    Tesla put in a long range battery exchange in a shorter battery car. So the driver got a better range. Somehow Tesla found out and using their software REACHED OUT from the office and disabled the long range capacity. What I don’t like is a stranger being able to come into my personal vehicle and changing things without my permission. This never happens with a gas car. I’m not a fan of the climate change hoax. In a free society there are no mandates, only choices. In the US, **absolutely*……The power structure cannot sustain this over demand and they must know it! I think they want to leave the global population without power. Thrust us back into the dark ages. There would be no cell phones or communication.

    I made a policy decision to buy a now 15 year old Bentley a couple of years ago ; it’s got zero screens , it’s not being tracked by a satellite as all new cars are , because I’m pretty sure the next thing will be automated tickets for going 31 in a 30 and inadvertently crossing a bus lane . Best of all petrol is still widely available and even though it likes a drink I don’t have to worry about getting to Whitby and back !

    They clearly will introduce a subscription model.

    EV’s are not the way forward.

    Tesla has been doing the same thing. They started doing audits and removing Auto-pilot if you did not pay. There was a big issue in the US last year over this. On New Toyotas, you get one year free of remote start then have to pay $8 per month. BMW in another country (don't remember which one) was starting a subscription for heated seats.

  • @robthompson819
    @robthompson819 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Lee,
    if Porsche messed up in the first place and has given you a feature on your car, in my opinion they should leave that feature as is, yes let you know that you’ve been given something you shouldn’t have had but that’s not your fault. This is very poor customer relations on the dealership’s behalf (Porsche Nottingham) because you purchased the car from them and they are liable for the cock up.
    So in a nutshell I would throw the keys at them and go to another manufacturer through principal

    I have used a Skoda (VW) Karoq 1.6 td SE-L for last Four years, Motability lease. Down payment was £795. Now it’s £2,000+ and only version they do is for the petrol engine. Fuel consumption mixed use is 53 mpg (UK gallon). Motorway, keeping ahead of the trucks at 56 to 60mph returns 68 to 72 mpg.
    Even with Diesel fuel at £1.79 a litre it’s cheaper to run than ev charging on a motorway service area. No doubt they’ll overcome that by increasing the tax on diesel.

    The silliest thing about this is that to enable it again as a goodwill gesture would have cost them nothing at all. So greedy of them not to do this especially as they lose now, due to some bad publicity. This kind of feature is common on much cheaper EVs, and indeed on keyless ICE cars as well. It's nothing special and nothing really clever these days.

  • @RogerTheInsomniac
    @RogerTheInsomniac 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    My suggestion: Go back to the retailer from whom you bought the car. If the facility was on there - and you made use of it - and were not told it would come off - when you test drove it and agreed a price, then a facility has been stolen by Porsche or a Porsche dealer. I would send a letter before claim to them, advising that a facility has stopped working while under warranty and you either want it reinstated forthwith at no charge to you or will claim the cost of putting it back via another dealer via the small claims court. Edited to add that I know that a loyal dealer from whom I have bought many cars would take the hit (and likely get the marque to write it off, after all marginal cost is zero).

