Richest People in the World 1986-2023

- This data visualization video shows the wealthiest billionaires from 1986 to 2023. I include their primary investment on the left and secondary investments or notes to the right of that. The data comes from Forbes' yearly billionaire list. This is updated often, so the last numbers have already changed since they're from last week. The race was originally too chaotic, with bars crisscrossing each other non-stop, so I had to smooth out the numbers.
This is great! Thank you for the new upload
Bezos and Zuckerberg: make way, excuse me, coming through
Bezos: wait where'd you go
Elon Musk: Side Please 'Sike' 'Sike' 'Sike'😮
Surprised bezos didn't get cut in half creating an instant billionaire in his ex.
Love your channel!! not sure if anyone else requested; can you find information on wealth before 1986? like Rockefeller etc? maybe estimates only? adjusted for inflation? tall order but no matter what you rock!
WallMart is so big that was divided in a thousand pieces and each piece is still one of the richest of the world
Jake Paul - Waaaaaaaaaallmaaaaaaaaaart
... until each one of them started getting divorces and their ex-wives starting taking half
If Sam Walton had lasted a few more years he would have been the richest in the world.
Lol not even close but keep pretending
@@MaximGhost prenuptial agreement.
So the richest people got 10x as rich in 30 years while most people struggle to pay the rent. Good times.
Yet people still do not believe in raising the minimum wage in this country.
I wonder why most are American.
@@davidescobar5366 Cheap labour is king. Accept it. The government isn’t shipping in millions from abroad to be kind.
They want their economies ran on the cheap so you won’t notice the billions going missing in all the bills they pass.
Work harder, work smarter, and never hate anyone that did more than you did.
@@MS-ns2pj It would be fine if the rich people were only people that worked hard. But that's far from the truth. We live in a world where money "can work for you". Just inherit some money, invest it somewhere and you'll get richer by the day without moving a finger. Those interests you're "earning" are payed by people that don't have enough to "let money work for them". When you're old you're rich enough to pass both of your kids enough money so they can do the same. Now twice as many people want their interests to be paid. Products get more expensive for every investor that has to be paid. Everyone could do that, but not all of us. Someone has to be at the bottom end of the pyramid so some can be at the top. Not all millionaires are as busy as Gates or Musk. These are only the few you know about, there are many more, out of the public eye, quietly getting richer. This system can't possibly reach a state of fairness and equality.
I really like the music that is in your videos. I don't know if anyone has told you this before.
Great work! It would be interesting to analyse the dataset, is it possible to share the website to get this data(CSV) please. Thanks.
Great to see how things have changed over time!
97 percent of these people were born into wealthy families.
Some upper middle class but most into multi millionaire families.
wrong
@@mob9900 he is right
the majority of the names on this list in 1980 came from wealthy families and inheritance.
After 1995 or so, and the birth of the accessible internet through cable internet...the majority of names did NOT come from wealthy families or inheritance.
If the graphs are to be believed, the introduction of the internet completely changed the game. It was now easier than ever in recorded history to become an overnight millionaire from nothing. You didn't have to be born rich to die rich anymore.
Millions of people in the world are born into wealthy families. But they just spend the money and achieve nothing.
@@adilakhanpal2876 no he is not right at all. its a poor mans myth to feel better about himself, 95% of millionaires are Self-made
Elon musk rises from nowhere...
From other people's ashes and from his inherited wealth.
@@jdbtabouret.218 stop the cap. keep hating
@@jdbtabouret.218and because of his many businesses… but we leave that out, it’s easier to say he didn’t work at all
No it’s easier to not be delusional about family wealth and inheritance financial laws. Musk is a spoiled brat like many others.
Its impressive Sweden had 3 entries in that list with a population of less than 10 million ppl. 👏🏻
@@adrianlean9628Eeh. No.
Except it was the family and not a person.
Even though the rise of Elon Musk is impressive, one should not forget that a big chunk of his insane wealth growth came from the short squeeze of Tesla stock.
Bro made 300+ million out of 27k, Stop waffling.
@@VengeanceCore This is not the point ... Whilst the other numbers strongly correlate with the "natural" growth of their respective companies, Tesla didn't grow as much in substance but was mostly inflated due to stock speculation. Does it change much for Musk's bank account? Obviously not.
