Hi Mate just wanted to ask my 1260 enduro is poor in town does the rear sprocket change make a difference?
I’m not sure what the sprocket set up is on rye Enduro, but the standard 1260s is 15/40, I added two to the rear (42 teeth) and it made all the difference. 👌
I'm thinking of getting a 1260s multistrada and I'm just wondering how much you have spend on the bike in total ie servicing and things breaking/faults not including tyres tho if you have any idea that would be great because all i here is you need deep pockets to own one. Cheers
Hi Jon, the bike has been remarkably reliable. Outside of the standard maintenance and consumables (tyres, brakes, discs) I’ve only had intermittent sensor issues which needed replacement (O2 and accelerometer) clutch lasted 45,000 miles, 2 fork seals, headstock bearings 40,000 miles…and I’m still on my original rear brake disc! (88,000 miles at time of writing).
@MouldyPIX nice one thanks for that
Hello i have 2014 Multi 1200 it also starts late. İ am at55550km iş it becaouse out bikes arena kitle old or its really characteristic? Also your videos are great i love them. Thanks ...
Multi owner for over 12 years and always been a michelin fan boy but never got more than 2.8k miles out of any rear. I was thren told to try conti RoadAttack 4 and got 4.5k miles out of the rear .. lets be honest we all wear the rear 1st, and never failed in any condition. that to me makes a massive difference in miles to cost , give them a go and thank me after 😏
…just fitted a new set of Road 6 GT’s …might try the Conti next time…👌
Thanks for the great vid Trevor, keep them coming.
🐐
…welcome to the Channel Will…❤
Would be interested in knowing what your gearing is. I'm running 14 40 but still think that's still too high for everyday riding.
Hi Simon, I run a 15/42 set up, very usable now at 30mph, good pull!, but lose a little at the top end…but I never get close to that limit!
Hi, you have great detailed videos. Would it be possible to have a sprocket combination 14/42? Just want to ensure it's a smoother ride around small Welsh or English villages..
Tomorrow morning I fly from North Pole Alaska (home) to Seattle Washington. Monday me and the wife ride out of Seattle to Phoenix Arizona, not a big ride, approx 1,500 miles on my new-ish to me low mile 2018 Pikes Peak Addition. My first real ride on this one was was a 700 mile ride to see Mom on Mother’s Day. Thanks for the video much appreciated!
It's a bit quiet 😢
. On the Western Front…? 🤷🏻♂️😎
i am thinking of owning a 1260 s . i am worried a bit for maintenance costs. Also how is the fuel consumption compared to the 20lt tank of the bike always in touring speeds 70-80 mph ? Thanks
I’ve averaged 50mpg during my time of ownership…
I guess you have answered this question many times, could you tell which engine / crash bars you have fitted
No worries!. SW Motech guards and EVOTECH Performance for most of the other components..
Hi Trevor I've really enjoyed your content, so interesting and informative, I sold my Honda cb500x and bought a 2021 950 multistrada with 1,500 miles on the clock I honestly have stopped smiling, all on the strength of your videos, what shines through is find I guy you can trust to service bike and build a relationship, and keep the servicing up to date, also it must be testament to your riding style that means that the bike is so straight Regards
Wow, that’s amazing feedback…welcome to the Ducatisti family…!
Interested to hear what pressure you are running on these tyres ?
I run 34psi (front) 40psi (rear)..
I looked at the Triumph Tiger, Bmw gs., Bmw XR. I took the ducati st2 for 78000 miles. I raced the S1000rr. I was truly open to any bike. At 60, Im 6'4", 265lbs. I wasnt thinking there is no bike I really liked. I was about to hang up my helmet and my buddy suggested the multi. The multi was my match. What windshield do you prefer?
I now use the Puig Sport screen..and mainly in the lower position.
My recommendation: front Power 5, rear Road 5. Great handling for solo sporty or with wife and full luggage. Front 8-10‘000km, rear 7-8‘000km. I ride the tyres close to the edge. Work well dry and wet. I made 18‘000km with this combi. I will try now front Power 6 with rear Road 6. And yes, I can destroy the tyre within 1500km (or less), former Super Biker.
Hey Rolf, that’s an interesting combo! To be honest I’ve never ridden with mixed a tyre set up. However I’m pretty impressed with the wear on these Power 6’s so far. The rear has 3mm left and the front has 5mm left after 3,500 miles! I’ve just ordered another Power 6 rear as I think I’m going to get an even 2 x rears to 1 x front wear rate. 👌👌
Hello! I am trying to decided if I should get a 2020 1260s with 7600 miles. Apperantly the fork seals have been replaced and the owner said he tops of the oil.. didn’t really mention how often.. I’m worried if this is an issue with this particular bike or a “ normal” thing for this bike.
