We've had a KKCS for six years. She's a doll. Never chews on anything wrong, rarely barks, loves to cuddle. But she is never left alone for more than a few hours, we limit her food and watch her weight, walk her 2-3 times a day, and play chase, tug, or fetch with her every day. Wonderful pet. Our experience matches the points in this video. Well done.
We have had 3 miniature dachshunds over the years and then got a female Cavalier. By far she was the best dog we ever had, even though we referred to her as our "lemon" because of all the health issues. We had her for 11 years but finally had to put her down due to heart problems. Spent $22,000+ over 11 years and we would do it all over again.
We just put down our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who lived 15 years. Our dog never wanted to sit on our lap. Our dog was afraid of everything. I didn't understand this. We never mistreated her, always showed love to her, but she just didn't fit the mold. I didn't know why.
We got our CKCS for only 700 bucks used to be 800. He is the joy of my life we are training him not to bark like when he does at nothing lol. He barely barks and loves all my friends (im a minor lol) love him to the moon and back
I am lucky to have two. We got our boy first then after one year we surprised him with a little sister. They absolutely adore each other. That is after she stopped hanging off his lip, he let her get away with it for a couple of weeks then told her enough now. But she is still his baby sister and he lets her have the best spot. He is 9 and she is 8. And he is cuddled up with me right now. But he will move if Rosie wants to come over.
My husband and I have had 4 Cavaliers over the last 18 years, and are getting a Cavalier puppy in December. They're not nicknamed "the comforter spaniel" in vain - when I broke my ankle and went into a deep depression, our Cavaliers never left my side, especially Lucy (who was "my" dog😊), who lay in my lap for the 8 weeks I had to sit on the couch with my foot on the coffee table. We collect other people's socks when we have a puppy in the house. The socks don't smell like we smell, so as the puppy matures, she isn't inclined to chew our shoes. We do classic obedience training with our dogs, which makes them welcome wherever we go. As for being guard dogs, they've all been terrific. A villain doesn't want any attention. Our dogs have barked at the sound of a knock or the outside doorknob turning. Guard dogs don't have to be big and menacing - they just have to be noisy.😁 Thanks for this video!
I agree. Cavaliers are great guard dogs, as long as the threat stays outside the home. Once the threat in, s/he becomes an instant friend. 20+ years experience here.
I own Cavalier. 2 years old. Mine has weird habit at barking at any I mean any type of animal on the TV. In fact he intently watches TV. I love him, he is adorable and very prone to licking if given a chance
It's not weird. every one that I've ever known has barked at dogs and other things on TV. I think they think they are protecting us. My current one isn't much of a kisser - what a relief! 😘
I own a Cavalier King Charles and this video is so true. A good snack/treat for mine is a frozen blueberry (low cal) or an ice cube. No matter what you eat they want some 😂
I purchased a Cavalier King Charles in February from a rescue. He came from a puppy mill as a breeder. He just turned 3. He has turned out to be a perfect loving companion for me. I enjoy his personality and care he shows me. A few things I wasn't ready/use to..sheading and he wasnt trained to walk on a leash. Fortunately, there is a rock area where he does his business right out my door. I need to purchase a harness and really dont know the best for him. He's a bit bony in his chest area..so I wanted a soft material in that area for him. Any suggestions?
We own , wait, Winston owns us! Lol. He’s our second. Angel was our first. Exact opposite of Winston. Both were adorable and loving. We would get another. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
My dream pet has always been a cavalier, although I have never had a pet before, I felt that they were the best breed for our family, my parents agreed, and we have been planning on getting a little cavalier puppy, but my parents recently found out after researching that cavaliers are extremely prone to heart problems, Although I have found out that they do not really get bad till they are old. Im really hoping that things work out, I would love a little cavalier more then anything! (Fingers crossed my parents agree!)
$600? Really? Was s/he health checked? My least expensive one was $1500 @ 2 y.o. My current one was $3k. His breeder now wants $6K for a pup. Pups from a reputable breeder are easily $2k - $6k in CA.
1/3 cup 2x/day. Please do not feed her only once a day. They have small stomachs and cannot go 24 hours on one large (2/3 cup) per day. A few treats per day is okay. Didn't your research or your breeder tell you any of this? Was your pup cleared for her eyes, heart, hips, etc? If you have not already had her spayed, the current wisdom is to wait 2 years before spaying.
It absolutely depends on the food that you are feeding. I highly suggest reading labels. We feed ours once in the😮 morning and evening. About a half a cup each feeding and he weighs about 20 lb. We also feed a really high quality food that cost about $100 for a 25 lb bag. Lots of raw ingredients no fillers.
20 lbs. is a lot for a Cavalier. Healthy weight is 13-18 lbs. He will most likely develop joint problems. Two 1/2 cups a day is too much. Only feed him 1/3 cup 2x a day and limit treats. @@_Pelagikos14
Well, my cocker spaniel teaching bad habits to my little Cavalier she loves blueberries frozen though and she loves loads of cuddles and it’s so sweet and loving but she barks and chases cats not to hurt the cats , we have cats and she likes to chase them
My Flora is 13 years old. She's sweet and clingy and an expert at chasing bunnies from under rocks. Like too many Cavaliers, she is now in stage 2 MVD and has syringomyelia but is otherwise doing amazingly. For a Cavalier, she's been very healthy, especially considering she was a puppy mill breeder rescued at 3.5 years old. When young, she ran $800/year; she's now up to $4k/ year, and her heart med alone is $2/day. So please factor those expenses in if you're planning to adopt a Cavalier. But if you're home a lot and can afford it, you'll never find a better dog.
Cavies *think* they're ferocious but they're too cute to be taken seriously. I had mine (service dog for PTSD) at the local police station recently. About 10 officers came out of a meeting room near us at once. Every single one, on cue, went "Awwww . . ." Mine "protects" me from all suspicious noises in and around the house. Have you noticed they don't even have discernible hackles? Your dog; What a Good Boy!
I had the best dog I’ve ever had and now she’s gone. The Cavalier is worth the money, the time spent with them , etc.. they are the best. They give more and more, the more you love them. I’m Loki g for an older Cavalier as a puppy would be harder for me at my age.
@@thecagdot that’s a shame. Probably need to look at a springer spaniel or something instead. I know they’re more of a work dog so should have plenty of energy. I just thought my kids would like the cavalier better.
How are things going? Is this your first Cav pup? If you have any questions, please ask your breeder or this forum. I will be happy to answer any questions. I have 22 years' experience with Cavs.
This is the most ridiculous post about Cavaliers I've ever read. If you can't afford or don't have time to feed, love & and care for a pet, don't get one.
Hi I had a cavi Tri colour Ben he was a loving sweet daft bundle of fun he has now sadly passed away a few years ago you don't own a cavalier they own you 😊!!!!
They definitely are! My two Cavaliers were raised with cats and our cats loved them. The cats would cuddle with them. Get a puppy and if they grow up with cats, they will be the best friends to your cats.

