One of the writers mentioned that the reason why Sonic doesn't just dash towards San Francisco to get his rings right away is because he's trying to delay his departure from Earth to spend time with Tom. Think about it, Sonic has been lonely ever since his transportation to Earth & his Guardian is dead. He knows he should flee the planet if discovered, but he has clearly grown attached to the humans so he tries all he can to enjoy his time with them while it lasts.
(Well until he decides to stay on Earth in the end)
I'm not saying you should change your opinions, but what I'm saying here is considered a *fact.*
the teleportation is actually a giant ring that takes you to a special level in the original Sonic the Hedgehog games, you would find them at the end of every few levels. By completing them you would receive a Chaos Emerald
I personally love both the first and second movie, and looking forward to the third one. But we all are allowed to have opinions, but don’t be mean to those who disagree with you. That’s goes for everyone. And these quotes from SpongeBob (correct me if I’m saying this wrong ) even though totally disagree with your opinion, I accept it
Regardless of what you thought of the movie Sophie, you have to give huge props to Paramount for doing one hell of a job listening to the fans and giving them what they want.
In case if you don’t know what I’m talking about, one of the best things about this movie is that after the first "trailer" in May 2019, it received huge backlash for the horrendous design of Sonic, who had weird eyes and real human teeth. So it seemed like something that was doomed to fail. Because of this, the studio delayed the movie to make Sonic "just right." Hell, even the VFX Studio that was part of the redesign got shut down. It's obvious that Paramount and director Jeff Fowler actually care about the fans who grew up with the games and other media and respect the intelligence of children (the film's main target audience) rather than pandering and insulting them. In the end, it went from being a certified disaster to a critical and box office success, grossing over $300 million worldwide and its sequel made $400 million worldwide not too long ago, basically saving an entire franchise. Both this and the sequel are even the two highest-grossing video game movies domestically (though next year's Mario movie will undoubtedly surpass it). In addition, it also gave Paramount a new franchise to work with and it was the beginning of their comeback. So I learned that day that if you treat fans with care, then they will reward you back.
As for the movie itself, I enjoyed it despite some problems here and there. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves the Sonic franchise or just wants something fun to watch. Despite you not liking the movie, you will always be my favorite reactor! We all have different options! :)

I actually like this movie, because of Jim Carry, also the story and entertaining to watch.
Honestly really enjoyed this film. I always loved playing sonic on my mega drive. Im glad that another generation get to enjoy him.
I personally didn’t care for the first one that much and I actually watched it like a couple days before I went and saw the second one in theatre’s. I definitely enjoyed the second one much better and found the story was improved and much more entertaining 🙏😇!!! So I would definitely recommend that you give the sequel a chance as someone who wasn’t a fan of the first film.

@@SophieLents I understand. The first movie definitely was one of those cliche 90s tropes and threw a few Sonic stuff in there. However they definitely used a majority of the source material for the sequel and I find it much more enjoyable than this one. Especially since Jim carrey has returned for the role. I definitely recommend it if you ever change your mind. Or heck just to get it out of the way lol

Although, I can say that the sequel is *easily* far better than the first, because it actually felt like a SONIC movie, focusing more on the characters we know and love from the game and less screen time for the humans. The stakes were definitely far higher and Robotnik was on a while other level (and it's sadly but possibly Jim Carrey's last movie), so I do recommend it. However, if you still decide not to watch the sequel, that's alright. I don't know if I'd be all that motivated to watch a continuation to a movie I genuinely did not like either.