Hey, that’s really interesting regarding the front forks. I’ve only ever had one set of fork seals replaced in over 80,000 …and never heard of anyone periodically “topping up” the oil. A 2020 with 7,600 miles on it shouldn’t need any topping up of fork oil with such low mileage. Did you buy it in the end?
@@MouldyPIX no i ended not. I wasn’t comfortable with that story!
what about handelbar vibration please, i have a hand problem with vibration
Maybe add some heavier duty bar ends? Personally I haven’t had any issues with handlebar vibrations.
Great video. Says a lot for reliability. Thank you.
New subscriber, thank you so much for doing these video series. Made me super confident in my recent purchase of a 1260 Pikes Peak. This is my first sports tourer and a bit worried on the tyres. It has a new set of Metzler M9RR which I guess is comparable to the Power 6? I don't do mega mileage so not too concerned on how long they last but worried about doing mild off roading as I will be going on to campsites which will mainly be grass and gravel. Have you had much experience in this? I know you said previously you don't like off-roading but I imagine you've done the odd bit over 80k miles! I'm more worried about it in the wet with it being a bit of a heavy bike and I'm quite a short guy!
Hey Tony, glad to have to along! You’re right I don’t do much “off-road” riding, but when I do the bike is awesome, switch it over to “Enduro” mode and away you go. I recently rode the Kielder Forest trail in Northumberland which was awesome..along with my brother on his BMW XR…both bike coped with that sort of trail without any issues at all…
What about oil consumption? My MTS "burns" 200ml ever 600 miles
..yeah that about the same for me…nothing to worry about..👌
Hi Trevor , fantastic video , like your long term ones, question - not sure if you have mentioned it on one of your videos - have you installed a spacer on the throttle ? If yes which brand ?
Hi Kris.. Yeah, I’ve fitted the spacer…! It was my very first mod and featured in the very first video of this series..🤣
@@MouldyPIX- super thanks for the response , I have ordered it from Ducati spacers .
Hi ! I just I bought Multistrada 1260s from 2019 with 14 000 miles. I know that is powerfull V-twin and it likes to stay above 3,500rpms but…below that 3,5 rpms when i open the throttle, whole display i shaking like crazy :/ is that normal ? Thank you for your videos !!
Can I ask if this is your first v-twin? Yes, there are vibrations if you open up and go full-throttle from say 2,500 rpm, but I wouldn’t say it’s excessive or any different from say a KTM SAS or similar.. How is it if you roll on smoothly?
Hi, I’ve got a 2014 multi with Road GT 6’s. I love them. They’re due for replacing, could I expect the same sort of mileage with the Powers? Is it worth changing to them? Thanks.
Hi Luke, I’m loving the Power 6’s, done 1,500 miles on them and down to 4mm..😳. Not unexpected but I’d say only 50%-60% of the life/wear of the Road 6GT…
Any issues with the Road 6 pulling to the left? A few reviews have mentioned that and it's put me off from buying them. I've had R5 before and found them really good, but lacking some feel/feedback.
Hi Zak, that’s an unusual one! I’ve not experienced it though…👌
Mine is doing this
Just had to take off a pair of Pirelli Angel GT2, horrible horrible tyres, dangerous
What did you replace them with..?
The GT version just has a stiffer sidewall. If you have a pillion, carry a full case, or both then it would be a good option. The actual compounds are the same as the non GT version
Michelin road 6 for example is good ,but design is bad ..and that is" puncture magnet "all michelin is little bit on hype...Try Metzeler...that's is another level ...
Agreed on the puncture magnet!
Interesting I had to drop from standard 200 rear to 190 so could go back to my favourite Michelinroad 5 Used them on track on a street triple 675 cooked them . wouldn’t use road 5 on a superduke on track but great road tyre . Had Michelin power 5 on last wasn’t either one or other not long lasting . I used them on track on the duke wouldn’t use them on track again .
Can I ask what tyres you do use on track now?
@@MouldyPIX i only took the super duke on track once had I power 5 which I used on a tour I got almost 4k m out of them . They needed a bit of warming up on track not the grippiest felling tyre simulator consistent as s22. But S22 feel like can be pushed more to my track ability limit and rossos 2 and 4 . If only riding on the road then road 5 or 6 never used 6 is ideal Don’t need warming up . I’ve only toasted them on track when it was 36c day started to get gooey at the end of season. You never get that. Sort of heat in Them on the road .