    Ha .....LOL at the EV protagonists out there who just don't know what is coming.
    Lee, it's this simple mate. What you have discovered is just the beginning. Stick with me on this will you because I have thought this through very carefully a few years ago and this is what our future will look like IMHO. All the signs and indications from all authorities back me up.
    Your right to drive your vehicle will be swiftly taken off you and EV's will facilitate this.
    It will start with the introduction of smart electronic signage. Your vehicle will be controlled by curb-side signalling which will initially control your vehicle's speed. For instance when you enter a town you won't be able to drive above the set legal limit until you exit the town and then it will be controlled by the next set speed limit. It won't make any difference how hard you press the accelerator pedal, nothing will happen until you are allowed to go faster.
    All EV's in the future will be able to drive themselves and follow the smart road signage which initially you will be able to override, just as you can today. However, your insurance cover will quickly flip to only covering you in driverless mode and if you want to be covered to drive yourself you will have to pay a massive extra premium. It won't be long before no insurance company will insure you to be in control unless you are on a private road or track event. Infact it will become the law.
    That's when you and everyone else will see no benefit in car ownership because there will be no enjoyment factor anymore. The authorities will provide the electronic driverless cabs which will be everywhere and an app on your mobile will be all you will need to access them for every journey you make which will be automatically billed to your account.
    If you want to be free to travel anywhere you want at will and at whatever speed and at any time of the day or night you will have to own a bicycle which is what the authorities are preparing for already with bicycle lanes everywhere. If you think you can get away with an electric bike....think again because already authorities are planning to provide these too if they havent already done so and they are also planning a licence plate for all private electric bikes.
    Your freedom to privately own your own vehicle and to privately travel wherever and whenever you want to is going to be taken from you. You will be monitored all of the time.
    EV's are the beginning to the end of your freedom to own and drive your own vehicle wherever you want to.

    just started the video, but sounds like the BMW subscription crap I heard about a couple of months ago from the states.
    2016 I went around the dealers, and bought a new car. Financially stupid, but I had the money and wanted the experience of a brand new car. Dealer was shocked that I refused every single option that involved the internet. Why? I want my car to be dumb. I have unlimited internet on my phone, why pay for car offers "WiFi" (£xx a month) when my phone has unlimited data?
    It came with "full European maps" and Europe wide AA recovery. So I drove to Rotterdam with a 3 month old car. Sat Nav sucked, swapped to Google maps and found the destination. None of the "in 100 metres, make a U turn" shit I'd had on the way. I was on a motorway FFS and definitely heading in the right direction. Road signs, remember them?
    Another bugbear, go to a Ford dealer. They flipped the driving position but the radio and other controls are perfectly aligned for the passenger to see and use. Driver? Nope. Didn't even bother with a test drive.
    This became quite ranty, sorry. But fuck it, I'm in a pub, being pissed is expected.

    This is NOT just an electric car issue! any connected car or for that matter, washing machine or kettle can have features added or taken away. One person reported that the heated seat option that he had fitted suddenly became a pay monthly service! pos bmw? - this is the same as any modern computer / tablet - features can be added and can be taken away. As for Ownership you do not own the software that operates the car or computer - you will have agreed to a license to use it and you will have agreed to the terms and conditions which allows them to update the software.
    This is just the start boys and girls (and anybody else - don't want to discriminate..) there is no way to avoid this with modern vehicles unless you go for something very, very basic which doesn't have features to remove. This is the beginning of pay per play and it will be installed on all connected vehicles not just the electric ones. Its an on going revenue stream they cant afford not to use.

  • @marcusherold8356

    How short sighted of Porsche to cause such bad feeling amongst their customers.
    Quite Unbelievable.I'd get rid of the vehicle as a matter of principle and not buy fro. Porsche again.

  • @angelaway9960

    I have had fifty two years in the motor trade. I am a MIMI . From doing a five year apprenticeship at an Austin dealer, right through to owning my own garage business, I have never heard of such a dreadful abuse by a motor manufacturer! Well, the power to do something about this rests firmly in your hands. Go public, go large and go all the way. Legally they are most definitely in the wrong. Absolutely no doubt about that. Porsche can not hide behind the contract that existed betwixt you and them at the point of sale. We’re Porsche, for instance, to plead that the extra was allowed by there computer to exist in error, that error is theirs, not yours and after a fair and reasonable period, Porsche can not reverse their mistake if it can be shown that to do so would cause their customer undue harm or inconvenience. Let us imagine that Porsche fitted, from new, a type of tyre that was ,for all four, £1200 to purchase, more than the usual factory fitted tyre. If, during the first ‘reasonable period’ of your ownership, Porsche realised their error, providing there was no cost or inconvenience to you then it would not be unreasonable for them to replace your tyres with the standard factory fit. But if after one years ownership they approached you and wished to change the tyres, they must provide sound reason for so doing. Simply saying they made a mistake would not provide proper cause were you to take the matter to law. Thus, Porsche removing without consent a benefit that was provided with the vehicle from new must be construed as an illegal act and you should, no, must inform them of this and warn them that the ‘extra’ must be reinstated. You must give Porsche a fair period to respond but make it clear that if they do not act within, say, thirty days then you will take action to recover the removed benefit. DONT DO THIS ON YOUR COMPUTER. Send it hard copy by signed for post.
    If you don’t take action then I’m certain you know the quote, ‘ when good men do nothing’. Jeff

