    🤣 just 3 cookies, you deserve a medal 🏅 for that alone. As my collection grows this is all great advice. I've only got about 60 house plants plus shelves of cuttings from the garden to grow on over our 🇨🇦 winter. I keep on top of it by naming my days Fertilizer Friday and Succulent Sunday 😁 Doesn't always end up on those days but it's a goal to aim for and those two mornings are set aside for all things plants plus a general scan of everything mid-week. I love how you keep it realistic ☺️

    I love your videos. I was exact like you said. I went to big box store every week and always brought some home. Luckily, I stopped going to big boxes stores recently because i think about the winter time, I don’t have enough space for all plants.

    Great tips and reminders... found a mealy last week and it got me down but it's true... pests happen. I use a watering app (of course I am checking before I water and not just trusting the app and will adjust if need be) and it helps me focus on a few plants a day which I actually love. Each day I get to bring some plant happiness to my day without the overwhelm. May not be for everyone but helps me

    I feel all of this, I only have around 20 plants rights now but I am going to school full-time, working, and doing chores around the house so it can be a lot sometimes. Currently, pretty much my entire collection has thrips and it makes my hobby a lot harder to enjoy when I don’t get to enjoy beautiful new growth and there is only decline everywhere I look. I’ve come to the realization that my plants really don’t bring me joy anymore and they are no longer something that I’m very passionate about. You just have to kind of accept it, you can sell the ones that look good, give away the ones that are decent, and compost the ones that just can’t be saved. Lots of my plants are quite large, the biggest being around 4 feet tall and 3 feet across (monstera), and they are in pretty rough shape so that I don’t believe I could reasonably give them away, much less sell them, if anyone has any tips on how I could best get rid of them I would greatly appreciate it.

    It’s those dam thrips that are getting you low!! There wear you down mentally! You will get there in the end 🙏 xx

    Great reminders! In the beginning I bought every plant I found in nurseries and big box stores, but realized many didn't bring me joy, so I got rid of them. Now, I only purchase plants I love and propagate the ones I have in my collection currently. I found social media had me doing soooo much extra care with my plants that I think isn't always necessary. Like you stated, in nature, plants get rain and sun 😅 yet, here I am running a humidifier, misting, fertilizing, granules and neem oil for pest control. I realize some of this care is needed, but now I'm very basic with their care. And you know what...my plants are still thriving 🤷🏾‍♀️🥰

    Good reminders, thank you. It stands to reason that the more plants you have the more time you will have to allot to their care. Caring for 20 plants is way different than caring for 200. Plant enthusiasts with “all in” personalities will often find themselves with too many plants. I know because I am that person. 😵‍💫 After you re-home a significant number of your plants you find relief in having a reasonable number of plants to care for, or at least I did. 😎. Good luck to us all! 👌🪴🥰

      Thank you! Yes! I feel like I need to downsize again haha. It feels so much better not keeping plants you don’t want anymore and it’s less work and makes you feel not as stressed!

    Your tips are literally spot on! I relate so much with everything you said and I’m also pretty much always checking my plants even if I’m not touching them or doing anything for them but I’m at least looking at them and taking mental notes on what I need to do when I’m ready to do some plant care. Even if it’s just one plant at a time. I’ll do that too

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! Completely agree with you! I still have so much repotting to do but I only do it when I feel up to it and I like to break it up so it’s nice to have some plant repotting to do all the time. I really enjoy that part! One of my favorite things to do is look around my plant room for 30 minutes or so a day it’s so relaxing and that’s usually when I spot new growth which is really exciting or I spot pests 😂

    Great advise. I started out like you said buying every plant I didn't have & would see at the big box store. I have a hard time comparing too. I've figured out lately that there are some I have that don't really bring me joy & have come to realize I don't have to keep those plants. Thanks for the insight.

    Thank you for this video. I recently became a foster parents to my sons boyfriends plants so he could go to graduate school so he gave be about 50 on top of my 100 so I have been a little overwhelmed sometimes. Thank you for reminding to step back and thank you for the watering tip I was trying to water them all on one day it would take me the entire day. Thank you again it is good to know others get overwhelmed too

      @plantsbymelissa  ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re very welcome! It gets overwhelming sometimes and that’s okay! Watering for me isn’t my favorite because it takes me so long and I water so much. Splitting it up has helped so much and most plants are usually fine if they wait a day or 2 longer to get watered. Taking it in sections has helped make me enjoy it more rather than trying to rush to get it all watered 🤗

    This is the perfect video for me cause my m in plant burn out right now I put off watering till I’ve got half my plants needing watering. I know I’ll come out of this phase, probably when summer ends and I don’t have to extra watering to do. Thank you for this video. It made me feel better.

      You’re welcome! 🤗 I can understand! Sometimes watering takes so much out of you! It’s okay to feel that way sometimes. Taking it in sections has helped me a lot and so what you can when you feel up to it! 🙏🏼

    First, I am impressed that you can stop after eating just 3 cookies. That’s an achievement in and of itself. I can eat cookies like Popeye eats spinach especially at Christmas time. As to plant burnout the most important factor for me is to keep my collection at a manageable size. Right now I have 24 plants and I don’t want that number to grow. So, before I acquire another plant I (1) ponder the purchase for quite a while to make sure I truly need and want it, and (2) I give away a plant each time I acquire one. That way my collection remains near and dear so to speak . I share this philosophy with some friends and we do quite a bit of plant adopting within the group. “Plopting” we call it, lol. Anyway, this video provided a lot of food for thought, just like cookies. Thanks.

      Haha right! 🍪 😆 that’s a good way to manage your collection that way you always have the right about of plants you want. I need to do that myself lol

      @plantsbymelissa  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a lot of work sometimes! Pests can be a lot to manage especially if they take over. Just take it little by little and do the best you can and hopefully once they’re gone it will feel so much better! 😊

    Hey Melissa, something I have been doing is when I dont love the plant anymore, I sell it. It can get overwhelming having so many plants but it helps when you really love all of them. If you don't then pass along the plant to someone who really will love it.

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I agree! Definitely helps so much! I got rid of plants before I moved and it was so nice having them go to other people that would enjoy them! 🥹

  • @wanglabtydc1803
    @wanglabtydc1803 ปีที่แล้ว

    So so agreed on why waste so much time and money treating pesticide. Just shower away pests occasionally like in rainforest 😄
    Yes point 6 stop comparing apple to orange 🤣 Instead of learn from others and appreciate others.
    Thanks for reminders 🙏🏻
    One more point i would like to add to plant hobbyist is no matter during covid or after covid. Continue loves and enjoy planting. Cheers!

    Hi, Melissa! Great video. Was wondering if you noticed any significant difference after stopping the Liquidirt...I'm toying with the idea of switching over, as well - but am a little afraid my plants will revolt!😉💚🪴💚

      @plantsbymelissa  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thank you! ☺️ i haven’t totally switched over! I would say if anything I’m having more growth that I’ve noticed lately. Especially my alocasias, anthuriums and monsteras! I’m still figuring the fertilizer out but I’m watering so often that it is just a time saver for me :)