I got my Multi V4 Rally with Pirelli Scorpion Trail II s and was very satisfied with them. With the Scorpion Trail III not available for the V4 Rally yet, I now, (after 19000 km) ride with Michelin Anakee Road s. So far I am also very satisfied with them. I am looking forward how much miles I will make with them.
Sounds like you ride a lot more off road than me! 🤣 I managed the Kielder Forest way a few months back..but that’ll do me for another year..black to the tarmac for me! 😆😆👌
@@MouldyPIX Well....☺ the tyre is advertised to be a 90/10 tyre. I use the 10 part occasionally for gravel roads but nothing more serious. When I watch the TET and ACT folks struggling to keep alive, that can't possibly be fun.
Hi Trevor, quick question: I find that my bike (exact same model and year with yours) appear to vibrate a little stronger going up an incline at the same RPM. Vibes comes through the foot pegs band they smooth out once the incline ends.. Have you experienced anything like that? Mine has been doing that since yonks ago but everything is still holding up after 5 years.. =)
That’s very interesting Kelvin because yes I have exactly the same problem. And to be honest it’s driving me crazy! Both me and my mechanic friend - Andy at L2 - have been trying to resolve it for months now. I’m just awaiting for a “Ducati” branded front 15t sprocket and a new chain to be fitted. I usually use 3rd party sprockets (15/42) and a DID chain (Z-VMX 530 116-link), but this time I’ll fit a new chain (another DID Z-VMX) with the Ducati OEM sprocket to see if that sorts the issue. Up til now I’ve changed the rear sprocket carrier cush rubber bolts as a couple of those had cracks in them, but that didn’t wholly sort the issue. Once I’ve sorted it I’ll upload another video, but do let me know how you get on!
@@MouldyPIXahh… I don’t feel that lonely anymore! Let me know how you get on! But to be fair, I’ve only had one set of chains and sprocket change thus far but I’d be keen to hear if it works for you mate!
Thanks for your review on the PR6 GT Trevor. With the front supposedly lasting longer than the rear, Id have to battle my own OCD whenever it comes to replacing the rear! It is also surprising you get similar rear mileage compared to the non-GT version. However, I think I will give it a go when Michelins start to appear in NZ. Current ETA is somewhere October but hoping my tires don't go 90 degrees to the square! Again, your reviews on high mileage 1260s also gives me (and hopefully others) a shot of confidence. Keep up the good work and looking to see more of your videos
Great video.very informative.btw what means HT leads? I had a crack in the rubber tube to upper MAP sensor. Caused also misfire. Not easy to find but a cheap error. I drive a 1200DVT from 2015. 60000km.. regards from Austria
Hi, the HT (high tension) leads are the cables from the coil-pack to the spark plug. The front cylinder lead is exposed to the weather much more so than the vertical cylinder and is prone to corrosion and cracking. I’ve had to replace the front HT lead twice now.
@@MouldyPIX thanks for your information. I got a bad misfire at very high revs +8k. Now i ordered all 4 HT leads. In your case it was always the main cable on the front cylinder? Could you visually see any problems on this cable? Thank you and regards
Amazing Trevor , your content on the 1260 is probably the best when it comes to long term ownership, coincidentally I have just ordered a pair of road fives for my 1260 pikes peak as the rear (Pirelli Scorpion trail 2 ) had developed a flat spot after a recent trip to Wales . I based my choice in part on your recommendation, my mate who has a tracer 7 may choose the power 5 as he wants more grip in the Twisties , I will let you know how we get on. I am also getting the front and rear break pads done - brembo pads, expensive but hopefully they will last long , I have done 1k miles after having bought it in Nov (it had 5400 on the clock then)
Many thanks Chaitanya, much appreciated. Look forward to your feedback with the ROAD 5’s..👌
I only like Michelin tyres they are the best end of
You are the best youtuber when coming to multi 1260s. Im from Brazil cheers for your content.
Many thanks, very humbling… ❤
Ahhh the tyres... Never one right answer is there... I have to say that I've tried many over the years and I think the Scorpion Trail tyres that came as standard on these bikes are still the best choice for me. I do way less miles than you however and probably more weekend twisty rides than longer journeys. It's always about the finer differences rather than the bulk similarities. I've always just found the Michelin tyres to be a 'little' more wooden in the bends and develop a slightly triangular profile if you push them in the bends more than the covering the miles over time.
