DJing is so fun and a great way to keep creating and sparking new ideas while taking a producing or musician break. Combining techniques of all 3 on a track is awesome

Great video, man! I've been watching DJ mixing videos, and they are all very electronic/dance beat-matching oriented... this is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for sharing your process. I have a lot of ideas now.

What, Jorb is a DJ? Well I have to give you some credit now that you started to spin records. I like your style of gear discussions because I feel like you are hanging out with a friend explaining a piece of gear straight from your head about something you love. I honestly can't stand a lot of gear reviews because I'm a dj first and always was and I like music that I can play for people, and not some synth noodling weird stuff. It was interesting hearing you explaining all the small details. I did think... oh yeah that's how it is. Well I'm glad you did it, got some decks and are giving it a try. I got into electronic music by going to parties and spinning records and the gear came much later. What got me started was not just going to parties but also some dumb luck. I already had a bunch of classic rock, metal, etc records and a turntable and one day my landlord told me there were some old turntables in the attic if I wanted them. Ironically one of them was identical to my old Kenwood with wood grain, only this one was grey. So I went to a pawn shop and bought a mixer, then down to the record store and got a pair of headshells and carts and that was all it took to get hooked. It took a lot of exploration because youtube wasn't around in the 90's and the competition between dj's in Detroit was so intense that there was no sharing of knowledge. We had to figure it out by doing it. It's a long process, learning muscle memory and the physical coordination, but it's rewarding in a way that's more like learning the guitar or an instrument. CDJ's and software just did not have that feeling, but I understand the globe trotting dj didn't want to haul a lug a heavy crate of records through busy airports. Have some fun with the 12's if you still have them.

Are you able to use the send/returns on the mixer to effect pedals for interesting transitions? I would love to pair a Habit or Mood pedal to a DJ set!

I just did a ~5hr set for new years eve!
I recorded a bit of it, but don't think it fits in this channel... Considering a second one!

Just to combat vinyl playback and turntable setup disinformation, Anti-Skate has nothing to do with the stylus skipping out of the groove. Anti-Skate is LR channel balance. Specifically, as the stylus traces the spiral groove inward on the record surface, it is always moving inward. This creates an imbalance where one side of the V shaped groove wall (the outward side) has slightly higher force than the inner wall. The Anti-Skate creates an ever-so-slight outward pull on the tonearm, which is supposed to counteract the inward pull on the cartridge and render a balanced L-R channel picture.
The thing that keeps the stylus in the groove is Tracking Force. The acceptable amount of downward tracking force varies from cartridge to cartridge. It's very possible that you did not have a DJ cart installed, or the tonearm counterweight not adjusted properly to create enough downward force on the stylus.
At any rate, if your cart is hopping out of the groove, it's a Tracking Force issue, not an Anti-Skate issue.
