- Step back in time with us for the ULTIMATE TOUR of The TWA Hotel at New York's JFK Airport. At the centre of the hotel is Eero Saarinen’s iconic TWA Flight Center, where restaurants, bars and retail outlets have taken flight. Two hotel wings, designed to reflect and defer to the landmark TWA Flight Center, sit behind the historic building and contain 512 guest rooms with views of JFK’s runways and the TWA Flight Center. There's also the Classic Solari split-flap message board with authentic original mechanical operation manufactured in Udine, Italy and the world's biggest hotel gym: a 10,000-square-foot fitness centre
We'll take you on a tour around this magnificent building from the bedrooms that overlook the runway at JFK then onto The Paris Café where chef Jean-Georges serves his specialties and The Sunken Lounge where you can drink in the spirit of the glamorous Sixties with retro cocktails and swizzle sticks once enjoyed in-flight. The onto the Food Hall where you can enjoy timeless treats! The TWA Hotel serves grab-and-go fare for your entire crew.
Take a look around A Lockheed Constellation "Connie" L-1649A transformed into a cocktail lounge. A 1958 Connie airplane - which served as an Alaskan bush plane shuttling supplies to Prudhoe Bay and a marijuana dropper after retiring from TWA! - seats 75 guests. Connie serves cocktails and light snacks. Try the Vodka is My Co-Pilot, Connie's take on a martini.
Watch from the rooftop infinity pool and observation deck as jets take off for faraway lands while you relax with a cocktail and a swim, it's cool and refreshing. In the winter, it turns into a pool-cuzzi and is heated up to 95 degrees every day! Our Pool Bar serves mile-high cocktails and delicious fare year-round.
There's also a mass of Nostalgia that will take you back in time. A flight attendant’s log detailing five years of airborne adventures. Vintage furniture from the TWA headquarters. In-flight amenities - gilded playing cards, silver serving ware - from a more elegant era. These are just some of the items showcased at the TWA Hotel. The New-York Historical Society - founded in 1804 as New York’s first museum - curated the exhibits, which are free of charge and always open to the public.
Located in various spots throughout the former TWA terminal - the heart of the hotel - as well as in our event centre and in the areas that connect our hotel flight tubes to JetBlue's Terminal 5, the exhibits allow visitors to experience the Jet Age through authentic artefacts, interactive displays and personal narratives.
Exhibits focus on TWA’s history - including Howard Hughes’ tenure as owner - and Eero Saarinen’s development of the terminal at Idlewild Airport (as JFK was formerly known). The offices of both men are recreated with period-perfect details, inviting guests to imagine themselves at Saarinen's drafting table or behind Hughes's desk.
Visitors can explore 37 full TWA uniforms from 1945 to 2001, original TWA travel posters by David Klein and large-scale TWA artefacts (a luggage tug!). In an authentic recreation of a 1962 living room, guests are encouraged to try on retro fashions, admire an original Barbie Dreamhouse and enjoy the far-out furnishings. Future exhibits will delve into the dawn of the Jet Age in NYC and the midcentury modern design movement.
This iconic building which has now been transformed into an Aviation Geek's Dream was also used as the backdrop in the movie Catch Me if You Can starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.
Take off on a guided tour and also back in time to the 1960's. Sit back, fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the movie.

Wow lee this is the best Vlog I have ever watched from you! I have been a plane geek since the early eighties, my parents regularly took me to Newcastle Airport so I could watch the planes and collect the postcards of the different airlines, many dont exist now, British Caledonian, Orion, loved it and you and Martin have a great ambience on screen keep them up xx

Arguably, the “BEST” video on TH-cam regarding the “TWA” hotel. Nobody can replace the “Silver Fox”. I’ll be staying there in October but it is “pricey”, however, it’s only marginally more expensive than other area hotels. Nice video.

Mac I have a short story, but when I was in rehab in 2017 my dream was to go to NYC, I was at deaths door when I said I want to get sober and go up the Empire State, if I remained sober, I would take myself there. In April I am going, and I am staying in this hotel for my first 2 nights. It is booked (booked today) Watching this video again now to get myself excited. I will rewatch some of your NYC videos as a guide. This is my dream trip, but I know your videos will help plan my 10 days. Terrified of flying too, but your videos have reassured me its fine, I will be fine. Flying is fun even if i get dodgy food it will be fun 🙂

The memorabilia was awesome especially the old record player with the Buddy Holly album, and it was only just down the road from me that just outside clear lake IA is where Buddy Holly's plain went down where we lost Buddy and Richie Valens and the Big Bopper after it took off from Mason city airport

I must have travelled through that terminal when arriving on one of the first flights of the TWA 747 service from Heathrow to JFK but my recollections have faded.

As a "miliary brat," we flew back from England to McGuire Airbase/Airport, February of '63, on a USAF Connie. Flying up in the upper air, wasn't too bad for the time we were travelling.

That is a brilliant building and its so great its a survivor. I'd have thought in the States it would have been knocked down and replaced with a godawful Mall or Casino so top marks for the developers.
I once stayed at a hotel where in the hotel next door they had a powercut so the one we were in accepted guests from the one next door for meals and to the bar..... there was a training course for a certain national carrier which had lots of cabin crew - I was in my early 20's unmarried and its a family channel so I will say it was fun and leave it there

I think this is your best to date. Admittingly I am a self professed aviation geek but this is up there in the top five along with the Vegas Burger stream and the worst restaurant in London. getting your bottoms slapped in Vegas was hilarious. Yes, I am also one who had passed through the TWA terminal (when it was active) on my way to destinations overseas.
[There too is footage of the terminal shown (in its glory) on an episode of the 1970s TV series "McCloud."]

Your best destination ever…….I spent year after university as British Airways crew in the 1980s. Level of detail in TWA hotel is what makes it. Flying in those days was actually a pleasure. Great vlog - 15 out of 10. But not sure about the Mac Master budgie smuhhlers.

I wondered how that would work. And what a marvellous view too! A really entertaining vlog, Lee and Martin! The TWA Hotel (ex terminal building) does look amazingly redolent of the sixties/seventies era of jet setting. I hope that roof top pool is heated in the New York winter! Now that could be something for you and 'The Silver Fox' to try out with a glass of Jack Daniels for insulation!