HI Trevor, just chanced on your video, starting with the comparison between the XR. I currently own the same bike as you (marvellous machine) but looking to change to the '24 S1000XR. But seeing your videos, I might just change my mind. Do you have any feedback on the PR6 GT? I was on the normal PR6 and went to the Pirelli Angel GT II, which gave me quite a bit of low speed wobbles, most noticeably moving off. I've been wanting to get back to the PRs but there appears to have some dealership issues here in the Land Of The Long White Cloud. However, word's on the streets is that supply of Michelin tires will be back within a couple of months. Wanting to hear how you feel about the PR6GT and their longevity. Bike has now done 43k kms over 5 years and I've had to have a shim added during the Desmo. Other than a failed quickshifter and an oil leak due to a worn top gasket, the bike is absolutely flawless. Which makes it really hard (and now with your video) to make the change to the BMW; cannot find a compelling reason to change. Keen to hear back!
Hi Trevor, Great to hear from you again, thank you so much for your super informative videos. May I ask you a question please? I’ve got a six day trip planned on my 1260s to the Black Forest and Vosges Mountains, solo, but was wondering what your luggage set-up of choice would be? I see you were using the top box in the earlier part of this video, but was wondering if the two side panniers and a tail bag may be better to keep the centre of gravity lower? Have you got any view on this please, considering you seem to do many continental tours. Appreciate any tips, Thank you, Paul.
Hey Paul, sounds like a great trip! Both the Vosges and Black Forest are two of my favourite regions. I was in the Vosges a few years back with a few mates, we based ourselves at a super Moto Hotel in Bussang (Moto-hotel Col de Bussang) run by Dimi and his wife - highly recommended. They’re a Dutch couple who opened a few years ago and some of their friends designed some tour routes which are on their website all with .GPX files etc. make sure you take in the Grand Ballon! I also did the Deutsch Alpine Strasse route last year through the Black Forest through to Austria, again awesome! For both these trips I packed pretty much the same, both were 7-8 day tours. In the past I’ve experimented with the Kriega system, using both the 30ltr and 20ltr bags stacked on the pillion. But to be honest I’ve pretty much binned them, too much hassle getting them on/off. So my setup now is to use both the standard top box and side panniers. I also have a couple of SW-MOTECH tank bags. For day-to-day use I use the PRO DAYPACK (5l-8l), but for touring I put on the PRO CITY DAYPACK (11l-14l). But more recently I’ve also been taking my Kriega 25l backpack to keep my Scott Waterproofs in (as I much prefer touring in jeans and my Klim Marrakesh jacket) and some waterproof gloves etc. In the top box I keep all my clothes/shoes and overnight gear plus iPad chargers etc, so when I arrive at the hotel it’s a simple case of opening up the top box and pulling out one bag! In the right (smaller pannier) I tend to keep all my tools, battery tyre pump, chain lube, oil (usually 2ltr), coolant (yes I take 1lt of coolant 🤦🏻♂️) and wheel nuts socket (v heavy!). The other pannier I use for my camera gear, drone etc, it also has spare space for the odd “purchase” I might make whilst away!! 🤣 Anyway that’s pretty much how I load up for most tours now, you’ll find a big difference in the handling of the bike once it’s full loaded, but you can still push the bike in the corners it’s amazing how the Skyhook copes with extra weight. However when I was last in the Vosges for a few days we took our luggage off and went for a proper blast..so good without the extra weight! Have a great trip, I’m sure you will…and let me know how you get on! 👌👌👌
Hi Trevor, Thank you very much indeed for the detailed reply. Your luggage set up is pretty much what I’ve settled on as well, I’ve agonised over other options and have also tried the Kriega pack on the pillion seat. I like the security that the hard panniers offer in that you can lock them up when stopping for coffee etc safe in the knowledge that they’re more secure than soft luggage strapped down. They do add a fair bit of weight, but I guess that’s the trade off. Also like you I’m a massive fan of my Klim Marrakesh, along with a pair of Rokker jeans, they’re just so much more comfortable and nicer when you stop for a break. I bought a pair of the Knox gloves with the Boa system you recommended a while ago, also really pleased with those. Thanks for the tip on the hotel to stay at, I’ll take at it look with interest. On this trip I’ve bought the route from Simon Weir so I travel from place to place-place, covering around 200 miles per day. I’ve amended and fine tuned in My Route App, so it’s good to go. Really looking forward to it, head off at the end of July - probably scorching hot! I’ve been ruminating over a Kriega Hydro Pack Trevor, do you use anything like that on your tours, or do you just rehydrate once stopped? Once again I’d like to thank you for taking the time in putting your videos together, having the same bike I’ve found them the most useful resource online. Keep up the good work mate, All the best, Paul
