      Yes, you missed the part where the interesting people come in. Andy is too much of a jerk, and nobody wants to. Also, his culinary ideas are kinda meh. I don't think anybody wants to be caught on camera displaying false enthusiasm, or their honest opinion. Because they're nice, interesting people. Unlike Andy.

      Andy did, by obviously wanting to be in videos all the time, and then acting like they're a chore when he's in them. Look at the views. Average of 5 million for anything Claire does. Brad? He brings a solid 2-3 million views per video. Andy? Not even close. Seriously, he's anti charisma. Bleh

    Please educate yourselves, Thai restaurants we're introduced by Lao people in fear that marketing Lao restaurants won't be successful. Years ago, Thai people looked down on Lao people. Laab is actually a Laotian dish. We eat it with sticky rice.

    • @ihearttube
      @ihearttube 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Yeah as a Thai person I feel bad about this. We have a lot of dishes in common but, if I have to be specific, Laab is more a northeastern Thai dish than a Thai dish and could be more Laotian than Thai. Since the Laos-Thai borders were fluctuating for the past hundreds of years even before we have these modern nation-states, a lot of things are both. And Laos don't get enough credits for the food advertised as Thai. Actually many things are Thai to the West but they're actually shared by more than one ASEAN country like Som Tam and durian.

    Andy/Bon team,
    I like the vids but I have something to add to this. I eat this style of food everyday (my wife is Thai Lao). I would change a few things with this;
    1) use Oyster mushrooms, pan or oven roast them, then shred them like string cheese.
    2) You must have Cilantro, obviously some peoole don't like it but it makes the dish.
    3) You must also have pulverized toasted sweet rice (uncooked stickey rice that is pan toasted and pulverized....I use a vitamix).
    3) Use Thai chilis, just less of them.
    4) Finally, once everything is cut and the mushrooms are roasted and shredded, smash in a large clay or wood mortor and pestel. It helps create the texture and flavor of authentic Thai/Lao food (larb [pronounced laab] is more of a Laotion food].....should also be eaten with sticky rice (moderately if on diet).

    Made it! We used 2 serranos since they were smaller. Not the best move, so we chopped the cab up and wilted it in with the mix. Added some sambal bc then it was not spicy enough. Perfect move. Added a bit more fish sauce than he did and a little ponzu...just bc we like ponzu. Its now completely different but the fix made something awesome and way more bareable. The chopped wilted cabbage makes it kind of like noodles which is pretty cool too.

      Mmm toasted? Like, before? or after it's cooked?

      @@HowToMakeDinner Before. All you need to do is put the rice into the pan and keep stirring it over low heat; the key here is patience. Don't forget to crush it into small pieces afterwards with mortar or rolling pin though! If you search for ข้าวคั่ว, there should be some videos (albeit in Thai) on how to make them.

      Raw, you can google roasted rice powder for Larb. but basically you roast uncooked rice in a dry skillet until it is browned and then grind it in a coffee grinder.

    Love me some larb. This is a yummy version. I’ll try it, but instead of rinsing shallots I soak in rice vinegar until dish is ready.

    Mushrooms are literally 90% water so it takes quite a while to really brown them well. I make mushroom ketchup with Shiitake and it’s amazing!

    This looks really simple, going to need to give this a try. I also imagine this is easy to scale up if you have a large enough vessel and would be a good appetizer or something to make for a group.
