I honestly don't know of any Sonic game that is considered non canon. The only non canon thing in the Sonic universe is maybe the Archie comics.
15:52 The reason he keeps them on is actually simpler than that, his unrestrained power takes a toll on his physical body, so the rings are more so here to stabilise shadow.

This is the type of game theory I love something outrageous that can be justified, even if the beginning was a bit stretched
I can definitely see the argument that they were thematic parallels between Shadow’s story and genies lore, but I don’t think that makes him an actual genie.
The series has aliens that are mistaken for genies, like you mentioned, but then there are also actual genies in Sonic & The Secret Rings. It’s been over a decade and a half since genies were introduced into the series so I feel like if they wanted to address any literal connections between shadow and genies it would’ve been brought up at this point.
However, if we’re looking up as purely from a thematic level rather than a literal one, I can get behind the theory that his story parallels of genie mythology
Agree. The theory seems to make sense with the resemblances, yet it still don’t make Shadow a literal genie, as it’s never canonically implied to be.
I’m pretty sure sonic and the secret rings is a story book that sonic falls into magically just like sonic and the black knight. I’m not sure if the genies in that game exist in the real world where sonic and shadow lives. That still leaves the possibility that the aliens that were confused to be genies could still be related to if not literally the black arms

Yeah, I'm surprised that wasn't referenced even once. Although Shadow has nothing to do with it outside of the multiplayer, Sonic calls back to it in Generations. So it's canon that Sonic went inside the Arabian Nights, and that Shahra and Erazor Djinn (genies) exist.

You missed the point of the inhibitor rings. The rings were made not to weaken shadow but to keep his power at the limit his body can handle. When the inhibitor rings are off, Shadow’s overwhelming power is too much for his body and so Gerald created the inhibitor rings to ensure that shadow wouldn’t accidentally explode. Also, fun fact, despite being compared to Vegeta every 3 minutes, it was recently revealed that the biggest inspiration for Shadow’s character was the anti-hero Spawn

Wait I didn’t recall him potentially exploding… I remember the fan made Shadow movie which was super accurate with their facts saying his body constantly went from “regular hedgehog to super” and that put a strain on his body, and that’s why they couldn’t read his dna. So Shadow has the potential to go super without his inhibitor rings. But exploding? Oh heck naw not my boi ☹️🖤

Tom, without the rings, Shadow can actually die from the Chaos Energy. Without them, he's much more vulnerable to damage.

@@noblesseoblige319 well he wont really die from what i know, but he overexerts himself far to quickly and gets tired without the inhibitor rings [which is seen in season 3 of sonic x when he doesnt have the inhibitor rings and gets super tired after every battle], and he can take them off at will [as seen in sonic 06 when he popped them off and blitz through a army of mephilses]

The reason why Shadow wears the inhibitor rings is because he can't handle the chaos energy throughout his body otherwise he use too much energy for him to use.

The inhibitor rings aren't to "symbolize his servitude" or whatever that nonsense was. They keep him from exploding because his body cant contain that much power properly
He didn’t even acknowledge Sonic and the Secret Rings, an ENTIRE GAME BASED UPON THE ARABIAN NIGHTS STORY. They definitely researched that and since they took it nowhere, they made a mainline game off of it to not waste their research.

Cool parallels, but the Genie stuff really ends there. The Black Arms not only are really different from the Babylonians (one being a parasite species that consumes planets while the other being a highly advanced dimension hopping race), the wings part really fall flat when you realize they were just talking about the Magic carpet/Extreme gear, the giving wings isn't literal, it's being given the power of flying. Plus Black Doom's design is way more going for Satan then a genie.

The purpose of Shadow's inhibitor rings isn't to protect those around him, but to safeguard himself. His immense power is difficult to control, which is why he requires the rings to manage it. Additionally, wouldn't it be more fitting to refer to Shadow as a devil? Many stories depict devils as granting people's desires in exchange for their soul or chaos.

To be honest while I do think the same, I think that he's not inherently wrong, like Shadow isn't literally a genie, but all the analysis makes sense in a regard

the reason why shadow wears these inhibitor rings is that he has chaos energy flowing through him because he is made using chaos energy, so if he removes them all of the chaos energy goes full power and becomes unstable so the inhibitor rings are not slavery for a wish, not for fashion, but for stability
Love the video, but I do want to correct one fact. There is a reason Gerald put those inhibitor rings on him. It was to limit his powers, but it was also for his own sake. Like you said, Gerald needed Black Doom's DNA to do this, but with that came an immense amount of power. Shadow cannot control all of that doom and chaos energy inside him, that's why he has the inhibitor rings. If he takes them of, it's very exhausting to use chaos energy. In Sonic X we see that he tires out extremely fast when fighting without chaos energy. They're not there to limit him, but protect him.
We're just not going to mention the Sonic Arabian Nights game, Sonic and the Secret Rings?

The metaphors/analogues of this video are really good, I don't think Shadow was ever meant to literally be a genie, (I'm pretty sure SA2 was made as if it were potentially the last Sonic game) (actually, watching the whole theory, I'm a little more convinced), but the idea of Shadow being bound by his "masters" wishes is actually very symbolic as Gerald altered his memories for the sake of revenge
But also Shadow probably wears his rings so he doesn't like, explode or something
Ok, this is a really interesting theory, but you are forgetting something. The myth from the Babylonians from Sonic Riders came from a prehistoric era of sonic mythos. Shadow's story came only 50 years ago. Also, the genie that was shown in sonic riders was actually a robot made by the babylonians to scare off intruders.

tbh a game theory saying "shadow is mewtwo" would honestly make more sense than this, shadow and mewtwo are meant to be something like an ultimate lifeform, their dna came from another species, a scientist wanted to save a young girl who he was related to, the girl was kept isolated from the world to keep her safe, the girl dies, they both try to destroy humanity but a being with matching power stops them and gets them to realize destroying the earth wouldnt be a cool idea
