Well you have progressed my skillz immensely. So that I thank you for.. Sir your generosity is a dying breed! I'm sure I speak for 99.9% of the people as well. Keep rockin' bro
Hey J I don’t know if you still come back these videos but I got a question: Would you still be able to mix a record with shorter bars into another record with more bars? How does that work out! I been coming back to your vinyl tutorials while I been waiting to save up for my second 1200 to complete the set, therefore it’s been entertaining and learning visually from your knowledge! Much appreciated!
we all have haters in this life. I have a few who live up the road from me, but i don't hate them, i just think they are very stupid ignorant people who have no idea about "giving and forgiveness" makes life more interesting!
Yup me too, been spinning for ten years or more, and I learn new features or products not to mention new techniques daily. There is a million ways to do something right and I'll learn till the day I die!
once again, informative and entertaining. Keep up the good work! Thanks again for what you do, making these videos must be a decent commitment of your time. Much appreciated.
great tut - thanks for that man. But what about mixing from the end of one song into the start of the next? same deal I guess but the counting the bars would be different
Johnathon that was a good tutorial. I've not used Vinyl before. Always been a cd dj myself. But now i'd love a pair of decks myself.. I've got the space. Though i do need a better mixer. I'd love a lottery win about now.
Hey J! Still Love your videos. But I've nearly watched every single one of your videos, so it's not soo very new for me. I would like it if you would post more videos like bsr; talking about the psychologival aspect - especially about the "crowd reading". Continue what you're doing. Much Love from Austria! :)
that sucks it so hard to come by for you man, i feel for ya. i wouldn't know what to do with myself if i didn't have 3 record stores within thirty min of my house. id go nuts if i couldn't get my hands on vinyl.
i like the way of mixing vinyls but what about the keys of the tracks? we should find the exact tracks 2b matched together. Nowdays technology has been given us many other possibilities!
This vid really makes me want to bust out the old stanton's... just a shame vinyl is so damn hard to come by these days, especially in Australia :( Good thing is if you want to try hard enough, you can emulate the sensation to a certain extent with a decent MIDI controller, but the appeal just isnt the same (sigh) So glad I had the opportunity to learn this fine art before moving to a digital DJ setup :)
Yo just started DJ'in, mostly into UK house n Garage music, I can see where your coming from with counting but I don't bother do that, instead I make sure the pitch is within '3 (as you do), same genres and beat-match then wham! I'm in control and make sure both tracks in time before cross fading. It's a wicked skill and I respect vinyl Dj's better than MP3 or CD Dj's as it involves more skill and way more manual than allowing computers to do work for you. I learned to mix by listening to Underground music stations in Chicago and the UK before basically copying the DJ's. i'm not the best DJ around but I woundn't say I'm the worst. Is it imperative that you always have to count before a mix?
Jonathan, love the new camera angle, we see better what ya doing! next, get HD video! Why not use the iPhone5 of yours for that angle! and a low angle with a head shot of you for explanations, of course you'll need to time the videos, but nothing a strong hand clap can not help you with! :D
good insight for beginners but come on...do they know what a BPM is? And keys, for me its about buying new records and testing them out to see how they sound together. For me its trial and error. :) But big respect for the tutorials, and it will definitely help beginners :)
no its 8.33% not bpm.. +-100% is increase of a full octave. 100%/12keys= 8.3% per key. Different song have different bpm and will result in different key.. ex. song with 20bom need to increase +20bom for full octave. song with 80bpm need to increase 80bpm for full octave.. // btw thanks for the link. useful
+hallobaaaby hes not marking the beats but the bars, so for every bar theres a line. the fifth bar consisting of four beats like every other bar, for simplicity in counting he simply crosses through so he always has sets of 5 bars. doesnt matter for counting if they are in sets of 4,8,16 etc or 5 since hes just calculating on paper... do you get it? hes not putting 5 beats per bar as you can hear him count. just for easiness in counting he writes them down in this manner.
pietz911 Thank enormous for taking time to explain! lol i think i'm slightly retarded though, because when i watch him count, in the middle of his first counting his 'One...' is not falling in the beginning of the musical/rhythmic phrase but in the middle of it, i even thought that the youtube vid has its sounds lagged from the image the way they were often coded in the past. then at the end of his first counting section his 'One...' fals precisely on the start of the music/rhythmic phrase as it should. UNLESS, you are saying that he simply adds numbers in his head when they are in groups of 5 (decimal system) so he disregards melody/rhythm structure completely, except for the end of the section so that he stops on time (even if it is in the middle of a 5 group. Which is funny because in this type of music everything is so symetrically stuctured using 4 (or 8) that one just got to be carefull not to miss fill in or break or transition bars...anyways, for him probably is easier counting in fives. Cheers!
La música se mezcla cuando yo dj quiera y punto, sin contar nada eso es natural y siempre he hecho bailar en las fiestas. Eso de contar es una tontería para los que somos de los ochentas y noventas, Chao

Amen man!!! You sound cool saying this. And sharing your knowledge is awesome. Always give something back. When it's about music, it's all about it.
Thank you for sharing your passion and making these videos for all of us to learn from and/or appreciate.

i like the way of mixing vinyls but what about the keys of the tracks? we should find the exact tracks 2b matched together. Nowdays technology has been given us many other possibilities!

lol dude which do you have more of, silly hats or dj equipment?
ellaskins is back! :)
Mokum!!! ''where's the hardcore????
Thanks for lesson!! I dont understand why scratching each bar as if you add a fifth beat with each scratch when each bar has four beats, not five?
+hallobaaaby hes not marking the beats but the bars, so for every bar theres a line. the fifth bar consisting of four beats like every other bar, for simplicity in counting he simply crosses through so he always has sets of 5 bars. doesnt matter for counting if they are in sets of 4,8,16 etc or 5 since hes just calculating on paper... do you get it? hes not putting 5 beats per bar as you can hear him count. just for easiness in counting he writes them down in this manner.

What with the wig? Great tutorial though
What about digital vinyl's? That's how I do it nowdays.
Best way is to count to 4 like he's doing I learned like this and also having the same record on each turntable and just playing with pitch
How come you rode the pitch up and down quickly. I usually ride it slow =)
Not sure why you always count in bars of 4 beats. Cut the work in half by counting in bars of 8. Makes a ton of sense to do it that way.
Because that's how music works pal. 4/4 time signature.
ledgend !
6:48😂🤣😁
6:47 !! Hi is my MASTER of all ^^
What vinyls are these??
dude do u still use the z2?
I'd never be able to mix with vinyl
Wish I cloud beatmatch like that
Of course people who have no feeling go for CDJ's :)
This looks so Much harder than normal CDJs and DDJs glad they come up with those
Smh
That's spinning Vinyl is an Art!! Don't be lazy
beat matching was pretty tidy!
MOKUM!!!
Jay-Z said.
That 5th line kind of messes everything up though
6.47
I cannot remember EXACTLY but its something like adding 8bpm will increase the key....google circle of fifths people
La música se mezcla cuando yo dj quiera y punto, sin contar nada eso es natural y siempre he hecho bailar en las fiestas.
Eso de contar es una tontería para los que somos de los ochentas y noventas, Chao
6:47 made me laugh
