The problem with any screen of size is that it will in most cases cause buffeting behind the screen. This is due to a low pressure region behind the screen - reasons for this are fairly obvious. A low pressure region will cause air to want to enter the region (a suction effect due to the low pressure), but once it does that, the low pressure is cancelled out and the suction ceases - which causes the low pressure region to re-establish.
There is one way to prevent this, and this is by creating a channel for airflow. I did this to my multi by adding an MRA Xcreen (this is a small deflector screen which bolts onto the front of the main screen. There are other brands too, they probably also work but haven't tried them). The deflector screen allows variable position and angle, and all it takes is to reposition and angle it through trial and error until you have an air channel directing the air over your head.
I have done this successfully with :
    my multistrada
    my wife's honda 750
    my brother's triumph cruiser
    and his harley v-rod
All work perfectly through to typically 170 or 180 kph. My multi is good through 200 kph and even above.
I am sure there are other solutions for this problem, but the deflector screen solution is so easy and guaranteed to work, I never look further.

Trevor, many thanks for such a detailed and personal account of your bike and experiences. I am waiting to take delivery of my new 2020 Ducati Multistrada 950S having moved away form a Harley. Looking at more country trips in the new year of 2021 around Australia. Having come off a Road King with a great screen, taking the MS950 for a ride, I really noticed the wind and already ordered the touring screen via Ducati as part of the bike purchase. I like the Palmer adjustment although I may find it difficult to source in Australia. Love how you have accessorized the bike, well done. Michael

Thanks Michael, much appreciated. I hope you enjoy your MTS 950 S, it’s a great bike! Space I’m fairly sure that Palmer products would ship to Australia although the postage might be a touch excessive! Have fun.

Greetings Trevor - thanks for the commentary. I just purchased a 1260S and am curious as to the solution you found for the seat. Love the bike but I'm looking at the Corbin seat as an alternative. I commute in Los Angeles and the way the seat slides you into the tank is a definite no-go for me.

I put an order in for one of those Palmer screen mounts today. Went off to a Paypal account. Not had any kind of email back to confirm order so hoping it's all still in business :-)

Good to hear thar you found a screen that you like. Looks awesome... I have a PP carbon. Not much wind protection, however I don't ride on the highways much.
I also have an Airhawk seat cushion... could ride for hours with it. No need for anything else. You don't like your Airhawk?

Ducati Dude thanks DD.. Don’t get me wrong the Airhawk works fine, but only gives slight relief from numb bum syndrome! Maybe I’m looking for the unicorn solution! But I’ll keep looking anyway.. 👌

Interesting review Trevor. I have a 1260s and hate the wind buffeting noise with the original screen. Also looking at trying a Puig sport, but noted a comment below from kneeman 7 about the taller version. I too am 6' tall. I also agree with the terrible seat shape on these bikes, I found myself being forced forward with the seat gradient leaning into the tank. I actually had my original seat reshaped then had the front and rear recovered to match. Best modification ever. The bike is so much more comfortable and no weight on my arms and wrists at all. Might be worth finding a local trimmer and working with them. I found it cost about 70% of a replacement seat too.

I just bought a 2018, and Biggest problem is the seat, how did you reshape it?

  • @kneeman7

Get the taller PUIG screen. I have the one in your video in black and the taller in smoke. I only use the taller version. I am 6' and there is no wind buffeting at any speed unless I lift my head up a couple inches higher above the top of the screen. I have a Sargent seat. It is very comfortable, much more so than the Corbin brand. Only issue is be sure not to drag your boots across the seat getting on and off the bike because they can leave some scrub marks that can be hard or impossible to fully get off.

I tried the Puig touring screen and the wind noise was just unbearable. I ordered a Givi + MRA- X screen. I am trying to follow the setup referenced per the video below. I hope it works. th-cam.com/video/iXtBsNtbNco/w-d-xo.html

Maybe take a look at that screen. On the seat, I have now got the Ducati comfort seat for this bike. Still not that comfortable after a while on it though. I think part of the problem is that every seat seems to want to lean you forward. The comfort one less so than the stock one but still only marginally. Be interested to see what you try out and how well they feel on longer rides.

MGY ---> I found that with the Airhawk seat cushion the seat slide is a non issue. I place the front of the cushion where the seat meets the tank cover... very comfortable with no forward slide...

Have you tried the GT touring screen from Ducati. I'm 6'4 and it works perfectly for me. I have it on the highest setting for motorway speeds and no problems bar a draft hitting my armpit areas. I also wear a module helmet which isn't a drama on the lower setting when just cruising around.

I got the Ducati comfort seat. It is little bit better than the stock. If you want the most comfortable seat, then Russel is the way to go. You would have to send them your original seat though and they are based in the US. Please find the link below. I hope this helps. day-long.com