Hi Trevor, I had viewed these series of videos before buying my 1260 pikes peak, super helpful info. Question on the tyre choice - i currently have pirelli scoropion trail tyres but the rear its on its last legs. I heard you mention that you were about to put Mich Road 6 on your multi - would you recommend them? I mostly do dry riding , sometimes some spirited riding on the b roads, but do want the tyre to perform if I run into rain etc .. - would love to hear your thoughts
I’ve run Michelin Road 5 & 6’s on the bike ever since I bought it. The Pirelli Scorpions were awful (IMO!), so I would have no hesitation recommending the Road 6’s or Road 6 GT’s. However I’m just about to post up a short video on the Michelin Power 6’s which I fitted recently - now done 500 miles of dry running and I absolutely love them. Very different to the Road 6’s which is a bit of a surprise. Keep watching, I’ll try to post up in the next few days to explain why! 👌👌
You certainly got your money's worth from this bike, which is just as well, as I imagine it's probably worth around £2k now with 80k Miles! if anyone would even buy it, so let's hope it continues to look after you for Years to come 😁
I have a 1000DS and it always run it on Pilot Powers it rips on my local North wales roads
I’m loving my new Michelin Power 6’s - 500 miles on them…little video coming v soon! 👌
Good video 👍
Thanks 👍
I'm 28, and I have just sold my 1200GSA 2019(after 4 weeks. It wasn't for me) and am in the process of selling my XSR900. I've narrowed my next work hourse down to the 1260S or S1000XR TE. Then no idea what I'd have as a summer toy. Could you explain the service intervals for the 1260? Is it every 9k for a general service and 18k for its big desmo service? Thanks and love the channel.
2 great bikes, so you’ve got a hard choice my friend! My brother has an XR, so check out the “head-to-head” video I did last year if you haven’t already! You’re correct, the 1260s service interval is 9,000 for an interim “oil/filter service”, usually fairly inexpensive. Then the 18,000 (or 5 years) for the full on Desmo service where the belts are changed and the valve clearances are checked - circa £1,000+ Good luck…and let me know which bike you go for! 🔴⚪️🟢 (obvs..🤣)
@@MouldyPIX Thanks for the reply. I'll definitely keep in touch. If the 1260s reviews are anything to go by, that'll be the choice. I think coming from a GS, torque is important.. saying that, who doesn't love a screaming I4. I have 2 test rides booked next week. Have a great weekend.
So no shims needed 4 times in a row what a waste of money having them checked ,a dealers con saying they need doing at all
So it is possible 😅 a ducati with many many many miles. i own a MS DVT myself and its a great bike. Nice windscreen can you tell me which one it is?
Fab bike, can’t see me riding anything else for quite some time! Th screen is a PUIG Sport - light smoke version.
Trevor did you put standard gearing on ? or are you still 2 teeth up on the rear . I did the +2 rear (on your recommendation ) and I love the transformation of the bike , I also changes tire but I was going with the new Metzler Roadtech 2 and I am for now happy the are wery grippy and easy to change direction on ,and the should also last long ,but we will see .
Yeah stayed with the 15/42 sprocket setup, it’s perfect for this bike IMO. I had a mate who tried a 14/42 setup it was wild! ..but he’s since changed back to a 15 front set up! 😎 Glad the recommendation worked for you ! 👌
Just replaced my Michelin Road 6 GT's on my 1200S, were good for 8000 miles, being replaced somewhat early ahead of another Spain/France tour. The previous Pirelli Angel GT 2's lasted 5000. Fitted Power 5's on my Hyper, the rear lasted only 3000 miles before becoming very squirrelly in the wet, lovely and sticky but since replaced with Road 6's.
Cheers Red, yeah I don’t have any expectations that the Power 6’s will last more than 3,000 miles should be fun though!…they get fitted tomorrow 👌👌
There was a Multistrada 1200 at auction there, with 96.000mls...highest Ducati mileage I've ever seen!

I have a 1200DVT 2015, approaching 50,000 miles, FSH with Ducati, three tours of Europe. New front seat and fuel sender, otherwise just wear and tear parts, running road 5 and third set of sprockets. don't have finances to travel atm. Still rides like new, amazing bikes. Good luck for 100K 👍🏻
What sort of security do you add, when travelling abroad ?? Thanks Gary.
…just trust the locals! In all the tours, miles and travels I’ve done I’ve never once had a problem. Just my experiences, but obviously take the security you deem necessary…
I was getting worried Trevor not hearing from you , thought she had died 😣 glad to she lives 😅🤣🤣🤣👌👌👌