I got to disagree, I think this movie is okay. It set out to give a fun movie with Sonic, and I think most people agree that it did. Plus I think you got some things wrong while watching this movie.
8:28 - No one is able to figure out what the threat is, and how to deal with it. He believes that a situation like this requires a more sophisticated mind. They ruled out other possibilities like an EMP and such, and they can't determine what it is.
11:06 - The reason he needs to do it somewhere else is because the portal takes a while to close. We see this with Sonic coming to Earth, as the portal remained open for a short amount of time. We see this during the scene where Robotnik injured Sonic and the portal remained open long enough to allow him to come to Green Hills. He wants to play is safe and make sure they can't come through in time.
12:29 - Well he was shocked and caught off guard by him entering and him screaming. When people are shocked they can make mistakes. Sonic is not immune to mistakes.
12:44 - Because people who are powerful are aware of his presence, he'll always be hunted on Earth. The planet is no longer safe for him as long as the military and Robotnik are around and actively hunting him.
16:24 - Tom has been shown to be a respectful who everybody likes. He's a cop who's duty is to help people, which he also like to do. He sees that Sonic is not a threat and is asking Tom for help. Tom's kind nature makes it so he feels obligated to help.
19:38 - He's starting to like Sonic as he spends more time with him. Sonic's hyperactive personality and his childlike wonder are growing on Tom.
21:03 - He wants to be with Tom and make a friend as he's been lonely these past few years. The movie made a point to show that Sonic idolizes Tom for his selfless nature and willingness to help those in need (which inspires him to do good in the sequel). That's why he hasn't gone to San Fran by now, he wants to make a friend. Sonic's just a kid who's trying to make the best out of a dire situation. Sonic is purposely trying to be with Tom as long as possible in the hopes of making a friend as he's been lonely these past few years.
It's a part of his bucket list to make a real friend before leaving Earth.
But at the end of the day, it's your opinion. I understand why you don't like it, and that's fine.
I really love your reaction video! Of all the Sonic movie reaction videos I've watched, you seem to be the only one to point out its terrible humor or the fact that the 2 main characters are super boring. What a pleasure to discover your channel, I find you very funny. I can tell from my own viewing that watching Sonic is like being in a car parked in the sun and every time Jim Carrey pops up it's a breath of fresh air.

Yeah, Sonic should lighten up. There is nothing wrong with seeking out more for your life. If the community really loved him, they'd be sad to see him go, but they'd also be glad to see him moving up. Just because your passions lie elsewhere doesn't mean you don't love your community, and a supportive community would want to see you pursue those passions, even if it means saying goodbye, it's not being ungrateful to move on.

Really enjoy your reaction/first time watch vids! Even though I enjoyed this movie enough, that first half is - IMO - definitely rough going. I found the 2nd movie to be significantly better, much more of a "Sonic" movie closer to the games than this was, I'd recommend it tbh.

As someone who fairly enjoyed the movie I must say your comments were hilarious.
The first act is definitely the stronger part of this movie. It does a pretty good job at establishing the characters and contextualizing Sonic's loneliness. But the rest completely falls apart because the plot wasn't really thought out.
I also agree with you that Sonic is too OP. Like he can "slow down time" whenever he can. These sequences are cool visually, but they damage the story more than anything.
To me this movie is saved by Jim Carrey's performance and its few wholesome moments. I actually really like the fact that Sonic is an actual kid in this universe and lacks the bits of maturity that he has in the games. It gives him room to grow.
Honestly, given how much of a bad time you had with that one, I don't know if I could really recommend the second movie. It's definitely better in a lot of aspects, but it carries a lot of the first movie's legacy. You might have a better time, but I don't know if you'd have a good time lmao

I think the reason this movie feels a bit generic and undercooked is that this wasn't really a SONIC Movie, rather more of a setup for the Actual Sonic movie (The sequel).
Ya know, to Introduce Sonic, his backstory and to setup the conflict in Sonic 2.

You don't like it, and that's fine, it's impossible to please everyone with a movie anyway. It was OK in my opinion, but it's one of the few video game-movie that wasn't a complete disaster (Sonic won against Mario at this for sure, for now Edit: Take that Sonic!).
Oh, and if you want Jim Carrey to be more... Jim Carrey, I recommend Dumb and Dumber if you haven't seen it.
But imagine how much you would have disliked it if it kept the old Sonic design, I'm so glad Paramount changed that.