@@A3racada3raHe also made a good chunk of money from PayPal.
All of these are stock value. They don't have such big liquid money. They usually only have less than 10 billion in bank account unless if you are actual royal family where you will have people's tax money.
How were the assets determined? According to the share value or according to the company's equity?
Li Ka-shing mainly depended on real estate also (as are most rich people in HK after 1980...)
Those are numbers so large that no human should ever need to even comprehend them, let alone be worth that much money. I mean what even is $189000000000 anyway? What does it look like? How many meals would that buy? How many hospitals? How many years could a single person theoretically survive on that much worth of food, or energy, or healthcare, enough to live a million years?
Wealth is designed to exploit as well as attract mates. Congress gives themselves raises while freezing and taxing american wages. People fear LIV golf as well as Saudi Arabia makes the PGA look homeless.
Why do YOU get to decide?
It’s their money and if they want to hoard it all that’s on them. I have no right to decide or give my opinion on how people spend their money if at all. Rich or poor.
@@alang4033 while many others have none and are starving to death every day
@@zakir2815 ok but that’s not their problem as rich people. If they don’t want to give their money to others, then that is their right in many countries. Not all of course but certainly it is a true statement in the United States.
Nice video, I will post an update video on my channel this week.
This is cool. 👍 👍
Talk about how close the bar race was, one of the tightest bar races so far for sure!
Imagine if all that WalMart wealth was still centralized under one name rather than split out 5-6 ways after Sam passed….
this is genius,,, 👏. I like the ending screen 'Are you next?' , yeah I'll be on that list one day, when I make a billion I'm gonna make a positive difference in the world helping those in need.
They all are nothing before Richie rich. He's the richest man ever existed.
Yeah he’s rich and all, but let’s see Paul Allen’s business card
This is cool. I met Larry Ellison in Scottsdale in 2000 when he was flying one of his own private jets (I think it was a Cessna Citation Bravo or thereabouts-he owned 3 or 4) with one of his top pilots giving him instruction from the right (copilot) seat. Instead of a catering order, he asked to have me run and get him some Taco Bell. I kid you not. Nice guy. He was really easy to talk to. I met quite a few famous people in that line of work and he stands out as one of the most memorable.
Now Ellison sits on Tesla's board of directors, providing guidance to a new generation of tech titans.
I delivered to one of his homes in woodside, security told me not to take out my call and take pics/vid and made my sign a paper stating i wouldn't use my cell to record/ photograph, mansion is huge
Does anyone know the name of the song?
Strange I didn't see Rockerfellers, Rothchilds on the list?
Shadow money. Same as Larry Fink. The richest don't tell us
les plus riches ne sont pas sur cette liste
Yea. It's almost like conspiracy theories are bullshit.
Elon to Bill...hold my beer!
How do you make this??
Si toda la familia Walton uniera su fortuna esta sería de $237,000,000,000 según datos del 2022
Nunca creí que abrir una tienda de abarrotes dejaba tanto dinero
'Are you next?'
Well, if you are doing the top poorest people I might be :)
We can compete😂
If you live in the west you are richer than 90% of the world.
I've only been surprised that Steve Jobs seems never to have been rich enough for this chart 😮 didn't expect that considering all the fuss that was (and from some still is) made around Apple
well apple the corporation is huge, but there's plenty of large companies or corporations that don't have super rich founders. (Well obviously steve jobs is rich but not like top 10 in the world rich)
You should make a video about inequality based on GINA index
Can’t even imagine. Never having to worry about anything and being able to just focus on what makes you happy. Sheesh.
Elon Musk rised on this ranking like a true rocket :)
It’s disappointing that I’m still not on this freakin list.
Who else hadn't heard of Bernard Arnault before watching this?
Les gens qui connaissent l'économie connaissent tous Bernard Arnault !!!
It's LVMH come on bro
Everyone knows it bro
Everyone knows him
Those who never heard about neither Louis Vuitton, Moët&Chandon or Hennessy (LVMH) (or Dior, or Tiffany&co, or Veuve Cliquot, or Bulgari...)
The lowest in the list today is 4 times wealthier than the highest in the list in 1986.
Seems reasonable right, the system is not fucked up at all.
The average Ethiopian or Bangladeshi is also way richer now than in 1986.

