Qb in the draft once he fixes his dropbacks.
“hes gotta be behind a QB thats willing to teach him [Jacoby Brissett] and a QB coach [TC McCartney & Ben McAdoo] and a west coast type scheme [Alex Van Pelt]” sounds like a fit on the Pats but it goes back to that opportunity cost … taking him to sit under a guy like Brissett while bypassing the likes of Harrison Jr or Joe Alt is a big yikes
I like Maye but this gm is way too hard to look past. It was hard to watch. He definitely has the tools but he’s not picking the correct tool at the right time.😂😂😂
Your analysis makes it sound like the Vikings would be the best landing spot. Former QB as coach, his high school coach (Josh mccown) as qb coach and a veteran with darnold to sit behind. He needs some serious time to work on a lot it seems
I don’t understand this mock’s since start, he’s actually not that good, it’s 2-3 day qb at best, but youtube highlights with like 2-3 good plays from each game confuses people. If I’m nfl team, i never spent 1st-2nd round pick to draft him.
Washington, just trade up and get Caleb since Chicago is obviously stalling, waiting for you to make a move. They're clearly satisfied w/ rolling out Fields as their day 1 starter. Almost no one in the league is itching to grab Fields. Just make the move for Caleb.
Nobody else find it sketchy that the guys he loves, Jayden and Caleb, he picked one their better games of the season to "break down" tape of. But he picks a meh or average game for Drake?
His supporting staff around him is terrible! Bro hes doing a dropback on a 3 man rush and the 3 man rush got to him instantly so like i get it but id be frantic behind a line like that as well.
“If he goes to a team that’s not good? It’s going to be a disaster.”😂

Awesome. Subscribed
Goes at pick 8 to the Falcons and sits behind Kirk Cousins for a year or two. Ideal situation.
1. He WAS a sophomore quarterback
2. He has every tool in the belt plus character and charisma. Hard to see that mixture failing.
3. I hope NFL GM’s see it the way you do so that he slips to my team at 3.
Hahaha go ahead, have at him. He’s not polished enough to make it in the NFL, simple as that.
HTTC i feel the same way…. He doesnt match his hype
@@user-lp4tx8vo5j ooof I’ll take the correction, should’ve said insane tape lol.
It’s been said many times maye is a bit raw but he’s compensating for the lack of talent at North Carolina.
Pats will ruin this kid. Shocking thing for me is his arm looks so weak, he never has zip on his balls. Everything's a softie
Watching this as a pats fan rn. Does nc state have the super bowl field from two years ago? Every receiver/rb is slipping and sliding lmao
Any chance we could get a vid with a good Drake Maye game? this game was atrocious
I really hope he doesn’t end up on the patriots, I think they won’t help him develop. Vikings with Kevin o Connell would be perfect
I would be curious to see Kurt break his own college film down, would he think he is more or less NFL ready than drake? Not that I think his breakdown is wrong or bad I love seeing this just curious how his film would be broken down since he obviously was never a starter
Not a single person breathing oxygen thinks Maye is going to fall to the second round... cmon, bruh
exactly
This is by far his worst game tho, so it’s tough to know his true potential based off of this game alone
Drake Maye is so overhyped. If I were drafting, I would NOT take him. I would take McCarthy in a second.
Interested to know if your opinion has changed on him at all??
Ok not a great start but can we talk about how he has someone in his face every single play it feels like?
he explains how he drifts into the pressure alot
NFL will most likely cleanup his loopy wind-up throwing style.. But it also seems he likes to show off his cannon-arm when its not needed.
I do t need every play but at the time early mid season never bought the hype
just curious how do you access college all 22 film? thanks
Can you break down Jackson Arnold next
Drake Maye is a 3-year project QB with some high-end traits, but he's definitely not a top-5 pick. Maybe a top-20 pick at best.
Is it me or does he seem to lock in on a receiver from the start? On a lot of the throws the side he was facing in the beginning was where he threw it.
Can you break down Michael Penix next
you picked the worst game of his career and some of the worst plays from the game. Of course he looks bad with a terrible OC and a terrible oc against a very good team. Drake is going to be the best Qb in the draft once he fixes his dropbacks.
Good stuff Kurt as always your knowledge of the game is amazing brother you should definitely look into coaching you’d be a great one !
He definitely has the tools but he’s not picking the correct tool at the right time.😂😂😂
This whole video could be titled "Yikes. The Tarheels were terrible"
If I was a team looking for a QB, I'd take Kurt Benkert in the off-season over using a draft pick.
Your breakdowns are fantastic! Sub'd! Thank you!
Alabama game for Jayden was arguably one of his worst games.
All the games picked were actually just against good opponents.
Leave it to the commanders to draft him at 2 , why is he so hyped
Poor man's Will Levis. Trey Lance pick top 5. Maye is not ready.
How much to come manage my Dynasty teams
😂
He looks exactly like Carson wentz
He definitely has the tools at 6’4 and a strong arm to be a great qb but just has too many issues to be a top 5 pick
I haven’t watched a ton of Drake Maye, but I definitely remember being much more impressed than here. This was not one of his better showings.
Agreed, should've stayed another year in college. Gonna be a disaster in the nfl if starting in his first year.
Michael penix, Bo nix and JJ mccarthy?
His supporting staff around him is terrible! Bro hes doing a dropback on a 3 man rush and the 3 man rush got to him instantly so like i get it but id be frantic behind a line like that as well.
He’s high potential mid floor
