    100% agree.i have around 200 +/_ 20. I use self watering or scheduled drip irrigation, that helps quite a bit. I agree, we should add plants after a break of 3-4 months, instead of every month. Get accustomed to taking care of the amount you have for few months, before adding more. Once you have an idea of how many plants you can manage at a time, switch to,donate one,get one approach.

      Definately agree with this, and such a great idea with drip irrigation for sure 😊

    I gave up my career after the first year of Covid and my collection has grown massively over the last 9 months. It was propagations that started to push me over the edge a bit. I was overwhelmed with them and found I couldn't give them away never mind sell them. So, I did two things: I started a little etsy shop and every order gets a bonus, well rooted but less desirable (in my area) cutting that they can keep or pass along. It makes my heart happy and just how thrilled my customers are to receive the simplest of bonus plants; and I also started trading in my neighbourhood. Over the summer it was houseplants for veggies or fruit and in the fall it was squash and pumpkins, and now, in the winter, it's Christmas cookies. Granted, it's no so much a trade for the cookies as me refusing to let anyone leave the doorstep without a plant haha.
    I really find the practice of caring for my plants is helping me to heal from the trauma of working in healthcare for that first year, and now a little shop has given me and the plants a purpose.
    Thanks for covering this.

      Wow that is a very inspiring story! Also so nice that you have turned it into a great positive too and the plants have a purpose.
      I wish you all the healing vibes in these difficult times and especially all your hard work in healthcare, True hero!!!

    I only have 50 ish plants and was fine but realized shortly after adding a 2nd Monstera deliciosa I was only able to deal with 1 big plant taking up space. Put it up on fb market place for a fraction of what I got it for and boy did it make the day of it's new owner! 😊 made my mistake feel like it was ment to be!💖

    I know ow this an older video. By no means am I recommending this method but, it might be worth hearing depending on what kind of plants you have. My Mother has had houseplants my entire life (I'm in my mid 30s) and I know she had some growing up back in the 50s & 60s. She taught school for 47 years and has anxiety and was always overwhelmed but her plants looked amazing. Her trick? She only waters her indoor plants when it rains. She has a Shefflera arboricola that she got back in 1992, it has never been fertilized because she's "afraid of chemicals" and she only waters when it rains. This thing is huge, it's like a whole a** tree and it twists wildly in all directions and it is probably 8-9 feet tall. I'm afraid of her giving it to me one day, don't get me wrong- I would love to have it but now I feel if I only water it when it rains because she was overwhelmed with it, I may kill it . :(

    I got around 150 plants in 5 months... For the past 2 months almost all my weekends & evenings went into converting plants to pon & setting up cabinets & grow lights and stuff... Definitely feeling the burnout plus a big dent on my bank account LOL... 120+ are now in pon, 30 plants to go! I am almost there! Finally!!!

      Yoohoo, almost there! It’s a sunny feeling to suddenly have very little work after putting in so much for so long, but you’ll get used to it 😉

    I have about 150 plants which is my limit. I had a few more but gave alot to friends, coworkers and neighbours. When I propegate it is for the purpose to make my plants fuller. Like by the photos.

    I do agree that everyone has different level of plant overwhelmed. For me last year, I attempted to plant veggies + houseplants + flowers. I would say it was overwhelming for me to get rid of pests. Just to let you know I appreciate the way you deliver your tutorials as you make it conversational. I agree about downsize. I end Up throwing away some plants that I fall out of love and some I gave away.

    I’m a big fan of selling or rehoming plants through platforms like Facebook Marketplace and other groups. Lots of people do this it seems in North America. We also have plant rescue in my city. It’s a great way to earn some of the money back and some people get wish list plants for cheaper price or without tax and even tell you getting that cutting made their day or week.

    Anyone who has been crushed will understand that ... Ahhh
    I only have it when I spray spider mites and thrips!
    I don't have 100 plants, something like 80. I'm satisfied, some of them are big, I can make gifts for my loved ones. I'm planning a few more because I know I can carry it 😁😅

    +/- 600 plants here. Generally, I’m good with that and it brings me joy. However, I’ve had some health problems over the summer/fall. That’s when it was stressful. But I have a wonderful plant sitter turned friend.

      @Houseplantygoodness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oh wow that is super impressive with around 600 plants, Also sorry to hear about the health problems, i hope you are recovering now. That is very good that you have a great plant sitter for sure. Did they become a friend after they started a plant sitter?

      @@Houseplantygoodness Mmmh, good question. She came by twice before I went on holiday and during my holiday, when I got sick, she always sent me pics or did a video call - she was at my house every 4 days. And when I came back, we kind of clicked in real life. :) - Yeah, getting better. Still running around getting bunch of tests done and med stuff, but better. Thanks!

    How do you deal with stress of leaving plants for like a week or so for vacation? How do plants do fine and survive when you are away? I have less than a week till I go out of town for Christmas and this a source of stress as I have lots of rare and finicky plants. 😅

    • @aniliname
      @aniliname 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve honestly converted all my finicky plants to either self watering in pon or I’ve added water spikes if they’re in soil and they’re doing better than ever. I’ve slowly adjusted the media and conditions for all my other plants over the months so they’re on a 10 day watering schedule and I know the finicky ones are fine and only need their reservoirs filled once a month or so. My main goal the last few months was instead of getting more plants after I more or less got all my wishlist plants I started “tweaking” the ones I have to help me readjust to normal life again. Pon has been my biggest help in achieving this.

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have to say i have done exactly what Aniliname too, Pon has been my saviour for this too, self watering, water spikes and Pon have been life savers and help reduce the stress considerably.

      @@Houseplantygoodness thanks! I found converting plants from soil to pon, Leca or pumice or semi hydro can be tricky. Mine had roots rotted or leaves yellowed when I tried it. How do you get plants to thrive in semi hydro like pon when converting from soil or moss? Perhaps you can do video on this if you haven’t already done so.

      @@aniliname thanks. That is my goal as well as I have reached my limit. How do you get your plants to thrive in semi hydro like pon or Leca? Leaves yellow and roots rot for me.

    • @aniliname
      @aniliname 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cricketjem119 I have had a lot of success with it in general and converted a lot of plants that really somehow looked "relieved" afterwards as opposed to having root issues. The only times I have had issues like that, though, was when I tried repotting sensitive plants too quickly after I brought them home or a few times when I tried to repot them recently. I know it’s not a good idea to repot in fall or winter, but I guess I got too confident and had some root problems afterwards. Otherwise I haven’t really had any issues in spring and summer. I heard the tip once for preventing transplant shock by keeping your plant in a vessel of water for a few days before moving them to pon or leca. I haven’t tried it yet but heard good things about it. Maybe that helps.