Yes ,owe the Cavalier King Charle for 12and 4 months. He was the best companion but sadly he passed away 6 days ago. Leaving big hold in my hart.
Our condolences 💔
I am so sorry! I lost mine last year. He was a champion Blenheim and my service dog. I don’t think his hole in my heart will ever be filled.
He was 15.5 years old.

This is highly unusual behaviour for a Cav. It must have been a personality issue . .?@@jamesbush5675
I adopted Yonce in Dec 2019 , I had never heard of the breed and honestly feel BLESSED, she gives me purpose ❤❤

One important thing about Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. THEY ARE THE BEST BREED EVER. Zero aggression mega affectionate. Can’t live without one.

What do you call expensive?

This dog is my family. ❤
Your caption says Rottweiler at the beginning of this video.
Number one
You will fall in love with them❤
Guard dog no but my guy will put himself between me and anyone or anything that looks like it might hurt me

Are they good for the elderly?
Yes they are. They’re moderately active and would work well with someone elderly.
Yes. A pup will usually be rambunctious but then they settle down. They just want food, water, toys and you. especially you.
Yes.

I am not sure. May be you tell about other breeds, same size and friendly
My cavalier has been the easiest dog I've ever had. I have chickens and he's never chased them. He does chew shoes though and he was expensive...
The only downside to my little boy is that he chases my chickens and he will sit on top of one and pluck it if I don't catch him quickly enough😮😢
Just curious, where did you get it and how much? I'm in CA and mine have cost between $3K and $6K.

I’m a runner. Can you take them running? As in say a 10km run.
They’re small dogs and although they can take moderate exercise, intense exercises like that would be too much for them.

@@murphyebass7837 herding breeds maybe (ex, border collie)
No. Although they were used as hunting dogs in the distant past, their little legs cannot keep up through an entire 10K run. Maybe try a 1K run?
No, except for maybe a jog to the mailbox. They cannot handle anything more, in general.
I have one 7 months old

I disagree. Mine isn’t bothered with the hamster at all.. and is absolutely fine being left alone. Best dogs ever
This is rare. My current spaniel is fine being left alone for a while but, in 20+ years, he is the only one.
When Ollie sees a bird, he is GONE…..
in slovenia it is 700$😂
Had to stop half way in. Things nobody tells... really? They are expensive? Not a guard dog? What nonsense. I'm out.

We lovers of the breed call them "Velcro dogs".
Are they good with cats? I won't get a dog that isn't. I will put the cats' safety first forever and always.
They definitely are! My two Cavaliers were raised with cats and our cats loved them. The cats would cuddle with them. Get a puppy and if they grow up with cats, they will be the best friends to your cats.
