      I enjoy mowing the yard if I am using one of my vintage mowers, but can't stand to mow with a modern mower. I get the boys to use our modern mower that I inherited from my Dad.

    Cool toys! I love listening to your little history lesson about different brands. That water pump is a great addition.

      Finding a Homelite pump in like new condition with the original box, tools and hoses was an excellent find for me. Junk collecting is a fun hobby, and knowing the history just adds another dimension to the hobby, and being able to use the items collected is icing on the cake !

    I got a smooth cut on my lawn, yesterday. I had let it grow out to much due to the rain we have had, recently. I cranked up my Snapper SPX 23.5 horse tractor, set it to cut at four inches and mowed it down. Finished up with my Snapper Ninja mulching mower and Husqvarna 28 weed eater.

    Tuesday is my favorite TH-cam day. Always looking forward to your videos. I’m 73 so some of your old “junk” doesn’t seem old to me. 😀

    Planted my winter garden, today, with a Troy Built cultivator that I saved from the junk heap. I rebuilt a lot of it and replaced or repaired some more things.

      It is most satisfying to be able to fix stuff rather than have to buy new crapola every time one needs to do a job. Bet you agree on that.

      @@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 the crankcase on this four cycle was filthy, as was the fuel tank. I put an ounce of kerosene in the crankcase and ran it for a while. I dumped the oil out a total of eight times before it came out clean after running for 15 minutes. I sprayed Super Clean in the gas tank and hit it with my hose with a nozzle on it and blew it out good with compressed air. Both the crankcase and gas tank are as clean as I can get them. The first time I tilled with it - it had to burn off the kerosene and Seafoam I had in the oil but after that it did not smoke a bit. I used Briggs’s30 HD in it. It only holds 3 ounces of oil (90ml), so it is a real cheap oil change. I put a heavy dose of Seafoam and Startron in the gas tank to get rid of any remaining moisture from the cleaning.

      The Homelite was a neat find for sure. It has the hoses, box, spark plug wrench, special wrench to operate the valve on the pump body and also a parts manual. Only thing missing was the owners manual, which had been lost years before I scrounged up the pump. Another interesting piece of junk on the homestead !

      The alloy decks are nice and light, but they are brittle, and rocks can damage them. Most alloy decks became aluminum, so as to cut costs. Thanks for the nice comment and for watching.

      Some of the mowers need some repairs or restoration, which I hope to do over the winter. I would suggest you look at some of my older video's. I have done some on my 1955 Craftsman, my FLYMO, and a couple of LAWN BOYS, out mowing.

      Thanks for watching. The pump is a real minter, and was an excellent find. I do have a complete Lawn Boy Loafer, but it is a ways down the road before I have time to work on it. A very unique idea for a lawn mower !

      I have just got mine running, and looking forward to doing some tree work. The wrap handle is nice, as I can cut from either side when dropping a tree, something most small saws are not capable of. I think they are sorta rare.

    I had one of those Clintons on an old rotary mower that looked like a bathtub turned upside down. The front wheels were beveled to the inside. It had a jack shaft with a belt drive.

  • @johnclarke6647

    I would like to see a 1955 Toro reel mower with a 5 HP Briggs, I believe, on it. I pushed one of those around the yard for years until I made sure it broke. It had belts that were suppose to propel it but most of the propel I had to provide. I swore if I ever found one I would turn it into a boat anchor but would not tie the anchor rope to a cleat on the boat. All I remember is it was red and had a black motor on it.

      It is interesting how one basic design that was used by many companies, didn't work too good and others did a great job. My lawn is too uneven to use a reel mower, but I do have some in my collection. I have a REO, Cooper Clipper, Eclipse and a Sunbeam just for the heck of it.

    Early Homelite chainsaws were belt drive.

    • @mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156
      @mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most early saws were gear reduction, as the motors weren't that powerful, so one could run a big chain and a fair sized bar.

    Lot of chainsaws were belt drive in the fifties. I've got a 1957 Clinton torn down that's belt drive.

    I have pump envy. Lol I have 2 of those but they don’t have the external tank. And they aren’t that nice of condition. That ones like a 9/10 and mine are about a 7. I have a couple of McCulloughs I could trade for something. A 610 and a 310x2. Shipping probably makes it not worth it I’m in bc Canada

      @mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Homelite pump is a keeper. I would never find a nicer one, and it ad's diversity to my Homelite collection. I have plenty of the Mac 610's, my favorite work saws, and I have a number of the mini Mac saws I use on a regular basis also. Shipping to Canada is terribly expensive also. Thanks for the offer though.