If you download a movie or stream on Netflix or whatever, the companies can retract those movies or edit/remove scenes that are no longer politically correct etc. This is why I still buy DVDs. They can't mess with them through my phone line. The worst case of this I have experienced is Microsoft removing the option to save photos. That was one of the reasons I bought the xbox and after 4 months they took the option away completely. Imagine if I bought a bike, and after about 4 months aleigh just decided to take the seat back. WELL how am i not surprised to hear this . This is the main reason why I will NOT be changing my car / cars, as currently i am in full control over both my vehicles other than when both go in to a garage for there MOT . A neighbour where I stay changed his car and went backwards with the Reg to an older petrol car, now the model he chose if maintained will last probably another 20 yrs and i admire his decision for choosing the car rather than being conned into a hybrid or a fully electric car. FULLY ELECTRIC CARS especially in britian are just a joke because alot of people dont have a driveway to sit there car on to charge it, and we DONT have the infrastructure that would be able to cope with the demand of all those cars needing charging, this is just another way of the government controlling the drivers, and wanting older cars off the roads claiming damaging the Climate, a lot of S ___e . Arnold Schwarzenegger has said openly that there is no global warming, Senator Robert's also said the same thing about global warming there is no such thing. Have any of you clowns that believe in global warming ever wondered why they always take the temperature for the weather at , airports around the country or big citys another CON TO FLEECE THE PUBLIC , it mite be 37 degrees in or around big citys but in the country it will always be cooler in the countryside, because runways hold a lot of heat, buildings hold a lot of heat , a lot of fields in the country hold heat below ground , so when you get the weather on the TV we are all being lied to, just like your fancy car manufacturer has done to you, they've not told you the truth from the get go

    I agree with you, regardless of whether a first world problem or not, it’s a matter of principle and its not as if it is a cheap car in the first place🤯. If Porsche messed up at the start, then it is their error and considering they have always wanted to come across as looking after their customers and offering the best level of service. I like you have found Porsche dealers very good in general. But this is not acceptable and lets be honest as it is a software program then it’s no skin off Porsches noses to just honour their mistake. Now they have a very disgruntled customer and maybe others who were interested now questioning whether to go with a brand that does this. Fair play to you for highlighting this. 👍

    I would definitely contact the trading standards authority and or the relevant Ombudsman. Have u still got the Porsche sales brochure for your car or operators manual , if it is mentioned in them and does not specify that it was classed as an 'extra' they will have to put it back. If you purchased the car .. 'as seen' again u have a claim against them. Any high end car like a Porsche should be working to preserve their customer base , not alienate it .. You are right to be ...ed off !!

There is nothing stopping them passing your driving data on to the Police and insurance companies for possible prosecutions or risk assessment for insurance. It's time that data sharing was disabled permanently on all cars with this feature.

    Hiya Lee, I can assure you the dealers have no control over things like this. At this point in time the manufacturers have all the power because they have massive order banks that will take them months to build so don't want further orders unless they are at zero discount top dollar. While I haven't heard of a manufacturer taking something off a car after its on it is now common place that cars are having features and functions removed after you have ordered the car and before you take delivery. Its all wrong

They should 100% restore the feature FOC. Too bad they made an error, thats their fault, not yours. If they insist on removing it, then they should be paying you £1100👍 And you mean first world problem😁

In the past fellow colleagues who use these have said to me that this company have people who scan the waves and get any negative press about them quickly removed...guess what ? the comment including the name of the co suddenly disappeared from these very pages. whereas the other comment not directly naming them is still there.....I Googled it and yes its true , they even remove comments that are posted to their own websites .