Was this inflation-adjusted? You should say in the description if so. Including the value of the US dollar wouldn't be helpful at all for understanding the change over time, so inflation-adjusted would be way better.
all these people here richer than entire countries 💀
It’s impressive how long Queen Elizabeth was on the list for, considering she died in 1603
the fact that the CEO of LV is the richest man in the world right now sums up the new Materialistic generartion pretty well.
Bro what are you talking about, the average client is between 30-40. And you must take into account that the 4.5% richest client do more than half the benefit of LV with an average of 100 000€ per client. The rich people just consume more that's all
Yeah that’s total bullshit
My poppop met Sam Walton at an air port.
Shri Ratan Tata 💎 ✨️
Ah... the good ol money game
The richest people are hiding in the dark...
I wonder where I am on the list😅
It is baffling to me that Musk wasn't in the top before 2020. Back when I was in space engineer studies (around 2016) his name was on anyone's mouth. And it's not like Tesla didn't exist way before that.
Thank you for this video, it was very interesting!
As kids we play what would you do if you had $____ whatever # is high for you. I was the only one who would say nothing I would only use it for necessities not junk. I'm 38 now and that's what I do lol

Larry Page & Sergie Brin have the Google INC (Alphabet) share of 52% and 48% respectively.

Prefacing your post with "Fact:" isn't quite as effective as you may think it is. It's like if I said, "Fact: ur a silly bish" ... it's not binding in any way shape or form and ultimately just goes to show how little effort you put in to your point.

Larry Fink should be on here.
Warren Buffett ❤
Where's Richard Branson?
Why there’s no apple whole time?
You don't know whether to laugh or cry when you see someone drop out of the list for only having a measly $65 billion....
One day...
As a joke why don't you put in Satoshi Nakamoto? He have 1000000 bitcoin and today he have a total of 23000000000 dollars. In 2025 probably he will hit 200000000000 dollars and more in years to come.
Now Nakamoto has about 42000000000 dollars. He doubled his fortune 🙂
Satoshi is Elon.
Spoiler Alert: Elon ragained his title as the Richest person in the world after months of setback to his Twitter take over.
No he hasn't.
You would think Steve Jobs would have made the top 10 at some point.
"Are you next ?"
Of course. Of course...
Let me finish my cofee
I must have missed when Blockbuster entered and then left the chat.
now do one with the rothchilds included
Elons bar just shrinking at the end

Ryan cohen will be on this list calling it 20/01/2024
If only sitting here watching this paid that much
the pace how the richest got richer in the last couple of years goes along with the pace the middle class feeling to become poor.
Ryan cohen will be on this list
You missed someone out in 1989. His initials are P.E.
Zuck's back up at number 4 now
This can be.
its funny seeing the Walton family battling it out on who is richer. "Im richer than you! No, Im richer than you!
Odd how Musk just pops out of nowhere
Honestly, if I was that rich, I would probably just keep 1 billion, then the rest charity and improving the country.
Even that's way more than you'll ever need. At my previous job, I was making about $50k/year after taxes. I donated about $4k/year to various charities and individuals because even after paying all my bills, all my loan payments, my mortgage, etc. and still saving enough in the bank for emergencies every month, I had way more money than I ever needed, so I gave it away.
Now, I live alone, so families will have more expenses. But I was making 20,000 times less than a billion.
No one needs that much money in their bank or pocket. The utility curve flattens far sooner.
That's why they also think they are the right people for improving the countries, just like you. It is just their Improvement ideas may be quite different from yours or mine or people of the countries, they are "improving" Case in point: Ghana vs Bill Gates.
I'm pretty sure some of them have their own charity association. Gates, that's for sure.
Having 40 Billion dollars in the Adam Sandler movie Mr. Deeds is a big responsibility even making best less risky investments' at Bank of America. Even if I had that kind of money even as a woman in my next life makes me think I must take the Bank of America's professional advice making the monthly interest I must live on for the rest of my life as that option.
What about the Rothchilds
Everyone was legend until the real legend enters in 2020 " elon musk"
the quicker you rise the quicker you fall. Tesla is a bubble ready to pop
LOUIS VITTON...HOW MUCH ARE THOSE PURSES WTF
Why do some figures suddenly stop evolving. Like Queen Elizabeth II for example, it's stopped at 10,7 billions, and it's not because of her death because it stopped a lot sooner than that.
Probably because her not being a CEO her wealth was dependent on what she already had. She started out with it and kept it, she didn't grow or lose much.
Not to “knock” your list….(a made a funny) but your list doesn’t include BlackRock and Vanguard let alone Jerome Powell or Peter Peterson. The central bankers have more than their corporate children get in allowances
where is my name🙄
at the end, right bottom corner.
3:50 This isn't fair, in the past you combined family wealth, rather than having the Walton's, you have each member individually. They should be a combined 100B
6:45 Same for Koch brothers.