Sonic is a very fast Hedgehog. He and others (around the universe/multiverse) has rings that can teleport them anywhere they dream.
The Echidnas and the Owls have been fighting for a long time over who has control over the 7 Chaos Emeralds, and combine to form the Master Emeralds (which can form a thought into reality).
Dr. Eggman/Dr. Robotnik is Sonic’s arch nemesis who wants world domination.
Tails is an anthropomorphic fox cub born with two distinct twin-tails. He was a victim of bullying and was inspired to be as cool as Sonic. He became his bestfriend and sidekick after he began following Sonic on his adventures. He is able to use his twin-tails to fly by rotating them like helicopter rotors and is a mechanic genius and aerial pilot.
Knuckles is an anthropomorphic Echidna and the guardian of the Master Emerald. He’s the sole surviving descendant of the Echidna race from the Knuckles clan. His traits are superstrength and two-spike knuckles on each of his gloves.
Super Sonic is the Super state of Sonic achieved by drawing the power of the 7 Chaos Emeralds.
Metal Sonic is a robot created by Eggman to do battle with Sonic. He can match and surpass his abilities.
Shadow was created by Robotnik’s grandfather by using the DNA of Shadow’s main antagonist, Black Doom. His purpose was to provide ways and develop a cure for incurable deadly illnesses. But he was captured and put into stasis following his birth when he deemed a threat to humanity.

Can't believe this got a sequel and plans for more, while more live action Pokemon was shelved after Detective Pikachu which was a great movie
To be fair, Detective Pikachu, while financially successful, underperformed relative to expectations at the box office. Many thought it would crack a billion because Pokémon is said to be “the biggest media franchise of all time”.
Maybe if they didn’t release it during Avengers: Endgame’s third weekend, it could’ve done better.

the first was alright and i can understand why you didn't like it. Unfortunately paramount put restrictions on the creator of the movie, which is why it was not as good as it could have been. that being said, they had al the creative freedom for the sequel and it was miles ahead of the first one in terms of quality, so even if your hesitant to watch it, you should definitely give it a shot. who knows, maybe you'll end up really enjoying. Also their workin on a 3rd movie and i personally am really excited 😁😁😁
Yes, the first one just feels like an Alvin and the Chipmunks film, there is no reason it takes place on Earth, it just does, Sonic is only Sonic by name, and maybe a little bit by power that only feels secondary in the plot. At least the second one feels like Sonic with the character dynamics and everything, even though I still don't get why it had to be on Earth.

I recommend a historic documentary called "saving private Ryan". Saving private Ryan is an historic movie. Loosely based on the real life events of world war 2. It started from 1939. When Germany's dictator Adolf invaded Poland. Ended in 1945, when Adolf Hitler committed suicide. The movie started talented celebrities. (Matt Damon, Tom Hanks, Edward Burns and Tom Sizemore). Saving private Ryan won multitude of awards. From director Steven Spielberg to cinematography, it received high positive reviews. On rotten tomatoes alone; it scored well over 93%. Many fans (historians included) loved and praised the movie so much. That is my movie suggestion towards you. Definitely will become happy with it. The movie's story is straightforward. It was about American soldiers fighting against German soldiers. (Adolf Hitler was the German leader for Nazi Germany). Whereas Joseph Stalin was the Communist leader for Soviet Union. Sonic movies are just meh for me. While they're pretty kiddy and full of childish jokes, they at least understand the lore and Jim Carrey plays his part well.
I'm glad I'm not the ONLY one that thought this movie was bad. It was boring and bad. Thank God someone else agrees.

Honestly when I watched it I found it kinda boring but still entertaining. I enjoyed it more overtime(even though I’ve only seen it once) but when I first saw it I’m pretty sure I remember fighting to stay awake 😂😂. Personally I felt it was not that good like people were hyping it up to be, but it was better than Hotel Transylvania 4 cause that movie was just bad lol.

Why are u so shocked that she doesn't like the movie? We all have different opinions & preferences! Just 'cause a huge majority of people like the movie, doesn't mean she HAS to like it too. This is one of my favorite movies, and *I'm* not complaining about her reaction!

wow was uh expecting a much more positive opinion form you about this movie lol I admit some times Sonic and tom could be a little corny and dumb but I thought the whole movie was ok especially the scene with Jim Carrey and I know you don't want to but if you ever decide to rip the bandage and see Sonic 2 trust me when I say it was a pretty good improvement over the first one and it was very well done.
Even if I liked the movie, I am SO happy to see a reactor admit they hate a popular movie, usually they don't dare ! I personally hate Encanto and other popular shows and movies and I find nobody reacting negatively to them, so in honor of the other people who hated the Sonic movie, believe me you are doing a great job !