  • @npr1300A8

    This control started with Windows PCs and to a lesser extent, MAC computers too. Updates and anti virus software to keep the user safe from viruses that in all probability were created to sell the AV software! I think you have been treated shamefully by Porche. So you're charged £1100 for the software 'update' and then they have the nerve to say it will cost around the same to add that feature THEY removed in the first place? 🤔 I have a Peugeot 3008 Hybrid and I cannot believe the way they have customers updating the maps and screen software. Once downloaded onto a suitable flash drive, you then insert the drive into the USB socket and proceed to update the car. All the time, around 1 hour 10 you have to have the engine running! So much for caring for the environment?? Why don't they have a removable module that can be plugged into a PC's USB drive then update the software in the comfort of your home as well as saving petrol or diesel? I'm afraid the answer is simple. We are all being played.

    • @glencartmell1487
      @glencartmell1487 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was no charge for the software update. He was provided with a Porsche Macan to use while the update was being performed (including, he claimed, a full tank of fuel although it’s normal to return a loan car with the same amount of fuel that it had when it was loaned to you).
      The £1,100 is to fully enable the Remote Access optional extra in the car which includes the car unlocking itself when the driver is in close proximity. I agree Porsche should have enabled this one feature as a gesture of goodwill in these circumstances but if Lee has been driving Porsche’s for 20 years he will know everything is extra!

  • @dhg1960
    @dhg1960 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The problem you describe has nothing to do with EVs. All vehicles are packed with features that are software based and the same thing could happen with a petrol or diesel car of any make. However I think it would be usual to expect changes to be improvements and not have things removed. It could well be that you had this function by mistake and when the software was updated, this fact was overridden. If this was the case, it was probably a one in a million and fir a high end vehicle, I would have thought Porsche could just let you have it as a good customer.

  • @anthonyskelton9728
    @anthonyskelton9728 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Thats outrageous. So potentially, all the EV Porsche cars sold could actually be top of the range spec but have various features turned off, depending on what you pay for it? What else can your car do thats switched off what you're unaware of?

  • @mrduckspeak
    @mrduckspeak 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    As it was their mistake and you've had it for a year, it seems entirely unreasonable for Porsche to have done this. I would not buy any more cars from a company that was so petty and mean spirited. As you say, not the dealers fault but they'll have to take the rough with the smooth - the manufacturers and dealers are both there to serve the customer in a reasonable manner.

    If the car is on a lease / pcp deal, just give it back under “breach of contract”. If you own it, the fault ain’t yours so tell Porsche to put it back, and the dealer or Porsche themselves can “pay”. Either way, this is a PR disaster for Porsche, so I hope you get a million views of this video. 🤣🤣

    £1100 for a bit of a software update. Not an actual part. That's a total joke.

    • @dhg1960
      @dhg1960 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not how it works in reality. Both the software and hardware has to be developed, refined and installed. In rality this probably costs say 3000 per unit but no one would pay this. They install the hardware as standard and charge evryone say 100 more. The money generate then subsidises those who choose to have it activated for 1100. This way the manufacture ensures sales and covers their costs, plus anyone activating it as an afterthought is good business. It is the same with the cost for different body colours, this bears no relation to the cost of the paint or the paint process. In reality, all those buying the cheap option are subsidising others, as some of the colours on offer often cost way more than the actual price asked for.

Basic engine that you can work on with lot's of space. These cars are getting hard to find. Mine only has 110k kms and was owned by a sraypainter/panel beater so has much better than factory paint and chassis. No, you cannot buy it. But I suggest maybe you should look for a lightly used one. Took me 2 years to find it. Could use it to cart furniture etc if needed.