The second film actually had a Sonic story and not a buddy road trip film with Sonic as the protagonist. It’s a major improvement over this one. You might have some fun

it's true it was amazing to see them redoing the design for Sonic, but that doesn't take away the bad story of the movie. It's like the saying that goes : "put gold glitter on a pile of shit: it will look pretty, but it is still shit".
I'm sorry, but the movie was the most generic and uninspired fanfic i've ever seen. yes, the story sounds like a very bad fanfic. "The main character comes into our world/reality" kind of story is not original, it felt like it was written by a 12 years old, and i did write bad fanfic when i was 12 ! and yes, it was that kind of fanfic.
People compared Detective Pikachu to this movie and do you want to know my opinion on this? Detective Pikachu is a way better adaptation than Sonic is. It just is. Even if people slander DP for having an obvious plot twist, those same people praise the movie Sonic despite having a bland story. Quite hypocritical.
Maybe that's because I did play more Pokémon games and i never played sonic as a kid that it makes it difficult for me to get attached to the movie, but I showed both DP and Sonic to my mom who is a complete blank slate when it comes to the franchises and she still prefered DP. Okay, maybe she has a little bias because she likes investigations shows, but she did say the story of Tim was more compelling that the guy from Sonic. The family dynamics also got her. Detective Pikachu just has more to its story than Sonic. Not knowing anything about the lore of both franchises is the best way to see if the movie was done correctly or not. Because despite not getting all the references in DP (unlike me who squealed everytime i saw something) my mom enjoyed the story. She didn't need to know every pokémon facts to enjoy the movie. And none of us need to. For Sonic, she told me it was another road trip movie but with just an alien blue hedgehog. Nothing interesting, nothing compelling. I'm not saying that every movies need to have a groundbreaking storytelling, I'm just saying that if the narrative isn't properly written, then it's hard to get attached to the story. Best quote from my mom : "That is such a waste of rings..."
The movies aren't just for the fans, it's for everyone, old and new fans. People who don't know the lore of the franchises should still be able to enjoy the movie and if they don't, it means the writers failed at their job. I'm sorry, Sonic fans, but i was bored during Sonic. And no, it's not because Sonic got a sequel it means that the first movie was good. Two reasons: 1, they always planned to make a sequel, with their Tails teaser at the end. 2, the quality of a movie is not depending on its wordlwide success, Despicable Me is a good exemple. They made sequels and spin-off simply because they could sell easily merchandises. Megamind is a way better written story than Despicable Me and yet it got overshadowed by the latter. Just because it makes money it doesn't necessarily mean that it's good. In many cases it's true, but it is not an absolute truth.
I agree on that last sentence of the last paragraph. Look at how Top Gun: Maverick is doing at the box office right now. It’s the seventh highest grossing film domestically of all time and made $1.3 billion worldwide because it’s a fantastic movie and a blockbuster done right (don’t know if this is a good comparison).
The first one is not really good but the second is the best one it is a real sonic movie, I think with this one they were just trying to introduce the world building and enemy’s and friends but I guarantee the second one is better

wow you really let loose here, and you forgot the fact that sonic is just a kid and the fact that he is so immature is understandable and that this movie is more than anything intended for a younger audience and I highly doubt that anything that what did you say a child would take into account and if it were as bad a movie as you say it would not have such good grades, maybe the movie is not bad maybe you have different tastes
I finally finished to watch the reaction and I really understand why you didn't like it, it has a lot a problems and only someone who enjoys seeing Sonic on screen has a fun time watching the movie, the jokes are not funny as you sad, I'm sorry you won't watch the sequel cause it's so much better, Jim Carrey goes insane, tails and Knuckles are here, and there's little of the human cast (Except Jim of course), there's only a segment that shows them a lot and it's a bit annoying, anyway regardless of what you'll do great reaction as always love your videos a lot♥️

1:55 I hate school with a passion, and I always will. It's such a broken, horrible system that causes more stress than it's worth. Schools tell you to get sleep and yet it is the sole reason many kids don't get any sleep. Kids are horrible and cruel too, and when you go for help, the best they can do is put up a few anti bullying posters. Don't even get me started on the curriculum style.

I don’t have the option to homeschool. Both my parents worked full time all my life, and rarely had time to spend with me. Homeschool was out of the question no matter how much I wanted it.
I was honestly so disappointed with this movie too. I haven’t watched the sequel yet, but it looks so much better than this one. They added Tails and Knuckles so I’m probably gonna watch it later
